This one is a WINNER! I made this soup last night and my husband raved about it. He isn’t a person who talk details but he was telling me things like, just love the flavor of the cheese, it’s so smooth and so filling. I added small bits of ham in mine because hubby likes it. AND he woke up this morning still talking about the soup. I will definitely be making more of your recipes🥰

I just made this, delicious! Instead of making a separate cheese sauce, I used some Half&Half that I had on hand. After the vegetables were done, I added 2 cups of milk, 1 cup H&H, and the three cups of grated cheese. I heated just until I saw a few bubbles. Mine is a thinner soup, just slightly thickened by the cheese and potatoes.
My mother cooked soup, beans, stew, etc. in a pot just like yours. Just seeing that pot brings back great memories of her and the great meals she created.
This is exactly the way I feel about the POT, my mother had the same pot and it really brings back happy memories. I wish I could find one to buy. Do you know the brand name? She l also had a great old fashioned cook book and my sister and I searched for that book and could not find it either. My mother was a great home cook!
So true. My Mom (and her Sisters / my Aunts) were fabulous home cooks and bakers. This pot reminds me of when Mom made Chicken and Dumplings. I evolved into a pretty good home cook / baker, but there were many things Mom made that I wish I could go back and learn from her. Dumplings for one, and she made a mean Chou pastry for one of her signature appis - Seafood Bouches. We were 7 kids + 2 awesome parents. We miss them every day 💜👩🏻🍳
Me too. My Mamaw Millie made the best potato soup ever. But, whenever we asked her to write down the recipe, she said she never had a recipe. She just added a pinch of this and a pinch of that. I even watched her make it once but she was so fast all I could guarantee was she used potatoes. I'm going to try this soup. Thanks!
My 16 year old granddaughter and I tackled this recipe yesterday. I used a 32oz box of chicken stock and added a sprinkle of bullion for more salt at the end. Everyone loved it, its so dang good! A keeper for sure. Thanks for a great recipe!

Donna this was delicious! I used unbleached flour instead of cornstarch and heavy whipping cream instead of canned cream. I also added chives as garnish.
I'm 76 now, but I learned to use cornstarch as a thickener from my husband, who learned it from his mother, a Czech lady. It's also wonderful in beef stew to thicken it and add a dash of Kitchen Bouquet to give it for that brown rich color . I haven't made this soup yet but I will in 2 days. I observe meatless Fridays and this will be a perfect meal for me from now on. I can almost taste it. Thank you Donna.

Thank you so much! I made this last night, and hubby loved it. I blended 1/3 of the soup with a little hand-held blender before adding the cheese/milk/crema, and the consistency was less chunky. I am thrilled and will save this recipe to use again and again.

This is a wonderful recipe. We just had this meal tonight . I used heavy cream, instead of the crema, because it needed to be used up. Next time I will use the crema. I also added celery for the same reason, it needed to be used up. Thanks for the fabulous recipe!💯

I know this video was made 2 years ago bit I just found the recipe last night and made it for my boyfriend and I, and it was such a hit! I forgot a couple of ingredients including the table cream so I used a mix of flour and warm water as my thickening agent which gave it a grainy texture but still good! I can't wait to make it again with cream! Thank you!

I think most of us have the hammered aluminum pots that were made to last for a lifetime. I have 3 or 4 with the lids that are also used as serving platters. We went to try too replace a lid a year or so back and it was a little more than $300 for the lid alone. Needless to say I didn't replace the top. These pots were made for large families and were used primarily for soup's of any kind, usually vegetables from your own garden, and if there was meat caught for the day around the homestead.
This kind of broccoli soup is exactly the recipe I have been searching for and I thank you. Luckily I have all the ingredients which almost never happens. Lol
Wow... thank you for this recipe, my husband and I were just talking about making this soup, I'm going to write this one down, especially making the cheese sauce first, then adding it to the soup when it is almost done.... we will be adding chicken to ours, and turmeric and ginger instead of the paprika spice. Since I have arthritis, the turmeric, ginger and pepper combination helps with inflammation if anyone is interested. Thank you for the video.... this looks delicious!

Celery seed, garlic are very important in soups even when using a stock. Herbs do a lot as well. Celery seed creates a salivating response and it is very cleansing to the system. The same is true with cilantro. This looks yum.

I like to grate the carrots and add them near the end of cooking. They trick the eye and make you feel like there is way more cheese in the soup. I also add a generous dash of nutmeg to the cheese sauce. It gives the soup a certain something but is not identifiable as nutmeg. This looks delicious - will definitely try it!
No on the nutmeg...not everyone can consume nutmeg...don't sneak stuff like that in recipes. Not mushrooms..not onions....or garlic...always be up front about ingredients.

I can’t find the “Crema can” at my Walmart. What is that similar too? Is it like cream of chicken soup? Sour cream?
Hello Margo...you can substitute heavy cream with a bit of sour cream adding at the end of cooking then turn off heat

I have the same pot and it's my "go to" for (all) things soup. I, too, love to make soup when it's cold outside, and I traditionally make my grandma's "French pea soup" every year in memory of her. She was French born and never learned English, but she told me stories of her noble ancestors, the Charpentier.

Thank you so much! I made this last night, and hubby loved it. I blended 1/3 of the soup with a little hand-held blender before adding the cheese/milk/crema, and the consistency was less chunky. I am thrilled and will save this recipe to use again and again.

This is a wonderful recipe. We just had this meal tonight . I used heavy cream, instead of the crema, because it needed to be used up. Next time I will use the crema.
I also added celery for the same reason, it needed to be used up.

I know this video was made 2 years ago bit I just found the recipe last night and made it for my boyfriend and I, and it was such a hit! I forgot a couple of ingredients including the table cream so I used a mix of flour and warm water as my thickening agent which gave it a grainy texture but still good! I can't wait to make it again with cream! Thank you!

Just dont cook anything acidic in an aluminum pot. Major contributor to Alzheimers is aluminum.
I think most of us have the hammered aluminum pots that were made to last for a lifetime. I have 3 or 4 with the lids that are also used as serving platters. We went to try too replace a lid a year or so back and it was a little more than $300 for the lid alone. Needless to say I didn't replace the top. These pots were made for large families and were used primarily for soup's of any kind, usually vegetables from your own garden, and if there was meat caught for the day around the homestead.
My grandma Burnet had a pot like that she cook beans on it
I too have an oval pot just like her style it belonged to my mama and now I inherited it. Best pot ever n now I'm searching for Ms Donna's too.

Wow... thank you for this recipe, my husband and I were just talking about making this soup, I'm going to write this one down, especially making the cheese sauce first, then adding it to the soup when it is almost done.... we will be adding chicken to ours, and turmeric and ginger instead of the paprika spice. Since I have arthritis, the turmeric, ginger and pepper combination helps with inflammation if anyone is interested. Thank you for the video.... this looks delicious!

Celery seed, garlic are very important in soups even when using a stock. Herbs do a lot as well. Celery seed creates a salivating response and it is very cleansing to the system. The same is true with cilantro. This looks yum.

I like to grate the carrots and add them near the end of cooking. They trick the eye and make you feel like there is way more cheese in the soup. I also add a generous dash of nutmeg to the cheese sauce. It gives the soup a certain something but is not identifiable as nutmeg. This looks delicious - will definitely try it!
