    Hello friends,
    And welcome to another Lick of the Week. In today's acoustic guitar lesson, I'll be showing you how to play some of my favorite minor techniques. We'll learn how to perform the natural minor scale, a minor 1, 3, 4, 2 progression, and a melodic Spanish lick that's guaranteed to turn some heads. Let's get started!

    That Am9 chord you finished on actually sounds like the starting chord on Hotel California.

    Is it depends on finger picking or strumming you haven't specified but little bit confusing while watching? Pattern, style, melody and synergy are all excellent.

    If we are to be precise, the chord you present as a B diminished chord when you're harmonizing the a minor scale is actually a B half diminished chord or a Bm7b5 chord.

    Mr Swift you are a Gift! Thank you for this Musical Lift! A little poem to start off my comnent😆 anyways I've only been playing my guitarlele for about 6 weeks and there's not many guitarlele tutorials on UA-cam my man and teacher Terry Carter @ uke like the pros does guitarlele tutorials and teaches a course .which is all good bit I still need more! So I watch guitar tutorials and transpose them a fourth up to work with the ADGCEA tuning of my guitarlele ! Anyways this lesson works great for me Am Is a perfect key for my guitarlele !
    I am writing a few songs with this progression in mind! I love how thus moves and the tension and harmony combo! I'm new to the guitar world/ukulele etc... but I'm not new to music ! I've played keyboards for 40 years so I really dig this progression on many levels! I'll be using it when for my guitarlele and keyboard playing! You never out grow music or creativity! Great lesson! Great lick! I've subscribed and will get notifications ! Keep sharing your glowing genius! Music makes life better and more beautiful! Looking forward to your next lesson! Any lessons from.your channel you recommend? My strumming needs help! JoyRoy Holla at your Boy! Swiftly! 😅😆😉

    Isn't the G# outside the scale as well as the major 3rd? I hate that it sounds so good. It is hard enough learning the knowledge on the scales to make a lick sound good. But the complexity is increased exponentially when you go outside the scale.

    • @swiftlessons
      @swiftlessons  3 роки тому

      You’re asking the right questions. The thing to remember is that there are a bunch of scales and each can be used to build melodies and chord progressions. The major and natural minor scales are the standards, but there is so much more outside of that.

      Change the D minor to D MAJOR....
      Melodic minor....kind of like stair way to Heaven,,,
      It's just Stair way dosnt have the E chord..that's all.
      You can also alter back and forth the II chord...aside playing it as dim
      B minor will be in A melodic minor
      B7 will be using the Lydian b3
      You can play G# as AUGMENTED too.....G#, C, E.....C, E, G#.....E. G#. C
      You can also play the F as minor or dim
      G#..B. D, F,....B, D, F, G#.....F, G#, B, D
      or F, G#, C
      You'll get used to it...dont be afraid to play notes outside the Maj/min scales

      Im not hateful.....It;s not my fault you have low self esteem
      or havnt studied the other scales..
      Possible TONE DEAF....
      It is D Major in the House of the Raising Sun.
      In House of the Raising Sun,,,,the IV and V chord get's VAMP to
      MAJOR
      The Lydian Dominant is a common chord...in other words...the D maj
      or D7...
      You put Lydian b3 in the TONIC position so you can play the B
      as B7
      You put (N6) Harmonic minor b2 in the TONIC
      so you can play Bb Augmented or Bb7
      or you can modulate other ways
      Play D melodic minor ( D dorian with a leading tone)
      to help you shift to D minor as the TONIC
      The Harmonic MAJOR and Harmonic minor....II and Vii are both
      diminished..In other words....Play the new TONIC as MAJOR or
      MINOR

      That's not a good enough excuse...just because you lack BASIC music

      I dunn know what else to tell you...There's a D MAJOR in House of the raising Sun...
      b3. b6. b7 are the SECOND ARPEGGIO of the I. IV .V chords
      b3 = Melodic minor
      b6 = Harmonic MAJOR
      b3, b6 = Harmonic Minor
      b3, #4, = Lydian b3 = IV mode of Harmonic MAjor
      b3, b5, b6 = Harmonic minor b5 = III mode of Hungerian MAJOR
