Ive been trying to work on my pentatonic shifting lately and I told myself, “I wish Chad could make a pentatonic shifting video” and here we are! I’m not saying I’m psychic but...
Haha thanks for watching!
Synchronicity baby!
these classes are a goldmine!
This was a very informative video Chad thank you
Great lesson Chad.
Not only are you an outstanding player, you're also a fine musical educator.
Wow ! Been asking you about this just a while ago and here it is ... Great ! Thank you Chad :)
Thanks for the request!!
what a great teacher, thank you so much for these contents!
Thank you, Marcello!!
Love this!! Awesome possibilities
Thanks for watching!
Great explanation of this concept! Also very clear way to shed the material. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Joseph!
There's nothing wrong with developing your own tools. and thanks for explaining why and how to use it
Great lesson, great modern sounds, simple yet powerful concepts!
Thank you, Franco!!
Wow! Great overview of pentatonics, especially helping me to decide to chisel off some of the extraneous (even distracting) thoughts I've had about them over the years. You also helped to show how to get in and out them in a solo while keeping a consistent harmonic and melodic story intact over the changes. This and your articulations series are on my current top wishlist, for sure. Doo-dennnnnn! ;)
Man thank you so much for the advice on developing phrases on the shifting, seems like something that would click relatively quick.
Thanks for watching! Glad you’re enjoying the content!
Thanks Chad! This is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! There's a lot of pentatonic scale stuff happening in Rock and my roommates have been trying to get me to play sax in their band so this is really helpful
Thanks for watching, Connor! Glad you’re enjoying the content!
Hello Chad ! This is the kind of video that i asked you one month ago !! Thanks !!!
Thanks for the request! :)
His greatest superpower is being able to play both modern and melodic at the same time
Haha thank you, Rummy!
Thanks again!!🙏
Great Lesson!
I wish that I knew more about Chad Lb as a person.
Anyone else want him to do a Q&A?
No not really Simon, just listen stay focused on what he's teaching & stay in the Shed!
Its a vibe
Super helpful
LB is the best
It's amazing, you awesome!! Thank you)🎷
Thank you!
Great !
I would love for you to cover how to develop articulations - currently re-working my approach.
Love this video! Woody Shaw is a great person to listen to for pentatonic stuff
Thank you! Yes absolutely!
Yes, also Coltrane, Kenny Garrett, Brecker and Bergonzi. They all have great pentatonic vocabulary.
Here are my four steps 1) C,D,E,G,A,C 2) C,C#,D,D#,E,G,G#A,C 3) C,D,E,F,F#,G,A,A#,B,C 4) (Put 2 and 3 together) chromatic scale
Master🔥🔥🔥
i feel pentatonics makes people sound smart for some reason
Must be the leaps
Great great great
One time on American Idol Keith Urban said to a contestant, "Nice use of pentatonics." J.LO turned to him and asked, "What's a pentatonic?"
Love the jerry bergonzi stuff
Nice one chad : )
I call it the “Gin & Tonic” scale.
Это то, что нужно !!!
9:20 , thanks for the discussion about patterns, i have that limiting belief that they are only for robots
Does the Pentatonic Master class include the Minor, Major, and Dominant pentatonic scales in all twelve keys like the "Pentatonic Patterns for Jazz Improvisation"?
I really appreciate you sharing this.
Do you happen have the pdf in bass clef?
It makes a difference!
Thank you, Christian! Yep treble and bass clef version available at www.jazzlessonvideos.com/masterclass
hello fine sir i ben self studying tonal language modal language polytonal language atonal language i was wondering if you noticed vertices where these 4 distint languages combine into one holographic harmony that behaves like a visual fractal ? its common to see overlap of tonal and modal people have worked on the areas of unification i was just wondering your take. the reason i say the unification is fractal is due to self similarity reappearing at all scales when one considers all possibilities thanks for your time
I seen yo playing around with the Emeo I'm thinking of getting one. Will I be wasting my money?
Good morning my friend, I would like to know what brand of mouthpiece you use on your tenor saxophone.
Always great to see a new Chad LB video in my feed. Are you interested in selling a pdf I am making (it's something similar to the transcription books)?
Thanks, Sergej! All business inquiries can be sent through my website or www.jazzlessonvideos.com
@@ChadLefkowitzBrown Thanks! Im trying to get money to buy a tenor sax. And I think I have a good idea for a book so once I'm done I will contact you.
So if I undrestand correctly, all these penta. subs are played over a single Dm7 chord right ?!
Made it about 7 minutes in. I'm clearly not ready to get into this stuff in my playing yet. My head hurts
♥♥♥
Chad do U have pdf charts in bass clef?
How you can do that???
Do we have to use only minor pentatonics or also major pentatonics?
11:07
Got it, but why those 5 options, what is the relationship between them? Any given interval? In your example F you go to Fm, Gm, bbm,.... ? Why those?
Ditto
Great question! If you’re shifting using minor pentatonics, then any given note can be found in 5 different minor pentatonic scales. For instance, the note D can be found in following minor pentatonic scales: D, E, G, A, and B. So anytime you land on a note in a pentatonic pattern, and you want to pivot to a new pentatonic scale using that note as a common tone, you have 4 options for new pentatonic scales that contain that note. Thus, you can shift to any of those new scales using that selected note as a common tone between the two scales. In the given example of pentatonic shifting in this video, we shift using a common tone on beat 1 of every bar. Hope that helps :) For more examples of pentatonic shifting, feel free to check out the full masterclass and supplemental PDF!
@@ChadLefkowitzBrown That helps! :)
Thanks
Chad LB Thank you for the video and for additional comments/replies like the one I’m commenting on now! Brilliantly explained, Sir! :)
Play the phrases !!!
I love your teachings super cool but help us Hispanics who do not speak English by putting subtitles in Spanish to understand your explanations thank you very much blessings
I’m debating trying the text lessons out as a relative beginner to jazz. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for weather it’s worth it or not?
I’m learning a lot so far. You need to do your homework, but he’s very responsive. Give it a try and see if it works!
I appear with permanent stank face
Haha thanks, Henry!
Yeah, Micheal Brecker’s problem was that he kept repeating those 2,000,000 patterns of his.
literally everyone plays the same patterns they know over and over
SecretLizardPoliceSquad But not everyone has 2,000,000 patterns to repeat over and over.
