Great video and review. Those fire steels are absolutely beautiful and the prices are very reasonable. I’ve got to get a couple of them. Thanks for sharing.
Those are some of the unigue looking flint starters I have ever seen Sootch00. I like the way you show people on how to use the product, great job. Always long live the republic
Thank you! That’s not only beautiful but a perfect way to keep handy for fire starting and doesn’t take up much room for a bug out bag. Great price too.
as a kid here in Texas when we stayed with our grandparents we would go out in the woods with grandpa and pick up pine knotfrom fallen trees and bring home to keep for starting fires when needed. Natures fire fuel :o) Good Job on the video Don
Wow! I like the finish on the handles and the cross is creative with the ferro rod on it. I've been trying to figure out what kind of cool things to do with all my pine knots. I really like that finish they did. I'm so glad you shared this. Very inspiring. Thank you.
With regards to using the Cross in a survival situation it gives re-enforced meaning to the term "Jesus Saves". Really enjoy your videos. Watching some every evening. Thank You. Florida, USA.
I've been building my first couple of Bug out bags, going on what Sootch has in his Walmart guides. I have a fewer "higher end" items, previously owned and new over the walmart alternatives. My goal is to have a car bag for me and my fiance, a home bag for both, and a cache here. I also want to get my mom and dad some small bags. You've inspired me Sootch! Love the vids, keep em coming
I made shavings, put them in a Ziploc and used it a week later. It had dried up or "lost it's magic. I tried vacuum sealing it, and the same results. They must treat their shavings, aka Maya Dust, with something. I would definitely leave it in the plastic bag and seal it. Great looking fero rod handles! Pretty cool.
If you use fatwood as your primary source for tinder I think that it would be a good idea to carry it separately, using the handle of the rod only as a last resort. It looks like it would make firestarting much easier in the cold.
Been a long time subscriber and I love your vids. Could you do an updated video on a Get Home Bag. I work in the next county over from me and its about a 30 min drive, 25 miles away. I aleady keep a spare change of clothes, if something happened. I dont want to be caught walking in my Deputy Uniform lol not in these times. Thank you
Fatwood Firesteels i checked your website but the fatwwod steels you have listed arent quite as chunky and unique as these are....how would i go about ordering one like these beauties?
+Will Rainard check out our Etsy store. we usually put some like that there. Also, if you do not find what you like, I will make you what ever you would like. Pricing would not be the same though. Email me if you need.
So I bought one to add to my ridiculous amount of ferrorods. Not sticky. Beautiful piece. The fatwood ignites well. The striker is great the ferro rod is about just above average. I had better luck with the striker than using my knives.
I was thinking (not often). Check out chaga. It's also called tinder fungus. It grows on the birch up here. It'll hold an ember for hours and hours. Funny thing, you can make tea from it. Check it out. If you want a chunk let me know.
chuck oaks oh my gosh, you rock! I live in TN and have a P. O box 155 Harriman, TN 37748 🙂. Yeah!!!! I’m super stoked, will it cost you much to send? If so let me know and I can reimburse you. Dang, you made my day!
chuck oaks ok, I’ve watched a couple videos on it. It’s awesome how medicinal the tea is. I love learning about this kind of thing. Have you ever tried it? Also, is there any others birch fungus that looks similar to Chaga that is poisonous? Just curious, cuz I’d like to look for some on one of my hiking adventures.
Academy or Lowe's sells fatwood by the 10# bundle for like $9......I would hope people wouldn't spend their money on something like this....spend the money on a decent ferro rod with a handle, and get fatwood where it's cheap, everywhere.
Good video, but watching you use that striker to cut shavings was absolutely painful....wayyy too much work when your knife should be readily available.
I have a friend with two wood stoves and a huge wood shed. Inside he has 4 or 5 big buckets of fat wood. I once said oh you've got some fat wood he looked at me and said no that's pine. 😨😱😰
Bad choice after buying, the ones he has is not what I received. Good wood, for him because he is selling. He only sees what they send him. Mine were not close to the size he showed.
I seriously had to laugh at the tin of fatwood shavings....I can't imagine someone actually purchasing that for $5.99.....I made a fire last night in my house. I purchased 10 pounds of fatwood for around $9 at Academy, and I had more shavings using the back of my knife than could fit in that tin in about 30 seconds using my knife spine. Please don't advocate this waste of money. Pretty wood, but it's a serious waste of cash.
you have some very good vids but when state that those strikers are good it to say the least...in my mind they are a pos...too small, plastic, and hard on your hands...no good...
Sootch you do a very good job at what you are doing and help me to know what I need to do and put in my survival bag
Thanks Walt! I appreciate you watching.
Thank you sootch I would appreciate it if you can continue and do the boss kits

He does make some nice ones. I love mine. His nephew is my neighbor and he lives not far from me at all...
Thank you! That’s not only beautiful but a perfect way to keep handy for fire starting and doesn’t take up much room for a bug out bag. Great price too.
Thanks for watching Sylvia!
Is it just me or does everyone love fire videos. Good job.

Wow, Those look almost to pretty to use. The prices aren't that bad when you realize they include shipping. Thanks for letting us know about them.
Thanks for watching Scott!
Man the dragon tale looks so beautiful how in the world could one shave it off for fireatarting that would be my problem if I had one lol

Thanks Big Moe!

Fatwood Firesteels i checked your website but the fatwwod steels you have listed arent quite as chunky and unique as these are....how would i go about ordering one like these beauties?
You guys are offering some really beautiful pieces! Thanks again for sending them. They will be a regular part of my kit.

Anymore videos on stacking silver or gold?
I don't have anything coming up but a few in my video collection.

Thanks for watching Ryan!
Can these make fire under water?
Eternal Resolute yes as long as you use a straw to feed oxygen to the flame 🔥
Informative... thanks for sharing.
Thanks Kevin!
Shaving grace

HAHA, that's a great one!
That was some nice stuff, website is up and running
You should do a q&a to answer viewer questions
Good stuff!
Thanks Michael!
What knife is that ?
I'll bet it's the Benchmade 940 Osborne design, a Going Gear exclusive...
Looks like a Benchmade 940 to me.
Yes, Benchmade 940 Going Gear Exclusive. Sent from Marshall and I will carrying it from now on. Good memories.
This would be nice by the fire pit or camp fire. You could show it off and still impress your friends with your fire starting skills.
Definitely! Being the guy who can get the fire going is always appreciated : ) Thanks Chuck
Wasn't planning on spending $30 tonight, but thanks Scootch. My wood is fat now.
Lol! Glad to help Seth
Those do look cool 😎
great prices
Awesome review, keep it up! Do you think the fatwood would start to seep to the surface if I kept it in the bugout bag I have in my car?
The way it's sealed, I think it will hold up well but no reason not to throw it in a baggie if you're keeping it in a hot car.
Thanks Brother
SensiblePrepper. Sounds good man, thanks!
As long as it is not kept in direct sunlight it should not seep.
Cool stuff!
Great vid!
Thanks Andy!
Awesome!!!!

Jennifer R you should read up on it before I send any. Just to make sure that you would like some. You can Google it.

I got me a Fat Wood hehe
Beautiful pieces I'd hate to destroy them lol
I'll be using the practice wood : ) Thanks Scotty
Heyo!
Hi
SensiblePrepper Oh my gosh hello! This is like talking to a celebrity! XD

People should go out in the woods and collect fatwood, not use money on something you find for free in the woods.
Not everyone wants to scour the woods for it.
Lol. I was thinking the same thing. It's free from the woods.
Finding fatwood is a lot of fun, but these are amazing..
Sure, it's definitely a smart thing to do. This is a unique idea though and the reason I make the video. The coating on the handles is spot on.
Maybe people don't have pine trees near them, kinda like I don't have birch trees here. Both excellent tinders, but I can't access the latter option.
I gave up, when religion entered the narrative. Lol.
