Correct. I’ve only recently learned enough about nuclear power to no longer be afraid of it. There are certainly challenges with some technologies and the industry needs to be regulated - for one thing, don’t build them in seismically active or other vulnerable areas - but it’s amazing how my views have changed just by understanding how nuclear power plants work.

The bit at the end with Emad describing how he can see color for the first time is, to me, further evidence that Arrival is the best scifi movie of the 21st century and the best one since 2001: A Space Odyssey. The whole premise of that movie is about how encountering and immersing yourself in other ways of thinking, such as learning new languages, rewires your mind to the point that new abilities begin to emerge.

14:04 when when we got the Internet, we assumed free information and communication would help people be smarter/get to the truth.
Turns out people found echo chambers and found voices which confirms the things they thought were true and just made them believe more in their believes.
Also the algorithms helped them find easy answers to complicated problems, that always turn out not not to be true.

When I got access to the Internet (back in 1991 through my university), I was excited about the access to information and channels of communication it opened up for me. I still am. I am learning new things everyday from sources that wouldn’t have been open to me in the past. I can do this from the comfort of my home, which I can also work and study from, at only the cost of the technology that makes this possible.
I’m not looking for echo chambers. The Internet makes it possible to read and hear the opinions of others from different countries and social spheres. It has broadened, not narrowed, my world. Algorithms are only useful if you mindlessly follow their suggestions instead of picking through them and using search tools.

That plumber learns more with every job, and related that back to AGO god, who then evaluated that knowledge and can push it to all other 'plumber-bots', thereby teaching them all constantly.

Energy scarcity (perceived) is the basis of social control. If energy cost goes to zero there is a loss of social control. For those in control to keep control they have to control (cost of unit of energy / per person).
To maintain control you have to artificially maintain high cost of energy (the numerator), or have to move the denominator (people) to zero to maintain the ratio.

Maybe AI can teach us to be more human! Imagine if our personal assistant AI acting in its Augmented Intelligence mode where the objective function is to increase human agency. We learn to interact with our PAI (Personal Augmented Intelligence) in an almost continuous dialogue mode - perhaps in a mix of conscious and unconscious way. Would this serve to enhance our Reflexive Self Consciousness? I believe that this might be the route to alignment, by which I mean, Self Alignment (not selfish alignment). My underlying tacit assumption is that ethical behaviour arises naturally from a self realised individual. Love to hear others’ thoughts on this.

This conversation brings Snowpiercer to mind. Mind you, in the show, the train has truly limited resources, BUT what if this was not true, and yet the controllers of the "train" had all of the power to artificially create scarcity down train simply because they control the trains "engine"?

For a CEO who immediately jumped ship when times got tough, he sure wails the title of "former ceo of stability AI" around a lot. I liked him but the man is just shooting predictions from his hips and not much else nowadays. Anybody can do that.

I'm not sure that digital resurrection of someone is a healthy way to deal with their passing. People will be using it to combat grief instead of dealing with grief. Or maybe it will help with the grieving process. It's inevitable, but I just don't know.

It's not all about AI . Humans will make human enhancing decisions about AI if they are aware...first... of their state of consciousness when they make AI enhancements. Are you coming from a place of kindness, love , contentment and inner peace when developing models for AI implementation?

Concerning ai generating its own content, a similar thing must have happened to beethoven when he went deaf. His last piano sonatas sound as though they come from another realm. The blind poet Milton is another example.

Politics determines how wealth is distributed within a country, while wars and diplomacy determine how wealth is distributed between countries.
The citizens of the world's richest and most powerful country face issues that are the results of government policies such as persistent inflation, stagnant wages, soaring healthcare costs, a student loan debt crisis nearing $1.7 trillion, and an education system burdened by increasingly unaffordable tuition. Inadequate public transportation, racial inequality, mass incarceration, militarized policing, deteriorating infrastructure, unaffordable housing, homelessness, the opioid epidemic, and rampant gun violence.
It is difficult to see a path for AI to benefit most US citizens unless it political system works for everyone. Chinese citizens do not experience any of the above problems. Superintelligence with a win-lose scarcity mindset will lead to a dystopia, while superintelligence with a win-win abundance mindset will lead to fairer societies.
