@@fredfry5100 Rice, steak and fries are very commom in south america, here in Brazil is like a every day meal. But yes, are two types of high glycemic index carbohydrates to top it off! Seems very strange, but its delicious, (with beans too)!

The falafel almost surely failed because frozen Beans are cooked, while the recipe called for just soaked, but not cooked, ones.
One, this adds way too much moisture-I guess you could correct that by adding flour or breadcrums (not more beans, as they are the problem to begin with).
Two, the texture is worse, as you basically double cook the beans making them quite mushy. When I use canned chickpeas for regular falafel, I just grill them for a minute or two till they get crunchy and add grains to the mix to give some more interesting texture, I guess this could work here too?
But, as a disclaimer, I just know how to make regular falafels, so this is speculation on my experience

The original tombraiders were my first real big game trilogy I was obsessed with. There is a chance you live in an area where dried fava beans are called broad beans or butter beans, so looking for those might help. Otherwise, you’ll have to substitute in chick peas or other mild beans. A better cookbook would have explained that.

A Tomb Raider cookbook is not something I would have ever imagined but it works surprisingly well. It is a shame it is not narrated by Laura Croft, her jotting down recipes she really enjoyed from the many countries she went to would have been a wonderfully organic way to present the cookbook. The fact that only some recipes have pictures is a huge letdown. One of the big reasons I like cookbooks is the big, glossy pictures of amazing tasting food. I have to dock three stars from the review for that alone. However, the food you made (mostly) looks tasty and that Peruvian dish was the star of the show. I also really liked that they incorporated pics of Laura from across the series instead of just keeping them to the reboot.

    • @MisoHungrie
      @MisoHungrie  3 роки тому +13

That's actually a really good question! So when picking recipes, my main priorities are the ones that are iconic and unique to the games. . For the Tomb Raider one, I didn't really find any of the recipes that are unique to the game's lore so I tried to find some that had thematic ties (e.g., beans and toast being Lara Croft's fav, falafels to represent all of the egypt themed games, peruvian dish to represent all of the jungle stages). So yeah I just try to pick the dishes that I feel best represent the game's universe.

Love the video but I will complain that cumin is not in the original recipe. Maybe just a pinch but 2 teaspoons is overkill. Thank you for using the aji amarillo paste and the frozen peppers tho! Those are crucial to the flavor. Aji Amarillo has a milder floral hint to it because of the freshness that jalapenos can't match. I would recommend Zocalo Aji Amarillo paste for anyone making the sauce. It is super fresh (and it spoils fast to prove it) and it doesn't have the taste of citric acid that other brands have to use to preserve it.
Not surprised that you love the stir fry, ^.^. It's a fusion dish in Peru that was created using Peruvian ingredients by the Asian community in Peru to appeal to local tastes. It's so popular that every Peruvian restaurant will serve it. It's our most well known crowd pleasing dish.
I will confirm that at home I just use sirloin because of the price. But a good peruvian restaurant will use beef tenderloin, and to me that's a litmus test of how good that restaurant will be. Be on the lookout.

I always loved the idea of the Tomb Raider games. These games and the Uncharted games alike always seemed like they paid respects to what I assumed was the source; Indiana Jones, while also remaining unique to their own stories. I wish I had played more of these games as I've never touched Uncharted and I've only played a little bit of one of the newer Tomb Raider games. That being said, this is quite an immersive cookbook from what you've shown and I could totally see her scribble down recipes from her travels that she enjoyed. Before watching the video I was slightly concerned that this cookbook would really just feature random recipes from across the world but it seems they really put their heart into it! I do have to say though, much like you I need my pictures with every recipe or else I feel like I go in blind and don't really have that passion to cook it in the first place. These pictures need to be there and they need to capture my attention. They should have me DYING to try out and create each recipe in the cookbook and as a photographer let me tell you, it's not as hard as you'd think.
Great video as always! I am always excited to get a notification that one of your videos has just been uploaded! Also, by the way I'll look into those Egyptian fulofuls (however it's spelled) and let you know if I learn anything helpful!

Okay, so I think I may have figured out why your Ta'ameya was messed up. The beans weren't supposed to be cooked. This means they're going to be soggy and adding more only added to the problem. I don't think this is your fault because this is a foreign food and I assume it wasn't mentioned in the recipe. Speaking of things not mentioned in the recipe the sesame seeds are DEFINITELY supposed to be in the recipe as every recipe I've found has them so that's a major mistake on their end. Apparently this is a very big Egyptian street food that is a big deal over there so I'm surprised the cookbook messed it up. Also, fun fact about them is while they can be eaten alone like in your video they also seem to put several inside some sort of bread/tortilla and eat it almost like a square hot pocket with an end open where they use a white sauce on top of it.

I expected Lara's favourite breakfast to be something fancy, like... poached salmon eggs benedict or something, "beans on toast" is considered a fairly simple meal, then again, she travelled a lot, so a tin of beans and some toast was probably relatively convenient comfort food for camping. Also didn't expect them to put a whole-ass recipe for what would normally come in a can. I might have to try that Peruvian beef dish though, that sounds delicious.
You know what's kind of ironic? Lara's creator called her "Lara" because he didn't think Americans could pronounced "Laura", but I most often hear Americans pronounce her name as "Laura".

Dry breans, soaked in the fridge for 12 hours or so. Dry for 30 minutes after soaking. When you process the beans, they should have roughly a panko consistency. Then mix the flavors in, and process just a bit more until it's like a rough shaggy dough. It shouldn't be too wet. You should be able to easily form balls with the dough that crumble somewhat when pinched.

An American must have designed these - those beans are not like any authentic British recipes. It goes south the second ketchup is used in the base. 😆
Now, as a chef of 20+ years, I'd recommend replacing that ketchup, with chili sauce - not spicy, but that sweet tomato based one, such as made by Heinz. You'll find it where you find the ketchup. It still won't be authentic to British beans, but will be significantly better.
Anytime you DO see ketchup in a recipe, any knowledgable chef will replace it with chili sauce, or sometimes something else. Ketchup is something only home cooks use in recipes, and there's ALWAYS a better alternative for the job.

I'm Egyptian and the recipe for the ta'amiya wasn't even right and you should only put a little bit of sesame seeds on it and yeah the reason it fell apart in the oil is that it is too wet and if the cooked well in the oil it would be golden and crisby from the outside and not that moshy on the inside

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
. The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]
    - (AMPLIFIED version)
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus.
If you have any questions let me know
