Fun fact -- the reason why bumblebees are able to fly is because their wings create helical vortexes, flipping their wings both forward and backwards to double their downstrokes, and press down against those vortexes to create TREMENDOUS lift forces. Sometime around 1980, I had a book called Bees Can’t Fly, But They Do. It actually had very little to do with bees. That was just in the prologue. The rest was more just, here’s some stuff that’s kinda weird/paradoxical. I borrowed this book from my school library, took it to read in the backyard, forgot about it and let it get rained on. That’s how I came to own the not-really-about-bees book. 🐝 📖 Also, if I saw a bee in clothes, I would assume a human had a very odd pet to make sweaters for. If it makes you feel better, I heard the bee myth in high school, and that wasn't even this century. I've never seen Bee Movie either. It's entirely possible that you got it from a pure strain of urban legend, one passed from human to human, untainted by Jerry Seinfeld.
The “laws of aviation” thing is referring to “according to the physics of planes”. And a big difference between planes and bees is that planes don’t flap their wings.
It continues to be wild to me that people most associate Patrick Warburton with his role in Seinfeld. That man was a prominent voice actor in like half of what I watched as a child
Weirdly enough, I think Willie and Bee Movie's versions of the "bees shouldn't fly" quote is a perfect image of their two different philosophies. Willie's ends with "but nobody told the bees that" line, which means that having the awareness of a problem makes it feel impossible to deal with. Meanwhile bee movie says that "bees don't care what humans think", which means that even if something is impossible or unwise, you can still do it anyway. In that way I guess the quote is perfect for the movie. Because the logic of filmmaking said "there's no way you can make an entire animated film based on half-baked bee jokes; but Jerry didn't care, and made the movie anyway.
Epic bee fact: Stingers are actually a modified ovipositor, an appendage that female bees, wasps and ants use to lay eggs. In stinging individuals like workers and soldiers it’s modified to be a stinger, attached to a poison gland at all, and male drones do not have stingers because they can’t have an ovipositor.

I'm not too much of a movie person but I do follow some reviewers of movies/series etc from different viewpoints but Willie really gives an off kilter breakdown. And bow I know for sure considering I've seen analyses of this movie before.
@@marlyd you've totally got it right. It's pretty impossible not to have at least some of the same observations and reflections as others when watching a piece of media - it's the same piece of media after all - it's the reviewer's personality that makes it unique.
I don’t care if other UA-camrs do something and in fact, I like watching videos about the same topic from multiple UA-camrs because they each bring their own style and thoughts to the table.
Your take on the bee movie is actually exactly what i needed, also I’m now overthinking the implications that the bee keepers saw the bees using clothes and furniture and briefcases and seemingly gave it no second thought
Ok so this is my first video of yours I've ever watched and I'm immediately enamoured. The presentation. The knitting. The quilt. Knitcholas. Your tone of voice. "Oh yeah that sounds fun but I can't do that that would break The Rules™. The ones that I set for myself." God yeah I feel that. Anyway I'm ten minutes in and I love it keep it up
This is my favorite UA-cam channel. I love the neurodivergence and anti-ablist attitude. And that subscriber count is a lot more than last time I paid attention to it. I've been watching Willie Muse for like a year? I joined up with the first ANTM video and I knew I found the comfort food my brain desires. ❤️ I love the genuine reflection in these videos. Just because ppl don't say these positive things all the time, doesn't make the positive things less true. Willie Muse with an audience of 1 is a worthy artist too.
bees die when they sting because their stingers are barbed and while this is useful when attacking other insects, where the barbs do more damage when they sting the gaps in their exoskeleton, the skin of humans and animals is more elastic and the barbs get caught, so the bee is unable to free itself without ripping its stinger out. do I think that the writers were taking this into account when making the joke about a bee stinging seven other bees? absolutely not.
I don’t watch movie UA-camrs for the specific movies they pick, but how they do it. Each of you bring your own flavor and ideas. Thanks for bringing your flavor.
I’d just like to highlight the fact that there are full dubs for the bee movie in Flemish, danish, Czech, and Croatian, and separate dubs for European and Latin Spanish.
I was gonna say, "Maybe you were overthinking the stinger sharpener... I assume it's like those cartoons where a bull sharpens their horn somehow." Then you showed the joke where he implies he's gonna drain it into a toilet and my brain collapsed into my spinal column. 😅
You've unlocked a memory of me also having the exact same problem with the bee clothes as a kid, so know that at least you weren't alone in that opening scene ruining the entire movie.
it's interesting how both the bee movie and Howard the duck (1986) spend an extensive amount of time establishing the world of a humanoid animal species in the first few minutes only to leave it behind for the human world, features a by now infamous interspecies romantic relationship that might be sexual, completely switches genres out of nowhere and has the animalistic protagonist come to the realization that humanity doesn't treat his kind very well. i hope this is intriguing enough to get people to watch Howard the duck.
I have what I suspect may be some answers - I think the honey as mouthwash and hair gel joke is that they use honey for everything - I think the sharpening the stinger is not some preparation of a weapon, but a core part of bee culture to maintain what could be a weapon. It is the way some people practice martial arts for discipline or exercise - draining the stinger may be referring to his beenis (bee cock), and he just calls it the stinger as a euphemism, the same way people say drain the snake - I think while discussing if he should talk to the human lady, he's speaking in bee. Which is their own separate language.
So glad the issues were resolved and we get to enjoy all your hard work!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝❤❤ Edit: i still can't quite believe that this movie was the origin of "ya like jazz??" But i can't track it back further. Isn't it weird when that happens?
i'm struggling with the news that "ya like jazz??" has become a thing apparently wholly independent of bee movie, that's such a quintessiantally bee movie meme
fun fact about the starting speech about bees and flying. It was started by a dude in 1930s. who kinda just calculated if bees could fly if they flew like planes. And you can perhaps hazard a guess that, bees don't use the same mechanics as planes do. They kinda just create really small air vortices and ride that hurricane. Also bees can count.
I have never broken the bee movie into those plots like Willie did, but the movie makes a lot more sense after he did. It adds a much needed structure to the movie so that it’s not just absurdity and one off jokes. Great video!
you could go on a stinging spree if you removed the stinger from a dead bee and used that as a weapon. if a stinger only has enough venom to kill one living thing then you'd sting a bee and then harvest its stinger for your next murder. also was that a reference to huffing petrol in the same clip 38:03
You should talk about seven brides for seven brothers. Do you want terrible morales? Do you to listen to songs with disturbing (but hilarious) lyrics like "bless her beautiful hide"? Do you want surprisingly beautiful dancing?
i'm picturing an alternate timeline where willie does get the bees shouldn't be able to fly tattoo, someone seeing it, laughing, going "haha bee movie" and then willie's eye widening, saying "WHAT"
Bees are corralled or slowed by smoke for essentially the same reason we are: lack of oxygen. Bees don't have lungs to be destroyed by smoke, so it's a viable method of control without permanent damage if done responsibly. That said, you could already make a case that that's a bit dark. But bees being forcibly stoned to shut up and work? We have so much dark history with human rights violations along that strain that I would be impressed if that's what they're legitimately going for, but this movie was not supposed to be deep.
When I was having anxiety attacks that were so bad I had to leave public school and couldn’t sleep in my room because I was too freaked out to be alone, I had convinced my mom to buy this movie for me and watched it nearly every night to bed for at least half a year 😬 I loved this video, really brought me back to the good moments in that time 💖💖💖
I gotta admit something: I grew up watching this movie from time to time, and my kid brain had no fckn clue Barry and the human were supposed to be romantically involved I just saw her as an animal lover taking care of just this little guy, little dude, trying to show her husband that Barry's not dangerous to him because he's intelligent
Even if other people have done it - I want to hear YOUR take too. In this world where most things hurt there is never enough distracting content to enjoy ❤ thanks for the content 👏🍿
$150,000,000 movie because your neighbor made a bad bee pun one day... That's when you know you've scraped the barrel and now are just gouging out wood chips 😂
i remember being forced to watch this movie in middle school with the teacher's excuse of showing how important pollination is (they just didn't wanna teach) i really hated being made to sit and watch it but i was also older than the target demographic i imagine
I've never seen Bee Movie, and I've never watched a video about it. I vaguely remember the ads for it when it came out, though. So, it's always just kind of lived in my head as that movie where a bee develops unrequited love for a human woman and rides on a windshield as a form of travel. I had NO IDEA there was all ... [gestures confusedly] ... this packed into it.
When I was little and saw this movie for the first time the idea of a bee and human falling in love was so ridiculous to me, I thought they were just really, really good friends. The romance went right over my head.
I always go into your videos expecting a goofy silly time, but then by the end of it you manage to make very insightful and thoughtful observations that make me think about my life in new ways. I’m excited for your next video 😊
Since you kinda asked what's to like about the thumbnail part: I find it calming way for a video to end, it's like a gradual drop instead of a hard hit into a wall.
Watching these videos always reminds me of going to the theater with my best friend where she just instantly whipped out knitting needles and a blanket she was working on and just went to town while staring at the movie. I commend the coordination, something I myself have never been able to get to because I'm too anxious about missing a bit lol
I’m sure that a) you already knew this or that 2) somebody already said so, but: worker bees are the females. Males are the drones that almost never leave the hive, because they’re constantly serving the queen. Right? That’s a thing I remember from somewhere, and the reason I always say something about “little sister” when helping rescue a honeybee from the swimming pool.
So biologist actually have studied bumble bee flight since those rumours went around. the truth is that the physics of bees was only off because the scientist who made the original observation thought bees flew with a birdlike up and down flapping, and the math didn't add up with the aerodynamics we know of. turns out bees move their wings in a figure eight like movement, and when they do that, it moves much more air that their tiny can't move with a simple up and down motion. when you calculate for that, you find that the math works out, and that the bees do, in fact, obey the laws of physics.
also about the 'related in hive' thing Lion King came upon similar problem with Nala and Simba, since lion pride's work in similar way. So they just sorta left it out, and implied Nala had a father from different pride...or her mother joined from different tribe so that Nala and Simba wouldn't be related in the movie. Sometimes, when you want to make animals anthropomorphic you have to sacrifice some more realism than just aesthetics.
The gorilla tribe in Tarzan is also doomed since only the silverback is mating with the females, since Tarzan becomes the new silverback/leader there will be no more gorillas born in that tribe. Nature is not as clean cut as disney wants it to be.
The description of the art movie that's like Interstellar but romantic has been made. It's a short Anime from 2002 called "Voices of a Distant Star." There are no bees in it, as far as I can remember, but it is really good.
I think one of the reasons I enjoy your content so much is because I'm right there with you the overthinking and listening to you ramble means that I can tune out my own overthinking for a little bit to be amused and inspired by the conclusions you come to.
I haven’t seen any deep dives on this movie or this movie yet. But this feels like everything I would have ever wanted to know in a much more entertaining package
4:33 I mean. I go around watching long video essays about shows and games and movies I've barely heard of from UA-camrs I barely know all the time. Maybe I'm weird. But y'know. There's an audience for everything, even if it's just me? Is that the moral?
I do love your entire video, but there’s just always something memorable in your closing posing. This one was the “two friends. Me and Barry. Posing with our arms crossed, la La la” XD

I am suddenly grateful for the copyright issues, because this is the best birthday gift I’ve gotten today!
Happy birthday! 🎉
@@bookshelfhoney Thank you! 😊
Have another great trip around the sun!🎉🌎🌞
Happy birthday 🎉
Happ birth!
Your take on the bee movie is actually exactly what i needed, also I’m now overthinking the implications that the bee keepers saw the bees using clothes and furniture and briefcases and seemingly gave it no second thought
BRB off to tell my man not to bother me for an hour and a half but to be ready for Bee Movie discourse
I think your bee quote was in Terry Pratchett's discworld before bee movie - he's a genius
Thanks for bringing your flavor.
agreed!!!
You've unlocked a memory of me also having the exact same problem with the bee clothes as a kid, so know that at least you weren't alone in that opening scene ruining the entire movie.
me too!! i remember hating this movie as a kid because even as I was watching it, I was overthinking it 😂
it's interesting how both the bee movie and Howard the duck (1986) spend an extensive amount of time establishing the world of a humanoid animal species in the first few minutes only to leave it behind for the human world, features a by now infamous interspecies romantic relationship that might be sexual, completely switches genres out of nowhere and has the animalistic protagonist come to the realization that humanity doesn't treat his kind very well. i hope this is intriguing enough to get people to watch Howard the duck.
It was nice seeing someone talk about the Bee Movie without focusing on who weird the relationship is for once.
I have never heard of this fella. But I find myself unable to look away. I'm enchanted.
FYI, you used the right amount of the word “overthink” in this video.
10/10, best breakdown of this insane movie
I have what I suspect may be some answers
- I think the honey as mouthwash and hair gel joke is that they use honey for everything
- I think the sharpening the stinger is not some preparation of a weapon, but a core part of bee culture to maintain what could be a weapon. It is the way some people practice martial arts for discipline or exercise
- draining the stinger may be referring to his beenis (bee cock), and he just calls it the stinger as a euphemism, the same way people say drain the snake
- I think while discussing if he should talk to the human lady, he's speaking in bee. Which is their own separate language.
Beenis

So jealous of your knitting skills, I’d be missing so many stitches, I can’t talk and knit! 🙈
I don't think Willie is too worried about missing an occasional stitch 😂
It's really relaxing looking, yet when I've tried I've always rage quit from my incompetence 😂
Willie you're the best! I'm glad the copyright issues got sorted and I'm excited to watch!
So glad the issues were resolved and we get to enjoy all your hard work!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝❤❤
Edit: i still can't quite believe that this movie was the origin of "ya like jazz??" But i can't track it back further. Isn't it weird when that happens?
Some might say its 🐝unbeelievable
i'm struggling with the news that "ya like jazz??" has become a thing apparently wholly independent of bee movie, that's such a quintessiantally bee movie meme
Thank you for making this video, I've always felt like there's never truly been enough Bee Movie content on the internet.
26:17 they should have had him put beeswax in his hair. Wax can be used to style hair while still keeping the bee theme
fun fact about the starting speech about bees and flying.
Waiting for Willie to make a video longer than the movie hes making it on
Woohoo a sponsor! You're moving up in the world. Congratulations! 🎉
You should talk about seven brides for seven brothers. Do you want terrible morales? Do you to listen to songs with disturbing (but hilarious) lyrics like "bless her beautiful hide"? Do you want surprisingly beautiful dancing?
i'm picturing an alternate timeline where willie does get the bees shouldn't be able to fly tattoo, someone seeing it, laughing, going "haha bee movie" and then willie's eye widening, saying "WHAT"
I'm not good at writing comments but- Your videos are so thoughtful and well made. I hope the algorithm gives what you deserve.
When I was having anxiety attacks that were so bad I had to leave public school and couldn’t sleep in my room because I was too freaked out to be alone, I had convinced my mom to buy this movie for me and watched it nearly every night to bed for at least half a year 😬 I loved this video, really brought me back to the good moments in that time 💖💖💖
I gotta admit something: I grew up watching this movie from time to time, and my kid brain had no fckn clue Barry and the human were supposed to be romantically involved
I just saw her as an animal lover taking care of just this little guy, little dude, trying to show her husband that Barry's not dangerous to him because he's intelligent
I just want you to know that this is the only video essay on the Bee movie I have watched. This year. ❤
I heard the "science doesn't know how bee wings support bee bodies" thing in the 90's
i remember being forced to watch this movie in middle school with the teacher's excuse of showing how important pollination is (they just didn't wanna teach)
i really hated being made to sit and watch it but i was also older than the target demographic i imagine
This Young Sheldon reveal is incredible. What lore!
I started listening to this in a grocery store… guess what I forgot to get… HONEY!!! HOW DID I FORGET THE HONEY WHILE WATCHING A BEE MOVIE VIDEO!!!!
I’m sure that a) you already knew this or that 2) somebody already said so, but:
worker bees are the females.
It somehow just feels right that this video will be my only exposure to Bee Movie.
Willie Muse dropping a video feels like christmas
30:49 I understand sharpening your stinger, I sharpen my nails everyday just in case I have to use them 🤷🏼♂️
38:53 forget the 7, dude somehow stung HIMSELF
The description of the art movie that's like Interstellar but romantic has been made. It's a short Anime from 2002 called "Voices of a Distant Star." There are no bees in it, as far as I can remember, but it is really good.
I think one of the reasons I enjoy your content so much is because I'm right there with you the overthinking and listening to you ramble means that I can tune out my own overthinking for a little bit to be amused and inspired by the conclusions you come to.
I think I'm one of few people that not only saw Bee Movie when it came out, but unironically loved it ever since. 😅
Haven't watched the video yet but just wanted to say I think this is my favorite thumbnail image of yours so far.
They are all really good and this one is so cute! I love when he makes the thumbnails at the end and the people are scrolling by😊
This does remind me of something I heard before of just like: why do the bees not speak? What do they gain from such a rule?
I haven't seen this movie... Now I don't need to! Thank you Willie!
Commenting for the algorithm, but staying for Willie.... Love ya, Willie!
I love how the background is becoming this eldritch horror looming over Willie. Knitcholas is also cool.
now tell me how i only just, at the ripe age of 22, realised “the bee movie” is a pun…
So glad you were able to get this through copyright review!
