    Those are some of the unigue looking flint starters I have ever seen Sootch00. I like the way you show people on how to use the product, great job. Always long live the republic

    Thank you! That’s not only beautiful but a perfect way to keep handy for fire starting and doesn’t take up much room for a bug out bag. Great price too.

    as a kid here in Texas when we stayed with our grandparents we would go out in the woods with grandpa and pick up pine knotfrom fallen trees and bring home to keep for starting fires when needed. Natures fire fuel :o) Good Job on the video Don

    Wow! I like the finish on the handles and the cross is creative with the ferro rod on it. I've been trying to figure out what kind of cool things to do with all my pine knots. I really like that finish they did. I'm so glad you shared this. Very inspiring. Thank you.

    I've been building my first couple of Bug out bags, going on what Sootch has in his Walmart guides. I have a fewer "higher end" items, previously owned and new over the walmart alternatives. My goal is to have a car bag for me and my fiance, a home bag for both, and a cache here. I also want to get my mom and dad some small bags. You've inspired me Sootch! Love the vids, keep em coming

    I made shavings, put them in a Ziploc and used it a week later. It had dried up or "lost it's magic. I tried vacuum sealing it, and the same results. They must treat their shavings, aka Maya Dust, with something. I would definitely leave it in the plastic bag and seal it. Great looking fero rod handles! Pretty cool.

    If you use fatwood as your primary source for tinder I think that it would be a good idea to carry it separately, using the handle of the rod only as a last resort. It looks like it would make firestarting much easier in the cold.

    So I bought one to add to my ridiculous amount of ferrorods. Not sticky. Beautiful piece. The fatwood ignites well. The striker is great the ferro rod is about just above average. I had better luck with the striker than using my knives.

    I was thinking (not often). Check out chaga. It's also called tinder fungus. It grows on the birch up here. It'll hold an ember for hours and hours. Funny thing, you can make tea from it. Check it out. If you want a chunk let me know.

    • @chuckoaks6756

      chuck oaks ok, I’ve watched a couple videos on it. It’s awesome how medicinal the tea is. I love learning about this kind of thing. Have you ever tried it?
      Also, is there any others birch fungus that looks similar to Chaga that is poisonous? Just curious, cuz I’d like to look for some on one of my hiking adventures.

    Academy or Lowe's sells fatwood by the 10# bundle for like $9......I would hope people wouldn't spend their money on something like this....spend the money on a decent ferro rod with a handle, and get fatwood where it's cheap, everywhere.

    Bad choice after buying, the ones he has is not what I received. Good wood, for him because he is selling. He only sees what they send him. Mine were not close to the size he showed.

  • @JeffsTrades
    @JeffsTrades 7 років тому

    I seriously had to laugh at the tin of fatwood shavings....I can't imagine someone actually purchasing that for $5.99.....I made a fire last night in my house. I purchased 10 pounds of fatwood for around $9 at Academy, and I had more shavings using the back of my knife than could fit in that tin in about 30 seconds using my knife spine. Please don't advocate this waste of money. Pretty wood, but it's a serious waste of cash.
