    The Penicillin combines smoky flavours with sweet honey and spicy ginger.

    Great video as always of one of my favourites. For those that may drink many you can pre mix your honey syrup and ginger syrup at the 1:1, which will be easier to measure 3/4 oz instead of 3/8 oz of each. Or, which I prefer, is once the ginger is grated/juiced I add 2 part honey to 1 part ginger juice. That makes my honey/ginger syrup without the use of any extra sugar. Pure bliss.

    100$ for a Laphroaig 10 is fckn expensive, in Germany you pay about 30€ (about 35$) for it. For 70-100€ you get 20yrs plus Whisky even small batch ones. I guess opening a good Whisky destillary down under could get you rich, if you get the investors. :D

    • @StevetheBartender_
      @StevetheBartender_  5 років тому

      Those are my go to bourbon for a ‘house whiskey’ - any of three will be perfect for mixing. Rye will add spicier notes whilst the bourbon will be sweeter and is more prevalent in recipes so I’d start there... you could substitute one for another when first starting, no probs 👌

    Why straining over fresh ice is important? Why not use the same ice the drink was shaken with?
    Is it just the aesthetics and for the looks?

    • @MrKniIlz
      @MrKniIlz 5 років тому +4

      As far as I know there are 2 reasons:
      1. Yes the looks. Considering you are bartending for an other person, you want to offer the best experience possible. Fresh Ice Cubes are just larger and not shatterd. And in my opinion dumping in the old ice cubes and some of the cocktails splashes out of the glass isn't as appealing and elegent, as just using new ones.
      Doing a cocktail for yourself and you dont mind this it doesnt matter.
      2. The used cubes are already smaller in size so you tend to have not enough ice in the finished cocktail, what helps watering down the rest of the small ice cubes. Whilst using fresh ice in the glass and you put enough in it, its not gonna dilute as fast. You can find evidence for this in some UA-cam experiments where they measure the temperature.
      If you put plenty of Ice Cubes in the shaker in the first hand there might be no difference but I don't know.

    • @matthewgodwin4626
      @matthewgodwin4626 5 років тому +1

      When you shake ice, it breaks apart into little pieces and it’s really not appealing to try drinking a cocktail with tons of ice shards in it lol. And the above reasons too.

      I stock them in my store but realised I don’t even have a product listing online for the copper ones, here are the stainless steel picks: www.cocktailkit.com.au/product/stainless-steel-cocktail-picks-set-of-6/

    That looked so pleasing to make, I, for one, will definitely be investing in a bottle of that whiskey

    I love laphroaig, but prefer lagavulin although being a little less smokey laphroaig would probably work better for this

      Mmmm lagavulin is yummy. Then again this is called penicillin so laphroaig is the perfect choice here 😄

    Phenomenal video and drink! New follower to your channel, and one thing I really appreciate so far is how well your videos build on each other - with the syrups from your last video immediately being put to use in this drink. Thanks for all the effort and craft you put into this!

    Could I use a Lagavulin 16 years as the smokey element instead? (It's what I have in my bar cabinet 😄)

    • @MrKniIlz
      @MrKniIlz 5 років тому +1

      Of course, since you just want to add some smoke and peaty flavor.
      Any "smoky" whisky you like will do the job :)

      I'm not sure i agree. This is called penicillin and laphroaig is the most medicinal of the Islay malts. Then again, it's up to you i guess... wonder what the actual bartender will say though as I'm no expert 😁

      @@marija8771 Oh! Hadn't concidered that. Well trial by error it is then 😄

      @Marija Trying to replicate this exact taste, you will have to use the Laphroaig and the Monkey Shoulders and so on.
      Of course its gonna taste different if you use different ingredients, but using Lagavulin instead of Laphroaig will still be a great Penicillin ;D
      I make mine with the "Kilchoman Machir Bay" and I love it.

    Scotch is an acquired taste ( all my men love the spirit ) I prefer Bourbon.

    • @legaliciousM
      @legaliciousM 5 років тому

      Scotch isn't just Scotch. Give a man an Islay whisky like a Laphroaig, and he most likely won't enjoy it because it's so smokey. THAT'S an acquired taste. Scotch isn't not Scotch.
