    Crafty Patti, thank you so much for this fabulous tutorial. I am an intermediate knitter. I have knit socks on DPN's, but was inexplicably afraid of knitting a hat in the round. I appreciate how clear your written pattern is and how clear, calm and friendly your video is. It was like having a friend showing me how to do it. I finished my first hat knit in the round today. My hubby loves it and it fits him perfectly. My only issue was at the very end where I only had 16 stitches on my needles. I finally "got it," but not without some frogging and drama. Thank you again!

    Thank you so much for a hat pattern that actually works for size, directions and simplicity. It looks nice and is so warm. Even the decrease section, when turned inside out works out all the way to the top without a flaw. So one has a choice of which side to use. It has worked out everytime I've knit it. Time to check out some more of your videos 😊

    Oh, God bless you... This is EXACTLY what I needed. I am making a brioche knit scarf for a friend and she is asking for a matching hat, I will make her one. I was looking for a simple hat with a circular needle, and found a pattern elsewhere, but realized it also called for Double pointed needles to shape the top. Wasn't quite ready for that, and then voila, here you are! I just bought those exact same needles the other day, with the same size. I will be using 2 strands held together of worsted weight yarn though, I think this should work, right? Very good job on the tutorial, perfect for beginners at hat making, like me!

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 роки тому +1

      So glad you found me and you found a video that you needed. Double strands will make the hat more cozy but it might make it slighter larger. You might need to cast on a few less stitches.

    As I strolled through UA-cam looking for a crochet hat pattern video, I saw the picture of this hat. Without reading the title that tells me plainly this is a knit hat tutorial, I clicked on the video. I have wanted to learn to knit but have never had the time to really take it seriously and learn. After watching this video, I believe I could learn to knit. Your patient voice and the explanations you give is how I will learn. I thank you for sharing your creativity, talent and patience and this video. I am going to get the needles and some yarn and make this hat. It looks warm and very beautiful.

    I love this explanation of knitting in the round.It’s very well understood and I can follow the directions very easily.I just have trouble at the last few rounds,My yarn is stretched to the limit and I can’t switch to a smaller cable.What can I do please let me know.❤I’m knitting with a 16 inch tip to tip cable,is this to big?? Thank you very much.Love the tutorial.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  8 місяців тому

      Not to worry. Find the middle of your knitting and grab onto the wire or cable and pull it beyond the stitches on both sides so there is just cable sticking out with no stitches on it and the stitches are scooted up both sides of the needles. This will make it easier to finish your last stitches. As you work around the round you might have to pull the cord out a different spot for ease of knitting. I hope that made sense.

    Just found your instructions for the hat. Very informative. Quick question. Instead of using a bobby pin when you began your decreasing, could I use a stitch marker at the beginning of the hat, at the first row to help me know when I am beginning a new row? I feel like that might be easier for me. Placing a stitch marker right after joining in the round or right before you start joining in the round. Does that work? Thanks.

      You can use any yarn that you can find in England. But just do a sample gauge as below.
      Cast on about 20 stitches and knit about 8 rows.
      Look and see how many stitches you knit in your inch(2.5cm)
      Average size adult head is about 21-24”(53.3-61cm)
      Your finished hat should be about 14”(36cm) in circumference when it is flat on a table and about 24”(61cm) when stretched out.
      So if you have knit 6 stitches to your 1”(2.5cm) then you can figure out how many stitches to cast on to get the right size. As I mentioned above your finished hat should be about 14”(36cm). So 14”x 6 stitches= 84 stitches to cast on.
      Just make sure your final number is a multiple of 4. Add or minus a cast on stitch to make it work.
      Hope that makes sense.

    How did you manage to decrease stitches as they tighter on the circular needle that you were using for this pattern

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 роки тому

      Just keep pushing the stitches around the cord so they up on the left needle. Or you can also have half of the stitches close to one needle and the other half stitches close to the other needle and the middle of the cord will just be empty with no stitches.

    Thank you so much Patti for this pattern, Patti! I made one with size 11 needles and bulky 6 yarn. I used 60 stitches and then followed the rest and it came out great, but a tad on the bigger side. Now I have yarn that's a 5, but still waiting for my size 10 needles. How should I adjust the number of stitches for the size 11, number 5 yarn? Should I use the 60 or 64 for adult?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      If you want your hat to always fit than it is best to knit a little sample to test your gauge. Cast on about 16 stitches and knit about 8 rows. Measure how many stitches you knit per inch.
      Example:
      Let’s say you knit 6 stitches per inch and you want your hat to be 14” in total circumference when laying flat.
      Then just multiply 6x14 which equals 84. So you will cast on 84 stitches.
      If you knit 4 stitches per inch and you want your hat to be 14” in total circumference. 4x14=56. So 56 stitches to cast on.

      It’s the stitches that give it stretch. Yes you can use a chunky yarn.
      I have another video that I added a chart which might help you to determine how many stitches to cast on. With a bulkier yarn it will make your hat larger.

    this is great! would I be able to do this with thinner yarn? what would I have to change if I did?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      Yes you can use thinner yarn but a few things to work out. Look on the yarn label to see what size needles are recommended.
      You will also have to work out how many stitches to cast on. You should knit a little sample to test your gauge. Cast on about 14 stitches and knit about 6 rows. count how many stitches you knit in 1 inch. You will want your hat to be about 14” all the way around. It will be larger when it stretches on your head.
      Example: If you knit 8 stitches per inch than times the 8 stitches by the 14” you need for your hat. So 14x8=112 stitches to cast on.
      You will have to modify the decrease rows for the top of the hat.
      Hope that makes sense.
      Enjoy knitting your hat
      Patti

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts

      Try this.
      Decrease Round 1: *K2 tog., P2* Repeat to end of round.
      Round 2 *K1, P2* repeat to end of round
      Repeat these two rows until you have 48 stitches then continue with the rest of my decrease instructions to finish the top of hat.

  • @brendasharp1544

    How do you know what length needles to use?.as I'm decreasing I'm struggling to get the stitches round to finish off!

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 роки тому

      If you have a lot of excess cord between your needles than that can make it more difficult when starting the decrease rows. Find the middle of your stitches and push half of the stitches to one needle and force the other stitches around the cord so they are on the other needle. So you will have a loop of cord with no stitches in the middle. Hope that makes sense.
