I got a 2020 Mazda CX-30 as my first own car. Drives like a dream and it’s sleeper luxury.
I have the same car and I couldn’t love it more! Best car I ever owned.
I have one too. I'm glad they put a slightly bigger tank in newer models, the 2020 has a bird stomach
Rented a cx-30 & bought a cx-9 I love Mazdas
Mazda's separation from Ford has brought massive product improvements!
The base cx-90 starts like 2k over the base cx-9. Both base models come equipped more than Honda and Toyotas.
At that price point you can buy a Lexus
Did you know your last name means “Rabbit-like” in the Polish language? 😂
@@jaycho6747you can say that about the Toyota highlander and Honda pilot 🤷♂️.
@Jay Cho yeah a shitty tiny Lexus with no features?
@@jaycho6747 the Mazda CX-90 is actually nicer than a Lexus and comes with a turbo straight 6 cylinder while Toyota/Lexus is replacing their 6 cylinder with a 4 cylinder turbo
My 626 from 91 is still going strong, never has it been any problem with it,32 yrs old🙂All my Mazdas has been flawless. More sceptic to my rav4..time will show.
2.2 liter?
@scottykilmer this is our Mazda and I was happy the codes did not amount to much. I have the new wheel bearing/hub and ready to install. It isn’t that hard to do if you have the right tools. My boys still can’t believe they met you!
Is the cx-9 2017 reliable?
@@r.k862 this was our CX-9 in the video. About 6 months after the video the engine failed. There is a technical bulletin for it and can cause catastrophic failure without notice. The ford engines they used in this era are garbage. We purchased a Toyota Highlander soon after.
@@mikemill8270 thanks for letting me know. I seen people's comments on here suggesting that problems are with the cx9 upto year about 2022 that's when the engines are different. Is this true?
@@r.k862 yes, later models fixed the issue with the strain from the turbo. We ended up selling the car to my in-laws who then replaced the engine and transmission from a low mileage used engine from a newer CX-9. There were no issues that I’m aware of with the engine swap
@@mikemill8270 thank you so much, I really appreciate all your help
Wife has a 2016 CX-3. 50,000 miles. No problems with anything ever. Love that car, corners very well, lots of get up and go without a turbo.
We just bought a new 2023 CX-9 Touring Plus. Got it at invoice price. Liking it so far. I figure it's a pretty well sorted platform at this maturity. Good to see this first year CX-9 with 130k plus miles on it still going strong.
Same here, what was invoice price?
@@zachpowell85 I don't have my paperwork in front of me, but it was somewhere in the 39K range. MSRP was 42K. 2,500 miles on the car so far, and the wife is loving it.
I absolutely LOVE my 2021 CX-9 Grand Touring. 22k miles on it. Takes off like a rocket, super classy interior and exterior as well.
P0126 code for the thermostat. It's a $400.00 part. A known problem of which the car dealers don't want to mess with. I have a 2019 CX-5 2.5 liter non turbo. The warranty is terrible. Other than that, it's a good car. Buying parts is expensive. Word of advice- Don't give any customer experience surveys if bought new from a dealership. They kept pressuring me to complete it quickly. I did, and things started going wrong with car, like reflectors falling off the vehicle. Then it's crickets out of these people. I have a small shop at home to do the repairs. I have a 2007 Ford Fusion with 330 thousand miles. A rebuilt transmission at 180 thousand miles. It cost me 3500 to fix, but I've got another 150 thousand miles out of it so far. Now thats money well spent. I just repair it and keep going.
Just rolled over 100k with a 2018 Fusion SE 1.5 Ecoboost. Regular oil changes and just did coolant flush, trans fluid, spark plugs, 4 wheel brake job new tires. Still running great. Need a detail job to clean it up. wife's driver
mazda tech here, i’ve replaced that part under warranty several times, as have my coworkers.
@@LeavingCaladan Agreed. The coolant thermostat on my 2.5L NA Skyactiv-G was replaced under powertrain warranty with absolutely zero hassle.
@@michaelchimenti4989 glad to hear that!
You're happy to spend 3500 bucks at 180,000 miles for a tranny. You need to see a medical specialist. How about 250,000 and not spent a dime!
The first generation CX9 used many Ford drive train parts...reliable up to about 150k miles. This second gen is all Mazda, and a much better vehicle.
From which year does the quality improve of the cx9?
Just got a 2020 signature for less than half sticker. 20k miles original owner. Couldnt be happier.
CPO?
The new CX-90 has a 3.3L inline 6 cylinder turbo engine! Excited to try it out
Not a turbo fan but you had me at inline 6!!!
In-line 6 turbo sounds lovely.
Same, the way I see it, more moving parts=more failure points
Probably bad gas mileage.
Just put a whistle on your exhaust tip.
Bought a 2021 cx9 because of this video. It's replacing my bulletproof '16 cx5.
SUV’s are just glorified but less practical station wagons for people obsessed with keeping up appearances.
Raised station wagons with space!
Crossovers really AREN’T, in my opinion, SUVs because they’re invariably built unibody, not on a truck frame. Don’t get me wrong, they’re handy, I drive a Mazda CX-5, but I’m very resistant about calling it a “truck” or an “SUV”. It really has more in common with my Ford Escort station wagon from the 90s than any truck!!
We need Scotty to shut down all Electric vehicle productions brutally 😂😂😂😂
@@harveyhankerson8359 Yeah I agree 😉
My wife and I test drove the new CX-90 with the inline 6 turbo and hybrid boost. Amazing vehicle absolutely loved it until I saw the $52K sticker price. Even worse, her car was there for service and they wanted $2400 for a new headlight assembly with ballast and bulb on a 2013 mazda 3... They wanted $243 for just a D2S bulb...
All vehicles are expensive. Have you seen the price on a new Highlander or Grand Highlander? It's almost the same and it's no where near as luxurious or sporty as the Mazda. Worst of all, you're paying that kind of money for a 4 cylinder 🤮
You probably have LED/HID headlights. That price is normal for that kind of headlight type… I do agree that the cost for parts have gone up over the years and will get worse with newer technology
That's the Mazda advantage. $2400 for that is robbery.
Msrp is supposed to be like 43k for base model. Unless you got higher models or were charged insanely over msrp.
Unless it's an HID bulb that broke, you need to go to a different Mazda dealer because that one is trying to pull a fast one on ya.
If Scotty ever comes to Florida I want him to review my car. I never seen any Infiniti coupes/sedans reviewed in the channel
Again the automatic failure and the warranty not covering it. Well, another good reason to go for the manual transmission. And save on gas, too.
I've had decent luck finding lightbulb parts on Rockauto too
I had a mazdaspeed 3 and it was the biggest pos i ever owned!! In the shop like a jaguar
The last mazdaspeed 3 was produced under Ford which at the time also owned Jaguar. So you could imagine why they split ties in 2012.
"Bumpy RI road" )))I live in Providence, Rhode Island
Mazda's BEST vehicle was the MPV, I had a 1989 Mazda MPV, which I bought from my Mom who bought it brand new in 1989 with my late Dad, that finally wouldn't pass state inspection in N.H. due to the crappy solutions they use for road ice, rusting the frame. It had no issues on the Kentucky roads. Aside from the usual normal items that need to be replaced once in a while, tires, wiper blades, hoses and belts, it had no mechanical issues whatsoever.
My cousin had a Mazda in high school and she loved it!😂
You know what America got out of Diesal Gate?...."Electrify America" plug in stations....and they don't work!.Thanks Government
I've got 3 Toyotas and a Lexus, but if I was looking for another car, I'd consider a Mazda... Here in Thailand, they are every other car on the road...😆😆😆😆
Even you can only drive one car at once... jesus can drive 5 at once and make coca cola into wine and then change it back again if he gets stopped

I used to like Toyota, even before I discovered Scotty. Owned a '08 Scion tC sold @ 135K miles.
Mazdas have been innovative and at the same time pretty to look at for decades, continuing to improve and now Toyotas have had relatively more problems than ever before, and just look ugly.
I have a Mazda3 and CX-5 both 2015. CX-5 is @ 97K miles and runs and runs just as smooth as the 3 with 51K!
I will only own Mazdas from now on if given the choice.

I wanted CX9 in past but Mazda was too expensive compared to Toyota. Also turbocharged and high octane gasoline makes even more spending overtime.

MAZDA great quality and luxury for the price...
Mazda is not going anywhere Scotty, stop being an alarmist..
What year was this CX-9?
Cant buy a small basic car anymore.
Nissan Versa with the manual transmission.
What year is this CX9?
From just the front fascia I'd guess 2017/18.
It also has the infotainment up top which I think they did away with around 2018.
Mazda is moving up in quality and value . It is even better than Toyota .
Uh, no.
I wonder how many miles you can get out at 2.5
160k right now but no turbo though. I've seen several with 200k+ for sale

I have the money to buy a new vehicle.. BUT.. EVERYTHING IS CARP.. 😅 🐟🐠🐟🐠🐟
Did you know it's a Ford motor , my 2010 Mazda 6 , 6 years 180000 brakes tires and battery that was it
It's absolutely NOT a Ford motor. Mazda thankfully ended their partnership with Ford in 2015.

Mazda had such a massive jump in quality when they separated from Ford. It was really fast, too. WIthin one generation they were better than they ever were before.
Ford had influence but some purely Mazda only vehicles were junk too. Mazda also made junk turbo 4cyls on their own back then.
@@302Mustang13 in Ford partnership

@@amandeepbaa6978 No. The partnership was Ford supplied V6s to Mazda while Mazda supplied 4cyls to Ford. Those turbo 4 Mazda engines are all Mazda doing.
Later around 2016 or 17, Toyota bought a significant portion & stayed sharing tech. Mazda has only seemed to improve from there, as might be expected. A 17 Yaris iA, however, is simply a Toyota badged Mazda 2.
Every auto maker is shutting down and bankrupt according to Scotty.

I figured this would be Scotty's commentary on Mazda going upscale. I think it's a stupid move - there are plenty of luxury car makes out there: but Mazda was the best driving value prop with plenty of luxury / features for most.
They're not aiming for luxury. They're aiming for in between luxury and normal which is smart as many companies don't offer anything similar.
Yeah, I think Hyundai is going to kill them.
Mazda is a niche product, so having a near-luxury product is an angle that will make more money, as long as they continue to sell cars. Making Mazdas that are just variations of Subarus or Toyotas does nothing to set them apart. The upmarket push is probably smart. The CX-5 we own is much nicer than what you get at Honda for the same money, even if the Honda has more room and higher mpg. The CX-90 is a step up when you look at competitors.
@@tristana.8304
They are lusting after greater margins - it's nothing more than a cynical cash grab.
I believe "in between luxury and normal" is the needle that Mazda has successfully threaded the last 10 years.
Their strategy worked -- sales have increased YoY along with market share. They're tweaking it by trying to go more 'upscale'. They've stated so much and their latest lineup proves it.
Ngl a Mazda equivalent to compete against Acura TLX, Infiniti Q50, Lexus IS would be sweet
Mazdas already have great interiors to compete against luxury cars, they just need to meet the performance

Going on six months ownership of my 2023 CX50! So far it’s a very solid car!👍🏻👍🏻
they are great!
If they are like the CX5, they're well made and high quality.
Just too cramped inside and low on mpg compared to CRVs and RAV 4s.
Turbo or naturally aspirated?
Any issues with build quality, like large panel gaps? I like my Japanese cars made in Japan.
@Anthony B they are made in Japan and no, build quality issues on the CX-5. Build quality is better than my Highlander.
Just don't buy a CX5,CX3,CX9 diesel, the engines are junk. Something to do with oil cooler, head gaskets. Basically terminal.
We were seriously considering buying a used CX-9 until I started to read a lot of posts about there being a cracking head/antifreeze issue. Anyone have any idea how common the problem is? It is a $6k+ repair, sometimes just opting to replace the entire engine.
This was only a relatively rare issue on the first year 2016, and some 2017 model years. Get a 2018 and up, and these cars are super reliable.
@@truthserum5310 That was my conclusions as well, 2018 and up have torque vectoring as well. 2019 added new off road button for all time AWD in snow, etc. There are good deals to be had on the 23' still.
If it were me, I'd just avoid the CX-9 completely.
