It's amazing what you can find just cutting some bushes back. I never knew Ford made a Escort 1.6 4x4. The UK never got that model. It will drive again.
When I was growing up, I spotted a Ford Escort just like this and I wanted to have one as a grown-up. It was 2003 and you could still see 'em being driven on the road. It kind of hurts to see this one so badly mistreated and abandoned. Unfortunately, this looks to be all beyond repair
The other day I revved a 1992 Geo Tracker 4x4 that was left sitting under a car port for a good 10 years. Turned out it originally ran out of gas so it wouldn’t start. Did the usual first start prepping and had it up and running like it never sat. All original 1 owner with 80k original miles and the most awesome part, my grandfather was the car lot salesman that sold it to him brand new. He said I stand to inherit it when he passes away it gets to where he can’t drive it anymore
Nice! In Brazil there are many Escorts with a Zetec Rocam engine still in circulation, but this is the first time I have heard of a 4x4. Here, there were other Escort models from the 80's to the 2000's and this one is better known as "Escort Sapão", something like Big Frog. It's an excellent car, but very expensive to maintain around here.
Such an awesome video and so cool you somehow got it running! My mum had a late 90s Ford Escort Finesse 16v in that deep red/brown colour when I was young, by far my favourite car she's ever had! Such a sleek looking car, love the look of its front!
You talk about the American late 90s right? I have two of the best Escorts, both 1996 both with a 1.9 transversal engine, 5sp Automatic transmission and power seat belts. Best cars ever :)
It is rare this model of Escort, There was only in these years the Escort RS2000 version 4x4 (i have one in (4x2) and the Escort Cosworth, but never other. So curious, I think the owner put it the differencial and transfer's box from a RS2000 4x4, it was very easy to do it.
Great work getting it to start after a longtime laid up. rare find in 4X4 . At 8.40 secs on video just noticed tears in cambelt which im sure your going to change. Old zetec were not a bad engine just at start they had valve guide issues and had to recall millions of them for brand new Cylinder heads
They're sadly very rare due to the fact the fuckers rust like absolute menaces. No idea what Ford did with the Escort, maybe they used shitty glue or sealer for the welded seams but the things just start mounting up rust at the mere sight of a salty road.
@@mikaelimanov6810 between 1994 and 1996 i drove one of four FORD Fiesta Courier as a company-car (1.4i 44KW/60HP) which my boss bought in 1994. these cars were brandnew, but after half a year it begans to rust on every weld, rain runs into the roof and out of the floor =o. in the trunk you could see thru the weld down to the street. after 2 years (1996) and a lot of time at the FORD-Garage in town my boss got the information, that FORD Germany takes all 4 courier back and he got his money back.
I also own one. Its like its on railway tracks when you corner it. I ought it to convert a Cougar to 4X4 but shelved the idea after driving it from wales to Ireland.
Every time I watch your videos I feel so sad that this beauties abadoned this is a classic man it can be a LPG conversation to make emissions better and be driven for decades. Escort is a rally legend and in my opinion iı doesn't deserve this.
@@PaoloRossi723 in european countries the government are caring about air pollution so much and this is an old car thats why I said that of course if the regulations ok, gasoline is better than LPG
@@Murat.012 I don't know any EU country with better regulation for old cars if they are equipped with LPG. Nevertheless this Escort is a petrol model (gasoline) with catalytic converter, you will not have any problem circulating with such a car. You should show the tire specs of the vehicle to prove the year it was abandoned. Just a suggestion because there's a few people doubtingon your previous video. Btw i'm a fan of yours keep doing it :)
We got this gen of Escort here in Argentina too, although not 4x4. Most came with the 1.8 Zetec Rocam. Unlike the european variants ours don't rust at all, but the first gen Escorts did brutally.
Nor I ! Actually, Ford UK would have saved a lot of petrol by making the Escorts just as we made them in America, 1.9 L transversal fuel injection equipped with 5sp automatic transmission. That engine runs and runs I've seen many in yards having reached well over half million kms (350,000 miles) and it gets between 11 and 18 km per litre, depending on road, of course (28 to 40 miles per gallon)
It must have a inertia fuel pump cut-off switch for safety on the right side of the boot/trunk or passenger footwell kick panel/a-pillar This will likely be activated in the crash that also activated the airbag. You have to push it in to activate the fuel pump.
Hi, I remember this thing from Ford Sierra or Ford Scorpio. But mostly if petrol car has been standing over 5 years then fuel pump is mostly stuck. But its possible to make it work again if you reach to fuel pump.
I was trying to find 4x4 escort in Belarus, but there is no one for sale. I didn't even knew that escort had this modification till i see your video(= Thanks alot!
Good job getting it running! Sounds like some bad scraping in the engine. The leak is probably from the heater core. Those always seem to corrode badly.
