I am a current resident in Southfield. My husband and I built a home in Canton Twp. in the 70s, our children went to school there. He passed in 1997, I decided to move. I am west of Telegraph Road, which remains semi rural. I have an acre of land, bordered by a creek . We have lots of animals, deer, etc. Many still have their wells. Mostly retired neighbors, it is quiet, surrounded by trees. Taxes are higher but city services are awesome. I absolutely love my neighborhood and neighbors. There are two former Indian reservations within the city.

I forgot to mention these semi rural parts of Southfield, where you can have a ton of land not many neighbors near you! Thanks for commenting

My parents moved my our family out of Detroit and into Southfield around 1990 just after I was born. So growing up in their school systems I can attest to the diversity. The majority during my time growing up was African American, with a good mix of Caucasian, Chaldean and plenty of Jewish practicing people. Really a good environment to grow up in being surrounded by other kids with different backgrounds.
You are also never too far from any major streets, but depending on where you live, you can still keep yourself just out of reach of being disturbed by that high traffic. As the video pointed out you're never to far from the highways, and the city is situated pretty centered between two major streets in the area, Telegraph Rd and Woodward Ave, again, opening up the areas you have easy access to even more.

I like the Suit shop in Oak Park, loved Northland mall growing up, bought suits from Van Dykes, and love the civic center in Southfield

Local Southfield resident. Moved here in 2008. Born and raised in Birmingham but moved from there to find a larger house and larger yard. Went from 980 sq ft house on .12 acres to 1850 sq ft house on .83 acres. House was 1/3 the price and I still have access to B'ham schools. The walk to uptown B'ham is only ten minutes longer than what my old walk time was. What I like most about Southfield though is the live and let live atmosphere I found here.

Southfield properties with Birmingham schools are a gold mine that not enough people take advantage of!

Thank You for this honest video. It is good to know diversity exist in Southfield schools. We came from Europe a couple months ago but according to our experience schools are not diverse at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

Glad to see some westside attention! Would be cool to see your take on North Rosedale Park and the Grandmont - Rosedale neighborhoods. The houses there are so nice! I think this side of Detroit is gonna see a boom in the next 5 to 10 years. Detroit real estate is why I moved here from Denver last fall - Denver real estate market is $$$$$$! Always enjoy your videos! - Devin

Im excited about the northland project but they have an abandoned hotel issue with the 14 story michigan inn, and the huge embassy/ramada... giant blight off the lodge. I worry the office buildings are next.

My mother currently lives in Southfield and loves it there. The town actually started to develop during the 70s, and I remember as a kid during the 70s, when there were a lot of wooded areas which are gone now because of development. Oak Park is also nice and quiet. The bad thing about the whole area is that roads are HORRIBLE. If you drive on 9 mile, 10 mile, 11 mile, Greenfield or Southfield roads, your nice car won't be nice for long.
