Would love a part 2 to this if you have capacity. We need more hiphop and R&B transition videos to offset the unnecessary amount of EDM transition videos in the atmosphere.
That hardcut went way harder than any tutorial video has any right being! I've been mixing electronic & club music for well over a decade and can scratch somewhat decently. However more open format & Hip-Hop DJing has always eluded me since the transitions are so abrupt and can sound less than fluid but this gave me some ideas and inspiration. Thanks for the video =)
You’re very welcome! Glad the video helped!! I love the hard cut and will be doing an explainer video on it pretty soon. It definitely is a good transition when done right!
Working on posting a full mix VERY SOON. Waiting on my new Mac to get here. I have a 2015 Macbook Pro currently and the RAM just can't keep up with recording the screen and Serato DJ at the same time. After a few minutes, things get unaligned. New mac is ordered, but unfortunately on backorder. Coming sooner than later!
This video like all your videos are like gold to me!! But can we please see these techniques one by one with steps a lil slower n on the left side deck I’d appreciate the living hell out of that. Thank u so much 4 all of your videos cuz they def made me a better more confident dj much love ❤️
Thanks! Yeah, I realized I could have gone in to more detail. I typically do a slow fade out utilizing about 8 bars of fading in while fading out simultaneously. It can be done quicker but the slow fade sounds a lot better in my opinion.
@@djswags3073 there’s a short period of time the songs will overlap that will technically be a blend. So I suppose I’d say don’t start fading out your track until the track you’re fading in is audible to the audience. Doesn’t have to be 100% of course, but maybe at say 60-75%.. then begin fading out the track out slowly
I feel you bruh. Appreciate the constructive criticism. It’s hard to keep viewers’ attention for videos that are longer than 8 minutes or so, but I’m always thinking of ways to get better 💯
Appreciate you! And nope, not always. Whenever I’m looking to do a quick and easy transition, especially between different BPMs, I use the fade in/fade out.
Hi DJ Liftoff I’m Joi I follow your every move the it’s the Sunday gospel n it’s been most helpful then all over videos I’ve tried. So my question is I’m still having a lil trouble transitioning fr song 2 song can u plz make a video going slow step by step the back spin transition but tell us what to do with the mixer too when to slide over with the fader like everything cuz I’m missing something still almost got it tho. All my friends r asking me to throw down n I’m like making excuses cuz I’m still not ready yet 😫Thanks 🙏🏽 ❤️
Hey Joi! I know who you are now, no need to introduce yourself aha 💯. Appreciate you as always! Glad everything is helping! So I’m going to try and explain it here and let me know if it makes sense. When you do the backspin, your crossfader will be somewhere in the middle because you’ll want to hear both songs at the same time right before you actually do the backspin. Once you pull the platter back, at the very end of the backspin sound (right before the platter stops and starts moving forward again) you’re going to move your crossfader fully over to the new song that you’re transitioning in to. And you should do it lol!! It’s always good to get out there and just give it a go even if you’re not “perfect” at everything yet. I used to be afraid to scratch in public, and when I first started, I messed up a few times, but my confidence skyrocketed because I just got better each time!
@@DJLiftOFF omggg u know me by now that is a huge honor!!! hope it’s not cuz I’ve been that annoying lol thanx for the motivation paciently waiting for more n more videos 🙏🏽 thanx liftoff

Good video..... I would like to know when you do your backspin. What do you lower, is it the volume, filter it low? I know if you just do it off the rip, it can be very loud.
Appreciate it! Very true. I tend to add just a little reverb to ease some of the loudness, and maybe even lower the track volume I’m back spinning as well at times. I find the reverb helps a lot more often than not, even if it’s just a little.
These are great. For whatever reason, I have a hard time doing a scribble from standing still like you did on the hard cut. Any advice on getting that record motion going so fast with no momentum behind it? Thank you!
You’re welcome! The scribble definitely takes some getting used too, especially at faster BPMs. What I did to practice - start at about 75/80 BPMs with a song/instrumental playing and just do a scribble and drop, over and over until it’s perfect at that speed. Slowly increase the speed, but not until you’re 100% comfortable and dropping the song after your scribble right on time. Whenever I can’t get the speed down, I literally always just slow it down, and gradually speed up.
@@DJLiftOFFthanks! What about the motion? Are you only using your wrist? Does the record wiggle under your finger tips? I feel like I am missing one small piece of the puzzle. I can scribble all day if I’m going to it from another scratch, but starting with the scribble is my problem. However, I will definitely use your suggestion for practicing!
@@daveb8795 welcome! And wow, both great points! Yes, it is mostly in my wrist when I’m doing a scribble, especially when not going in to from another scratch. I naturally hold my platters really lightly so it almost does feel like it wiggles under my finger tips but not technically. I also typically move the record with just my ring and middle finger - I’m able to move much quicker with 2 fingers than 3 or 4. But def a lot of the movement is in the wrist!
@@daveb8795 For me - the Scribble is done by ‘flexing’ the arm, so that it shakes from the tension, while your fingers are pressed firmly on the record. The shaking motion from your arm, down into your fingers translates into the Scribble sound that you hear. I hope this makes sense, brother. It’s difficult to put into words 😂
@@MACKMORRIS83 definitely makes sense. I used that method for many years, but as I got more advanced, I realized that I needed more record control on my scribbles. Turns out that all I really needed to do was practice it much more :)
Definitely. I would imitate and follow the hand movements exactly as you see in any tutorials because everything is the same. I would try and almost pretend the platter as moving as much as you can in your head in the beginning. There’s a steeper learning curve with a controller but if you stay diligent, you’ll get it down for sure!
I noticed you said you like to do the backspin 2 to 4 beats before you bring in the next song but I believe you just misspoke because in the video you do the backspin 2 to 4 beats into the next song....am I correct?
