Hey thanks alot you guys this has helped ALOT! I just got a new wood stove and wanted the safest install possible, the double wall pipe looks EXACTLY what I'm looking for...Still nervous about 6" from the wall so gonna move it to 12" just for safety :) TY again guys!!
i am studying up about this stove fitting and if i should build a single brick wall behind stove on the wooden wall or build a full chimney out of my wooden lodge so this is very helpful info thanks
@7777Ralph
If you never use it, just stuff it with some fiberglass insulation. It should help keep the cool air flow down, but wont completely stop the air from coming through. Its just a temporary fix untill you can either get a professional to remove it, or start using it!
Do you have info/video about pipe going through the wall (not ceiling)?
Very great information! Thank you very much!
I am looking how to put pipe on the outside of the house two stories high. It is very thick single wall stainless. do you put it on piece by piece or put it together one piece then try to put it up? thank you
Thanks for great pro install info,
right off the bat, thumbs up...lol
good explanation
Thanks, very informative!
Bruce, this is a great video and it's exactly what I will be doing very soon. I will also be using double wall and your little precaution on using DW was most helpful! That one piece that you show (silver pipe) that fits on top of the support box is kinda short...is this a special piece or can you just use a 2' section for the outside double wall outside pipe? My brother says to just use the black DW pipe outside but I'm thinking it would rust...your comments? Thanks.
Thanks for the info!
Well the fiberglass insulation wont catch fire. I'm not sure if it puts off a smell once its heated up, but i'm sure theres a fool proof way to find out ;)

I've got a wood stove that comes up through the downstairs chimney. When the stove is not on, I can feel cold air coming through the fireplace. I assume they took the flew off when they installed the stove. Is it normal to have cold air come through the chimney or did they not seal or insulate/install the stove properly. Our stove usually isn't on, and the cold air coming though the chimney makes the room extra cold. I wish I never got a wood stove now.
You can start the stove the moment it is done. no sealants are used in installation. Bruce
Succinctly...EXCELLENT!
Bruce, forgot to mention that I have virtually no attic where the pipe goes through the ceiling...just the thickness of 2x6's...
Actually I do rarely use it. I don't want to have it removed and don't want to have to use it all the time. That's why I'm wondering if they were suppose to put some insulation in there that is fire safe to avoid that draft when the stove is not in use.
Not sure if that makes sense but hoping someone can help.
I'm sorry we didn't reply sooner. We rarely check comments here but always reply quickly to emails to our inbox or thru our web site. The instructions for wall protection would be in your wood stove owner's manual. We always recommend that chimneys go thru the roof instead of thru a side wall and can send you information if you send us an email. Please direct all inquiries to our email address thru our web site INFO at WoodHeatStoves dit COM
Dampers were only used on "non airtight" stoves where they did not have gaskets on the doors and would not hold a fire overnight. I'm sorry we didn't reply sooner. I'm having my wood stove put in by professional installers........do any of the connection points of the stove piping require any type of grout or furnace putty, at any point along the path from the stove to the pipe outside the house?
The shorter question would be.....how soon after installation can I burn my first fire?
Hi CajunsGirl,
Every stove or insert connected to a fireplace should have a stainless steel chimney liner pipe installed and the overall height should be 12' or more but follow the directions in the stove manual. We have most stove manuals available for download thru our web site WoodHeatStovesdotcom
We would be glad to answer this and any other questions in replies to emails to info at woodheatstovesdotcom
Bruce
Thank you
What about pipe going into old boiler chimney
It would seem that the joints in all these pipe components are not sealed in anyway, especially the slip connector. Isn't that rather dangerous?
no it is not.
Under your description you say "The pipe must extend 2 feet over nearest ridge or surface WITHIN 10 feet horizontally." Did you mean to say AT LEAST or at a MINIMUM distance of 10 feet from the nearest ridge or surface? Thank you!
I'm sorry we didn't reply sooner. We rarely check comments here but always reply quickly to emails to our inbox or thru our web site. We have diagrams showing the Tee installation thru a side wall listed under "Chimney Pipe" on our web site. Can a doble wall pipe be used on the outside?
Some chimney pipe is referred to as Class A double wall chimney pipe.
You do not want to use double wall stove pipe for the chimney though.
Every wood stove or wood burning furnace needs its own chimney installed per the manufacturer's instructions. You can never combine wood burning appliances on the same chimneys. In the future please send any questions to info at WoodHeatStoves . com for prompt replies.
Thanks, Bruce
