One fun fact, the lines: "Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT..." and "Neckties, contracts, High Voltage!" near the end actually reference some previous songs. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap was the band's second album. On the first album were the title track, High Voltage, and the band's biggest hit prior to Dirty Deeds, TNT. TNT would definitely be a fun one for Elizabeth to review.
Actually it was their their third album. “High Voltage” and “TNT” were the first two albums. They were compiled as “High Voltage” for foreign markets. The AU editions have recently been reissued in their complete form.
@@mikepapas9395 You're slightly mistaken, my friend. "Dirty Deeds" was their *fourth* album, with "Jailbreak '74" being the debut. Then came "TNT" and "High Voltage".
What a musical journey Elizabeth has gone on from where she started on this channel. I've learned a crapton about voice watching, and she's gone all heavy metal n stuff. Glorious.
When I was a kid growing up in the late 70’s, my sister, who was 8 years older than me and my hero, had this album, and listened to it all the time, which started me on my lifelong love of AC/DC.
As someone that's been playing in rock bands and singing in choirs for 45 yrs.... I really appreciate a vocal expert analyzing and appreciating rock vocals. This song is one of the many many songs I get to sing on a given Saturday night, then wake up 6 hours later and sing bass in the church choir.😛
Bon always sounded like he was singing "behind his tongue," kind of like the old cartoon character Droopy Dog. And it made his voice stand out. He had a very clear and bright delivery. His witty lyrics and storytelling made those early records..... and Angus' guitar, of course.
Bon Scott's vocal and those hard hitting bluesy riffs give you free license to submerge yourself unashamedly in your dark side. Raw, gritty, blues with a pair.....
“Let’s talk about resolving conflict.” Hahaha!!! Too damn funny. Thank you, Elizabeth!! It can be super fun sometimes to enjoy something that is supposedly socially naughty :-).
AC/DC played at a dance at my high school (Frankston, Melbourne, Australia) with Bon rocking the hall; with the "sharpies" doing their own dance style.
ACDC might be my #1 "essential" band to have in my music rotation for all occasions! Especially with Bon Scott and especially this song!! I actually have this songs intro as my phone's ringtone and it's been there for years and never get tired of it as I have with so many other songs in the past. Scotts vocals in this one is particularly amazing too!! Damn, why does it always have to be the best ones that have to leave us so soon?
ACDC is notorious for doing songs that people misunderstand. From Wikipedia: [The phrase "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" is an homage to the cartoon Beany and Cecil, which Angus Young watched when he was a child. One of the cartoon's characters was named Dishonest John, who carried a business card that read: "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Holidays, Sundays, and Special Rates." “It was Angus that came up with the song title…" Malcolm Young told Mark Blake. "It was based on a cartoon character that had the phrase as his calling card."]
Studio version of "Ride On" by AC/DC - one of the cleanest examples of both his vocals and their lead guitarist. Truly a masterpiece and VERY underrated.
Fascinating, I've never heard this song broken down before, and there's so much going on in it ,every thing from the drums to the vocal fits together brilliantly to a great rock classic, great video thanks for sharing 👍
AC/DC is my favorite band. Both Bon and Brian are fantastic. There's so many songs I'd love to hear you react to. I think two of my top picks at the moment would be Night Prowler with Bon Scott on vocals. As for a Brian Johnson song, I'd love to see you react to Rock and roll ain't noise pollution! Absolutely amazing video!
I LOVE your breakdowns of vocalization. I've been a lover of music all my life, ODDLY enough starting when my uncle introduced me to THESE guys, AC/DC. I learned a lot more about music in band and choir in school. This song came out near when I was born in the early 70s, back when people DID handle their own conflicts. I've always enjoyed the song because I heard humor, fun, and sarcasm. AC/DC fan for life. Basic, loud, ROCK!
I have followed you a few years now, and I love seeing your confidence in reviewing rock/metal evolve and also your sincere appreciation of the genres :) Keep up the good work!
If you ever want to understand “old school Australian vibes”, AC/DC, The Angels and Cold Chisel are great places to start. They sound like what stale beer and cigarettes smell like and we love them for it…it sounds and smells like home
@@megclifton6692 is this where you bring up that they were more Scottish and that because outside of their family heritage…they were formed in Australia…
In my early childhood (circa 1962), there was a cartoon called Beanie and Cecil which featured a gangster named Dishonest John. He had a business card that said, "Dirty deeds done dirt cheap". That was the inspiration for this song.
The great thing with AC/DC videos showing Bon is that you can see and hear the lyrics thru his eyes. Also, to me this is one of the best Malcolm Young background vocals tunes.
I was fortunate enough to see AC/DC twice before Bon Scott died, once in 78 then again in 79, I love what Brian Johnson did and they were big shoes to fill so nothing but respect to him, but AC/DC will always be Bon Scott to me, he was the epitome of a rock singer, rude, crude and socially unacceptable...R.I.P Bon Scott.
The great thing about this song, and a reason why you should not feel bad for enjoying it, is the sheer sense of fun in it. Bon was a master at taking pretty dark themes and presenting them with a delightful sense of ironic humor...He's having so much fun with it...Case in point, yelling "high voltage!" as if he's being electrocuted is absolute comedic genius. He was one of a kind.
I've heard this song hundreds of times, and only after this analysis the penny dropped - this song should have been in a musical, sung by the main villain!
In this musical the next number should be Sin City. The last two should be Jailbreak and Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be. I'm sure other suggestions can fill in gaps.
A witch's voice with heft telling a story. Pretty apt. This song is just the tip of the iceberg with Bon Scott and this band. I love the younger generations discovering this band, and learning that rock at one time used to be pretty good, and ACDC/Bon was at the apotheosis of a fantastic era of great music.
I love watching these videos because Elizabeth makes me hear songs I'm familiar with in a whole new way. And when I saw the subject of this one I just *knew* the best part, for me anyway, would be her reaction to Bon Scott's sliding diphthong-ish "eauw" at 11:17. And I was not disappointed! Her delight delights me so much! [edited to correct timestamp]
First he was blessed with a sleazy tone. Second he was never out of tune, even live. Bon was a vocal version of the guitar and vice versa, which makes the times they ‘talked’ to each other in some songs so enjoyable.
No he didn’t, he’s what we in Australia affectionately call a “dunny door poet” basically Bon writes lyrics you’ll find on the back of the door of a public toilet or thunder box.
@@Giveme1goodreasonyeah that sounds right. I wasn't alive in the 70's and I've never been to Australia, but I like to imagine they captured the wildness and bottled it up forever in their music.
I was waiting for her reaction at 11:18!!!! I've listened to AC-DC for 45 years and I love hearing what a professional thinks while having a ton of fun. I learn things (the commonality between Angus's guitar solo and Bon's voice). Her observation that the band writes songs that encourage participation is quite astute. . . . Can she do a video for every AC-DC song?
When I was a kid, I thought the lyrics were "dirty deeds and the dunder chief", and I'd belt that out loud and proud. That was before social media and Google...
Thanks for doing argulbly my favorite band of all time. I fell in love with AC⚡️DC during high school and I grew up with them. Each of their hits tells a story for me…. Back in Black, Highway to Hell, For Those About To Rock, etc.
With Bon it’s all about the character, cheekiness & expression in his voice, so distinct.. Im Australian and saw them at the hobbit hole youth centre in about 1974 (ie small crowd).. You don’t have to be technically pitch perfect to be a great singer/frontman… I’d put Bon up there with Dave Lee Roth as one of best in the business 😎👍

Genius , All their entire proposal are so unique .
I'm french, and my english teacher is australian, for my first lesson i arrived with a not discreet AC/DC tee shirt 😅As australian she was so happy ! And she said that AC/DC lyrics are soooo funny !
Live on stage they were / are killers , an unforgettable experience of joy 👌
This is what I'm talking about!! BON SCOTT!!
WOOT!
💯👊
AC\DC with Bon Scott was so much more fun. Bon's lyrics were often double entendres and they still bring a smile to my face.
Absolutely spot on
Only "often"?? It seems more like "usually"...
Big Balls is his masterpiece.
I first heard them in 1978 and I can’t imagine listening to them without Bon! Sorry Brian but Bon will always be my man.
You will never hear a worse background vocal than on Dirty Deeds and it suits the song perfectly. After all these years still love it.
🎯💯
@@brettchew3771not mistaken at all. Check the chronology.
What a musical journey Elizabeth has gone on from where she started on this channel. I've learned a crapton about voice watching, and she's gone all heavy metal n stuff. Glorious.
Bon Scott = PURE swagger!
Proper AC/DC we miss you Bon ❤
Your exasperation and occasional expression of disbelief when listening to Bon's vocals in this are just delightful 😂
I had a Smile on my Dial from Start to Finish. Bon Scott, what a Legend. Great Review!
“Let’s talk about resolving conflict.” Hahaha!!! Too damn funny. Thank you, Elizabeth!! It can be super fun sometimes to enjoy something that is supposedly socially naughty :-).
Bon was probably the best frontman rock n roll ever faced! Everything about him was pure RnR!!
Stevie Wright good too😊
10 year old me: Mom, what's a dunder chief?
for me it was thunder chief
Lol or thunder chief!
@@nicklaplante6729 100% thunder chief is what I hear as a kid.
My daughter told me that when she was little she thought it was "Dirty Dee and the Thunder Jeep"
My 4 yo son used to get in the car and say “ Dad, Dad..play dunda cheeks!”
One of my favorite songs from ACDC. It's the anthem of my Marine Corps. We do dirty deeds, dirt cheap..
Studio version of "Ride On" by AC/DC - one of the cleanest examples of both his vocals and their lead guitarist. Truly a masterpiece and VERY underrated.
Ride on is one of my examples of why the OLD AC/DC is so much better..... Squealer is great also.
I love your AC/DC reviews.
Very fun to watch.
What I find special about these early songs and Bon Scott, is how much speech quality his singing has....
Bon Scott was having so much fun. When I first heard ACDC I went nuts. ACDC Dirty Deeds is worth your ticket alone.
Fascinating, I've never heard this song broken down before, and there's so much going on in it ,every thing from the drums to the vocal fits together brilliantly to a great rock classic, great video thanks for sharing 👍
Love, love your hair Elizabeth! Beautiful color. You're looking more radiant than ever.😉
Absofuckenlutley
They are not Aussie though😮
@@megclifton6692 is this where you bring up that they were more Scottish and that because outside of their family heritage…they were formed in Australia…
This was the first LP i ever bought 40 years ago. What a difference to the ABBA records of my parents. AC/DC wired my brain for good.
I mean it’s tongue and cheek, it a story about a character. It doesn’t question your character if you like it
I love the way her hair falls over her shoulder. The colour is so beautiful. I hated my red hair when I was young but I definitely like it now.
It's stunning. Beautiful lady.
In my early childhood (circa 1962), there was a cartoon called Beanie and Cecil which featured a gangster named Dishonest John. He had a business card that said, "Dirty deeds done dirt cheap". That was the inspiration for this song.
Song is based on Angus’s favorite cartoon character from Beany & Cecil, Dishonest John 😂👍. Bon is king
The great thing with AC/DC videos showing Bon is that you can see and hear the lyrics thru his eyes.
Also, to me this is one of the best Malcolm Young background vocals tunes.
Yes and yes!
This song is so much fun. I can picture Bon Scott smiling while he is singing it
I've heard this song hundreds of times, and only after this analysis the penny dropped - this song should have been in a musical, sung by the main villain!
No one else could EVER sound like Bon Scott
I laughed, I cried, I marvelled!
Thank you for this.
I'm off to watch your next one
I love watching these videos because Elizabeth makes me hear songs I'm familiar with in a whole new way.
And when I saw the subject of this one I just *knew* the best part, for me anyway, would be her reaction to Bon Scott's sliding diphthong-ish "eauw" at 11:17.
And I was not disappointed! Her delight delights me so much!

This is my 2nd overall favorite
AC/DC song.
No. 1 is Down Payment Blues.
It. Is. The. Best.
My favorite is "Money Talks"
My favorite is It’s a Long Way
Unapologetic. The perfect description of Bon's delivery.
First he was blessed with a sleazy tone. Second he was never out of tune, even live. Bon was a vocal version of the guitar and vice versa, which makes the times they ‘talked’ to each other in some songs so enjoyable.
For example "Go Down"!
Bon Scott somehow managed to turn writing about sex, drugs and rock and roll into a high art form.
There where 2 front men in this band bon and angus and they worked so well! never been done again but the whole band was tight as!
Night Prowler, you gotta do it! Bon gives an insane performance, just brilliant.
That'd be a great pic along with Beatn Around the Bush
Also good example of Bon is If You Want Blood (You got it)
Bon was a Smiling Assassin with Lyrics ❤
When I was a kid, I thought the lyrics were "dirty deeds and the dunder chief", and I'd belt that out loud and proud. That was before social media and Google...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I hear you. Love it.
Thanks for doing argulbly my favorite band of all time. I fell in love with AC⚡️DC during high school and I grew up with them. Each of their hits tells a story for me…. Back in Black, Highway to Hell, For Those About To Rock, etc.
Bon Scott always had that impish twinkle in his eye.
2 of the "terrible things" at the end, are early songs of theirs... TNT and High Voltage. Both are Amazing :D
I absolutely enjoy seeing someone of your education and youth having such a good time with the very music I grew up with. I thoroughly enjoy your videos!! Re-visiting "my" music with you and seeing the way you "take it apart" , then, react to it gives me goose bumps. Thanks for your great input on this style of music!!!
Love your analysis of all the stuff on your channel, but the Bon Scott songs recently have been a real treat
