- While the Flightline connections have been busy at the Keeneland November Sale assembling a powerhouse group of mares to send to their new stallion, the superstar himself has been settling in to his new home at Lane's End Farm. We stopped by to visit the undefeated son of Tapit, who arrived at the Versailles-based breeding operation less than 24 hours after he cemented his place in history in the GI Longines Breeders' Cup Classic.

In a perfect world he would have raced 4 more times. The Pegasus Cup, Saudi Cup, Dubai Cup & Finish his career undefeated in the Breeders Cup. Still the best horse I have ever seen!
I wish they had let him do this before retiring
Thank you for never holding him back he was meant to be great I know there's alot of shenanigans at tracks some good horses get injustice.
What a Dream Come True, to see his Offspring!
I know everyone here is worried about his retirement but im more worried about turn out and the fact THAT HE NEEDS TO BE A HORSE. Poor thing a few hours of turn out is bullshit. Let him be a horse for once damn.
There is no guarantee that Flightline will be a great sire. In fact the probability is, he will be a flop.
LMAO AP INDY WAS THE GRANDPA 🤣 FLIGHTLINE ✈️🛫 WILL BE THE BEST SIRE EVER 🤡 CANDY RIDE (ARG) 6-6 JUST LIKE FLIGHTLINE UNDEFEATED SIRE 👊 MADE POWERFUL SIRES
Just like Zenyatta. She was a monster on the track but now is a terrible broodmare. Shame Rachel Alexandra can't have anymore foals because she proved to be an excellent broodmare. Even her granddaughters/sons are kicking ass
Así el hipismo no tiene gracia un caballo con mucha historia por contar y que es un ídolo mundial que todo el mundo quiere ver correr cierran su campaña de esta manera tan injusta. Esto hace que se pierda mucha fanaticada, que decepción!
I think we got robbed as horse racing fans to this early retirement from this magnificent horse. This was the horse that was going to bring horse racing back to mainstream media and put the sport in a different level regardless of the results of his upcoming races. Shame that they robbed this horse of the legacy we all know he could’ve achieved.
Horse racing is still in the main stream media. You can watch horse racing on TV almost everyday
The insurance company robbed us. If he truly is worth the 180 million based off the breeding shares sold they’d be paying 15,000,000 per month to insure him
@@AuthenticMage that can't be right. They would be losing money like crazy.
@@CamaroKidd2022 Hey guys, I read about Flightline having some hoof health problems. So besides his stud fees, maybe the owners/trainer were putting the horse's health first! Finally!
@@aileen694 of course they put his health first to make a lot of money off stud fees. It was about making money off stud because they knew he was fragile which is why they didn't race him anymore. Google showed him retired before his last race was even run.
Ridiculous to call a horse one of the greats when it's only run 6 races.
Sadly FL will become the same story as Justify. 6-0 and forgotten in a couple of years if not sooner.
Anyone who forgets this horse doesn't know shit about horse racing
This retirement of one of the world's greatest racehorses is a tragedy for race fans worldwide and it robs us all of watching the greater heights this horse could have risen to. Breeding is no doubt rewarding, but this action of retirement so early in its racing career seems so sad to me, Race fans don't get to see this level of ability very often and the horse has hardly equalled Secretariat's career. I'm an Englishman and we have just seen Baaeed retire also, both he and Flighline were exactly what fans want to see take on all challengers. At least let us see more of what they can do before breeding!.
Well said Michael B
I agree with you entirely Michael. I posted a similar response on the West Point Thoroughbreds video of Flightline arriving at his new home. While I do not disparage the ownership group’s right to make this decision (IT IS A LOT OF MONEY, I understand), as a racing fan, I just feel cheated.... once again. I absolutely LOVE going to the racetrack on big racing days and watching these beautiful animals perform at their best. When that gets limited to six races, it all falls flat. Terry Finley said that he made a promise to Flightline in the winner’s circle that he will continue to try and bring horses like Flightline into the industry (I am paraphrasing). Great. I hope he and his partners do exactly that. However, if this pattern continues to repeat itself, eventually, people lose interest. Great racehorses are these mythic heroes. We need that. .
@@mattmurphy2943 Thanks, Matt! Totally agree!
Agreed !
Imagine being an alpha and having your life cancelled in it's prime.
@@mattmurphy2943 any horse that comes along like FL will be retired very early because of money like you said. In reality, FL raced for quite a while (18 months) but he was rested a lot in between races because he was fragile. Great horse for the moment but no comparison to Secretariat. Secretariat ran an average of a little over 1 time a month!! FL ran an average of 1 time every three months! Sadly FL won't even be talked about a couple years from now. Secretariat will be talked about until the end of mankind.
Disappointing that such an athlete will not race again. Money
Flightline being retired after 6 races is everything that is wrong with horse racing as a spectator sport.
Agreed. Horses are not raced to bred, instead of the way it should be - bred to be raced. The fans are the ones that make horse racing a sport. They are the ones that fund the sport, so why are they the ones ripped off?
As good as this horse is you cannot name him as one of the greatest after only racing six times! You cheap in other horses that have raced far much more with only one loss or have gone undefeated when you only Race Six times. Sorry you're a good horse you're not a great great horse you don't even belong in the same breath as Secretariat that's just insanity. His connections are out for the money and I understand that I get that but the rest of the racing world was truly cheated of seeing what this cult can do and just seeing if he actually really reached greatness status as far as I'm concerned he's a good horse that ran six times that's it he won one Breeders Cup couple graded one races many horses have done that many horses have done that
That is exactly what I have been saying!!
He wanted to run more he loved it.
Should still be racing
Joke 5 runs and has proven himself. I think not.
Frankel is a real horse and rightly retired to stud.
That's right , Frankel was the greatest!!!
FL had 6 runs, not 5, but I totally get what you are saying. FL came real close to setting some race record times but 6 races isn't enough to make a horse one of the greatest. Secretariat and MOW are the GOATs.
His speed figures are comparable to the best who ever ran. Should be penalized for only 6 career starts. Possibly. But there is no denying his immense talent. His U.S. Timeform speed figure of 154 for the Pacific Classic is the highest ever given. The Breeders Cup speed figure was 144.
@@capiche7396 they probably didn't have ways to get speed figures back in the days of Secretariat. 6 races in 18 months is a joke to be honest. He ran so fast because he hardly ever raced. FL raced an average of 1 time every three months. Secretariat raced 21 times in 16 months which is an average of a little over 1 time a month! Secretariat would have won every race by 30 lengths if he was rested like FL. You can't even compare the 2 horses. Secretariat was the GOAT and it's not even close.
@@capiche7396 BUT would he train on? what ground can he handle? what is optimum trip? Big world out there and he has travelled nowhere to prove himself. To many assumptions to pay his stud fee.
Like so many others rushed into the shed, "we hardly knew ya". Wish him all the best, hope he throws some top notch babies.
Blame the insurance companies. I am an owner is Authentic. It would have cost 3,000,000 per month for insurance to keep racing him as a 4 year old
Kinda strange the Farm had the hats made in less than 24hrs after he was retired??????????????????
The owners new they were retiring him before the BCC. They said they would decide the day after the race (sunday) but wikipedia had him listed as retired a couple hours after the race. The owners lied so they wouldn't have any repercussions at the race from the fans.
The hats are made as soon as stud deals are made, not when the horse retires. But, top horses have entourage hats, while running too.
Well, business first before greatness. Flightline could be more legendary but now it's what ifs.
Enjoy your money, you Richards, if you're smart enough to get my meaning.
It’s a shame they retired him I understand why but as a fan I want to see him run at least one more year
Why was he retired ??
@@manukadilum6814 Money
@@manukadilum6814 and Megan Profitt, I read that Flightline had recent hoof problems so maybe that was partly the reason for early retirement. If so, good!
What a beautiful horse.
Shame on you for retiring him so early
I hope they let flight line look around he really likes to walk and look around and he's such a sweetheart I hope they're very patient with him
200k for winning 6 races. While American Pharoah won 9 and made over 8 million and the only Grand Slam winner.
And AP’s book didn’t even fill his first year either
AP also in my opinion is sounder than FL
Well at a stud fee of 200k x conservative 135 mares a year. Thats 27 millions thats the reason why he was retired.
This is like Kobe retiring in his second season it’s difficult to accept when the horse was destined to be a legend.
This horse is in no way in the same class as Secretariet, not even close. People are so quick to label great so fast, and yea so he won 5 races big deal. Stop acting like he's the greatest horse that's ever run a race. Time will tell what kind of sire he will be but 200,000 dollars for an unproven stallion is just crazy or should I say those who would pay that price are crazy. After all alot of the greatest horses have been flops as a sire.
You are surely correct about the Secretariat comment.
I agree FL is a great horse! However, when you look at races from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's those horses were fast, powerful & built tough!!! Are u forgetting Citation?? Northern Dancer? I could go on & on & on!!! Just a REMINDER!
I don’t believe they test for performance enhancing concoctions back then. That’s why it so rare nowadays to see standouts in any sport.
No Kidding he's overrated. All the competition retires early too
I hear you there Karen. I doubt most people know this but FL had a longer racing career then Secretariat! Secretariat raced 21 times in 16 months. FL raced 6 times in 18 months. FL was great for a moment but he can't be compared to a lot of the greatest horses.
@@tylariasworld2410 what? There are standouts in all kinds of sports today. Every sport has elite players.
One Of The Greatest Race 🐎 Horses.🏆 Enjoy Being A Horse Again . and A Dad To Many More Great Horses To Come 🥰
Such a great horse to retire too early...
And they wonder why the fans are fading.
The best horse ever to run, he was winning all his races by fun, from 1200 to 2000 mts. He was never asked down the stretch. Never seen a horse like that, even when watching Secretariat winning all his races. Flightline would have won by 50 lengths if run 2400 mts, I do not have any question on that, because his sire is Tapit. I would have loved seeing him running at least 4 more races, including a Grade 1 on grass in England. He would have demolished any competition, and still would have won by fun.
The ownership knew they were retiring him before the BCC even happened. They didn't come out and say that because they didn't want to make the fans mad before the race and deal with the repercussions at the race. They said they would make the decision the day after the race (Sunday) but a few short hours after the race, Wikipedia already had him listed as retired. The ownership was lying out their ass.
Look at the hat on the Farn employee Flightline hats made well before he ran in BC Classic
@@TheBadGuy1974 what is a Farn employee or did you mean Barn employee? A lot of horse owners have hats made with their horses name on it. It doesn't mean anything.
@@CamaroKidd2022 Farm
They didn’t say it just in case he lost
@@davincimotorworksinc6710 even if he lost they weren't going to race him anymore
I don't understand all the hate for retiring him. I'm just as disappointed as everyone else that horses are now raced to breed not the other way around, but in his case he could have been retired after the Malibu and had mares lined up around the block. He showed enough in his first three races along with his pedigree to be a stallion after three. But he was brought back with all of his issues to run at four and cemented himself as at worst the #2 the most talented North American horse of this century. Just be glad we got to witness greatness.
Why is it that everyone says that horses are raced to breed nowdays? If you really think about it, it's always that they are bred to race. They have to be very good on the track before they can get big money for a stud fee. Its always bred to race.!!
He is going to miss racing and the competition and is still growing ,hope he soon gets to run in the fields ,and is happy🐎💚
pretty soon only a hand full of breeders will be left in the game and there won't be more 5 or 6 tracks left. the jockey club and their ultra rich blueblood buddies will control the whole show and keep all the money . their decades laid out plan is at the 1/16 pole. very sad.
That's not true at all. There is way more money in the sport then ever because of the internet. The same tracks are still open and there are lots of owners.
@@TimesUp777 there's more betting because of the internet is true..many tracks no longer exist. many owners of one horse maybe, because the cost of owning a horse alone has gone through the roof. 90% of racehorse owners lose money.
@@hillaryilinsky1009 okay. Its always been a rich mans game, but just 1 good horse can make them very rich because of those stud fees.
Hes a great horse., But not one of the greatest.6 wins with this weak field is too exaggerated.. How many grade 1s he won? They never get to credit a real great horse and hes name was Invasor.
Why has this horse never ran for the triple crown?
Minor injuries at 2
Stay Safe Fella! Really gonna miss you. I’m so done with racing.
Seth Hancock once said in an interview that he has seen some really good horse, a few great ones but as far as he is concerned none of them could have warmed Secretariat up.
He is a really good horse but to throw words around such as "a Secretariat type finish" as was called by the announcer is ridiculous. It was a small field and there was no true depth. He has only raced six times in his entire career. He hasn't proved himself to be worth $200,000 or the comparisons to Secretariat. This horse would have faded badly if he had raced against Man O War and/or Secretariat. I wish him well.
No true depth! Are you ignorant 😒
I hear what you are saying. A lot of people think FL is the GOAT! Totally insane to say the least.
@@CamaroKidd2022 I don’t think there is any horse that could have beat Secretariat at the Belmont with Man O War driving to catch him. What freak of nature wins at a mile and a half in 2:24 with 31 lengths. Sham would have easily won the TC if it hadn’t been for Secretariat. There were damn good horses that year too so the depth was there. Secretariat ran on different surfaces winning with ease and against older horses. Both Man O War and Secretariat running 21 races in two years. There’s little to compare Flightline to the greats.
@@cmeflywva I couldn't agree with you more. If Secretariat was rested like FL he would have won every race by 30 lengths! Secretariat raced an average of a little more then 1 time per month. FL raced an average of one time every 3 months. You are right, there is no comparison.
@@cmeflywva actually Secretariat ran 21 races in 16 months!! That is not even a year and a half!

You want some to blame, blame the insurance agencies. I’m an owner of Authentic while we all wanted him to race as a 4 year old it would have cost 3 million per month for insurance
obvious tendon fireing mark on left hind. Indicates tendon issue which probably led to retirement
It’s all about the money. Imagine if he had broken a leg doing one more race. Oooops lots of big breeding money down the drain.
Two group 1 races and straight into stud, can't be classed as an all time great needed another year or two of dominance to secure that status ,but at 40mil a year pimping him out the owners would be daft to not take the easy money.
That's 4 grade 1 wins. 6 races altogether and undefeated.
Come on! retired!!! What about the fans, i wanted to see him do his things one more time!!
Too valuable to he running on a racetrack
200k!! Do your thing flightline
What a joke!!!
Here’s a hodgepodge of my thoughts. Flightline gave us six wonderful races. I have no control over his life. I will not speculate how he would have done racing another season. I am glad he is safe . Maybe what’s best for him is to be retired. I do not compare the Greats. I just appreciate them. More than that I appreciate all of the horses. Sometimes we humans are never satisfied.
Obviously, Flightline doesn’t care what any of us want.
Greatest racehorse? Really? Before going to the greatest, how does he compare to a great racehorse, the best of the 21st century so far, American Pharaoh? American Pharaoh won the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup Classic. Flightline only the classic. Comparing him to the greatest athlete of all times, Secretariat, is laughable! Secretariat won the Triple Crown like no horse won it before or after him, with record times in all three races and these records still stand after 50 years!!!! He also run the world record over 1 1/2 miles in the Belmont Stakes, also still stands. Flightline won the classic with 8 lengths, Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes with 31 lengths!!!! Like other great horses of old, like Man O' War, no one, no one can be compared to the great and legendary Secretariat! Flightline will be forgotten in some years, Secretariat will always be remembered - Legends do not die!!!
I agree but will Never know how great Flightline really is I believe he's is really great just an opinion They way he won all his races he destroyed his competition just like the last race he toyed with Life is good what a joke I'm glad They were talking how good Life is good was I thought he was overrated just like this Friggin Forte not that good won't win Travers overrated big time Bit but Flightline was awesome My favorite all time was Man 0 war my opinion
Ghostzapper is best horse I ever saw. Flightline didn't change that. 6 1/2, 7f, 1m, 9f, 10f, against the best at those distance and he whipped them all. Ghost beat a better field in the 2004 classic, in a faster time.
He whipped them all , huh ! Why dose a jockey carry a whip? Is it like a hockey player who carries a stick? Or a baseball player who uses a bat? Does the whip control a horse from running sideways? Why did Joel Rosario get fined about a grand and suspended for a day? When he rode a horse in a race on BC day he used the whip 1 too many times. Does the whip make a horse run faster? Was there a limit on how many times you could whip a horse in a race 3 years ago and beyond? NO ! THERE WAS NO LIMIT ON HOW MANY TIMES YOU COULD WHIP A HORSE IN ANY RACE. Now do the math.
How many times did Prat use the whip on Flightline? NOT ONCE! How many times did Secretariat feel the whip strike his body when he ran? Do the math on how times Big Red was abused ! When Prat waved the whip on flightline nearing the wire in the BCC. Flightline had no idea what Prat was doing with that thing . Flightline ran on his own every single time and all the bullet works in the mornings all on his own. Did they abuse flightline running him 10 days after a race or 2weeks or 3 weeks then back to 10 days again? Was it cruel to run him so many times in a month after month ? Let alone whip the crap out of him. If add up all those beatings to an animal, perhaps that’s how you get your record time ? Them Gladiators days are over. And if don’t think that those Animals activists won’t shut you down ? THINK AGAIN AND AGAIN ! Have you been to the circus lately or a marine park? Nuff’ Said !
@@6cobrasnake9 dude. What race did you see where Secretariat was whipped? He wasnt whipped once in the TC races and set race records in all of them as you know. btw, Secretariat had the highest beyer of any horse ever at 139 in the Belmont and he was never whipped or even asked to run, he did it all on his own. It's a True travesty for the sport and for as Great a Champion Race Horse as I have ever saw in 52 years of watching them.

Such a shame how the business takes these horses away to stand at stud just when they establish themselves as special and mot of us have barely just heard of them. Think the commentator got a bit carried away there with the "Secretariat-like" line. Was an impressive run but American Pharoah did pretty much the same thing and ran essentially the exact same time but he was only a 3 year old and coming off the triple crown and did it to older horses. He'd be 5-7 lengths better again at 4 and 5 yo. Such a shame we never got to see it.
You greedy bastards. Greatest horse of all time and you run it six times and Send it to stud. What a bunch of greedy bastards
Breeding unsound horses is the reason why we have horses retiring early. Also 6 starts, undefeated, and people think he deserves to be ranked among the greatest?? HAHA Flightline doesn't even break Top 100

So from now on we will never see a great horse race more than 6 maybe 8 time's,thank God are greatest athletes don't do that, what a shame,
Flightline cant be considered one of greats if he only ran 6 races. In the ole days horses ran 20+ races.
Sad for the oldest sport n American history this horse doesn’t sit with the greats his offspring will definitely show
How many on here can say, that they bet Flightline in early August to win the BCC when his odds were 3-1? If you didn’t follow him from his race or even 2nd race then you didn’t know him. That’s why all talk crap in here. I never ever bet the early wager pools. He impressed me ever single time he won. WIN ! And so did the track announcers. It’s not about track records. When will the next horse go 6 for 6 and win by a combined total 71 lengths? A horse of a lifetime. 48 hrs later Flightline was sold to 40 shares for $184 million dollars . But no one says crap about that . Right ? Laying down 2 grand to get back 6 plus my 2 was crazy . But after he won the PCC, I knew he would be in the BCC and win it all. So many, many Handicappers said that he would not win going two turns or over a mile. That he would not be able to keep up the speed that he had and he was going to face horses far superior then what he has faced. 19 1/4 lengths in a race that he finished under a cantor gallop. Unfreaking believable!
I’m with u! I bet him at 2.5-1… was a few days late to get him at 3-1. After his Malibu win…. I knew this horse was the real deal. After that Malibu win, I could tell just by his stride (and Tapit obviously) that he’ll get two turns no problem. Bet him in May before the Met mile. Terribly bummed over the early retirement. Wanted to see him try turf
FL won by 19 1/2 but only beat 1 good horse in that race. Country Grammar was raced more prior to the Pacific. Fl rested all the time, that's why he won by so much!

I think Zenyatta is at that farm. Maybe her owners ought to think about breeding to Flightline.
Zenyatta is at Lane's End. But she is 19 and has been retired from breeding duty. Her 2023 foal, a filly by War Front, is reportedly her final foal. 20 is a reasonable retirement age for a broodmare, especially one who has had multiple pregnancy failures like Zenyatta.
Besides, her son by Flightline's sire, Tapit, did nothing on the track. Ziconic (12:0-2-6) and winner of $70,465, was the only foal of Zenyatta's to place in a race. None of her 4 foals who survived to training age have broken their maiden.
