Now I really, really, REALLY miss my little 323F. Owned one of these from 2009 to 2014 - the only, and I'm serious, the only piece of mechanical maintenance it needed in that time (besides oil changes) was a set of rear brake pads. It had an oil leak and a few other things, but that car just kept giving, and giving, and giving. It developed a bizarre overheating problem though, most likely a head gasket. But this was a fun little car, I still think about it almost 7 years later. Thanks for the vid :)
i repaired my head gasket and piston rings 6 month ago.. i havent ever had a overheating problem but water was moving into combustion chamber so the engine started with 2 or 3 zyl almost every morning.. luckily nothing broke or bent
Hi, I currently own one of these (still running great with 370,000kms)! I also had a bizzare overheating problem - for me it turned out that there was air/ a bubble in the cooling system. Once this was sorted the car was great!
I just bought one a year ago with it sitting on 44k miles (now 45k). I also just fixed an over heating issue, mine was just the radiator fan having a dead point so it wouldnt spin. I had oil leak and had to replace the head gasket but apart from even having a not fully working coil and being very grumpy while not having its auto choke on the girl just keeps going. Couldnt wish for a better car.

I’ve always loved the 323F. Especially the styling. I know it looks a lot like a Nissan 240SX but it shows a different era of Mazda. I feel like after the last MazdaSpeed 3 when out of production that was really the end of the good era of Mazdas.
Love these! The poor man's popup headlight machine! :) Simple, reliable Japanese engineering, these could run forever with some care. Sadly there'll never be simple petrol cars like this again...
Interesting video as I had 1990 323 BG too, but mine was sedan with 1,6 carb engine, GLX trim level :) That hydraulic lifter noise was familiar, mine did that sometimes too. Would be great to see this 323F fixed up to road legal condition :)
My first car and I loved that thing! Pretty fast and full options. Too funny to let pedestrians cross the road and wink at them with the pop-up lights! Everything on it worked and did not fail me in three years of owning it. Couldn't take it with me though when I moved continents.
A MAZDA will never disappoint you! I had one and the same for 410.000 km and never once didn't start ( even with 30 degrees below zero of 45 degrees above zero) and never broke down! I always got with it to the place I wanted to go without it ever breaking down! I only had to give it the regular maintenance and with 310.000 km I had to exchange the clutch everything else was still all original! The last 2 - 3 years it got some rust at the rear wheelarch, but that wa all! But I got a company car (a new MAZDA 626) and sold it to a MAZDA lover who would resort it completely, wish I had kept it foor my self!
I have to agree. Mazda reliability is excellent - and they make a a long lived range of cars. Rust isn't an issue here in Australia. It's common to see old Mazdas here - 20, 30 years old - just as good as Toyota reliability and durability, in my opinion. I love seeing old cars being restarted after sitting for such a long time.

I used to flog these Mazda's all the time because they handled so good
I had one off these for 5 years betwee 1998 and 2003. And it never saw a spanner. Very reliable.
You're amazing bro. Greetings from 🇪🇦
I currently own a 1991 323! Knew this would start right up
Nice work for this 80's car. It seems smooth to drive
80s car? Are you drunk mate
@@Juoppolalli ye.
That Audi 80 in the back seems like it could be easily restored, are you planning on starting it any time?
I Hope too
Yes I saw it too! I own one and I’m attached to that car!!🥰 Hopefully it will be restored...
Yeah we want to see how that Audi starts!!
The 80 is the tank of Audi
@@годгев my dad has one here in greece and it has never let him down for 25 years!

11:37 now i see where this sound effect came from in My Summer Car (it sounds exactly with 100% accuracy when you try to start the satsuma)
Haha true 😂
Still better than that fake rolls Royce restoration video and he does a great job keep up the good content👌😂😂
Haha, I've seen these videos! :D
Thanks!
A really great, affordable and super reliable car from Mazda back then.
Anyone would expect rust or anything, but gosh, it looks really good. Perfect restoration base.
I have a 2001 323 glx and drives great, I'm second owner (1st one was an old lady) and I love it, very noble cars
A 2001-model is also a new car ...
@@andersnielsen6044 it depends, the US model is different than mine

this is the most 90s looking car nice I like those flip headlights and the red transparent bar on the back :-)
You should definitely restore it,it's dirty, but overall in quite nice shape, the paint needs a redoing
Moreover, there's no visible rust, a trademark for Mazda, especially older ones.
@@Kwaq84 i didn't write about rust simply because i wrote this comment as i was at the 4-5th minute of the video, then i also noticed it doesn't have rust which is crazy
@@Kwaq84 Trust me they rot inside out
@@kisbalintkirill4443 Most of the times, but not always. I've owned '99 626GW, and except 3 locations: both rear fenders and one place in engine compartment, there was no rust. It was in honestly good condition and still is - I see it around from time to time, as its new owner is living in the same town. He is using it as typical work mule, but the thing is still going strong ;) No new rust after 5 years. Rear fenders were typical, but that one spot, rusted through, had to be made by someone during engine maintenance - probably wrench had slipped and damaged paint there, as that place was quite unusual. When I bought it, rust was already there, as well when I sold it, however haven't grown noticeably since.
@@Kwaq84 I have 323F BG for 3 years now, it could rust almost anywhere. I think it depends on the weather conditions and country because how much salt they use in their roads. But i had some rotting parts before.
I had a black model 91/92 L plate here in the UK it drove like a gem, miss the drive of nostalgia so badly
I learned something New with that Injectors trick👏
I remember these pieces of junk. I had a 626. It didn't have the 4-wheel steering or the 4wd but it had the turbo, moonroof and it had oscillating fans in the dash. They went back and forth to coole EVERYONE in the car. So awesome. It was designed well ahead of it's time.
My first car ☺️ Greetings from 🇵🇱
My first too 🇵🇱
I Havel one in my Garage in top condition
1989 i am using this car ONLY in summer
It Is absolutly superb
Looks like maybe the slave cylinder is sticking. Im amazed by how resilient this car is. Ready for part 2!
I have a 323f BA but it was my neighbour's red BG that got me hooked on Mazdas as a kid
I've had 2 323 BGs, awesome cars
I own a 1994 model with the 1.8 liter 103HP engine. Its a great car
We had one like this back in the day, it was a head turner.
I could see the diamond in the rough in this video. With a little TLC, this could be a great car again.
This car is road legal for now.
I have one 323, this is perfect machine ❤️
It's good handring and good design
I have the 1.8 gt bp 1989 and after 33 years it is still a dragon car. in Greece at least we do not have snow and the body is like new. 3 days ago we managed to reach 210 km. I love this car for its simplicity and its elegance, really unhappy there are no such cars that I like to drive the sports car of Japan 1989 ... mazda 323f bg gt mazda familia !! !!!
