As someone in your age demographic, let me say that I really enjoy your videos. I obviously like what Kyle puts out, but I really appreciate your perspective , especially since I feel like I’m about at your level of understanding the tech. I haven’t taken the plunge to full EV yet, I drive a RAV4 Hybrid, but I think my next car will be fully electric. In the meantime, please keep filming for us “older” folks!
It is so nice to see another road trip with the best EV Presenter. You are a natural and it is a pleasure to see you again. You make the whole presentation so relaxing and just a great pleasure to watch your road trips. I hope you do more in the future since it is a relief to get away from the circus clowns calling themselves EV professionals. You are one of the few presenters I enjoy any more. I watched other ones who had to add political content and it turned me off immediately. Thank you again for your professionalism and keep up the great work you do.
ID 4 to I5 owner here as well, your charging experiences mimic what I am seeing with speeds and charging etiquette. You have a nice relaxed demeanor for a ride along…👍
I certainly enjoy your videos. It’s so relaxing and normal like we are all going somewhere together. I enjoyed the trip thanks. I leaned a lot. Because it’s slowly and gently presented that a great way to learn this stuff. So I hope you do more of these. Thank You
Road south with you, now riding back. Learning a lot about EVs. Very impressed with the your cars charging times. Keep making the road trips, your great at it!
Thanks for the return trip. I enjoy your road trips vicariously. I’m itching to go on one myself but work is so busy I can’t get away yet. Looking forward to trying my own EV adventure in my new MY. And with my pup too.
Hi Dave, another fantastic video. I watched to the end. How lush is Bailey. Please keep doing these Dave love them. Love to Kathy look forward to the next one.
Great video. Really opened my eyes to the Kona 5. I own a bolt and unless GM speeds up the charging, I doubt if I will buy another. Thanks and we'll done.
Dave I want to thank you for your funny trip from Florida back to your home in cT. I am a first time EV owner currently living in Columbia SC. I ordered my Ioniq 5 from Pensacola Fla. I am a single female and by watching you and your son Kyle videos I drove my SEL back to Columbia with no worries about running out of power. Now I had to take a different route than you because Pensacola is in the western part of Florida but I drove those 8 hours like a pro. I had one small problem coming around Atlanta Ga on I85 but I had a contingency plan, which was to call a tow truck and take her to the nearest charging station...but the car was smarter than me. I over shot my charging station by 30 some miles and told the car to go to next station well she turn me around to go back to the one I had passed and like me I said no Im not going back toward Atlanta and turn myself back around heading towards Columbia SC told it again to set my next charging station and she said and I quote " you will not reach your destination that's way she was turning me back to the one I passed. I travelled during the week day and I was able to hit the 350 kWh all the way home. ( tried to get the Limited but I think I would still be waiting). Thank you so much. I enjoy your videos . do you know if the SEL have auto sensing windshield wipers?
@@dconner9 You are a great presenter. By the way, I'm a fan of Hyundai too. I had a highly abused Hyundai that always worked like new over a decade. Now I'm driving a Genesis.
Dave, what another cracking good vid and your narration is brilliant! My wife and I were in Key West for anniversary in April - had a Sloppy Joe and got some writing inspiration in E. Hemingway's writing room not far from the Southern Most Point : ). And my son lives in Tampa too. We'll be taking the id.4 down there in a few months for the first time and we're planning to eat at the Salt Shack for the first time thanks to your inclusion on the vid. Kyle is rad, but OGs rule. Charge On!
That field sobriety test is the most Tampa thing ever. Never heard of the Salt Shack. Just told my wife we need to go. We used to love on the other side of the Gandy bridge. I see your daughter led you onto Bayshore drive. That street has the longest, continuous sidewalk in the world. Great trip.
In your recap of charging sessions, it would be great to also show the amount of miles driven. This gives an idea of time between stops, and the ability to easily calculate cost / mile for those of us considering the switch.
I think the reason the Georgia pricing is so much cheaper for you around 43:16 is that the pricing is time-based instead of kwh-based. So it's much cheaper for a fast-charging car like the Ioniq 5 but is probably more expensive than others for slow-charging cars like a Bolt. Interestingly if you get blocked out of a 350kW in Georgia, not only are you charging slower but it's costing you more!
Okay Kyle and Dave. I got the new name for Dave’s and other presenter’s sub channel. For people that aren’t that technical like us Nerds. Call it. “Out of Spec Daily Driver. “ It would be perfect to be able to send these well edited videos or short clips to new EV user’s. Most of them will never care about the charge rate or preconditioning. Keep up the Great work. Love it.
Dave I enjoyed the video and I think it is great you talk to people at the chargers. I loved the partridge family reference. I am old enough to to have watched the show when it was on . They came to ohio in. 1973 or 4 to go to kings island a amusement park in Cincinnati. It is celebrating 50 years this year. Brady bunch went there too. I am a cedarpoint amusement park fan in Sandusky oh on Lake Erie it is150 years old. Bailie did great on the trip.
Hey! New to your page. Love your vid! As a new Kia EV 6 GT Line owner in Philadelphia, PA, this really takes the anxiety out of road tripping to Florida.
It's already hard to pass by South of the Border as it is. With Bailey and the doggie park, it's a must stop. Loving how many times you opted to pass by chargers. Options.
Salt Shack looked like an awesome restaurant with some outta this world Gulf seafood. And a plus that they’re dog friendly so Bailey got to join the dinner party!
I own a Taycan, but was wondering how fast IONIQ 5 charges so I watched the video. But, since you made it quite entertaining, I ended up watching it in its entirety. Bravo! The content around EA stations do apply, and am glad to see that they were for the most part functional. I am now also open to the idea of having a dog as well.
Isn't it a Dad's job to embarrass their kids so nice to see you following protocol. :) Another great video so far Dave. Still watching but wanted to comment early. Nice to see a EA station not at a Walmart but just because you're an EV doesn't give you the right to block a charging station even if there isn't any other EV's there as in future there will be and it may not be a good scene possibly even Police called.
Hello! We were going to buy an ID.4, but ended up finding a way to get a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV faster and switched. Could you please do a road trip with one of those and show us what it looks like? My husband and I love this channel and are always looking here for information.
54:37 I haven’t been to South Carolina but based on some of the pictures, I get the sense that South of the Border is basically like Wall Drug in SD. You stop in based on all the road signs, only to be disappointed
There's a couple of issues with EA stations. I've been to EA stations that were arranged so poorly that some of the charging cables wouldn't reach my chargeport. The other issue is that with most EA sites I've been to, at least one charger (out of 4) was out of service. On a road trip on Friday, I stopped at the EA chargers in Paducah, KY and only ONE charger out of four was working. ONE!
Smart idea👏🏽👏🏽 At least he has the decency to use a good Radar detector for n his vehicle 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 What sense is it to drive any vehicle while naked and not use anything to protect yourself from 🚔 out there and more. It’s basically like driving blind like the average drivers on the road who drive naked🤷🏽♂️
Great road trip! The time lapse music was awesome, please let me know the artist/tracks you used 🎶🤘 In the future, I would calculate the EA pricing by the Pass+ ($4/month) membership at $0.31/kWh. If you charge at least 33 kWh at EA, the membership will pay for itself. It's really a no brainer to sign up for the EA membership whenever you're going on road trips. 43:00 The cost of electricity wasn't cheaper, it's just that EA was billing per-minute instead of per-kWh. For very fast charging cars, per-minute billing is comically cheap and really unfair to anyone else. Per-kWh pricing is the fairer way. 55:00 What you're saying about billboards for Pedro's reminds me of billboards for The Thing in Dragoon, AZ. There are billboards up and down I-10 and even some on I-25 in New Mexico.
Love your videos! Compulsive watching and enjoyable. (BTW - if this video had been shot in the UK we would see: endless roadworks, delays, diversions, traffic cones - and no high-speed chargers...anywhere!) ;-)
Love the video. Wanting to get the EV6. Confused somewhat on my calculations for your trip. Calculated at 30mpg and roughly 4.50 per gallon your total cost for the trip in gas would have been approximately $550.00 Granted you saved some money with free gas, but a regular paying customer for that trip didnt seem to have saved a whole lot. Always thought it would only cost you about 1/3 of what gas would've cost ya. Naive on my part perhaps? Or did i miscalculate, or both? Still, I cant wait to get my EV6. Thanks for the video, i had fun.
Love your videos. I am about the same age so like to live vicariously though your you tube videos. One suggestion- when you show the charging summary screen, use a dark background to make it readable easily.
I know all your charging stops except the last two. I've been up the East Coast twice this year in my 5 from our Tampa area home. The Tampa charger you used on Bruce B. Downs is often busy and has been plagued with non-charging EVs parked there. You missed the best part of the Gainesville, FL chargers: the Steak and Shake across the street!
August 6th 2022 Go green Real Time travel This is my correction my first comment states THX! For the information about your Trip & recharge ports… I also, made the comment that nobody was posting the CO$T of recharging &! you most certainly did… add that information THX! Enjoy Stay Safe!
Dave ....these are some of the states that charge by the minute like Georgia with Electrify America..........States that currently have lowest EA rates by minute.....Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia. Mississippi. Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Thank goodness that I don’t have to watch the other guy who I typically see doing these videos bumping his eyeglasses a thousand times per video. That may be an exaggeration as I can’t stand his videos and don’t watch them very long. Good job here, thanks !
Great road trip, we in Canada have Electrify Canada (division of EA) reliability not so much on some stations, example Salmon Arm BC, could not initiate charge on 2 of 3 - 150kw chargers, the 3rd only delivered 33kw, so I plugged in to the last remaining 350kw and it delivered 76kw on plug in, so moral of the story, not all Kona / Soul EV or e-Niro with maximum charge rate of 77kw are blocking the fast 350kw chargers un-intentional when the Station has 75% of the chargers are down or partially down. Another point is if you CCS charge leave the dual CVS / ChaDemo station free where possible for those Leafs or older Soul EVs
I think it’s BTCPower’s fault. I see similar issues with their chargers on Francis in Oklahoma. I think the liquid cooling on the cables is failing on some units which makes them slow way down.
I thought the free charging was only up til 30 mins per day so your charges later in the day shouldn't of been free as you stated. 1:05:03 the fact that he didn't plug into the 150kW station from the beginning shows that he ain't trying to change a damn thing by not plugging into a 350kW station with his Kona. I'm not sure if the 350kW station was the only one that was opened at that time but still move over if a 150kW is opened later tho.
The manufactures should partner with EA to have the software gently remind someone when they plug-in they could use a lower rated unit and still get their rated input.
Dave, loved hearing about your road trip to Florida in the Ioniq 5! I live here in Utah with my wife and we have an Ioniq 5 SEL. Over the Memorial Day weekend, we drove to Phoenix and back. We covered 1,488 in the 4 days using the Electrify America charging network. Since we have been home, we have noticed that after we have used our level 2 charger, that we are no longer getting up to the 300 miles on a charge. Have you seen a difference with your Ioniq 5 since you have gotten back home?
David, your car does not look like any "space ship" I have ever seen. I do like the looks of your car and the color. I think they should have increased the battery size another 5 to 10 kwh and that would allow more charges skips.
I believe that the drop in charge to about 1 or 2 kw (meaning the car isn't charging, really) its a temperature thing, either battery's too hoot, or car is keeping it from getting too hot and cooling it down to charge at optimal speeds? That's what it looks to me from watchign several charging curves (Kyle's, Tom's, Bjorns...not that I"m an expert). I was goign to get EV6 and had a nice matte grey one picked up, but then, a cyber grey IONIQ 5 appeard in a dealer withing driving distance (about 190 miles) from me, so Yeah. Kinda like interior on EV6, but the looks of the Hyundai, along with the larger interior room, better designed rear seat (it slides AND reclines), along with the more powerful V2L (3.6 kw instead of 1.9 on North American EV6s), and the fact they're harder to find... I'm getting the IONIQ 5!
1:17:45 I hope for everyone, that they add about 30% stalls with CCS and convert 20% to dual plug type. There is a 60+% market share for Tesla, so such a setup would benefit everyone. Oh, and if they make the dual plug type painted blue with extra width, the physically challenged would have priority there.
51:43 30 minutes from 9% to 91% is great!
Thank you for the ride! 🔌⚡🚘
Yeah the ioniq 5 is an absolute beast when it comes to charging speeds

Dave, it’s a delight to come along with you and Bailey on your trips to Marco. Tony in Naples.
Another interesting road trip Dave! And thanks for sharing the info on the charging sessions. Kind of miss them in Kyle's road trip videos.

Not really at all, nope!
@@dconner9 Okay, thanks for your response
It has now been a few days, and my Ioinq 5 is now charging back to where it use to be, over 300 miles.
Kyle has sibling?! He strikes me as an only child. I am surprised. This is great
Amazing trip! :)
I have faith all this chargers will remain free , this is a grooming process
David, your car does not look like any "space ship" I have ever seen. I do like the looks of your car and the color. I think they should have increased the battery size another 5 to 10 kwh and that would allow more charges skips.
Listen to your dad,Kyle.Clean your front window.hehe.Great video.
Love the Ioniq 5. Is this the AWD version?
Thanks. When you are doing a steady 80 mph on the freeway, what is the indicated m/kWh?
I would have to check but approx 2.1-2.4 depending on wind allegedly :)
@@dconner9 Thank you
Wich one rides better the Hyundai ioniq5 or, the Kia EV6?
Great video! I gotta have more cowbell!
Great video, the way the sat nav worked seemed to have the charging stations. Are these preloaded.
