I’m so glad that you’re emphasising the importance of exploration in this game. Way too many people say that the game is too hard, but the entire game they exclusively follow the main path. If Margit is one of the first 5 bosses you beat then you’ve surely gone wrong somewhere. I’ve managed to go through about 14 hours of content before fighting margit, so it baffles me why people run straight to him then call him too hard.
Yeah, Margit was my first soulsborne boss. So he was really difficult for a player like me. All I did however was level up and figure out his move set. Enemies just got easier from there. Especially when you figure out you can't just kill each boss the same way.

Or maybe they just follow the directions pointed out by each site of grace that they sit at. Those directly lead you to Margit. People have been railroaded in video games for so long that it has been the norm, it is no longer an explorative experience, it's a goddamn theme park ride. They just thought the same of Elden Ring. Is it the fault of the player? Partially, but it is partially the fault of the developer too. The site of grace direction pointing mechanic should not have been there in my opinion. Plenty of NPCs point you towards Stormveil, they should just trust the player base a bit more. They trusted us with the Haligtree secret, why not with the game's direction?
@@arkayv Its the fault of the player. If i see a huge open world and enter a new area, naturally i wanna finish the first area first. I got to Margit with level 50 (!!!) and naturally it was easy. The only real problem i have with the game, is that later enemies are as fast or faster as in bloodborne, while you kept the DS3 movement. You literally need quickstep/bloodhound step to compete with some lategame bosses cuz they are extremely fast.

All the other reviewers seemed to kinda miss the entire point of it being an open world game that can be explored, that you for recognizing that in your 8 minute review when official reviewers fail to mention it in a 50 minute monologue

My 58 year old dad broke my controller after dying from the tree sentinel. And then he decides to repair it himself and play once more. He finally enjoy this game, even talking to me about the lore he discovers along the way. After two weeks, he finally beaten Elden Ring.

My 58 year old dad has been playing apex for the past 2 years and is probably the worst player I’ve ever seen, but he loves it, even if people are way too good for him. I should make him try elden ring.

I also think elden ring is more colorful than other soulslikes, wich is a small detail, but it really is more pleasing to see.
I definitely do agree with that. Some of the older games like demon souls or Ds1 were less colorful probably because of hardware limitations. And Ds3 and bloodborne went for darker colors. There are some spot in Elden ring that just look beautiful, mostly because of the color.
I think it makes ER lose some of this dark essential atmosphere, or maybe create the other one.
Someone pointed out that ER really differs from DS and BB by being more colorful, powerful and festive of sorts. It's not dark fantasy anymore, it's simple good fantasy.

@@drakoronus i disagree, whats make something being "dark fantasy" isnt the colors or how dark the ambience is, its mainly themes, the mix of fantasy and horror, and i think the game being more colorfull reinforce the dark fantasy settings in the game, makes a nice contrast of a world really beautiful but inhabited by pure abominations

Yeah but you didn't really beat the game. Can't believe apandah used armor, rolled, used healing items, leveled up, swung. Not how you really play the game.
I do not understand why and how people say this game is one of the hardest souls game. Its probably the easiest I've ever played, and Ive been playing it slow and somewhat in order of what level you should be at each area.
Dunkeys video made me confused because he said he beat it 4 times at 40hrs each time. Theres no way he did most of everything the world has in those 4 times, I feel like he boss rushed each playthrough with each skill set. I'm on my first playthrough at 130hrs and I just beat the Fire Giant but ive explored every part of the map and I have LOADS of mats for everything which is why i was confused when he said the upgrade system was bad? Its so easy to upgrade more than ever. I aint a pussy though and havnt gone past SL130. I embrace the pain.

People probably say that it's the hardest souls game because bosses are fast, have long and complex combos and the game's artificial difficulty making everything in the game 2 shot you if you're an appropriate level. Of course those people are probably also playing Elden Ring like it's dark souls 3, just spamming roll and r1, so we can go ahead and disregard their opinions anyway

@@jaguarndr barely and if I do it's to kill a boss I missed earlier in the game faster since I only use the Bird That buffs damage and I have only used the greatsword all game (the big dick hunk of metal). And before you say it, I try to minimize the jump attack abuse unless it's needed lol.
@@halocray nah man the game is easy for us that have played every souls games, i can look at a boss and know how to dodge his attacks, noobs will struggle like we did in our first souls, but it depends too, there a lot of tools to make it easier but it wont save you from the endgame bosses.
Elden Ring has a built in difficulty system with exploration and the use of summons. My friend stopped playing after not being able to beat Margit but he was only level 11 and rushed to Storm Veil after talking to Varre. After I told him to explore he absolutely loved it since he was able to level up, find better weapons and become overall stronger making the game as a whole easier. You can also use summons to make the game even easier if you find certain sections too difficult :)
I always appreciate someone who dislikes something able to change their mind, or when someone absolutely loves something and is able to critique it’s downsides.
10/10 was my initial conclusion but after 100 hours I realized how many dungeons and enemies are reused and how many items are unbalanced be it terrible or too good. 9/10

I got bloodborne as my first souls game when it came out for ps plus and i quit after deciding it was too difficult. I didnt touch it for almost a year until i decided to try it out again where it became my favorite game of all time. Souls games are usually like that, you drop it, then come back later to love it

I feel literally the exact same way. I never liked any of the games, and it was like "Wow... 80 bucks Canadians? Is it really worth even trying? All my friends love it, I wish there was a demo so I could try it with no money investment."
Then I just bought it anyways and tried it, and got addicted like immediately.

The reason I think it’s harder is cause the way they made enemies give runes some enemies in this game are harder then some bosses yet they still only give you like 1 - 2 k late game which is not even close to enough, in the older games (which you haven’t played so you didn’t know) it actually felt like you were progressing cause enemies give you more souls therefore getting stronger, elden ring does have that yes but it’s so much less then you actually need, the only way for me to level up (where I’m at) is to kill a boss or do the rune farm cause nothing gives enough runes (level 122 btw) so yeah that’s my verdict on it

Theres this valkyrie knight dude in haligtree just before one of the sites of grace there. Dude drops 6k runes/kill. Still a drag to farm a lvl with that at 120 tho.
Yea but there’s so many more consumable rune items than in any other souls game. The glowing skulls you can break and get little poppable runes are littered everywhere and will refresh when you sit at a site of grace. I finished the game with probably close to 500k-1 mill worth still sitting in my inventory unused. And those were just from exploration- you could literally farm them from enemies and crushing skulls.
@@pievancl5457 yeah but also cause of how little harder enemies give you there not a great farm in ds1, 3, bb and 2 there was always enemies that were farmable enough to level every like 5 minutes in this game it’s like 20 minutes and most skulls I’ve seen gave me 1 or level 2 consumable runes which is like 200 runes each

Funnily enough, the most I died to a boss in Dark Souls 1 (my first DS game) was 5 times. I had no experience with the formula, but I didn't find it very hard for some reason. I was surprised after hearing constantly about how hard these games were.
This makes me feel way better as somebody who thought he took to long to beat the game.
Elden ring is the only game (aside from maybe Portal 1 and 2) where it did not only lived up to the hype but it exceeded it

When somebody says, "Darks Souls games are bad because they're too hard," and they quit partway through without trying to overcome that challenge, I take a lot of issue with that. You're criticizing the game for an element that is a big part of what people like about it: the no-nonsense difficulty that punishes you hard for your mistake and challenges you to adapt and overcome. It's not just hard because they wanted to make a hard game. There are much more difficult games that don't hit the mark like FromSoft games do. The reason this challenge works so well is that it fits the narrative - you are some scrub in a harsh, unforgiving world presented with the challenge of killing gods or whatever and unless you can persevere you will end up failing and going hollow or whatever like countless others in your same position. This is part of what brings that satisfaction of beating the games and the challenges, and what allows it to feel like a role-playing game.
On the other hand, when people say "I hate these game because they're too hard"... I get it. They are hard. They're frustrating and punishing and that doesn't make for a good experience for everybody. I hated Dark Souls the first three times I picked it up then quickly put it back down. I only became immersed when I finally made it to and eventually beat the gargoyles some months or maybe years later. It's not for everybody, and despite loving the games myself I totally understand and even support the people who don't like them. Your tastes are valid.
It's pretty impressive that Elden Ring succeeded in delivering a similarly challenging, if not more challenging, experience as those games but still managed to provide the means for more people to overcome its obstacles aside from "gitting gud" and mashing your face into the same boss over and over. Thanks for providing your perspective!

Most people do not fail on one boss for hours. They learn how to defeat the bosses then they do. I feel sorry for anyone who cannot learn from experience.

Dsr is alot like elden ring when it comes to how much stronger you can get by just exploring and speccing right
I think when people say it's too hard it focusing on that fact that you could have 60 vigor and Radhans armor and a boss can still pull up and decimate you in a few moves. It's a hard game, but at a certain point it becomes annoying and not challenging when Radagon's big ass AOE attack kills you when you were at 80% health and not 100%.

Every since I played through Bloodborne I've considered myself a fan of the Soulsborne genre, and seeing that you've had a similar experience through Elden Ring brings a big smile to my face. Why people think the game is "too hard" even for Souls "vet":
1. Following the same strategy back in DS1, 2, 3 or Bloodborne. You have new combat mechanics. Use them to your advantage. Pure melee isn't the only good way to go now.
2. Not exploring the world and getting stronger.
3. Not levelling up vigor (for real though this reason is probably the main one for like 30-40% of the complaints)
Though I do agree with Dunkey's statement of how the lategame difficulty just increases 10x. Like the enemies just get like 5x more health and 10x more damage after Morgott and this is especially seen basically everywhere in the Mountaintops area. For some reason, Farum Azula drops the difficulty back to like normal for a Souls game which is weird but I'm not complaining.
Dont forget that the enemies also get 2x as fast and do 2x as much combos. The standard DS3 roll is just not designed for enemies this fast.
In an area I hear a waterfall from a mile away and o boy o boy was that waterfall out of the map far far away and I still heard it
Elden Ring is the hardest and the easiest Fromsoftware game, if you rush it you will get 1 shot by the bosses, if you explore or know what you're doing it's easy.

Sekiro boss gauntlets are probably the most difficult challenge in any FromSoft game. The other games are relatively mild with a few exceptions, most of the time optional.

i did like 95% of the game and the final strech of bosses was still a pain, even with my great summon and op magic build, imagine if i hadnt levelled vigor, i dread the future in my sheld only run rn

Interestingly I remember veterans of the series thinking this was one of the easier entries in the game
Dude finally someone who thinks open world games are boring, like i agree zelda and terraria and other games can make it work but you actually need rewards for example in terraria you get accessories and weapons for just opening random chests, in botw you get weapons and shields and shrines. But man there are so many games that just plop you down somewhere and you basically don't get anything out of it only some useless collectibles or underpowered gear.

The funniest thing is that the reason Elden Ring is so popular is because it can either be stupidly easy or insanely difficult depending on your playstyle which makes it the mosy accessible souls game. The reason this is funny is because you have people complaining that the game is too easy or too difficult and then there's other people who say the game is too accessible or not accessible enough.
This is why we can't have good games because publishers try and pander to everybody instead of sticking with their core audience.

Well, fortunately it's mainly a singleplayer game. So everyone gets to chooce how they play it. If they don't like it hard, they can level up to absurd amounts and steamroll everything. And the masochists can keep trying the same boss for 50 times over if they want. The wonderful thing about the open world-ness unlike the other souls games is that you can go off and do other stuff whenever you get stuck against that brick wall of a boss fight.

I was stuck on the wolf of radagon so i went around killing and doing dungeons, got a lot of gold coins or what they are called. Used all of them was able to level up 5 times… but i didnt click confirm… and went back to radagon died and noticed how i have 20k runes inside the boss arena. How do i end my life? Any tips?
You get the runes and quit the game. You'll respawn outside the arena.
