A lot of that has to do with his own early mature awaking. By the time he was 8 years old (1946), Robinson was making $150,000 a year. When he was 13, he told his parents that he didn't want to tour anymore - he wanted to get an education. He quit performing in 1952, finished high school by the age of 15, then completed degrees in history and psychology. He had a career in broadcast sales in Detroit until coming back to the stage in 2002. He now performs around Detroit and tours.

Esteban Guerrero You so sweet. Thank you and God bless you. I went to college and had Mexican friends. They were so ambitious and hard working. Very smart and talented people as well. I believe the most humble humans on the earth are Mexicans. Treat everyone so kind.
Val Wal Yes ... likely all babies, to get their needs met, cry. But singers (and composers) joining a tradition, as blues songs, invent an "objective correlative" to structure that emotion. When Chile sings "Caledonia," he's likely too young to have experienced the adult romance frustration he sings of, but he's a great Method emoter of the song--and his being a child makes it funny. (Like Alfalfa crooning con brio.).
Not only is he amazingly talented, but he shows talent as a great comic and actor as well. I played another video I found online of him playing at age 70 and he still has it! Why has he been hidden and why are we just now finding out about him? I'd like to see him on a talk show.
Wow! How cute and how talented! I'd never heard of him before (sharing this)! Also always nice to hear and see the Count talk in his great speaking voice (and doing a comedy routine, like here)
I never ever not one day in my 29 yrs ever heard anybody mention this guy... I feel so CHEATED. he is GREAT. OH MY GOD. I read that he is 73 yrs old now and still plays music. how neat. I feel so cheated that I never knew any history on this guy..
@nancysstory Wikipedia: Robinson continued to tour Europe and America until the mid-1950s when he opted to pursue an academic career. He earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Michigan. Remaining in musical obscurity throughout the latter 20th century, he surfaced in the early 2000s, and has made a comeback with the help of the American Music Research Foundation.
I Love it ! notice his feet don't touch the floor , what talent ! AND he is play black keys sharps and flats, normally the blues and boogie are mostly C F & G major keys.
OMG I couldn't agree more. This is always the way I have seen music, ever since I grew up watching The blues brothers and discovered the amazing Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and all the other greats. I swear music isn't music without soul and yes as you said they invented it. Amen! :-)

@LadyCoolJazz He didn't earn a Ph.D. nor did he attend the U. of Michigan. He graduated from Olivet College here in Michigan with a B.A. in Psychology around 1960.

If he's not an epitome example of an old soul, I don't know what would be. Ability like his at such a young age defies all logic.

An awesome natural supertalent. Virtuosity keyboarding and creative melodic and lyric wit; delightful. A little Mozart of R&B.
JudgeJulieLit I would not doubt that he was the reincarnation of somebody like Mozart since he was self-taught at a very young age!
