    How is it that myself, raised by two atheist parents and being an alcoholic, living on the streets for years started to pray one morning and was literally struck sober. A peace that "is" beyond all understanding fell upon me that literally felt like...I can't explain it, and remained for 3 day's, all i could do was sit, and be still, i was bathed in it, and never had the compulsion to drink again...pure grace, i don't care what anyone say's...i know what i know through direct experience, and that "is" truth

    Calvin did not do away with free will. He holds that humans are free to do as they choose while God is still sovereign over all. It's seemingly contradictory, but Scripture affirms both, and so does Calvin. A simple reading of his section on Providence in his Institutes will clear this up for you. He does NOT eliminate a human's ability to make choices.

    • @procinctu1
      @procinctu1 8 років тому +10

      Razvan Stoian only the actions completely don't MATTER! A damned human being, created by God that way, who lives a good and holy life is damned. And an elect just WON'T mess up because God programmed him to be good. That is a farce of a doctrine.

    • @jonathankotyk3075
      @jonathankotyk3075 8 років тому +13

      You're right it is, that is why Calvinists do not believe that. Everyone is a sinner without exception. And the only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ, it has nothing to do with personal works.

    • @procinctu1
      @procinctu1 8 років тому +14

      +Jonathan Kotyk And, that is a sad and hopeless way to preach "salvation." Why would Jesus offer, "The words of eternal life" to those he CREATED to be DAMNED! I am passionate about this because it is offensive to me. Every human is called to Christ, period. An "elect" is a human devise to separate followers from their Brothers and Sisters in Christ. The "Good News" can save everyone; why is that debatable?

    • @jonathankotyk3075
      @jonathankotyk3075 8 років тому +7

      That Guy The sacrifice Jesus made is capable of saving everyone, but it will ONLY save those who are called to repentance. No one comes to Jesus unless it is the will of the Father. The scripture is clear, God chooses some and not others, why this is is unknown and it is a hard thing for some, to acknowledge that God is sovereign over all creation, but His word says we are all sinners and that no one searches for God, not one. S He must come find us.
      Faith is a gift from God, it does not come from us.
      Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
      Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion,[b] but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
      19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory
      Ephesians 1:11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

      frank dunleavy Oh and also, ALL actions are predetermined, regardless if they are made by man or God, just God simply "existing" means that every action is going to come about at exactly the moment they come about "without possibility of deviation" because God sees all actions, past, present and future, all at once. Both views are fatalistic, only difference is once view is a man centered fate, and the other is a God centered fate.

      Again, as with your other question, I don't ask God why He created some for salvation and some for destruction. As a side note, your logically fallacious appeals to emotion to try to discredit the clear teachings of scripture are futile.
      The scriptures are clear that God is the potter and we are the clay, and some are made for "honorable use" and some for "common use" (Romans 9:20-22). God is the one who decides who is to be saved and who is to be damned.
      In the end, we will all be judged by our works (Revelation 20:11-14). If we do not have the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed to us, we will be cast to hell. If we have faith in Him, His righteousness is imputed to us, His righteous deeds become our righteous deeds, and our sins become His sins, and we attain heaven. That's it.
      I don't ask God why some go to hell and some don't. He is in charge. We are like grasshoppers compared to the awesome might and glory of God (Isaiah 40:22).

    No one here criticizing Calvin really understands Reformed theology. They criticize what they think Calvinism is without really understanding it and it's basis in the bible. You'll notice that people who typically abhor Calvinism usually (not always) refrain from using scripture to bolster their arguments, but instead use appeals to emotion and straw-man arguments (logical fallacies). They start with man and work their way up to God, instead of reading the scriptures and starting with God and how He deals with mankind and our rebellious nature.
    All mankind are sinners (Romans 3:9-12, 3:23) and cannot please God (Romans 8:7-8). Those who have not been saved are in sin and are sinful by nature; in fact, they love sin so much that they are *completely dead in sin* (Ephesians 2:1). It is completely *fair* and *just* for God to destroy all of us for our own sins (Rom. 2:6-9).
    However, those who are saved no longer live according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit (Romans 8:4). Only God can raise people from spiritual death to spiritual life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:18). Remember, *we cannot please God* until God raises us to spiritual life (Romans 8:7-8). It is God who chooses to bring to life, not us. How can we, puny humans, complain against the Lord of the Universe, who He chooses to save? (Rom. 9:15, 21). No man can come unto Christ except the Father draws us, and it is they who the Father chooses who will believe in Christ and will be lifted up at the last day (John 6:37-40).
    Read John 6:37-39, 10:27-29, Romans (especially chapters 3 - 9), Galatians, and Ephesians. There's Calvinist theology all throughout these books.
    It's only the natural man who says "but the Calvinist God is evil!" without actually reading these passages and believing them. Until you believe that man is naturally **dead in sin** because of the fall and *only God* can bring them to life, you won't understand Calvinism and you'll continue to make straw mans and use manmade philosophies to support your own morality as opposed to God's.
    *Nowhere* does it say in the Bible that man's free will is *more powerful than God's*. That's the whole point of Romans chapters 8-9.
    God bless and good luck to everyone. Hope these passages help.

      The clay can be a vase. A bowl, picture for water or a pot. Did God give hands to rebell against him? The clay is what the potter makes. God has not made that rebellious clay. Rebels are who become rebellious. So was that the purpose for which God made man? Does a father make a son for his son to rebell? Jesus Xhrist may have taught rebellion '(Mather 10 he came not to bring peace but a sword. To turn son against father and daughter against mother)' but he was nailed to a cross.
      The clay may be fired.

      katelyn ramirez , by your expression I guess you must be a Calvinist. Do me a favour to comment according to your calvinism theory for the following verses of the bible;
      (Rom 4:5) But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
      Before you start I want to state some of the calvinist's principle that is only the elect can be saved as Christ only died for their sins (limited atonement). Now on rom4:5b ".....that justified the ungodly.....". by applying calvinism theory the ungodly must be the elect as only the elect can be saved then what about the non-elect? the non-elect must be classified as the godly because there are only two classes of believers. It is explicitly clear that your doctrine of calvinism is flawed by the above comparison.
      Another verse for your comments; . (Luk 19:10) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
      Luk19:10b; " come to seek and to save which was lost" according to your theory on salvation only the elect can be saved. Thus the lost must be only the elect. So the non-elect is not lost. How ludicrous it sounds, isn't it?
      Appreciate your comments please.thank you.

      katelyn ramirez, don't be deceived by the teaching of calvin as it is not biblical. for example , on pedestination calvinism says "God predestinated some to be saved and other to be destroyed".
      Please refer to these only 4 verses in the whole bible about God's predestination and to verify Calvin's doctrine on predestinaton;
      (Eph 1:5) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
      (Eph 1:11) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
      (Rom 8:29) For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
      (Rom 8:30) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
      Please read the above the only 4 verses on God's predestination found in the bible and compare it with the teaching of Calvinism on predestination. Does any of the verses says "God predestined some to be saved and other to be destroyed"? .
      You still don't believe me and here are the facts: Calvin most definitely did believe in double predestination. This is what he wrote and taught:
      "The predestination by which God adopts some to the hope of life, and adjudges others to eternal death, no man who would be thought pious ventures simply to deny….By predestination we mean the eternal decree of God, by which he determined with himself whatever he wished to happen with regard to every man. All are not created on equal terms, but some are preordained to eternal life, others to eternal damnation; and, accordingly, as each has been created for one or other of these ends, we say that he has been predestinated to life or to death". (This is a copy from Calvin Institutes of the Christian Religion Chapter 3.21.5).
      Do read for yourself what Calvin really taught and you decides for yourself and don't simply listened to their sweet talks as I have proved it to you biblically. Your comments please. Thanks

    CHAPTER IX.
    Of Free Will.
    I. God hath endued the will of man with that natural liberty, that is neither forced, nor by any absolute necessity of nature determined to good or evil.
    II. Man, in his state of innocency, had freedom and power to will and to do that which is good and well-pleasing to God; but yet mutably, so that he might fall from it.
    III. Man, by his fall into a state of sin, hath wholly lost all ability of will to any spiritual good accompanying salvation; so as a natural man, being altogether averse from that good, and dead in sin, is not able, by his own strength, to convert himself, or to prepare himself thereunto.
    IV. When God converts a sinner and translates him into the state of grace, he freeth him from his natural bondage under sin, and, by his grace alone, enables him freely to will and to do that which is spiritually good; yet so as that, by reason of his remaining corruption, he doth not perfectly, nor only, will that which is good, but doth also will that which is evil.
    V. The will of man is made perfectly and immutable free to good alone, in the state of glory only.

      Well, since you are asking a loaded question, all I have to say is that I do not desire anyone to suffer eternal hellfire. But Jesus declared that those who do not believe Him would suffer such torment. What I "feel" about the issue is inconsequential. It's like asking "how does it make you feel that 2+2=4?" Feelings have nothing to do with it. Truth is truth.
      The gospel makes no difference about how I "feel". God declares truth and we must accept it. We must accept God's decree and trust in Him. According to our incredibly limited human minds, some things may seem atrocious. But I trust in the completely holy, loving, good God that He knows what He is doing with His creation. It isn't up to us, as His creations, to shake our fist at God and demand He do anything (Romans 9:20-21). He is the potter and we are the clay; He can do whatever He would like with His creation as He sees fit (Ephesians 1).

      No, what you *feel* about the issue shows me your ethics, how you follow Jesus's 2nd great commandment.
      Jesus told you to love and forgive even your enemies, and it turns out that you do -- you "do not desire anyone to suffer eternal hellfire."
      Given that, you (and I) are *far more loving than Jesus,* Who not merely *hates* them *unforgivingly* enough to punish them in hell forever, but *hated* them so much even before they existed that He *made* them for that horrible purpose.
      Thus, you and I are more loving and forgiving and thus "Christlike" than Christ, which is passing strange!

    I will never lay the blame for men rejecting God on God himself. Name one that God does not desire to see in his kingdom. You cannot, because he desires us all. We do in fact have a responsibility toward God. And a man with a responsibility is a man who is able to respond. If we are able to respond to the Gospel, then we are accountable.

    • @laurasmith6405
      @laurasmith6405 8 років тому

      Correct- he is God! And because he is God I believe He is big enough to allow us our free will to respond to the calling or o reject Him - I can not believe that He bothered to create a world full of pre-programmed robots. Why would He allow Jesus to suffer the cross if He had already decided who would come and who would not? Why is the bible full of warnings against being deceived - if it isn't a possibility because we are predestined?

    • @laurasmith6405
      @laurasmith6405 8 років тому

      I agree that All things work together wor together for the good of His people- where I have a problem with this line of teaching is in the belief that He has hand picked who shall be saved- I believe the passage referring to predestination refers to the fact that He is God and therefore He knows who will and will not accept His open invitation to ALL mankind rather than the idea that He has before hand chosen some to be saved and some to be damned. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance.

    • @laurasmith6405
      @laurasmith6405 8 років тому

      So you are a believer in predestination in the sense that there are people here on earth that are just damned due to no fault of their own. That is to say, that these people can not be saved by hearing the call, because God has excluded them? Now, these people are also not included when in John 3:16 For God so loved the WORLD that he gave His only begotten Son, that WHOsoever believes on Him shall have everlasting life.... You do not believe that scripture to mean that any and all people have the open invitation to believe on God and His gift of salvation through Jesus? This is what I do not understand. I believe God knows all, sees all, is above all, is the only God - and He is all wise etc. Yet, He is loving, longsuffering, kind, forgiving and He meant what He said- He will forgive anyone that believes and repents. The idea that he is God and therefore already knows who those people that will "choose" to accept or deny Him - makes sense to me. That they can NOT choose and are preprogrammed to either serve Him or deny Him is a concept I can not accept. This is where I can not agree with this line of thinking. But I know others that do, and I call them my brother and sisters. However I just do not agree with this doctrine. It doesn't mean I question anyones love for God or relationship with Him.

    • @laurasmith6405
      @laurasmith6405 8 років тому

      yes you see- you just said they are condemned already- and yet it did not mean the whole world. If it didnt include them- then they had no chance or choice to repent- that is what you are saying? but you don't want to be pinned down to saying it. And on this I vehemently disagree. Yes man is nasty, ugly, sin filled, prideful etc etc and trust me I can grasp it. I have been saved for 38 yrs and I have at least a very general understanding of the gospel and its message but where you and I differ is that I believe that He sent His son to extend His love and forgiveness to ANY and all that will come. And while I understand that he calls us and draws us and that it is not by works, nor by own deeds- but it is the gift of God- I believe it is a gift He offers to ALL mankind.

    • @laurasmith6405
      @laurasmith6405 8 років тому

      As I said - You believe that the unbelievers are predestined to not believe- I believe it is a choice they make- to shun Him and His gift of Salvation- and that those of us that do hear the call and repent are saved by His grace but we chose to follow Him. Yes He chose us as He chose Israel- but just as Israel has many that have rejected Him- so do we have the choice. Choose ye this day Whom you shall serve.

    I can see how it could be effective, and hated. The total power of God has to take a back seat to the ego of man in many circles. Once it is understood that God operates on levels beyond our comprehension, it is easy to see how our limited thinking produces the emotional "not fair" feelings.

      Calvinism is a self-defeating, incoherent, slippery doctrine that has privily made its way into the church. Its proponents are men of renown (at least in Christendom) who are revered as being champions and heralds of truth when, in reality, they are nothing more than closet devil worshipers. They are peddling a poisonous doctrine that is almost as subtle as the devil himself, and they take pride in their administration of this poison to the sheep. I am astonished at how almost every well-known and respected “Pastor,” especially on social media, is a Calvinist. You wouldn’t know this by taking a cursory look at their sermons\talks, because a lot of times they use carefully crafted rhetoric to disguise their position. In fact, it almost seems as though these men intentionally hide their Calvinistic inclinations until after they’ve lured you in with bits of the truth, and then they beguile you with their obtuse wordsmithing. Even so, it doesn’t take a trained eye to easily spot where their Calvinistic doctrine bleeds through to their messages.

      +jerome96114 Actually, calvinists say that God just leaves the sinners to "suffer the consequences of their own acts". So basically, everyone is a sinner, but God choose a select few to be "the elect" while condemning others for:
      1 - Being sinners.
      2 - Not listening to the gospel, even though they couldn't obey the gospel because only the elect can do it.
      So yeah, it's still kinda stupid but a little less stupid.

    • @fynix.
      @fynix. Місяць тому

      Well the idea of being "just" or "unjust" has to originate from God. We wouldn't be able to judge God as good or evil or just/unjust because in order to properly judge someone there has to be something (like the law) that's above them. Imagine if you judged someone today as a criminal for doing something that was in some other country illegal 400 years ago. To say God is unjust is to elevate your own judgement above the infinite creator.

    Wow! That was the poorest presentation of Calvinism i have ever heard. Before God chooses anyone they are not free either. We are all tainted by our sinful nature. That sinful nature would Never turn to God. Our Wills are slanted against God. Without God intervening no one would turn to Him. Those that turn to God do so only after God has made it possible for them to do so . After God does a work in us, then, for the first time, we are free to choose Him, and do so freely. In that way it can be said that we chose God and that He chose us. Of course He chose us first and then we choose Him after our sinful nature is bypassed enough for us to then come to our senses. Is is fair that God should choose some and not others? It is not fair but not in the way you may think. Fairness would dictate that ALL be lost and none saved. That would be fair and just! But God out of His mercy saves some, which is His prerogative and right! Who can argue with God? Mr. Richey, I disagree with your characterization of Calvinism. It would have been intellectually honest to present Calvin respectfully and honestly, then you could have given the reasons for your disagreement. But your presentation was not true Calvinism. And it shows that you do not really understand Calvinism. I am ok with someone disagree with Calvinism, but you built up a straw man and then took it down. Lord knows there is enough to argue about when dealing with Calvinism without resorting to what you did. Still all the best to you and God Bless.

      Joshua came to save sinners, not saints. Wealthy churchgoers condemn because their father is the devil; and he is the accuser of the brotherhood. The churches preach nothing but lies, trying to put the true Believers under the Law, if that were possible.
      The GOOD NEWS OF GRACE is irresistible. I, too, had no interest in God; but one day a person preached to me. I called her every curse word in the book; however, one week later God revealed himself to me in my living room. I did not see him; but he spoke to me, I could hear his voice. I got saved on the spot, just him and me.
      Once a person is saved, there is nothing they can do to screw it up. Contrary to what false christian RELIGIONS preach, our salvation is not based on behavior or works. Christians teach that whether we are saved or not depends on our day to day behavior. That is a lie from the devil. Not surprising, they are never sure about their salvation. The Bible states "Nothing can separate us from the love of God." Christian people, being followers of the devil, get really upset when you say things like that.
      The truth is that anyone who has not had a personal experience with God has not been chosen. Such people are always searching for proof of their salvation; but they never find it. The Bible says "they were weighed in the balance, and found wanting."

    It’s absurd and utterly unhelpful to start the discussion without a biblical theological framework. In other words, you start the discussion by presenting the “God decides who goes to hell” proposition right at the start instead of giving us the biblical comfext, which is this: Adam rebelled against God in the garden, and instead of immediately executing judgment against Adam, God showed Adam mercy by allowing him and his line to continue on. Nothing makes sense without that context.

    Why you should care about Calvinism.
    It’s doctrines are not Biblical
    1)Calvinism = Men are unable to choose God *** Christianity = “Choose you this day whom ye will serve” Joshua 24:15
    2) Calvinism = Salvation by lottery *** Christianity = For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26
    3) Calvinism = Christ died for the elect *** Christianity = “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” John 1:29
    4) Calvinism = You are a puppet with no free will *** Christianity = “ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” Acts 7:51
    5) Calvinism = Once Saved, Always Saved *** Christianity = “that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith” 1 Timothy 4:1
    Of course, Calvinists have excuses for every one of these points. They will twist Scripture in many ways to justify their unBiblical theology. Calvinism has crept into mainstream Christianity in many ways, most notably in point number 5, taking away any responsibility from the Christian to keep the faith which is the only condition in the promise of Salvation. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
    But why should anyone care? “For I am the LORD, I change not;” Malachi 3:6 Changing the nature of God in such a fundamental way means you are no longer worshiping the God of the Bible. This fact has eternal consequences. Do not be deceived by those who post the likes of Pink, Sproul, and others. Study the Bible, Look to Christ, not to Calvin.
