One of few channels that being a Patreon pays off. For you guys on the fence, you get a direct email when your a patreon and every time I have needed help on my tune he has replied very quickly. Not many places you can get that for 15 a month. Love this channel!!!
Why would I pay 200 bucks a year for someone that doesn't even explain the whole process. I think he leaves shit out on purpose. I'd just as soon. Have someone like Gwantney remote my tune. How could I trust this dipshit.
Keep up the Gen 4 Vids! Super easy to understand and follow along
Thanks for these videos, I have a 2015 Camaro Z28 with Gen 4 ecm, 427, exactly what I needed. Appreciate your straight forward common sense of tuning!
Heads up, on a 2012 Yukon xl I had to use the manifold switch open in order for the VE table to make any difference in afr. Thanks for the videos!
Best tuning teacher on UA-cam. Very under rated
FYI. My 2011 silverado 6.2 had to change the manifold open to make changes. Manifold closed didn't do anything. Thanks for the vid.
I got a Pontiac g8 that started as a base model v6. Now has a 6.0 lq4 on a e38 ecm with a 4l80e. I just started tuning and all my info has come from goatrope garage. Thanks man. I got a long way to go but I will keep watching and learning. Thanks for all the great info
have you done a video for the 2 bar os in the gen 4 especially the E38?
Another great video, thanks bro! I'm hoping to watch several more to get a better understanding of everything, then looking forward to rewatching while I dive in and give this all a try for myself for the first time. Again, very helpful info, thanks for all your efforts!
I found something interesting today. In some GM truck versions, There is a setting under Engine Diagnostics > Airflow > High county Thresh and Low count Thresh need to be set to 0. Thought I would share.
I'm about to put an e67 in a Holden Commodore V6. I know for a fact, the GM HFV6 uses a manifold intake switch, and both VVE tables are different. Should make it fun to tune, with VCT too. Mine is an LY7 3.6L. Would love a follow up video.
Thanks Kyle
Just noticed the Jonathan Maberry book on your shelf, I listen to the joe ledger series on audible while I'm wrenching! Thanks for the vids man, you're a ton of help!
Excellent video brother ive had holler terminator and ms3 pro I'm keeping this truck more stock and trying to hp tune it your videos are excellent
Good info here.....Thanks!
I am following all your instructions. But my MAF is not failing. Corvette c6 ls2 e38 ECM.
Hey, Thanks for all these videos!! I have recently completed my MAF tuning with a lot of help from you! I did a DOD delete and cam swap after I had a Cyl #2 lifter fail. My 2013 Silverado has the Open and Closed tables with different values. Did you ever make a video showing how to edit these separately? I have watched maybe 1/3 of your videos, but I haven't seen anything on this topic yet. I have also done general searches with no luck yet....
Thank you again!!!
Thank You!!
Any chance you can do an E40 ECM series? These ECMs are just slightly different than Gen 3 and Gen 4...
If you want those tables to match copy before calculating coefficient. Then calculate. Then paste and calculate in the 2nd. It wont match if you paste after calculating, bc the recalculation will blend it with the 75kpa and higher(using just your example)
Correct, calculate then copy and paste!
If you have the compare open with the differance highlighted and you make the reading zero it will make the change for you.
Take a look at a 09 CTS V if you get a chance. I believe it has all the GENIV options with some GENV. So many options it is overwhelming.
Love your vids - thanks for posting! Question/Clarification, Shouldn't the Engine Diagnostics >> Airflow>>MAF Freq Fail Low be set high - to say 14500 hz?
To force into speed density and cancel out maf right, and should turn to first error po101-po103 I would take the few extra clicks to ve a 100% sure
Maybe this is something obvious but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere so I'll share what I was just fighting with. Running 2bar OS E38 and recently switched to SD after having issues with my MAF. Car idled great on MAF only but with it failed I couldn't get a good idle. It just didn't want to let in enough air. Played with all the usual idle tables until I happen to leave the cursor over percent max fail. It said if the maf map or tps fails it limits idle throttle to that amount. Maxed it out and now I can drive in public without getting embarrassed by my car stalling 😆
Thx for the video and all your help
If the manifold switch closed is different from manifold switch open? Then just still log and copy to both tables ??
Mine are different e38
What engine?
Ls3
Most of it is the same
Thank you
With each video I'm getting closer and closer to having everything dialed in correctly.
Come quite away from just adding some timing and removing torque management, lol.
Keep the videos coming brotha! Could you do a specific video on EOIT and injection boundary modifications if possible? Thanks!
Sure, you getting some of that gas smell from your cam?
@@GoatRopeGarage I'm a tuner and would like a better understanding of theory and adjustment. From what ive found on UA-cam theres no simplified explanation of EOIT tuning. Granted most if the cam cars I tune have alot of overlap so the fuel smell just comes with the territory. I appreciate it man! -Shawn.
Great information but I just cannot seem to get my EQ to work on scanner.
me neither! did you ever figure this out?
Awesome, hell I get confused doing transients.
Great video, easy to follow. No bullshit, love it!
Keep up with the good videos. Very helpful. 🤙
Thanks for watching!
Goat Rope Garage Your videos are truly helpful I’m just getting started into tuning so this helps a lot. 👌

It’s amazing how just a tiny kernel of incorrect information can bloom into a major disaster for the right person. Ive been struggling to tune my VVE and went back to basics to try and find out why my corrections are just never changing. I usually give up on tuning the VVE and run Gen4 vehicles in MAF only tune. It’s been manifold switch OPEN, all this time I’ve been doing it wrong and only pasting in manifold closed. Finally read on forums that best to change both open/closed tables.
It would be nice to see some of the lwe 4 cylinder vve and vct specific stuff, these seem to be some of the more sophisticated of the gen4 platform
Howell Summit
This video was great, however the ONLY thing my e40 06 gto pcm didnt offer on my tune file qas the virtual VE. All i have is the main VE.
Well I must say another successful video brother. I'd like to add you to FB if I have any questions.
Do you plan on doing Gen V videos?
You have awesome videos, and you are doing a fantastic job!
Keep up this great work 👊😎
I'll for sure do some specific Gen V videos soon! Thanks again for the support!
can you do how to's on ecmlink? for dsm cars. im trying to learn how to learn on that platform, love your videos. real informative,
The HpTuners documentation says that if your car is not equipped with a manifold switch then the default table used will be manifold switch open.
Be safe, copy and paste!
Hallo, great video and explanation.
i have GM genIV E67 ECM on LS3
i switched to SD because i lost the MAF sensor.
i have watched many of your video especially gen4 timing tuning.
but i still could not find how to tune timing table with MAP parameter.
kindly please show me how to tune timing without MAF sensor ( because i don't have one )
Thank you in advance especially for you and for everybody.
I set up the EQ Err graph but it does not populate the graph while logging, but I can see the cells hit when viewing the log. The speed density graph is the same way, it was already on the scanner when I started using it.
Same 🤷♂️
I'm just getting into the tuning seen.. is the ATS-V similar to the gen4?
How do I keep the tune in SD as the one I have is getting really bad turbulence from the 5” maff tube in a 2013 zl1 I built for a customer and can’t get it to clean up at cruise
SD is running cleaner every time I log and tune but he really wants the maff back if we can with out going back to the 4” intake tube
Build is gt14 lingenfelter cam , heads ported supercharger NK 102 tb and an automatic to boot lol
It been a real chore he had it at a very well known builder and tuning shop with over 30 hrs on the dyno and they couldn’t get it clean
So I’m looking to either put the other maff tube back in or just run SD all the time
Of course it’s a dual purpose car
Daily driver and weekend 1/4 mile track car running 10.2
Looking to make it faster
Great job on how you explain every thing simple and easy 👍🏼
How far are you from the TB with the MAF? With all that going on I can see why the MAF might have an issue.
Goat Rope Garage the maff is located in the down turn heading down to the filter in front of the drivers tire
It’s an rpm 5” intake kit Davenport motor sports installed and couldn’t get it to run good at idle or cruise
They installed an identical one on another buddy’s same build but a little less boost ( pulls combo) and it runs perfectly clean
After 30 hrs they gave it back to my customer and put their hands inthe air
I tried all day on the maff tuning and still does the same thing so now I’m tuning the VE witch looks like it was never tuned and tons of peaks and valleys
It’s a mess
I spent 3 hours tonight driving it around ignoring the o2 sensors and it seemed to get worse so I’m planning on starting with a stock Ve and redoing it
Goat Rope Garage sorry just past the down turn it is in a straight part of the tube
bull ony with this one while at cruise it surges a bit and randomly bucks like a half misfire but scan data doesn’t show any
Running it in SD mode it’s smooth as silk when trims are correct at cruise
Goat Rope Garage it also has ID 1050x injectors but I’m sure the data is in correct
Ever time I add a graph the way you say it does populate data. all the other stock graphs do, but nothing in the new chart
I’m not 100% sure but I think my camaro runs on the manifold switch open table
Great explanation. I watched your gen4 MAF tuning and got it dialed in. Would next step be this? And then turn settings back to stock to use both MAF and MAP and good to go?
Love your vids. They’ve helped so much. I used your Gen 4 MAF video as well as this one to help tune my vette. I have a question. After tuning the MAF (I got the MAF to within 1%) and the VE (this was tricky, did about 5 logs), when I re enable dynamic airflow to run both together. The AFR under medium to light throttle bounces around a lot! From about 14.5 to 16.2 or so. Just back and forth up and down really quick. Never seems to settle in until I get on the throttle pretty good or go WOT. What do you think I could be doing wrong when I re enable dynamic airflow?

Good Day 2010 GMC 4.8 auto the open and closed tables are different.
I have a 2006 GTO Gen4 and under edit I do not have the "virtual Volumetric Efficency" or "Virtual Torque".
Got a odd one here that is a 2009 gen4 e38 ecu but there is no vve table its the regular sd open closed manifold type
Great videos. Confused about copy and paste to VVE tables. If you copy and paste percent half to one table and calculate coefficient, then copy and paste that table to other table and calculate coefficient again, wont tables be different? I copied and pasted percent half to each table individually before calculating coefficient. Did find that as a newbie to HP and tuning, initially only modified closed table and that did not affect logging, so my conclusion is that my car (08 G8) works from open valve table or possibly both under different circumstances. Again, great videos and information. Thank you!!!
Make all your edits to the one then calculate it, when you copy it over to second table you will notice that nothing changes when you calculate it because all the values are sane for the formula that calculates the coefficicents.

Leprechaun Laboratory I have a Chevrolet Caprice Turbocharged But I'm having a problem maf I would like to know If I could do without it And count on map
I think I am doing something wrong lol. My eq err keeps reading -100 everywhere.
Just subbed. Currently on a maf only tune ls3 Camaro blown and cammed e85. Trying to get below 2500 rpm dialed in for surging. Is this the right way to do it with e85 also? Thanks
Did everything correct. Not getting any data on eq error table. 07 suburban

Should you leave dynamic air flow on when doing VE tuning?
So dynamic is always on, it’s the final airflow calculation, it references MAF and VE, so just fail the MAF and you’re good
Thanks for the help. @@GoatRopeGarage
Newbie question here: Why bother tuning the VE map, or "Virtual VE" map at lower part throttle RPM's like cruise? Isn't the MAF in the drivers seat there and the VE map in those areas really doesnt matter? Thx for the insight.
The VE tables are always effecting fuel, you can disable the MAF and run VE only, but you can't disable VE so it needs to be dialed in, specifically for transient fuel where the MAF sucks at metering air.
My graphs dont show any data from log files.
Running a 09 esclade 6.2l stock except for speed engineering CA and speed engineering 1 7/8 long tubes with crossover.
What am i missing to get data? Followed all the steps, do i need to wire in my aem o2 sensor to the hp tuner?
Good vids. Thanks for doing them. I'm new with this tuning and I'm having trouble vve tuning. Maf tuning is perfect but when I disable maf for vve the car wont stay idling just cranks and dies. It's a ly6 6.0 engine in a 69 firebird built to a 408 and big cam
Going to need to bump the idle RPM target and then play with the idle airflow to get it dialed in with a big cam. Thanks for watching!
@@GoatRopeGarage thanks for the quick reply. I just seen it. The target is set to 900 rpm and the cam lift is 625 intake and exhaust and its 230 something duration. Do I need to go higher with target
@@tonymatlock575 no, that should be good, bump your idle timing up to around 25 in the range you're trying to idle in and then tweak your idle airflow table until it settles down. As much as a can that big can.
@@GoatRopeGarage timing is at 26. Air flow I have messed with maybe not enough though cause it runs great in maf only mode. It starts revs to 1,200 rpm and then when it goes to drop to idle at 900 it just dies but I can keep it running with the pedal and after it warms up it will stay running and restart fine til it sets and cools down then it's back to start and die
@@tonymatlock575 There are engine coolant temp, ECT tables, for idle, if it idle when warm but dies on cold start they need adjusted. Don't forget that in some situations you're actually flowing less air at idle, this why you have less vacuum.

Hey GRT i am very worried i may have screwed myself i have a 07 2500 hd with an e38 i have deleted all of my evap system for future turbo plans does the e38 have to communicate with the evap to be able to get into closed loop or if i mark the dtcs off will it ever know its gone ?
So I’ve got my table built, but when I view it nothing populates. It’s all blank. I’ve followed your steps back over a few times. What can cause this?

For some reason I can’t get data to show of me logging
ive found it easier to switch to a sd os, dial in the ve, then kick the maf back on and dial that in too. itll still use the maf on a an os upgraded to sd. when you put filtered maf triggers and set maf fail numbers back to stock. have you seen any issues with that or tried it ?
I'm running into an issue with an e67 faulting p2637 whenever I have the MAF fail. Has anyone else come across this? Solution?
well mine looks a lot different it is for a 2011 CTSV 6 speed manual.

I have a question about the long term fuel trims, does the computer store those even though you have effectively erased it an rewritten the tune file and also when we are doing the data logging if we have removed it's ability to trim the fuel will it use the last "stored" fuel trim as the fuel base, in turn giving you information that is out by that percentage? I don't know if I'm making sense Ben
When you're working a config as opposed to a complete rewrite my guess is they can carry over in that situation. But they only apply when you are in closed loop so they shouldn't cause an issue. When in doubt go ahead and clear them before you start that log.

Thanks for making such great videos. How would you go about SD tuning on a e67 with an engine that has VVT? Park both cams at 0 degrees, adjust the 0-0 table and let the computer adjust for each angle?
Also when would you change the ExhaustCam.IntakeCam table in the VVT tab for VVE coefficients? Thanks!
Just focus on the base table and ignore the cam angle, it'll do fine!
@@GoatRopeGarage thanks for the quick reply, do you ever update the ExhaustCam.IntakeCam table for VVE?

I know this is old... Why/how would a o2 sensor pull timing in open loop? I have a small header issue working through.
