i'd have to go through your vids to let you know as i commented on how much i like it on my main youtube account. suffice to say. i was pretty much drooling over it. @@bigdguitars
Classic carve on a telecaster, man talk about a great guitar. That thing should be in the Museum.Great woods and build.I am impressed buddy.Wish I had a garage to work in ,I'd be doing the same thing.Great guitar D.Can't wait for your next custom build. 👍🎸
Inspiring stuff. I hope to build guitars one day and make something out of it. Your craft is just jaw dropping. Wish I could be an apprentice to the craft.
Man, some of the comments... The cool thing about building “Custom” Guitars, is that you get to make it into whatever you want. There is no Right or Wrong way of doing. Outstanding job brother!! I’ve literally lost count of how many of your videos I’ve watched and haven’t walked away from one yet where I wasn’t blown away and or learned something. Thanks to you for your time and UA-cam for this platform to teach with. I do have a question for ya, I’ve seen you do this carve top as well a Les Paul carve, what are the thicknesses of timber that you start with for the body and the maple top?
Very nice, wish it was a hollow body with 2 modern 'f' holes. Only one thing destroys its aesthetics: the ugly jack. I prefer the look of d original tele's one or put it on the top (the most convenient when u play seated but even standing it s better to handle)
The tone is way too dark for me, as well as too monochromatic as the neck, head, and body are too similar. But if the customers is happy, that's all that matters.
stunning guitar. out of all the ones I've seen built on youtube, that is in my top 10 faves atm. I would dearly love a Nashville telecaster like that. in all honesty. out of all the guitars I've seen built. that's the first one I've really wanted.
Very nice I thought you where using leather dies from the back view of bootlegs I’m leather worker and a custom knife maker don’t even know why watched the whole video but appreciate great work thanks
I absolutely love how that came out. I love that you stained the neck & fretboard and made a matching wood cavity plate for the back..... and of course Stainless Steel Frets!
If that's my guitar, I would ask to use the flame maple cap as "fake" binding rather than using that black binding But overall, it's a killer. Really love that neck
i'd be a big fat liar if I didn't say that's one of the most beautiful Teles I ever saw, and I seen my share, pics and live.. WOW.. really like to see brown tortoise cellulose binding both sides but that's my preference, some good warby parker see through stuff.. man that's nice.. is that a customers? one more detail that's painstaking but if you cupped the perimeter like some les pauls that really top it off.. perhaps if I can talk you into making me one you will add those two details? :-)
Hi , I just found and Subscribed to your channel, and seeing you are so, so close to 50K subs, every sub counts , right? To get you to that awesome milestone! So.. I have a Gibson Les Paul Tribute in satin finish honey burst that I've been wanting to clear coat to give it that nice gloss lacquer look and feel I enjoy so much on my other nitrocellulose guitar (PRS). After watching some of your videos, I see I could do so much more, namely, to do a faux binding like you did in a studio featured on Trogley's. In any case, whether I just do the clear coat or I do both, could you give me any pointers about how I could go about doing that? Do I need to hire someone, or do you think anyone could do it if I took it seriously enough..? And also, how costly might this be? Thanks, and great channel! 😎👍
Those finish colors worked out great and the body & neck looked absolutely stunning. But man, that flame maple you got there is the stuff dreams are made of!... Let me tell you, the unthinkable things I would do to have a garage full of it in 8/4. Another work of art my man!
@@bigdguitars You are much to kind and I can't tell you how much I appreciate the offer. Waiting on the weather to break a bit so I can begin setting up shop in the garage. I will certainly hit you up once I'm equipped to store/stock material. I'm not even equipped yet to begin resawing & processing any material. I've found some figured curly locally (Central Ohio), but it is nowhere near close to what you have there. I will be in touch in the not to distant future for certain. You rock my man.
Can you go over the routing direction you use? There is a lot of debate on that, regarding the chance on tearout, yet it seems like you don't use any special pattern and just go with the standard rules
As beautiful as it may be (and it is !), a SSH, top carved, mahogany guitar is NOT a Tele! You may call this wonderful piece of art like you want, but NOT a Telecaster, the T-model piece -of-wood... Imagine a F1 Ford pickup with airbags and a power steering ? The Holy Inquisition would have torn you apart, a few centuries ago, for doing that...Thumb up anyway, for such an incredible talent.
You're going to cut yourself working that fast (lol)...I love guitars and I love woodworking - so I'm just in awe of the craftsmanship in guitar making. The closest I've ever come to building a guitar was taking a busted up Ibanez body and a Vinci neck that was in several pieces and fixing them up and putting them together. I named the guitar Frankenstein and painted that on the front. A proper guitar maker would probably be aghast and horrified at my work lol..
That is a lot of work to put into a nice carved top. I am simply blown away on how you went about it with the holes and then chiseling the top. Just nuts! That is a beautiful guitar all around and probably one of the best I’ve seen you do tele wise. I like the fact you used true oil on this one. I use either true oil or wipe on poly on kits I build due to ease and I like the look. Kinda more natural in a way. Excellent, excellent work!!
You should see the old school jig Heritage Guitars uses to carve tops. Rather amazing for a old abandoned tool from Gibson at Parsons Street in Kalamazoo
Wow, that was awesome. A whirlwind of possible techniques for achieving this kind of build, and then watching all that flame maple come to life was just exhilarating. Great stuff, beautiful build.
I guess there is something to be said for handmade, but the cnc machine would be coming out immediately if I was going to make any amount of those lol.
Cutting that belly carve on the band saw takes some ballz!
I love going back and watching old videos. Definitely an education
This is a good one
@@bigdguitars honestly they all are. People are missing out if they don't check out your page.
out of all the guitars i've seen built on youtube. you've built two of my favourites. this is the second. a stunning guitar, mate.
What’s the first one you like?

This fretboard is a work of art.
ho my god , it s the most beautiful one you have done , i think !
Wow, stunning! That looked like quite a bit of work and it was well worth it.
God!! It is so beautiful... My favorite part is that neck...

Awesome guitar and workmanship!
Beautiful, nice work
Most beautiful guitar I've ever seen made. Who would ever use leather dye? And ten oil coatings. Very beautiful guitar.
Nice radius machine! Hahaha =D
Gorgeous build. Really gets my GAS going.
Just gorgeous, the neck is outstanding
My only criticism is too many pick ups, little overkill
Beautiful work
Wow,Fantastic!Bye from Italy
wow! leather dye!? that really made that maple top really pop. oh and that neck, that neck! I might just get with you on a build
Outstanding
all the way from malta you good mr
Nice.
Beautiful guitar! Also a nice Coke GMT!
Shhh. I made a mint on that one

Prettiest neck I’ve ever seen on a guitar!!
Amazing
Really fascinating to watch this, thanks for posting it. Glad I subbed recently.
EDIT: Also, that is a beautiful build, love the stain and flame.
Fuckin beautiful man, well done🤘

Thanks for the love! Leather dyes all the way. Makes a huge difference

Hi Derek can you add what products you use to your description many thanks.
I absolutely love how that came out. I love that you stained the neck & fretboard and made a matching wood cavity plate for the back..... and of course Stainless Steel Frets!
I wonder if I could do a carved top on my next build with just some hand tools?
If that's my guitar, I would ask to use the flame maple cap as "fake" binding rather than using that black binding
But overall, it's a killer. Really love that neck
yea thats very true.
After drilling the holes can't you use an angle grinder to speed things up? Rather than a chisel to start with?
yea I could have gone straight to that. but I like to see how it develops.

Belongs on the Cover of Guitar Porn!!! Absolutely Gorgeous!!! If this Vid doesn't go Viral something is horribly wrong with the industry...
love ya thanks buddy
The build looks fantastic, the pickups are dumb looking but that’s not your fault lol, incredible job
Sounds like some instrumental Grateful Dead in the background
Your finishing skills are wonderful. Beautiful guitar.
Love going back and checking out videos I may have missed
Thanks buddy
@@bigdguitars you're welcome
I have a greater admiration for carved top guitars now. that is a TON of work. holy moley
Only thing different I would have done is not used that style switch. Toggles or a rotary, so just round holes.
If I'd blinked I'd have missed the fingerboard radiusing router attachment thing at 11:45; what a cool idea. Would you share a link?
there was a guy making these years ago. he doesn't make them anymore.
not a fan of those single coil pickup surrounds but excellent!
Wow what a beautiful guitar that neck tho is out of this world awesome! Great Video!
the whole guitar is gorgeous but that neck is beautiful!
I second that!😁
Is there anything you can't make, very very impressive sir......,
Hi! What is the top wood?
The finish is beautiful and you sir have some skills! She looks like she wants to sing.
Something with the finish seem wrong maybe the carving is not done right and the light shine weird
awesome

This is a stunning instrument.
If you wanna know why hand made guitars are so expensive.
How much?
It is really a hungarian song during the first half video?🙂
Amazing build bro! I love that neck!!
Lots of work for a tele to sound like a lp...beautiful guitar
Awesome looking guitar 👍👍😊
It looks like a strat without a top horn. Why this must be a tele?
Can you go over the routing direction you use? There is a lot of debate on that, regarding the chance on tearout, yet it seems like you don't use any special pattern and just go with the standard rules
what do you mean? routing how? always push into the bit. you don't want the item to rip out of your hands.

Nice method on the drilled start to contours, might have to try that on a future build instead of router steps!
Do you do relic? I have a fender 50s classic I’ll liked aged
I do!

Cool video! Dig sending the guitar through the sander at that angle and your truss rod routing jig. Heck the radius jig for the router was cool too!
beautiful job....custom quality!
The guitar with all the holes in it weirdly grossed me out....glad you carved it quick in the video.

Your skills are amazing but for me it turned straight ugly lol. Awesome work nonetheless!
Usually carved top teles don’t have the angled heel like you did here. Kudos for that.
That neck is the prettiest thing ever
Wow. That is super nice. I think you're gonna be busy doing these for awhile.
Beautiful! Do you ever work with wood binding? Just wondering.
Chitarra bellissima 👍 musica insopportabile 😵
Wow!! Very interesting build with an amazing result!! Beautiful guitar!! 🙏🎼👍👍
How many hours does it take to complete this build ? What does a guitar like this cost ?
Cant be done without the Harbor Freight orange mallet.
no that mallet is amazing. one of my most used tools these days.
Gorgeous instrument. I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful neck.
