  • With the latest Grand Theft Auto Online update, Rockstar Games introduced real-time ray-traced reflections into GTA Online and the base game. It's only available to use with the Fidelity Mode in the game settings. This video will demonstrate how ray-traced reflections transforms the game's world, all surfaces in Los Santos utilise the use of ray-tracing.

    Great improvement & comparison!
It really does add life to a lot of these moments, especially at 0:38 with Michael. I'd love to see a title like RDR2 receive a proper next-gen version with real-time RT.

That scene alone has made me want to start the Story Mode again. I've played GTA V at 30 FPS for almost ten years, what's a few more days?

Great comparison man! I hope it comes to PC really soon so everyone can enjoy this beauty!

Looks stellar! I am honestly impressed that a game as old as V can manage something like this. Here's hoping GTA 6 improves on this and better implements the ray-tracing, without making the game run at 30 fps. Coupled with the rdr2 style of weather effects that it has, gta 6 would look absolutely incredible

It'll probably be easier to implement RT into GTA VI without sacrificing performance, because it's a game that probably had RT in mind while it's being developed, plus is using a far more advanced version of RAGE.

@nona Borhan Yeah I'm sure it's a lot easier to implement something like rt when making a game from the ground up. Like, I'm positive the devs who were making V weren't exactly thinking about how to implement ray-tracing back in 2013. It's still impressive to see something like that in a game this old. How would the improved engine of 6 help with performance, though?

Note: there are no ray-traced reflections on bodies of water. See Digital Foundry’s video for more details.

Is Ray Tracing Really? Anyway, it looks beautiful, I hope it comes to PC!

Is it actually real ray tracing? Because unless there is something else going on here why are things like certain car parts not showing and buildings looking lower poly than normal? From what I can see it almost just looks like higher detail cubemaps or some other non ray tracing reflection methods like how mirrors worked before this update, there shouldn't be any differences at all if it was true ray tracing right?
(Don't even get me started about how the car mirrors still don't work)

Would be nice if they just put a bit of effort and time into revamping their timecycles/weather.xml’s. Like they can do all this but they can’t change a bit of code/graphical effects? Not to mention. Why doesn’t PC get this? It’s the dominant platform like cmon.

How do airplanes look when flying over water, do rivers or the sea reflect the airplane and the sky?

Heyyyy why you don't speack about vehicle part's reflections ? Now we can see the reflection of glass or spoiler in the vehicle body, and GTA looks like the first game doing that in open world!
