You really need to research your explanation of the Toyota eCVT gearbox it has no belt all a planetary gear system with MG1 & MG2 electric motors it is not a DAF variomatic or Nissan !!

Many people seem to make the mistake of thinking Toyota's E-CVT is similar to the classic pulley and belt system, as found on Nissans ect... It's not, and it's a lot more clever and far more reliable. It's an epicycloidal gear set, driving, and being driven by two electric motors and the petrol engine. It's Prius technology, and what Toyota uses on every of its hybrid engine.
A big factor in my purchase decision. It's very clever, efficient, and reliable, and believe it or not simplifies the mechanical parts of the transmission and engine accessories immensely (hence, improved reliability). And yes, it does the CVT thing, it's definitely not a driver's car, not for the driving experience, but for the rest, the Touring version ticks all boxes as a family car / shopping trolley. The hatchback, less so due to compromised rear space.
An easy way of telling the 1.8 and 2.0 apart, is where the battery is situated. If it's in the boot, it's the 2.0L.
It's not a car for everyone, it's compromised in some ways, the Civic is a better all-round package, but I'm a sucker for clever engineering, I wanted an estate, and really, it's a very good product in the 2.0L Touring version.

Oh yeah, no turbo, just a VVTI 4-cylinders.
And Toyota will never put a DSG transmission or anything else in their hybrids. The E-CVT is the heart of their hybrid system in all their models, it's their 'raison d'être' :)
If you want something more traditional and still efficient and reliable, get the Honda Civic E:HEV. Even then, it not a typical dual-clutch gearbox, but it's a bit less 'CVT'.

The Original Toyota corolla was the crown!
    Corolla in Japanese is crown!
Later they did produce a car called crown, but this was much larger,in fact it was the largest car imported to UK by Toyota!
I started working with Toyota in 1976 in Glasgow, Sterling cars,
Corolla was a great car, totally reliable even then except for timing chains which stretch , these were cheaply and easily replaced.
The Gen 5 gearbox is E CVT , 2 electric motors,1 to charger, 1 to drive ,no transition gears ,only 1 transfer gear to diff, no belts, synchros cones etc completely ahead of
Everything else on market ,no torque converter, valve body , no clutch es.
And now very quiet only unless you're driving with your foot on the floor.
Read the manual and drive accordingly, the car is a pleasure!

I gave up watching this as soon as he said it is a CVT transmission driven by a rubber band - WRONG! And also that engine is not the 2.0l it's the 1.8l -

1/10 for correct information. No turbo on these corolla it was the 1.8 litre not 2.0 litre and also it's not a 10 year unlimited warranty it's up to 10 year or 100,000 miles if serviced at toyota every year. And it's a e-cvt not the old rubber band type.

Had a DSG and now have a MY23 Corolla. If you floor it every then yeah it whines but 99% of the time driving normally the eCVT especially on this new version is fine. Build Quality blows everything out of the park !

Well said i had a Hyundai DCT and now own a corolla 1.8 Hybrid the clutchless transmission is night and day smoother and less clunky/dim whitted sure it revs if you plant it what ICE car won't, driven normally eCVT is very good even better on this 5th gen.

No turbos on these; The car you’re demonstrating is a 1.8. The CVT is not as you describe. It has a 3 yr 60000 warrenty, (not unlimited) -

Oh dear. Seems like you just copy and pasted someones else’s review of an older generation. After all the hard work Toyota has put into this fifth generation with its e-cvt transmission (rubber band 😂😂😂) amongst many other improvements. Quite honestly It’s a wonder Toyota doesn’t sue you! 😂

I own the 2.0lt version and the one you are reviewing is the 1.8lt. I also have a space saver spare wheel, do your research as both petrol engines are non turbocharged and the CVT gearbox doesn’t have a belt.

I had the previous model as a hire car for a couple of weeks, and it was on the whole a decent little motor!! That said, as you pointed out, the gearbox was bloody awful! Any longer than a couple of weeks and it would have driven me absolutely mental!!
Sadly, I think the only thing all these new Toyota's seem to be designed and destined for is, hire car firms and maybe the next new car in the uber/mini cab fleet!!

You made yourself foul with this biased comment. The eCVT in Toyota hybrids it’s the best transmission for daily drivers. In comparison to dsg it’s a million miles ahead. Dsg only good for sport driving, unreliable and unrefined.

You seem to lack in understanding the purpose of this car : fuel economy, THEREFORE eCVT. Toyota has been doing this brilliantly since the 1st Prius, a recipe refined over the years. Next time, care to switch your brain on before typing.
