    For anyone wanting to learn chords, I really recommend Kenny Werner's Effortless Mastery method. The essence is you write 4 chords every day (doesn't really matter which) and learn to play them in sequence and learn how they relate to each other so you develop muscle memory over time. Dude also has a lot of wisdom about how to play music and how to live life well.

    "Remove yourself from the finished product" I really needed to hear and solidify that idea in my head. It can be easy to think what the end goal is even though messing around without caring about the finished product usually gives the best results. I just need to apply that in a way where I can more easily get out of my own way. This video is a nugget of gold and I appreciate the understanding!

    As someone who strictly only uses a midi keyboard and FL studio, I found this to be so informative. Until more recently, I had no idea a large group of people were still making beats with hardware like this. I think I am going to try and dip a toe into hardware production at some point.

    • @rorz999
      @rorz999 Рік тому +3

      Go for it man. Totally different experience to using a DAW, one isn't better than the other. If nothing else, you'll definitely learn something!

    • @ParkerRoberson-jf8ew
      @ParkerRoberson-jf8ew Рік тому

      DAW production is amazing, hardware production is also amazing but a hybrid between both is elite!! (In my opinion)

    • @markmanter6508
      @markmanter6508 Рік тому

      @@ParkerRoberson-jf8ewhybrid setups are the way to go! I feel like it allows you to fully expand your palette of sounds you want and honestly allows you to utilize software in a different way than you normally would. For me, I can’t be creative just sitting in front of a computer with a DAW…I need a more hands on approach. Both aspects are super important, and not everybody NEEDS them to create, but it’s forsure helpful.

    • @jonasharp3
      @jonasharp3 Рік тому +2

      I agree with what others have said here about hybrid setups being great, but honestly the way to go is learning the tools that are already in your daw before getting any hardware or 3rd party plugins. Each daw has its strengths and weaknesses, and each user has different needs, so it’s best to figure out what that means for you so you can buy gear with intent. Otherwise you wind up with a pile of stuff you haven’t really learned how to use, and it can make it really tough to come up with ideas. Limits are the best thing for creativity.

      If you don't use the feature where you can plink around on the keyboard and then dump up to the last 20 min of midi data to a pattern, you're missing out on a huge way to do what this guy is essentially doing, but more powerfully.

Its good to see someone showing some actual production stuff as most people in the youtube "production" space are sort of leading people down the garden path by just showing folks production with sample packs and setting them up for a copyright claim and or loosing royalties because they used a sample that isn't cleared... more folks did it your way bro they wouldn't have to worry about clearing samples..great work mate

    Amazing chill and honest video, this is what so many entry producers need! I’m Looking also for a DAWless setup, I have the Deluge as my center piece, but still not satisfied. Now I’m thinking about using a Tascam 12/16 and/or the MPC one. Or the Octatrack but its difficult to make the right decision. I just want to have a hands-on less menu diving recording setup that doesnt’ kill the creative vibe.

    Great video and great beat!
    One of the biggest eye-openers in your videos is how you commit sounds to your sampler.
    I often sequence on my Analog Four, without sampling into my Digitakt. I want to maximise the number of tracks I have available and I want to keep the patch and sequence available in case I decide to change it later.
    If I had your set-up, I'd likely be creating the drum sequence on the Rytm, and keeping it there until I record the final beat. But that leads me to jump around between different machines and endlessly tweak patterns.
    I think that's one part of why your workflow is conducive to finishing songs.
    Another nugget of wisdom here:
    "The more I can detach myself from the finished product while I'm doing this part, the better the track seems to come out."
    Thanks for the knowledge!
