Lolol yea similar to those fully loaded luxury pickups that cost like 70k but still just look like a truck on the outside but this is a good car regardless and I really appreciate what it brings to the table. Thanks again my friend for watching
My fiancee bought me one today. Its such an amazing car and felt the most comfortable to drive out of all the cars we've owned. I've had a BMW z4, VW golf and a Nissan Dualis. This SUV is amazing, we have a baby and it's the perfect mum car. 😍
It's nice to see someone reviewing a Mazda who actually seems optimistic about the brand. I've seen too many big name reviewers on here lately requesting Mazdas only to nitpick them apart and just shit on them in the reviews. This review was the exact opposite of that. You listed both positives and negatives without dumping on Mazda as a whole, and as a Mazda fan, I appreciated that. I wish the more "popular" reviewers would take a page from your book.
Thanks so much my friend for stopping by I’m humbled by your kind words. I too am a huge fan of Mazda and what they are doing. It’s hard not to appreciate their progress and passion. I look forward to many of their new projects and I’m really happy you appreciate Mazda as well. Thanks again for watching
Just bought that exact model and trim package you tested , color and all. Drove it home which is an hour drive down WV roads and beat on it pretty good. I was extremely hesitant initially before test drive (wife wanted it so I agreed to look) and was going to stay domestic but after driving this , I will say it is a fantastic car and a shit ton of fun to drive for its size and I also fit in the 3rd row and I’m 6 foot 200 pounds so I would strongly recommend anyone in this market to check it out.
Wow that is awesome my friend massive congrats sir on your new purchase. Super happy that you like it and yes it really is practical. Thanks again for sharing sir, enjoy!
the manual actually says to use unleaded regular. You do NOT need premium in the car. If for some reason there is knock (pre-ignition) in the engine, the knock sensor will sense it and timing will be reduced to prevent damage to the engine.
@@MeynMotorGroup not might, it is. The ENGINEERS who design the engine along with the lawyers who create the warranty aren't going to lie to the end consumer about which octane rating to put into their vehicles. Yes cylinder temps run hotter with forced induction and gas is used as a cooking agent to control those temps. The higher the octane, the higher the resistance to predetonation. Knock sensors are on vehicles precisely to combat this problem. If predetonation occurs, than the timing will be retarded in order to protect the engine. However with this new engine design by Mazda, there are cooled exhaust gases going back into the engine via the EGR water/cooled assembly. So, the cylinder temps are not as high any more which actually negates putting in the higher octane.
In Canada the top vehicles being sold in 2019 were 1.Ford F-Series - 145,064 2.Ram Pickup - 96,673 3.Toyota RAV4 - 65,248 4.Honda Civic - 60,139 5.Honda CR-V - 55,859 6.GMC Sierra - 54,400 7.Chevrolet Silverado - 53,484 8.Toyota Corolla - 47,596 9.Ford Escape - 39,50310. I have owned my Honda Civic for 10 years and I have over 200,000 km on it and I have never had any issues with the vehicle. All I have done is basic maintenance. So I'd probably buy another Honda because of this and this is probably why its been the best selling sedan here for 2 decades. The Mazda3 Sport was voted car of the year in 2020 in Canada though. But cars are expensive so I could change brands or I could stick with one I know that works.
Thank you, Kevin. I really like the content, even if it’s more ordinary than a Lexus LS. I actually genuinely like Mazda’s products. Like you mentioned, they keep tweaking and improving their cars so that they impress even more. Minus the key I guess, this sounds like a very high-quality SUV. Nice driving shots, by the way.
Thanks again for stopping by on all of these vids. Yea I love the way they tweak their cars every year continuously making the products better. I appreciate the support my friend!
I have a 2019 touring trim partly because of this video so TY Kevin!! It is an amazing vehicle! Feels plush and looks sleek. Amazing product for the price. Bravo Mazda!
I'm in the market for a 3 row cross-over and have done extensive research on 25 models of them. The CX-9 is in my top 5 because it has such great features and value. It has almost the all the same features as the Kia Telluride, but in a better driving vehicle. Great review. I've looked at a lot of the other UA-cam car pundits and you did the best job describing how this car drives.
Hey Rob thanks so much for stopping by. Yes for me it is between this and the Telluride as well great choices and I know you would either. I really love the fit and finish of the Mazda! Thanks again for the kind words sir, glad you found value with this review!
If you enjoy driving, I would avoid the Highlander. It’s secure, but has far too much squat and dive to inspire enthusiastic driving. The CX-9 is on my shortlist to replace my Highlander (2018)
It's nice to hear that Mazda have listened to their customers and improved the sound isolation as they used to be not very good with it so well done there!
The CX-9 still looks good inside and out. I would love to see Mazda add some multicolored ambient lighting. As good as this one is, I'm interested to see what they will do for the next one. Hopefully the upcoming Skyactiv inline 6 cylinder will have some mild electrification technologies to help with the fuel efficiency.
I can’t wait for their inline 6! I will def be an early adopter for that. Yea I’m also curious on where they will go from here. I do know that Mazda is very Adamant about keeping the gasoline engine alive however, they are working hybrid tech as well
Probably one of the better reviews I've seen...after watching your video, I went ahead and leased the vehicle....hope your right on this one...lol never had a Mazda before.
Oh wow massive congrats my friend super humbled that you chose to lease one after watching my review. How are you liking it so far? I definitely think its a good blend of driveability, luxury, and practicality leasing is a good way to buy one of these too. Thanks again for sharing!
Exhaust Sports Auto will let you know how it is, they only deliver on Thursdays, so just waiting til then. :) I wanted the signature but didn’t want to lose a seat...so went with the GT...really good lease deals right now...actually kind of unreal...it was cheaper than an accord or Camry...
Ahh gotcha and yes Signature not really necessary you made a good choice with GT. Yes Toyota and Honda have been insane lately they charge through the roof for their cars and I hate that. It's funny because Mazda has a superior fit and finish as well as superior materials in their interiors
2012 cx9 gt touring nearing 190,000 miles. 12 mpg, rough ride, moon roof, driver seat motor burned, driver side motor kaput $600 replacement, rear latch broken. Engine, ac, excellent, all bulbs still working, replaced two headlights, fog and brakes never worked. Gps can't update the cd. This car has never stuck in snow or deep water. Bose is awesome.
Is anyone else apprehensive about buying a turbocharged engine, especially a small 4 cyl powering larger SUVs? It seems like car manufacturers rushed these engines to the market to meet EPA requirements. Most of them seem to be new, unproven designs.
So I was recommended this video from UA-cam because I just bought my wife a 2020 cx-9. I've been searching videos on it a bunch. Can't help but to notice the California license plate on the car. But then I started paying closer attention to the surrounding areas in your video. I'd be willing to bet that this was filmed around the Raleigh/Garner, NC area??
Haha close my friend, Cary NC. This vehicle was a press car that the manufacturer gave me for a week which is why it has California number plates. Massive congrats on your new purchase really is an incredible SUV. Thank you again for stopping by as well and watching this review! I’m assuming you must be local to the area since you were able to figure out the location so well, thanks again Brent
Good review. You compared it at least twice to other vehicles but you didn’t really mention those . You use the Audi as a bench mark but didn’t really say what it was better than
Hey thank you my friend so with aggressive city driving I was seeing around 19 mpg I believe I'm sure you could squeeze into the 20s if you drive more mellow
Really a great review. I got a great deal on a 19 cx9 gt in the color options I wanted w that should red metallic. Car is really elegant and drives like a sports car. Still learning the vehicle in the 2 weeks I’ve owned it, but would love to add an only gripe I had with it and that’s the remote start feature they should have thrown in. I mean you get so much anyway as far as features compared to a Honda Pilot and grand Cherokee limited I was contemplating buying, but remote start would be a nice add on. Have to get a trailer hitch now for my bikes when the weather gets better.
Hey thanks so much my friend and I appreciate you watching. Yea a few Mazda buyers have complained about the lack of remote start. Congrats on your new purchase tho it really is a stunning ride and an enjoyable one too!
Exhaust Sports Auto tyvm. Appreciate that. I plan to get a module installed soon that will enable me to have the feature w the factory fobs. If you have t done so previous maybe you can do a video on differences between the grand touring cx9 and signature! Would be great.
Thanks Kevin. I was so so on this review. Maybe as Iam not in the market for this vehicle cx9 is under very tough competition with the likes of the new Telluride, Highlander, Pilot.
Yes! I def agree there are so many choices in the segment and all are good too. I feel like every one of them has something different to offer in the segment. Thanks again for stopping by my friend, I always appreciate your support
@@kdomster9141 Nor will it have the reliability of a Mazda. It's completely made in Japan. Also the best looking in it's class. The telluride will not keep it's looks as well as the Mazda. The Mazda we know today is over 4 yrs old and still looks as fresh as the day it was first introduced in 2016. It's a classic look that will remain a looker for some time.
Do you feel vibration on gas paddle while driving this car? I have Mazda CX-9 2020 and I feel vibration on gas paddle and floor. Which is more prominent on idle. I took the car to service Center and they said it’s normal and characteristic of this car. I am not happy driving this car.
I personally didn't because this was a brand new press car with only 500 miles on it, I have only driven brand new CX-9s, how many miles does your CX-9 have? I definitely don't think it is normal. Consider getting the motor mounts checked
@@MeynMotorGroup it has 18000 miles only. It’s under warranty. I left the car for 3 days in Mazda service Center.... they said there is no issue with the car and this vibration is normal..l’ll probably visit service Center again.
Has always been a under appreciated vehicle. But now that the TeluRide, Palisade, and now GV80, Mazda needs to go back and start updating this. If you can get this on sale it's a steal. Gorgeous in Signature trim and you really owe it yourself to go look at one. But the Camera's are out of date, the tablet screen out of date, just a bunch of tech missing in this price range that the Koreans are doing better right now. I think the Kudo design looks best on this one though
You make some good points Steve for sure. Yea I love the Telluride def one of my most favorite SUV in the class. I think the Mazda still has a nice sense of solidity and finish to the cabin tho that not many in this class not even Koreans have been able to capture. All the vehicles in this class bring something special to the table but yea Korea is certainly crushing it tho
I am now in the market for a vehicle in this class. As a Mazda fan, the CX9 is my choice everyday. Unfortunately though, I can't get the wife on board. She really likes the 4 Runner and Tell U Ride. I have a hard time paying the high preowned price for a 4 Runner, and the Tell U Rides are extremely hard to find preowned at the moment. Not only that, but since they are still kind of new, it defeats my car buying philosophy of buying 2-3 years old low mileage vehicles. So far looking at the MDX, CX9, 4 Runner, Palisade, Pilot, and Tell U Ride. The Tell U Ride and Palisade would have to be base models though I think if buying new. The real dilemma.
Yea I totally understand your situation I will say the good thing about the 4Runner is excellent resale value probably the best amongst the cars you mentioned. Acura has a great CPO program but They do come with problems. Pilot is an amazing choice with that V6 but Mazda does feel special and luxurious. Telluride and this CX-9 are one of my most favorites out of the bunch
@@devongee1776 Oh yeah, the Highlander was one also, as I feel it has more ameneties and value compared to the 4Runner SR5 or SR5 Premium. The Expedition is too large and way too thirsty.
@@MeynMotorGroup Mine too by far, just wish the Tell U Ride wasn't quite as popular. Crazy how fast they became that way. Wish Mazda could find that kind of sales success. They truly deserve it.
Hey thanks so much my friend for stopping by and yes I do know what you are referring too haha. The new like traction control system for "rough" terrain driving. Not sure how many CX-9 owners would use it but yes that was added for 2020 as well. Thank you again for watching!
"Mazda lack of space my ass" we managed to fit a family of 6 footers (most of them) into one of these 7 people + luggage in! Wonder if people did ever try to roll the 2nd row foward, hell I could use the 3rd myself and I'm 6'4! the rear climate was a really cool feature My only complain is that the second row's recline foremost position was literal "gangsta" lean. a more normal position would ad been nice But yeah a do it all if you ask me lol
Tell em’! People need to hear this. You gotta hear what some of these people are saying about Mazda and how it doesn’t ride well or have space like are they even driving the same car
@@MeynMotorGroup not to mention a fantastic improvement to the last gen inside out. That one felt like a oversized station wagon and looked like a Mazda 6 estate on donk and dubs. Easily the best in class tied with the telluride
I’m more excited for the Inline 6 RWD car they have planned haha. Skyactive X got released in Europe only made like 180 hp there from what I understand they want a gasoline engine to behave like a diesel without spark plugs sounds good in theory I suppose
Nice review. I recently purchased the CX9 to drive it as a five passenger vehicle because I think the third row is useless. In fact, I think the third row is useless in MOST midsize suvs and wish car manufacturers would go back to two rows in the midsize arena.
Thank you my friend and yes that's smart, I do think the third row is useful I can fit in the third row but the problem is when you have it up, you dramatically reduce the rear trunk space which sort of defeats the purpose so now you're only left with insane vehicles like Suburbans where you can use the third row and the trunk. But I find the CX9 far more refined than the CX5 so I'm glad you're using it as a large 2 row
Hey Kevin, my major complaint with the Mazda 9 is that the engine's too small & only has 6 gears. Watched a review on the 2020 Chevy Traverse (Country Edition) & that thing had a V-6 310 HP. I feel like that 2.5 is perfect for the CX-5 but inadequate for the CX-9, especially when you're loading it up with crew & cargo. Also you mentioned that the MPGs suck & that of course leads back to it being to heavy for that small engine i'm guessing! Perhaps I would buy a used one if there was just 3 or 4 in my family & we used to go out to dinner or to the movies, but if I were a soccer mom or a skier I would have to pass it up & go visit a Chevy or Ford dealerships instead. As far as the looks are concerned I have no problem there & the driving experience, it seems to hold its own I guess (although I have never driven one, every reviewer that i've watched commented that they are fun to drive), but my philosophy & hence advice to Mazda is "Go Big or go Home!!!
Hey Greg thanks again for stopping by! I hear ya and yea none of the cars in this category feels like a rocket and much like the Telluride or the Traverse, they use NA engines so they will lack the torque off the line but builds power nicely. This may scoot off the line a bit better but won’t have the top end power like the V6s you mentioned. Really personal preference I suppose but the downside to all these cars is the gas mileage for sure. Lot of competition in this space and every manufacturer is trying to fill in a gap somehow it seems haha. I would say there really isn’t a bad car that exists today every car kind of brings something different to the table but I too have not driven everything. Thanks again for watching my friend!
This no longer applies. That Traverse engine makes significantly less torque than mazdas 2.5t. Not to mention that Ford as well follows this as their 3.5v6 is the premium engine on the f150 and the V8 is a mid tear motor. Displacement is no longer king.
Well he was referring to HP but yes you’re right displacement is irrelevant...kind of but for the most part irrelevant. The thing I notice with the corporate GM motors like their V6s is they really don’t pull as hard as the numbers suggest. My favorite GM cars are their performance cars and their trucks/Tahoe type vehicles
It's crazy they haven't updated this. Really takes away from and otherwise gorgeous car. Utility is quite awful here though which defeats the purpose of this type of vehicle. Oh well
Really? I found this to be about as usable as a Telluride and thats a huge vehicle. I fit in all 3 rows but yes you def have to have the third row down to have a decent trunk but All these third rows other than suburbans are kinda like that. Highlander might be the biggest in this segment

Yes! I def agree there are so many choices in the segment and all are good too. I feel like every one of them has something different to offer in the segment. Thanks again for stopping by my friend, I always appreciate your support

Nor will it have the reliability of a Mazda. It's completely made in Japan. Also the best looking in it's class. The telluride will not keep it's looks as well as the Mazda. The Mazda we know today is over 4 yrs old and still looks as fresh as the day it was first introduced in 2016. It's a classic look that will remain a looker for some time.
So this comes only with the 2.5 turbo engine?
That is correct
How does it compare to a Lexus SUV?
Yea and try another dealership as well, Mazda corporate can be a last resort
What's the size of the screen? Did they increase the size?
It is an 8 inch screen. Sport models or more base models get a 7 inch screen
It's probably just too small lol. Try showing the wife a used Expedition or Highlander if you can't do Telluride.
@@devongee1776
Oh yeah, the Highlander was one also, as I feel it has more ameneties and value compared to the 4Runner SR5 or SR5 Premium. The Expedition is too large and way too thirsty.
@@MeynMotorGroup
Mine too by far, just wish the Tell U Ride wasn't quite as popular. Crazy how fast they became that way. Wish Mazda could find that kind of sales success. They truly deserve it.
Yea man the Telluride is kind of a rip off rn because some dealers are even marking them up due to demand
Great review,,,And don’t forget the all new updated 4x4 feature 👌🏼‼️
Hey thanks so much my friend for stopping by and yes I do know what you are referring too haha. The new like traction control system for "rough" terrain driving. Not sure how many CX-9 owners would use it but yes that was added for 2020 as well. Thank you again for watching!
"Mazda lack of space my ass" we managed to fit a family of 6 footers (most of them) into one of these 7 people + luggage in!
Wonder if people did ever try to roll the 2nd row foward, hell I could use the 3rd myself and I'm 6'4!
the rear climate was a really cool feature
My only complain is that the second row's recline foremost position was literal "gangsta" lean. a more normal position would ad been nice
But yeah a do it all if you ask me lol
Agreed, yes no question these are now luxury cars now essentially when it comes to interiors.
Please bring the Skyactiv X to the United States.
I’m more excited for the Inline 6 RWD car they have planned haha. Skyactive X got released in Europe only made like 180 hp there from what I understand they want a gasoline engine to behave like a diesel without spark plugs sounds good in theory I suppose
Subbed. You got me on 'douche factor'.
Haha glad you liked that my friend and thanks so much for your support
So because I have three + kids I should be forced to buy a mini van?
Nice interior tbh, very family friendly with the peasant blockers lol
I guess in this, it would be baby sun blockers haha but either way, yes very nicer interior space for sure. Thank again Anthony for stopping by
Say "dude" one more time...
What’s up dude

No V6....NO SALE!

Thanks for stopping by!
If I had $0.05 for every time this dude said “actually,” I could buy 3 CX-9’s. Otherwise, pretty decent review.
I do have to use the English language at some point to convey my messages and opinions about the product in question
Nice car. But driver should wear his seatbelt...
