omg I was just going to comment this!!! A lady at my work who bakes gave me a banana muffin recipe that also said sour cream and I was like wtf?? but man, they were so moist and delicious!!!
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. I’m flabbergasted 🥹 i literally made a box cake a few weeks ago and did all these steps as an experiment to see if the cake would come out differently. Only to see JONNYCAKES saying it makes it taste homemade. Shamelessly proud of myself rn 😭
@@Contemplatingspider I made them for my brother's birthday party (cuz I didn't have enough time to make them from scratch) and everyone thought they were homemade!
Ahh I wish you would of shown the cross section of the cake up close. I just made a strawberry box cake and did literally all of those things and still didn’t think it was moist enough. I did cook it at 350 not 325, but I had not found this video till days later, unfortunately. Going to try 325 instead tomorrow!
Some people add a pudding mix (usually vanilla) to the batter and that's supposed to help it be more moist. It might be worth a try if you're still having this problem!
Your comment is from a month ago, but in case this is useful: you absolutely can, but the effect won't be exactly the same. Yogurt tends to make baked goods fluffier. Sour cream is fattier, though, so if you use yogurt, your cake won't be as rich as it would be with sour cream. I hope this helps!
@@thefinalflowerhello, is there a substitute for sour cream? Is sour cream making the cake more moist? Because, I plan to use these ingredients, but want to avoid sour cream .. Thank you. If you do respond.
@@CrazyBunniePanda hi there! Yogurt is definitely the most common substitute. There may be others; yogurt is just what I grew up with, so I know it's a nice addition The sour cream is helping the cake be extra moist, yes. It's also making it fluffier. You can definitely omit the sour cream. Just remember that the other changes will make the cake denser. I hope this helps!
I wonder if the sour cream can be substituted with Fage Greek yogurt. Asking for a friend that has Greek yogurt but doesn’t want to drive to the store 🫣
Af this point I’m contemplating if I’m made of cake or not.
@Pastel Boba thank you for the compliment
You seem nice and mellow sweet, so I would say yes, you are made of cake. But driving must be difficult, with getting frosting all over everything.
@@thunderquillradio help I crumbled into bits now my dogs are eating me
@@Jeetis if u are a chocolate cake, try to get away immediately as that will end up killing ur dog
My mom gave me her banana bread recipe which said sour cream and I was grossed out but when I made it without vs made it with, it was a game changer!

@@ThatWeirdSlimeGirl Did you also bake your cake @ 325° instead of 350°? I know the type of pan used is a big factor.
Hay Johnny I’m watching your “is it cake” episode you were in lolll!
What if you don't have sour cream? What is another substitute or can i go ahead without it?
