Good on the DJ for apologizing and good on Oilers fans for seemingly forgiving. Go get that cup for Canada, Oilers!
I didn't realize Edmonton fans were so soft. Dallas fans are honorable people and no song is owned by anyone. Had they known the meaning I'm sure it wouldn't have happened so relax.
I went to see my Red Sox play the Braves in Atlanta a few years back with a large number of Red Sox fans in attendance. At the bottom of the 8th to everyone's surprise here come Neil sing Sweet Caroline. "Hands Touchin' hands Reachin' out Touching me, touchin' you......" and just before "Sweet Caroline Oh OH OH, " the DJ cuts off the song. Now that's f'n cruel.
I’m a Canucks fan and everyone has stolen our hockey history by using playoff towels and having their own green guys stuff like that. I love that the Oilers have their own traditions, dont use playoff towels, and the traditions they have are meaningful.
Did he say 20th most popular team in the state?..wow thats kinda sad..thought it would be higher than that...america is too obsessed with college sports, they dont deserve to be in stanley cup with such a low interest in the sport, edmonton needs it more
Once again, as always with Sid, he's acting the moron. I'm a Canadian man who has been an Oilers fan since Wayne showed up around '79-'80. But let's be real Sid...there was absolutely no ill intent displayed here. So get over it!! Let's go Oilers in 7.
Edmontonian here. The DJ didn't know the backstory. Let's not rake the guy over the coals. As soon as he understood the significance he did the right thing and inspired others to do good.
Canucks fan here. Of coarse I knew of Joey from the glory days of the Oilers but I never knew anything about the song or why they played it so I can't see anyone from Dallas having a clue. They got all apologies so let it go. Go Oilers!
Imagine the eternal, irreparable hurt felt by me, you, and everyone else in Canada when we discovered that someone in Dallas could make the same kind of clumsy mistake that you, me and everyone else in Canada has made at some point in our lives.
"Sid reacts to Dallas Stars DJ mocking the Oilers with La Bamba." And people react to the headline by savaging Sid while not bothering to listen to what he actually said. What a world!
Regardless of any other wrong or flaw on the part of this DJ, his words were appropriate and contributed to a constructive, life-promoting response from Stars fans, so I think the entire human race can put a W at the bottom of the tally for everyone.
You left out important context - The DJ regularly plays opponents victory songs after Dallas wins. This was an unintended slight, and appears to have led to a beneficial response from the DJ and Stars fans. Oilers fans for their part seem accepting of the apology, they recognize and care about humans. They were accepting of Moss and poured their hearts out for Ben. Go Oilers!
Does anyone honestly believe that the DJ or the Dallas Stars organization would be that willfully classless? They obviously didn't realize the importance of the song to Edmonton, or the Oilers, and went on to take proper actions at redemption. This was like, a week ago too, why are you posting this garbage now? Are you really that desperate for relevance?
Hey Sid, dude, c'mon, give the DJ a break. This was an example of nothing, just an honest mistake. Can we, as Canadians, just get over ourselves when we get poked? Just a little?
Sid spent 90 per cent of his talking trying to set this up as an astonishing moral failure on the DJ's part and the Stars as well. Then he spills the most important information as an afterthought. Information which illustrates that his take on this is ridiculous. He cannot be taken as a serious sports journalist.
I've been an Oilers fan since birth, and I had nooo idea about this backstory. It's an interesting profile on that! But I'd honestly not think much of it that a DJ poked fun at it. If he clearly had no clue of the backstory, there's just not much to fault him for.
Sid, you said it yourself. The DJ "is dumb" and had no clue what the backstory was. So, what exactly was the point of this video? Just more virtue-signalling? Why are we trying so hard to be over-sensitive? For clicks? Good god, this stuff is becoming toxic.

Honest mistake, handled with class. Unlike Sid who is an establishment hack
Now that's f'n cruel.
so what story
I don’t think a DJ would have known. It’s LaBamba. It is exactly what he said it was… a Happy song. I may have played it after a win. Jeeze.
What an absolute drama queen...
Sid is packing on the LBS
What you don’t realize is that the Stars always play their opponent’s victory song when they win.
damnit Sid, you made me cry morning of game 7 against Florida. this was awesome, thanks Sid
Well played Sid, take a non story and make the Oilers look like fragile victims of nothing.
Edmontonian here. The DJ didn't know the backstory. Let's not rake the guy over the coals. As soon as he understood the significance he did the right thing and inspired others to do good.
Much respect, I hope everyone is playing La Bamba
Canucks fan here. Of coarse I knew of Joey from the glory days of the Oilers but I never knew anything about the song or why they played it so I can't see anyone from Dallas having a clue. They got all apologies so let it go. Go Oilers!
Get over yourself man.
Imagine the eternal, irreparable hurt felt by me, you, and everyone else in Canada when we discovered that someone in Dallas could make the same kind of clumsy mistake that you, me and everyone else in Canada has made at some point in our lives.
Made a mistake, owned up to it. The fans in Dallas showing pure class by donating to the cause. Everything is bigger in Texas, including their hearts!
"Sid reacts to Dallas Stars DJ mocking the Oilers with La Bamba."
And people react to the headline by savaging Sid while not bothering to listen to what he actually said. What a world!
Can we just move on already, the DJ made a mistake and he fixed it
Regardless of any other wrong or flaw on the part of this DJ, his words were appropriate and contributed to a constructive, life-promoting response from Stars fans, so I think the entire human race can put a W at the bottom of the tally for everyone.
I didn't know there was a back story to the song. Thanks for sharing. Is there a link to the site where I can donate?
You left out important context - The DJ regularly plays opponents victory songs after Dallas wins.
This was an unintended slight, and appears to have led to a beneficial response from the DJ and Stars fans.
Oilers fans for their part seem accepting of the apology, they recognize and care about humans. They were accepting of Moss and poured their hearts out for Ben.
Go Oilers!
Honest mistake. Story had a happy ending.
Sid wearing one of Don Cherry's old jackets.
Hey Sid, dude, c'mon, give the DJ a break. This was an example of nothing, just an honest mistake. Can we, as Canadians, just get over ourselves when we get poked? Just a little?
So we know the words pretty fuckin good
Sid spent 90 per cent of his talking trying to set this up as an astonishing moral failure on the DJ's part and the Stars as well. Then he spills the most important information as an afterthought. Information which illustrates that his take on this is ridiculous. He cannot be taken as a serious sports journalist.
Thanks Sid, as a leaf fan, i dont want anyone to ever win the cup. But now I'm rooting for the oilers!
It's an easy mistake when feelings get hyped up! But a real kind gesture to the little guy!
Dude just made a mistake and couldn’t have had any idea what the symbolism of the song was for the team and fans. I’m an Oilers fan and think it was a class move on his part to address his mistake at all, let alone apologize and raise a good chunk of coin for a great cause.
Sid’s clutching his pearls again. Get the fainting couch out.😆
I was expecting a full meltdown from sid.
I am glad once the Dallas DJ admitted he didn’t know the story people turned it into a positive.
Give the guy a break, he made a mistake.
Sid needs a few weeks off
Sid you made your point. It was an honest mistake from some unknown DJ in Texas. A vast majority of people had no clue with the significant meaning regarding “La Bamba.”Hopefully tonite that tune is played to signify an Oilers Cup appearance‼️
Felt good hearing La Bamba after Game 6!
