My wife has a 2016 Prius and I didn’t even know there was a hybrid battery air filter until I saw your video. I took the cover off and yes the filter is dirty with lots of dog hair in it. Thanks for posting.
Great video. Just changed mine at 50k miles and it was fairly dirty. I wouldn't wait for a warning light. Just do it every 50k depending on how dirty your environment is.
Yes, when I purchased my baby Prius, I did a full inspection of the vehicle to learn where all the filters are located. And this one the Dealership will rarely mention. Whenever I replace my cabin air filter, I have the dealer pull this filter, I inspect it and usually have them "wash" it off and put it back in. I replace it every 100k miles, which is probably excessive. And in all honesty, I think more damage has been caused to the vehicle by the technician fumbling with the tool to unlock the little door to pull the "dirty" filter and scratching the surrounding plastic filter than driving with a "dirty" cooling filter... Almost at 300k miles and I plan to drive this Prius until she hits 1 million miles. (I've also noticed that keeping a clean car really helps reduce the frequency of air filter changes. Good luck with the kids and I hope they enjoy riding in the back with Mom and Dad, singing their favorite tunes! The memories ya'll generate are worth more than anything on earth.)
Keep interior clean as cool is the most important thing to do, driving with ac and windows shut also helps. Regular change of pollen filter and battery filter. This gen 4 it’s much better than gen 3 to service.
for my 2016 prius c, the filter is behind the driver's side, and it is just a screen that looked like a dryer screen after use(I think). shop vacuumed it and the notification went away! thanks so much!!!
This has been a very helpful, video, thank you, and I read all the comments so I saw that you said the error code went away on its own after a few hours of driving. Thank you so much for posting this video and answering comments.
You can modify the cooling system with obdlink for better battery performance(it will work more the fan obviously) and if you manage to make a better cooling system you can get ton of hp! Is what they are doing in Lexus or better new models Toyota.
I have a 2016 Prius C. It just has a mesh like a bug screen. It forms a lindt layer just like a drier lindt trap you have to peel off every few months.
My 2016 Prius gets new engine and cabin air filters fairly regularly. I wasn't aware of the hybrid cooling system fan filter, the warning message appeared at just under 109,000 miles. Just ordered one from the dealer. If the message doesn't clear automatically I'm told a code reader may be needed to reset the warning, or just disconnect your 12V battery (under the hood) for 15 minutes to clear the code. With other vehicles battery disconnection for these purposes might also lose other settings, including stored radio stations.
Hey great video but how do we reset the warning light After changing the hybrid fan filter??? I changed all three filters but can't turn off system warning notification?
@@brutusdior1550is this what you had to end up doing? Is there no way to reset it within the car menus? Or can it just go away on its own after replacing the filters?
Hi my friend i Toyota prius hybrid 2016 my front water screen not come out very weak and all the water come out next to front passenger tyers please do you have any idea about this can you answer to me please thanks
Don't wait for the car to remind you to clean the traction battery air filter. Check it once a year. Air Filter "scientifically test" by most independent garage tech is to hold the filter up to the sun. Can't see the sun through it means it time to replace it with an OEM that you bought from the dealers parts department. Same for transmission oil. Stock up with OEM transmission fluid and OEM oil filters from the dealers parts department.Give it to the Indy tech when you want the engine oil or transmission oil replaced. Get full systematic Castrol or Penzoil in five (5) quart jugs from Walmart. Suggest you go looking for another traction battery filter when you pick the back seat up. Might be on. the top of the air ducting not far from the battery air inlet grill. The Toyota Camry Highbred's have this kind of set up. They don't have a filter over the fan. and to get at it or the fan you have to pull up the back seat to get at.them. Caution: : The traction battery is also under the rear set although it has a cover, None the less contact with it or the cabel connectors should be avoided. The dealer may quote $700 to clean the the filter and the vanes on the squirrel cage air flow suction fan. A 20-min job.
@@lbrmbla I just banged it out and the pivot fell somewhere.. you really don't need a screw in because the housing snaps in tightly.. so don't be afraid to break it off.

Yes, as soon as I cleaned and/or replaced the filter, the code went away. If you replace the filter and the code keeps coming up after a couple days, I would take it in and have the dealership look at it. Best of luck
So my problem is that I can't get the screw out. It just goes around and around. Car has 52 k and I know the filter has never been replaced. Any help? I don't want to force it and break anything.
It is my understanding that with the filter in place you will not need to clean the fan. Earlier Prii required "service" to clean the fan because those did not have a filter.
I purchased mine at the dealership for about $25. At first I carefully cleaned it and that took away the warning code. But after a few days I went to the dealership and purchased a new one.
Hi bro..just wanna know if you were getting the warning on your dashboard prior to cleaning the cooling fan? And after cleaning it up, the message disappeared?
He says in the description area that the message cleared itself after a few days.. likely after the hybrid battery charged back up with proper cooling. So no reset procedure. It should go away on it’s own. If it comes back AFTER the message initially clears... get the hybrid cooling system looked at again as it’s likely the filter helped but did not resolve it.

My screw turns but won't come out, any tips?
FYI for anyone else that sees this: use your fingernail to hold the ring around the screw in place while turning the head

The plastic screw will not come out.. looks like a little silver pivot in the center does that need to be pushed in with a special tool ?
If it’s the screw that he showed, I had to hold the washer that surrounds the screw with my nail I unscrewed with the other hand

Does anyone know the part number of this filter?
G92dh-47070
Thanks for the info. How did you get the warning on the dashboard removed? Was it done by the dealer? Thank you...
Yes if anyone has an answer for this, I would really like to know. Does it go away on its own?
Mine was so gross, it looked like the filter from my dryer! I have a Prius C and my light just came on 85900
Same car and year. 75xxx miles

Mine did the same thing. I used a plastic prying tool and gently pulled the cover off after I loosened the plastic screw. Hope this helps.
I had to hold the little washer that surrounds the screw with my fingernail as I unscrewed with a screwdriver in my other hand
Doing that did it help fix the problem for the battery bar to boost back up ? And clear the maintenance on the dash ?
The 12v car battery that you have in your prius. which one is it ?
I still have the original battery from the factory. Not sure exactly what it is

Have you found a place to purchase the replacement filter for the battery fan?
I'm at Auto Zone dont think they have it

Yea i paid 15 bucks plus tax your best bet is the Toyota dealer bkuz i couldn't find it any where
