Kens story is the story of many young men, not knowing what to do, but find something that is meaningful and doing what is cool and fun for him, it just kinda left him open to the wolfs, his insecurity at know being able to know what he could be, is universal, and it just shows how the issues of men, can't be solved easy and is certainly not being solved now, as it is compounded by this conflicting notion of how to reconcile the relationships that are left with how a world that couldn't care about men in the most basic sense. No one teaches boys to become men, and then that is taken over by the boy learning from the most beneficial and good for himself thing, which will not be the best thing for others. It is time to understand that Ken is Me, is not the lesson, but the subject that you must train and understand before any kind of bridges can be made, to cement the proper foundations for better men.
Just don't treat thing the way they are, but the way they are able to move towards.
Men being able to understand and feel loved.

The people who think this movie is anti-men heard the word patriarchy and then ignored everything else. This movie is anti-patriarchy, yes, but it is pro-men. It takes so many steps to show how our society also hurts men and our ability to feel and grow and be confident. The world tells us we are not "Kenough" and this movie acknowledges that

Perfectly said! I was excited about this movie but I was also afraid it would be anti men in order for it to be feminist but I was shocked and happy that it wasn’t even though it did lean towards a female perspective it approached those topics in a way where it didn’t put men down at all it called out the fact that the patriarchy has unrealistic and unreasonable expectations of men as well as women and which is something a lot of modern feminists movies don’t talk about well if at all and when it did poke fun at guys it wasn’t mean spirited at all imo. This movie is the perfect balance between dealing with a lot of heavy themes and still being a very fun movie i loved it.

I enjoyed the movie, but I didn't think what the Ken's did made them the "bad guys" of the film. The men had 0 power at all in barbie land. They were barely even acknowledged. All Ken did was flip it around. Not saying its right for either side to have all the power, but it was reasonable to see why Ken was upset and did it lol.
But then the movie just ends with basically 98% of the power back to women, which was weird. Kinda felt like the lesson wasn't really learned. But at least they said sorry to Ken.

The last part, about not getting a medal or congratulations, is her expressing her frustration at how even if a woman somehow meets the expectations perfectly, people act like that's the bare minimum she should do to be respected. The movie is great. At it’s core, being about a mother & daughter relationship (Ruth creating Barbie & naming it after her daughter, and Stereotypical Barbie fixing the relationship between the mom & daughter). Ken’s journey of going what women went through in the real world (not being respected & only seen as lesser and side pieces, to getting lower jobs than Barbies and “working their way up the ladder” as the narrator says). The contrast between Barbieland and the real world, and how Ken feels in Barbieland vs how Stereotypical Barbie feels in the real world. Then the history of Barbie dolls and their unrealistic beauty standards harming women, all making her want to stay in the real world and be a little of a contributing factor to help the real world

I was really surprised when i realized you guys had not seen this film in theatres, but then became really excited at the thought of being able to see you experience it here instead.
I went to see this with my mom, friend, and younger sister and i actually found myself really interested in the conversation the movie provoked in us afterwords. My mom, for instance, is a very tradition woman with traditional values and she actually felt bad for Ken in the end, and was upset that Barbie never ended up accepting him as her signigicant other. She was uncomfortable with many of the topics brought to the surface and she felt that a lot of it was untrue. While the 3 of us, and especially my younger sister felt that it was extremely accurate and poignant, while also being hilarious.
I thought it really showed us how much our eyes have opened to the way we are tricked into believing we have autonomy and choices when we are still being told what our choices are in the first place.
As a woman growing up watching my mom manage a business and smiling and giggling while telling men what to do, so as to soften the blow of her being their boss, it really hit me how much she doesnt even realize this was something she had to do. She just thought it was normal.

Because things like glass ceilings and rape culture exists beyond the valley of childhood, within the real world. That bit made me cry. I think that is the power of the movie, that there are references to people from various walks of life struggling in the same way but for different reasons. I also love how when Barbie sees America for the first time she has a look on her face like love, like she knew who this person was even before she they spoke to each other, like a baby looking at her mother. Thanks for acknowledging that as men you wouldn’t fully understand some of the references that the women would get - I expect there are things Ken goes through that hit you in different ways than it hit me. I saw an interview with Margot Robbie and apparently the John Cena cameo was purely a coincidence; they were shooting different films at the same studio in London and bumped into each other, and Robbie asked him if he wanted to come have a cameo and he JUMPED at it

Of all the movies to become a cultural sensation, this was the last one I would have expected. I love how men by and large have embraced this film. I went to see Oppenheimer a week later, and there were still droves of dudes in pink. And I live in a red county.

The box scene really got me on this reaction! As a single woman who's almost 30 it felt like sush an important parallel for the messaging I've gotten throughout my life to get a corporate job for men, to marry a man and submit, to get in the box. Chills.

I find it crazy that they went through hundreds of different shades of pink and I think they finally settled on ten different shades and I'm pretty sure the Barbie brands literally owns a certain shade of pink lol how iconic is that. I wasn't a big Barbie girl growing up but I did have some so did friends, and I love the details they have Margot floating down, not really drinking or eating, no water running in the shower, and the pointed feet because Barbie only wears heels is so funny to me this was honestly so fun to watch.

To me Barbie and Ken were really only friends to begin with because they themselves don’t know what physical attraction is not having those inclinations or body parts. Their love always was platonic for those reasons. He was looking for her to be his exclusive best friend , but used the terms boyfriend and girlfriend to describe that since that is how Mattel labeled them. So when they didn’t end up as something more in the end it did not surprise me at all.

Surprised you guys hadn’t seen this yet but happy I got to see your reactions. I figured Barbie would let me down and was happy to see it be more than I thought. To be honest I should’ve known and expected better from Gerwig, Robbie, Gosling, and the rest of the great cast but I was genuinely shocked by the layers. I laughed, cried, and experienced all of the Barbie emotions.
Also, so impressed that you avoided so many spoilers because people still won’t stop discussing the movie. (At least for Oppenheimer we knew what happened historically, this one all we knew was the doll).

I, a guy, really wanted to see this movie, but all my female friends were on the fence. So, I went with my male cousin and we both loved it. None of us felt offended or anything like that.
To learn about Barbie's history, the show The Toys That Made Us has an episode about her.
