    Congratulations on the post, you helped me solve the focus problem on the Nikon D810 for video, without needing another camera with automatic focus, just a folus focus and it was solved. Thank you

    Excellent job speaking about focus ring controller - linear Vs non linear. I did not know this existed. Now I finally know how on all the UA-cam videos this is accomplished with all the videos demonstrating the small rig mini focus pull. No one ever talks about this feature so I thought that the small rig focus pull automatically focuses from Point a to point B. It does not. The camera must do this.

      To my knowledge only certain Panasonic LUMIX lenses offer this linear focus option. It works very well. Some lenses have a “clutch” that will switch from electronics to mechanical focus.

    THE RETURN OF THE QUEEN 👏👏👏👏👏 Loved how you said "practice makes a man perfect" then showed a clip of Jib shaking her head 😂 The manual focus puller seems like it would probably be the solution for the most widespread scenarios. I don't know if you write a script and read a teleprompter or what, but you've become very good at presenting a lot of information clearly and concisely. It's a rare gift that only the best teachers possess 👍🙏

    Manit, thanks for the tips. Helpful for me as a newbie trying to teach myself videography skills. I'm now using Sony kit (mostly stills currently but just bought a FX3 to pursue videography) and thought as their AF was so good and fast that I didn't need to manually focus any more. That said I still manually focus for c/u non time critical shots for precision. Now I better understand why manually racking focus can look better and give you control over what you want especially at wide apertures.
    I'm now going to buy a manual FF unit (debating SmallRig v Tilta) to start practicing. If and when I feel the need then I'm not averse to buying a wireless pulling set-up. But, feel I should start fully manual to learn, practice and get a good feel first, before splurging.

      @@ManitMonsur so you would say that it is (way) more easy to focus manually with a follow focus instead if the focus ring on the lens itself.?

      Unfortunately, there is not much content online showing how to set linear focus control in Sony cameras. Not sure why but here is the only video I've found that mentions about the feature: ua-cam.com/video/ywzqEnp0MvM/v-deo.html

    Thanks for this video! I have selected linear focus control. What puzzles me though is that you say the speed you rotate the ring does not matter, only the amount of degrees you turn it. But when I turn the ring fast or slow the speed I get from focus point A to focus point B is different. And by the way you explain it, it should always be the same right?

    • @ManitMonsur
      @ManitMonsur  2 роки тому

      Thank you for your feedback.
      X amount of rotation for slow speed get your focus from point A to point B .
      Also, X amount of rotation for higher speed gets your focus from point A to point B.
      The rotation speed can be your creative choice on how fast or slow you would want to change your focus from point A to point B. Since it doesn’t effect linear focus control.

    It's funny, auto-focus is such a huge "must have" until you get used to manual focus. After learning to manual focus (it's WAY less difficult than you think...), you almost completely distrust auto-focus and look for ways to avoid it.
    For videography, you quickly realize how limited the use cases for AF really is (Vlogging, etc).
    AF is like training wheels. It's great when you first pick up a camera, but MF is what lets you REALLY fly.
    Seriously. Just disable AF and tinker with MF around your house or messing around out and about. You will very quickly realize how 2nd nature it becomes and you'll do 90% of all future shooting in MF.
