@@felipejara2234 I've dug a little deeper into this on the reddit/r/dio subreddit (I'm u/redqueen2 there). It might be a dialogue between the inner child and the shadow self. Notice how he sings with a high, childlike voice in the beginning, sounding like an insecure, anxious child, and then switches to the darker, more aggressive voice once the "hey, you..." part begins. Like another inner voice (the shadow) is addressing the child suddenly. The child is afraid of strangers, then the shadow comes in and tells the child that *he* is the stranger. In the third part it's the child talking again and it is afraid of the shadow now ("don't dance in darkness..."). In the liner notes to the Stand Up and Shout compilation he says that coming out of Sabbath he felt angry and hurt and threatened by everyone who wasn't family or close friend. It's incredible that it has taken decades and numerous discussions including one with a professor of English literature to finally put this together. I very much doubt I'm reading too much into it; it looks so obvious and deliberate, especially with the voice changes. This song is a real masterpiece.

I went to a Dio concert in 1984 and didn't know much about him at the time. The first time I ever heard this song was live about 20 rows back. His voice... my goodness... it was perfect. And he could in real life go from that sweet intro to his full bellow in a second.
Jamel, everything you just said about your appreciation for music is why you're simply the best at what you do! Dio's first three albums consisted of : Vivian Campbell on guitars, who later went on to play for Whitesnake and Def Leopard. Jimmy Bain on bass guitar, who played with Dio in the band Rainbow. Vinnie Appice on drums, who played with Dio in Black Sabbath/ Heaven and Hell. This was the quintessential lineup for Dio's band.
Ronnie Dio was a true lyricist... so many of his songs have deep meanings or hidden messages... one of my all time favorites is "All The Fools Sailed Away"... there's perfect harmony in the rising and the falling of the sea... and as we drift along I never fail to be astounded by the things we'll do for promises... and a song
the band was RJ dio on vocals & keys, Vivian Campbell (now in def leppard) on guitar, Jimmy Bain (who played on "stargazer" with Ronnie) and Vinny Appice (who played with Ronnie on Black Sabbath) on drums.
Keep on jammin' Jamel! Love your reactions to a very diversified playlist. You are as entertaining as the songs themselves. Keep up the good work keeping music alive! Rock on brothah!

Back in the days of long hair, jeans, leather high tops laced halfway up and the tongue sticking out from the bottom of the jeans, concert t-shirts, a single dangling cross earring in the left ear, and a denim or leather jacket. That's what me and my Metal Head friends wore when partying.
Welcome my brother, to one of the best metal albums of the 80s, bar none. Every time I listen to this song, it just crushes me. And there are other songs on this album that are just as good as this, if not better. This is a song that makes me think of an overprotective mother trying to protect her child from EVERYTHING. Not just stuff that can put you in danger, but EVERYTHING. Vinny Appice and Vivian Campbell made the perfect foil to Dio's stellar singing.
Wow, hadn't heard this masterpiece in years....loving it! Thanks Jamel. Great reaction. Gotta keep on looking into the catalog....so many great songs going all the way back to his days in ELF....
One of my favorite hard rock albums of all time! Ronnie James Dio was an awesome singer and writer. The drummer was Vinnie Appice, little brother of Carmine from Rod Stewart's band.
Hey, Jamel you're on to something with this praise to lyrical aspect in music; many only join in with the chorus and bob their heads with harmonies, rhythms of the song. Real poetic messages hide in the use of words in a phrase or in lyric verses.
Jamel, I can always count on you to respond to ALL the great parts of a song, and not just the stuff in the foreground. The first two Dio albums weren't a great singer and a band, they were a great BAND. So glad I got to see them live back in '84.

My interpretation of a couple of the lyrics are "Don't smell the flowers" may be about Opiates and "Don't Write in Starlight" may be about dabbling in the Occult. Just my thoughts, not saying that's what Ronnie was thinking.
Loving the Dio. Dio fronted bands like Rainbow, Sabbath, and Elf. Check out Black Sabbath's - The Mob Rules

You gonna make my contacts keep floating??? I wanna go back!!!! Mid 80's were so awesome care free..... And the music kicked ass!!! No im not stuck there but wow. Ouch, the memories. Imagine listening to this as you fell asleep with headphones on at 15 in '85.....
I was there 🎧🤘😎
"Don't dream of women, 'cause they'll only bring you down"
How many divorces, alimony payments and x wives will it take some guys to learn that?
I can say I'm an ex wife who never sought alimony against my lawyers advice. I told him I wasn't having my ex going around telling people he kept me up. Also, he only paid $200/month in child support at my request as well. When our children reached 18, my ex thanked me.
@@roxannemoser Well, sometimes you win in Vegas, but most of the times you lose.... :)
@@roxannemoser the one line by Dio that I don't like

In Australia a woman can get 75 percent and keep the kids, many men commit suicide. I am in a men's group in Australia, were we try to support guy's going through this. Sadly many can't take it, I know I was almost there myself. Many women use this to it's full extent to crush their ex husband.
Thank you for being decent.
@@beoz658 Well, it's actually a satire, the narrator is a holier than thou preaching.
Thanks for playing this and much respect to you for giving the music I grew up on a shot...thank you!
Vivian Campbell on lead guitar

Vinnie Appice is the drummer.
I saw Ronnie James live in concert three times. All incredible concerts. Great guy. One of the greatest voices in rock ever. Drums and guitar on this track - wow 🤘 Fond memories. RIP RJD.
"INVISIBLE", "STRAIGHT THROUGH THE HEART", "WHEN A WOMAN CRIES", "SUNSET SUPERMAN"..... and of coarse "ALL THE FOOLS SAILED AWAY".
Vivian Campbell on Guitar AWESOME 😮
Haha I thought it was the Rick Springfield version ... which isn’t bad btw ☺️
Drummer is none other than THE GREAT Vinnie Appice.
Dio - The High Elf of Rock
I saw Dio in the 80's at the RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, NY. Tremendous concert! Keep music alive brother!
Rainbow in the Dark is another big hit.
Yup.
I remember rocking to this back in the '80s as a teenager. Classic. Glad you got to experience it.. .
You looked exhausted after listening to that, Hahahaha!
Check out Invisible, Shame on the Night by DIO
DIO with Black Sabbath: The Mob Rules, Sign of the Southern Cross, "I".
DIO was still touring when he was 67 I believe ,with the band "Heaven and Hell! React to some videos of the Heaven and He'll band live as well brother. I saw DIO live with the DIO band and with Heaven and He'll when he was 65. The man sounded as good as he EVER did even at that age!!!!
"Don't dream of women; because they'll only bring you
Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooown"
LOL
Truth
One I haven’t seen anyone mention is Country Girl from Black Sabbath Mob Rules. A great Dio track.
We rock next please
Yes!
also Stand Up And Shout!
I'm so glad you've come to appreciate this great music Jamal. I was the same way when I was younger I couldn't get into funk and bands like Parliament, but when I got a little little older and more open minded I sat back and listened and I started to appreciate the musicianship and the beat.
You're finally going a little bit more hard metal let's try Judas priest beyond the realms of death I've asked you about 20 times In last 3 years
Dreamer Deciever/Deciever
Always fun when Jamel takes us back ......
THANK YOU !
What no love for the Mob Rules, you are all fools.
COUNTRY GIRL 🤘
I went to a Dio concert in 1984 and didn't know much about him at the time. The first time I ever heard this song was live about 20 rows back. His voice... my goodness... it was perfect. And he could in real life go from that sweet intro to his full bellow in a second.
The guitar player is Vivien campbell and he is Awesome!!!
Thanks Jamal. Yeah it's deep. Thank you for keeping great music alive
Great song from a great album. Check out “Shame on the Night” next or “Hide in the Rainbow “
I just want to say I love seeing you get impacted by these amazing songs....you're too cool man...I never stop watching a review by you because I like to hear what you say.....Peace to you, and thank you!✌
I love your reaction and your analogy between rap and metal You're absolutely 100% right
Back in the days of long hair, jeans, leather high tops laced halfway up and the tongue sticking out from the bottom of the jeans, concert t-shirts, a single dangling cross earring in the left ear, and a denim or leather jacket. That's what me and my Metal Head friends wore when partying.
OMG yes!
I'm pretty sure the drummer was Vinny Appice, guitarist was Vivian Cambell. He later joined Def Leppard when Steve Clark died. Bass was Cozy Powell.
Cozy Powell was the drummer for Rainbow and Black Sabbath on dehumanizer. Jimmy Bain is on bass
Wow, hadn't heard this masterpiece in years....loving it! Thanks Jamel. Great reaction. Gotta keep on looking into the catalog....so many great songs going all the way back to his days in ELF....
I like a variety of music. Thanks Jamel for reacting to many varieties of music.
Great album! Every single song on this album is incredible.
Dio was a small guy only 5'4...
But man.. he belted out them lyrics like he was ten foot tall!
Love this reaction!!! This song is so, so good. thank you as always for the feel good memeories.
One of the best concerts I've ever seen was Dio Sacred Heart tour. Please do Sacred Heart live from that tour and you will see why.
Some great Dio tunes: Holy Diver, Shame On The Night, All The Fools Sailed Away, Egypt.
Jamel, I can always count on you to respond to ALL the great parts of a song, and not just the stuff in the foreground. The first two Dio albums weren't a great singer and a band, they were a great BAND. So glad I got to see them live back in '84.
I truly love your reactions and your interpretation. Golden
