@@shearman360 Gen 7 is a bit better tbh, but Gen 5 tried more and stuck to the original philosophies of Pokémon more if you actually analyze it or pay attention to some interviews with Masuda. So personally, my respects go to Gen 5 for trying to innovate so much more.
The addition of the regi-pokemon and many other secret pokemon in b/w2 made the game feel so much more expansive. Genesect is still the coolest pokemon

Dude I recently noticed I had lost my pokemon black cartridge, searched for it everywhere, didn't find it. I got so upset, not only because I would be able to take a look at my team from 10 years ago, but because I would genuinely enjoy playing the game again

Gen 5 just had so much charm to it. Was it perfect? Hell no. A few of the Pokémon looked like shit, the world was super linear (which subsequent games copied), and the plot was nonsensical at times. But was it fun? Yes. This is when gamefreak peaked. A game with soul and a wonderful atmosphere, with every city feeling different, all the Pokémon having charm, and the boss fights hard as fuck. This was Pokémon at its purest form. Everything since feels like it's too scared to go balls deep like black and white. Amen apanda can't agree more

I doubt it'll happen but I think the Dragonquest 11 option of letting us use the sprites OR the 3D models would do wonders for a gen 5 remake

I think they should animate the 3d models to do the idle animations like they did in black and white HOW SICK WOULD THAT BE i say we get atleast updated sprites and they are animated like they are in Black and white hopefully beautifully on the new future console! I was a Gen 5 fanboy day one and seeing the general consensus go from polarizing to near universal adoration is great because people finally see how great these games are, but also annoy me because I feel like the initial reception to these games is why every game after Gen 5 feels like a bunch of nostalgia-baiting gimmick fests.
It's the same in the Paper Mario fandom. Everyone shat on Super Paper Mario when it first dropped but now people look back on it fondly, especially considering the last few entries we've gotten.
Even worse, it's pretty much confirmed that the backlash towards SPM (most of which was focused on the plot and original characters) is why Miyamoto wants every Paper Mario game to be a bland, cookie cutter Mario experience from now on (one of his mandates is no new or unique characters, for example).
When asked about the removal of RPG mechanics Miyamoto legit had the audacity to say "No one wants another TTYD". That really stung because that's one of my favorite games on one of my favorite consoles.
I tell you, the mass ammount of people that hated on gen 5 withot a reason are the main cause as to why Pokemon sucks now. Gamefreak will never ever take a risk as large as pokemon black and white 1 and 2
When you talk about the ost, I think I know what makes you feel the way you do: Unlike what started happening to the games since gen 6, gen 5 was still a DS game, which means ALL the music is still very much a MIDI FILE with a 12 TRACK/INSTRUMENT LIMIT PER MIDI, aka, it is as charming as possible while ALSO being limited!
EDIT: I'm one of the like 10 gen4/5 modders so I actually kinda know how the game works lol

Running a Nuzlocke in White 2 made me appreciate the game's design and structure on a whole new level.
It also put the fear of God in me.
Randomized nuzlocke in either B&W 1-2 makes you realise how much you don't want to exist sometimes

this is a video where i can confidently say apandah is the most based he could ever be. gen 5 has received a sort of renaissance in terms of fans but its definitely the generation that has the most amount of content and passion poured into it despite being the lowest selling generation. i have played both black/white and black/white2 to death (im playing volt white 2, the rom hack- right now as i type this) and theres still content i havent ever reached: black city/white tower, that fucking post game resort with the shiny haxorous, PWT battles, rematches, etc. theres so much to these games and its insane. some people like to claim gen 5 was the start of the pokemon downfall and you could argue that but its because of all the backlash the generation received mark the downfall of pokemon. its why there was so much kanto pandering gen 6-8.
I'm sorry for making a whole ass essay but it's just thoughts I've always had regarding this generation

Nah dude you're fine, I completely agree with you. Gen 5 is just such a special generation in all of the best ways and I'm so glad it's getting more recognition lately.
The village bridge theme is a shining example of a simple yet amazing soundtrack. When I first discovered which NPCs to talk to to get the full soundtrack to play I put down my DS and just listened to it for over half an hour

I personally believe the games from HG/SS to BW2 were the best ones, they had heart and...soul put into them, and they had loads of content! I loved the story in Gen 5, and that they made a whole new game instead of making the same game with a couple new things
Also they added difficult mode, something that everyone was asking
Or as it is called, Challenge Mode and Easy mode
However the bad thing that you need Pokemon Black 2 to exchange the key of Challenge mode to White 2 (Black 2 gets challenge mode and White 2 gets easy mode)

I wish I still had my old 3ds, had so many logged hours on SS and BW2. I played SS more for a good couple months, maybe even a couple more years. Such a great game.

Well, the art is subjective, i talked to some and theres those that just doesnt like sprites at all, and others that doesnt like the... Jagged look that the sprites have mid-motion
I think it was outcasted by the upcoming, and eventual release of 3d models. Mind you, the game was released at the end of the DS lifeline, so the promise of a new pokemon game on the new console hype was huge.
I mean we all know how that turned out tho. some of the 2d sprites, designed and made to look good on 2d don't translate well on 3d. Future iterations of pokemon in terms of design look significantly better made to fit the format, unlike nidoking or something.

I remember getting White 2 for Christmas when I was a kid, it was the first Pokemon game I ever had, and it kickstarted my Pokemon craze that lasted all the way until Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. I loved that game so much and made so many memories with it. Good times☺

Weird coincidence: I just started playing pokemon white a few hours ago. Although the back sprites are pixilated as hell, I think gen 5 was peak DS.

It was pixilated because they pushed the graphics of the DS, it was meant to be played on the original DS compared to the 3ds that has the 3D filter making it look weird sometimes

I remember I was 9 when I played Pokémon Black for the first time in 2010 and I fondly reminisce over playing Pokémon Black on the ride to school. My friends and I would meet up at recess and talk about our favorite teams and argue over which Pokémon is the best it was a lot of fun

gen 5 was my first introduction into the series so i didn't even know what i was doing cause i barely knew how to speak english or understand it. my hardest challenge was using the *hm cut* and opening the library for the 2nd gym it took me 2 years to find out. i didn't even know there were things called as walkthroughs ahhh so many memories

i started with Fire red however i love gen 5 so much (literally my favorite route theme is route 10 from Black/White before the victory road, sadly it was blocked in pokemon black 2 /white 2 but the composer plays it in the same house as the ex Team magma and ex Aqua grunt couple)

Holy shit, I was sitting here thinking to myself “Is this the same version I used to play on my older brothers DS when I was 5?”, and as I was thinking “Nah.”, I see the part where you put the cutscene of the lore on the screen, and it all fuckin hits me like a train.

Gen 5 and 6 were amazing. Gen 6 is my personal favorite because it was the first Pokemon game I beat but also the music and the French culture gave the game this unique style that no Pokemon game has ever beaten. I do wish they were longer though.

I full heartily agree with this, B&W and their sequels will always stay in my heart as the first actual game I've ever played and still own 11 years later. From the start to the end, these games have been a standing ground on who I am and what makes a game fun to me. I miss these games, and I wish gamefreak went back to this format.
It’s so fun to watch someone online gush over a game they really loved and appreciated as a kid. It’s a welcome change of pace, especially considering the usual talk about Pokémon.
I’m really hoping Legends is a great game (haven’t bought it yet); considering reviews from everyone, it sounds really fun and changes up the formula a lot more. If that’s the case, I’m hoping this game will show Game Freak that we want more risks and new crazy ideas in the franchise. I hear it has sold 6 million copies in it’s first week, which is already almost half of what Black and White made in its overall run (not counting B&W2), so there’s already good signs that we might get more risks in the future
Based Apandah. Black and White were my first Pokémon games, loved them. The music is so good (the elite 4 music is such a banger), and there was so much to do and explore in the game and the endgame

I whonestly cant wait to try these games. Ive had so much fun with swsh and bdsp ( just got arceus and im about to play that as well) and i really want to see how the older games are like. Every gen has so many unique aspects and design and i love it. This is why its my favorite franchise

I can't express enough my love for HeartGold & SoulSilver, I got the privilege to play both and adored them, they were my first introduction into Pokémon franchise outside of the show and HG SS absolutely cemented Pokémon as huge part of my life. I tried some other Pokémon titles here and there, Rangers being another one I enjoyed thoroughly, but nothing had really gripped me as HGSS did b4, until Black & White 1. Then I was hooked even further than I was before. And to have a youtuber I enjoy share that same opinion and address it within the first 40 seconds brings a joy unlike any other. Thank you Mr.apadah.
The fact that a group of people can all say they like Pokémon and all mean completely different things is fascinating to me. One person could be talking about the new games, another the old ones, there could be a genwunner in there too, a fan of the anime, someone who actually knows the TCG rules, and your 6 year old cousin who thinks Pokémon Go is one of the best things ever created, second only to Fortnite.

I got into Pokemon because of gen 5. I remember going to like an opening after a day at comic con in New York one night with my brother back in 2012-ish and they had black amd white merch and it was amazing. Then on Christmas I got white and white 2. Was literally obsessed with this game and still today, I have a deep connection to gen 5. Favorite gen ever
Pokémon Black and White were those games where you wish you could replay it for the first time again
White 2 was my first Pokemon game, and after all this time, still being a huge fan of the series, it's still my favourite. The way I see it, HGSS and B2W2 have great gameplay, variety, and an obscene amount of content. As it should be.

I do agree on saying, that the Black and White series of Pokemon is what I thought as well is the Peak of Pokemon. Animated Battlers, so many new pokemon in 1 region, and it has the best OST. It was also one of the harder games.
One thing also, probably the best story. Legends Arceus comes close with a really good story as well.

Yes N is a good character (easily in my top 5), but he's not like the best written character in all of media like some people claim.

My only issue with gen 5 is that the story is a bit too anime for my likings, and that the region is a lot more linear than say Sinnoh. Other than that it’s really one of the best of the series and such a better direction than whatever the fuck the 3D games are.
Thank god Unova isn't like Sinnoh full of npcs in every 5 minutes blocking your way, oh also imagine having to use a hm slave everytime you play
