Ovechkin just made NHL history
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 бер 2024
- It is now Gordie Howe, Brendan Shanahan and Alexander Ovechkin. That's it. Last night, as the Washington Capitals came into the Saddledome to face the Calgary Flames, Alexander Ovechkin made history becoming only the 3rd player in NHL history to have scored 20 or more goals in 19 consecutive seasons. Despite getting off to an extremely cold start to this NHL season, Ovechkin has picked it up and scored not one but 2 powerplay goals on route to a big victory in Calgary as the Caps are now officially in a Wild Card playoff spot led by their captain. The game was a good one, so enjoy as I cover that and much more in todays NHL hockey video!

Sorry I'm late on this one guys! Going to be real busy with work these next 3-5 weeks, so please be patient with me. I'll try my best to keep the videos coming! Thank you for watching -NMU
No problem
Good luck with the busy work schedule! Appreciate the videos when you can post them.
you got how many goals behind gretzky he is wrong, he only needs 51 goals
Life has a habit of getting in the way, take your time, your content is good enough to wait for.
Wings have the 2nd wild card spot... nice try
You just tell your employer that hockey comes first and that we need these videos.
Dont do this please lol love the vids tho
You want him fired?
No one seems to mention that Niklas Backstrom, the center that had played with OV and assisted sooo many of his goals, has been out the entire season. That changes the entire team and especially the guys on his line.
Backstrom played 300+ game less than Ovi.You should also count it.
@ssal_v_rot_youtubu I'm surely not saying OV is no good without Backstrom, OV is my favorite player of all time, I'm just saying in regards to the videos I've seen lately regarding his scoring woes.
I thought half of backstromes assists were to ovi, could make all the difference getting him back next season
and his dad passing. clearly this is taking a toll on him more than people see. Same as in 2011, when he scored what, 32 goals in a full season? he also happened to break up with a russian tennis player, so clearly his personal life has its impacts.
@ferrallderrall6588 that sounds about right and I would have to look at stats but I agree with the sentiment. They were an incredible duo. Oates Hull. Esque
Since January 27th, Ovechkin has 13 goals in 21 games and 23 points.
He has the 4th most goals and 15th most points in the league since that date.
Sure it’s all a bunch of one timers and lazy goals.
@@scooburst He needs to add more ENGs to really fuel his haters. He's really cooled off on those. #895 into an empty net would be hilarious.
@@scooburst So youre saying a one timer isnt a legitimate goal?
@@scooburst its okay baby your fave player will score 5 goal at the end of the season do not cry :)
@@scoobursthahaha. Imagine thinking an UNSTOPPABLE one timer isn't a legit goal. You're hilarious.
It was also his 128th game winning goal, moving within 8 of overtaking Jagr's record. He also scored his 308th and 309th PPGs, further distancing himself from the rest of the league by 35 goals. Further, Stamkos is the closest behind him of active players with 209 PPGs. it'll be a long tme before someone else breaks 300 PPGs. Not even Mathews is on pace for 300 in 1400 games.
As a flames fan, Wolf should be honoured to be one of the goalies who Ovie scored on
It’s a big club and we aren’t in it
Everyone quickly forgot that Ovi lost his dad late last season and needed time to grieve. I am EXTREMELY happy he's back!
Also, Nastasiya and the boys are a lot less present. They are hardly at games this season and someone mentioned that for a long period that were still in Russia. Can’t exactly verify all this but Sergei and Ilya are not the consistent presence they have been before
@@markgleason2078 Russia needs its citizens for their war effort.
I always wondered why there were so few Americans vs Canadians in the league 🤣

I'm a diehard/lifetime Red Wings fan, but I was super happy for Ovie when he won the Cup in 2018. I'll be happy for him again if he does manage to pass the Great One, I bet Wayne himself would be happy also. If it happens I hope they take a picture like Gordie Howe & Gretzky did with the goals written on tape on the pucks. :)
Imagine Ovie had a '05 season and an extra 32 games from covid?
He would have had at least 40 each of those seasons, most likely 50 in one. That would have gave him the most 30,40,and 50 goal seasons, not to mention the 48 and 49 goal seasons he had.
@@PROGROCK-tr9hwMathematically:
he's tied for the lead in 50-goal seasons; he *would* have 2 more if not for the '12-'13 lockout (he actually scored 51 goals, 45 assists, 96 points in 79 games, just split between the NHL - 48 games - and KHL - 31 games. He had more goals-per-game in the NHL than KHL too, so at that rate he'd've actually scored more than 51).
THEN he had 48 in 68 in ''19-'20 before the Covid lockout; he'd missed 1 game, so he needed 2 in 13 games to reach 50. 100% he does it.
Giving him 40 as an 18 year old rookie (conservative), plus the 19 he scored in '12-'13 (again, conservative because his NHL goal-scoring pace was higher), then pro-rating his goals during the 2 Covid lockouts - he scored 48, was on pace for 57; he scored 24, was on pace for 38 - that's
40 + 19 + 9 + 14 = 82
He has 848 + 82 = 930.
That's not even including all the times the NHL has stolen perfectly legal goals; there've been A TON, none (for any player, ever) more egregious than his GWG vs NSH earlier this season. Which, by the way, would've marked the GWG in 3 straight games.
@@PROGROCK-tr9hwAs far as almost-got-the-milestone... there's really only 2 I'd identify (ignoring the already addressed lockouts: mainly that 48 in '19-20)
In '11-'12 he got 38 in 78; *very* close to 40
In '17-'18 he got 49 in 81; so damn close! If I could just give him one more goal (to this point) in his career, yeah, that season plus all the other hypotheticals give him THREE more 50-goal seasons than anybody else.
But that's more disingenuous to me than the lockouts, you know? He didn't get a 50 goal season because he didn't score 50; he "only" got 49. Oh well. The 4 lockout seasons, man, that's what kills me.
wow what an what if. in 05 he might have been too premature and get seriously sidelined or injured or whatever.
what if dude x played for 1000 games and made 3 goals in every game
Might have been accidental, but Gretzky is “The Great One”. No problem calling Ovie Great 8, he’s an amazing player and scorer, plus seems like a very good dude, standing for hours signing autographs.
Ovi is just messin' with us. He'll train harder this off season and come back 20 lbs lighter and a new man for the 24-25 season.
I've been saying all season that I feel like Ovie will have a bounce back season next year. I wasn't giving up hope until I seen him struggle two years in a row. The way he's been playing in the second half of the season has reassured me in saying "I feel he can pop 40 next season". Assuming he can pop 4 more in the last 15 this year and finish the season with 25 that would leave him 48 short of breaking. With my prediction of the bounce back season putting him in single digits of breaking the record I would guess he signs a very team friendly one year contract for 25-26 and tells the GM "there, go build me a cup winning team"
I think Ovi pops off and scores 45-50 next year. Then the next season will just be him piling on to the record , I see him getting more then 900 for sure.
@@sylvestorstyllstoned488 I don't think he'll hit 50, but I can see another one of those "damn, so close to fifty" 48-49 goal seasons which is why I'm really hoping he ends this year with at least 25 (that'd put him 48 short of breaking). Even if he breaks the record next year which I put at very slim chances, I see him signing a very team friendly one year contract for 25-26 to say "bring me a championship team with the extra cap space", and even possibly a second time for 26-27; I just think he had way too much fun in the summer of 2018 to not try to go for it again, I can't see next year being his last regardless of if he's got the record or not so yes that means I see him finishing in the 900's
@@chrismac5560 hes done. he looks old smells old plays old

I think no one takes into account his father passing away last year May have affected him as well.
Yup. He went into a tailspin that carried into this year. He's only come out of it the last few months.
@@jbellflower83 no time table on grief, I’m sure Backstrom’s situation didn’t help either.

@@pekestyxx6674and what situation is it?
@dolphin082 he had hip resurfacing procedure done trying to save his career. Procedure was unsuccessful and he stepped away from the game early in the season. They've been very good friends and linemates virtually their whole careers.
Thank you for even making videos no matter how long it takes
I think as long as Ovi is healthy, he's not going to retire until he hits 900
He's already said he's going to retire when his contract is up.
Yeah, he did mention that he plans to retire when his contract is up, however, it'd be really nice to see him beat the record. I will say, if he doesn't beat it inside his contract, it won't be as satisfying watching him beat the record in another jersey, assuming another team tries to offer a one-year to soak up ticket sales.
@@bunnyqt5201I'd rather see him retire even if he hasn't gotten there than hobble to the record.
I really hope that going forward, after he retires, the Capitals permanently have a #8 at the top of the circle in tribute to their greatest player.
I think he was hurt before the break. Now, he's back on track
Glad to see my flames are doing their part to help ovie make history lol 😂
Congrats Great 8/OV
In my mind Ovi already has the record, the average save percentage of a goalie today is a lot higher than in the 80's and 90's when Gretzky played.
Well, you can look at it this way, Ovi is 38 and, same age Gretzky was when he retired and he hasn’t passed him yet.
Gretzky’s WHA goals don’t count either. It’s sort of like Ichiro racking up over 1000 hits in Japan that don’t count towards his MLB total. Add them all together and he had more hits than Pete Rose.
@@untexanif you add WHA goals then Howe would be the leader
@@untexanIf it weren't for the lockouts, Ovie would have a minimum of 930 goals by now. So I don't want to hear about how Gretzky is actually a better goal scorer than Ovie despite the goaltending now because of the WHA.
Good luck with the busy week! Always appreciate the content!
Thank you! 😊
Making great content with a full time job is a huge commitment and your vids are always great, thanks for all the work
Ovies dad died approximately a year ago. I can imagine that was the hardest offseason of his life(his father was the most important person to him). He probably had no motivation to train. I wouldn't even be surprised if retirement was creeping into his mind. All things considered(is there a guy on the team good enough to even play on his line right now??) I would say he deserves the benefit of the doubt for this one down year. I will say one thing tho, if Ovie wants that record come hell or high water he will get it.
I think he was carrying a pretty significant injury. The all-star break gave him the rest he needed
@@XaviRonaldo0 How many Goal / Asist Gretzky scored against

And he miss 120 games do to Season Lookout and Coved. Ovi nr 1
If OV stays healthy I believe he will break the record because it seems like the chase reignited his passion and hunger for goals.
With your voice and hockey knowledge, you'd actually make a great color guy! Keep up the good work.
Awesome work man. Thanks for all the video's.
He's the best if it wasn't for the lock OUTS and bullshit COVID season s he would have a thousand plus look at the difference in goaltender s OVIE is the greatest goal scorer ever
I am not sure what they feed them in Eastern Europe and Russia, but those boys are just built different. Ovi as much as I dislike him as an opposing player, he is on a different level.
He can do it!
love the caps content ❤❤
Go caps!!!!!
Just saw them in Seattle
That 4:48 goal introduced Ovechkin to Gretzky and the hockey world!
Awesome to see Ovi hitting 20 goals again
The man’s a beast. Gonna miss seeing him play when he does retire but this contract he’s on I think he breaks the record by Christmas in the last season
Im happy to see him get at least 20 this season
If he hits 30 he'll have the most 30 goal seasons ever
9 in the last 15 feels rather unlikely, better chance he gets that next year with a bounce back season that sees him play like he has in the second half this year for the full season
I don't think he will, but if he scores 25-26, this will give him a good chance to beat Gretzky's all-time record during the closing two seasons of his career.
That's a tall order for him, especially since the Caps have a ton of tough games in front of them. I can see him getting 4 or 5 more this season, but 9 in 15 would be difficult.
@troybaxter if he nets 1 hat trick ...he'd just need 6 goals in 14 games ..not far fetch with 13 goals in past 21 games. I predicted start of season he'd only do 28..I'm pretty close so far haha...but ya I don't see 30 happening
@@marcleblanc6691 If anyone could do it, it would be Ovi, but the competition he has in front of him will probably prevent that.
My guess is that he will end the regular season with 27 goals.
it;s a bad year and hes still making history
The caps will be dangerous in the playoffs this year. There catching fire right at the right time
Ovi's dad dying affected him. He went into a funk for awhile after that. Hes finally coming around and looking like Ovi again.
I would be genuinely surprised if Ovi doesn't catch it
I would not be surprised if Ovechkin was hurt to start the season because since the new year his goal-scoring rate has been at a much higher rate.
i smile every single time i see that notorious ovi goal
What an up and down season for both but glad Ovi may break it even tho he stumped us twice.
Whether or not he breaks the record
He has definitely earned that Great 8 nickname
Yes!
I've watched Kuznetsov since he came to Carolina, I am getting a very compact ride of what the Caps fans have been celebrating for decades. It's actually awesome 😎
The great 8 better beat the Gretzky record, and Gretzky better buy him a steak dinner because the price was high 😂
This was so surprising because i was at the game
And just after this game he has scored another 3 goals in the next 2 games
Ovi could have had a Hattie against Edmonton.
Skinner stoned him a few times in that game.
Heres an interesting question, whats the monetization like with these videos? With copyright

EZ
4:05 great commentary
Werk? Pffft.
I love these well-made recaps of things I would never get to see normally.
This record should be based on a percentage of goals and games played.
Go Ovie... Beat the record and we'll witness you go in history as hockey's Alexander the Great!
0:37 you called him the Great One? That's Gretzky lol. Ovi is the "Great 8"
He great scum😂
Gretzky is "The Great One"
Ovie is "The Gr8t one"
A lot of people also forget Ovie lost his entire rookie season to the 04 lockout. He would probably be 25, 30 goals closer to Gretzky at this point had he not lost that season.
He'd have a minimum 930 by now if not for the 2 lockouts and 2 Covid shortened seasons.
Before clicking on this video, I had a guess based on the title and game in question, looked it up, and it turned out not to be the "history" in question. So here's a fun fact for you: with this performance, Alex Ovechkin has now scored in more games than any other player in NHL history, passing Wayne Gretzky, who did so in 638 regular-season NHL games.
I like your content better than the title of your content
Caps need to sign a good play maker in the off season for OVI, he shouldn't have 4 less assists than the teams assist leader at his age.
I mean, our team has been in flux all season (thanks, Lav, you dumb asshole).
Next season we'll enter the season with a much clearer picture: Strome, CMM, and Lappy at center, whoever the depth chart falls, is much better than the numbers might make it seem. We had Backstrom - after a career-ending injury - in the top-6 for 8 games, Kuz was eating minutes that he didn't deserve... Lappy spent much of the season in the AHL; he's been on fire since his most recent call-up.
We finally have cap space (a TON of it) so we definitely can if we want to - we could definitely use 1 more legit top-6 F, although a winger makes more sense than center - but we need to address the defense first and foremost.
He hasn't been the same since his father passed.
Does the all time scoring record include post season goals or only regular season?
Only regular season goals.
He should have been at least 30 and probably more again this year. No idea what happened to him.
Most likely some injury related issues. He also missed 3 games to an unknown injury before the ASB.
Age happened, and it isn't going anywhere
@HD-um6yw yeah, that's why he still has a respectable 20 goals this season, but he isn't reaching those highs again
@@kailynx2295 No reason why he can't hit 30+ if healthy next season. He will need about 45 goals or so after this season to beat Gretzky. 2 more seasons left on his contract after this year. It's all about staying healthy for him to beat the record now.
1 - Personal issues: his dad died
2 - Team in flux: Backstrom suffered a career-ending injury but wanted to try a comeback; Kuz lost his motivation; new coach and our old coach set us up to fail by not playing any up-and-coming young talent last season
We entered the season SUPER deep but that poses problems because you need to figure out who to play and where, and you need to figure out how to best construct your lineup to be the best team you can be now but also into the future, you want to develop and get better as the season goes along... Lav did NOTHING last season to help with any of that, constructing our lineup last season like he was trying to tank but also not develop anybody.
3 - The NHL stole 4-3--7 from Ovie this season; he actually SHOULD have 30-35--65 in 67 games but some of the shadiest calls have been made that have stolen goals, assists, points from Ovie and points from the Caps. (The goals against don't affect Ovie's totals but hurt the Caps' chances to miss the playoffs; the goals being washed out are just killer. No washed goal in NHL history was more egregiously bad than Ovie's GWG vs NSH, which was not only the weakest goalie INT I've seen in a LONG time - maybe ever? - but it didn't even happen until AFTER the goal... AND it wasn't even challenged, the NHL just illegally called down to tell the officials to wash it out.)
omg i'm so early W for ovi

I wonder if Brayden Pachal is related to Clayton Pachal. He was once the captain of the New Westminster Bruins junior hockey team back in the 1970's. He could well be because he's also from Saskatchewan.
Just to tell you cause I’m a caps fan. Let me explain Ovi’s season.
This season alone, he’s had his 2 longest goal droughts of his entire career ( 12 and 13 games ). Both came during the first half of the season.
In the first 42 games, he registered 8 goals (not very ovi)
On the bye week before all star weekend, ovi rode a camel and it gave him magical powers (I’m assuming).
Since the all star break, ovi has 13 goals in 21 games (around the .6 gpg average of his career).
Needless to say, ovi is back. Hopefully he can stay in shape to start next season, I could see him MAYBE getting 50 still. His one timer last night was 95.3 mph. He hasn’t lost his shot.
He must have been playing through an injury in the first half and also missed 3 games. He's moving much better and shooting harder after the ASB.
You forgot his 4 goals called back in like a month.
Ah man. Ofc the only videos that get made with the flames are pospisil running through guys and wolf getting lit up
I watched that game 😂
…and two more goals in yesterday's match. 🎉
If not for the lockout year he might already be 20-30 goals away this year
Mike Gartner scored 30 or more goals in 17 season including 15 consecutive seasons. He only failed to score more than 30 two times once in the lockout where he played 38 games, and in his final season when he played 60 and had wear and tear from long term injuries...
The only season Ovie didn't score 30 was the '20-'21 Covid-shortened season, when he scored 24 in 45 games; he was on pace for 38.
And *so far* this season, when he only technically has 26 thanks to 4 washed out goals, all of which were bad calls, 1 of which was the worst washed call of all-time.
He even scored 30 during the '12-'13 lockout when he only played 48 games!
Caption is kinda clickbait but good video
Always an * on any record that includes OT goals, not something 99 had an opportunity to do. You have to wonder what sort of numbers Mr. Gretzky puts up with OT.
46 to go... 12 games this season... he can do 6 more... with 40 goals left in next two seasons it is doable...
I love ovie and I have been talking about him passing Wayne, in goals, for several years, but I am also a die hard redwings fan and hope they start losing so we can not create history for most consecutive playoff misses in franchise history.
ya we get it. 19 seasons to score 20.
Bro you just called Ovi “The Great One” instead of “The Great Eight”. Might want to add a correction there
He dosnt retire till he breaks it
Tell me it’s tax season without telling me it’s tax season. You must be in accounting
I'm still SO FUCKING INCENSED that goals *against* the Caps stand all day - Giroux's offside, Provorov's 2x goalie INT, this one - yet all of our goals are inevitably overturned, including 4-3--7 for Ovie this season, none more egregious in NHL history than that awful, illegal overturning of Ovie's GWG vs NSH.
42 goals to hit 895
Shanahan being ahead of generational superstars like Gretzky and Lemieux is just wild. I know its all about longevity but still looks weird
Imagine if Ovi has 893 goals by the end of his contract (up to the end of 2025-26). He just needs 1 goal to tie the record and 2 goals to break it. Will he play another season to break it?
As fans, we'll be cursing if we don't see the record when he gets so close. As a fan, seeing Glenn Anderson finish his career with 498 goals really sucks. Why can't a team give him a few more games to reach 500?
And hes with 848 goals atm , considering how much time he lost during 04-05 and 12-13 lockouts + covid season .... he would be around 950 goals alrdy .
My math has him at 930 exactly.
I'm assuming "only" 40 as an 18-year-old rookie; that may be conservative, but 50 seems generous.
And I merely gave him 19 extra goals for the '12-'13 lockout, because that's what he scored in the KHL; since he scored at a higher goals-per-game pace in the NHL that season, I could see giving him a few more...
Wayne's point record is bigger then his goals record simply put you can take away all of Wayne's goals and he still has an all time points lead
True, but I doubt Wayne would be that successful in Ovi's era of tough hits and stellar goalies.
@@musicclassic5938 you obviously weren't alive when Wayne played lmao
