We currently have 78k miles on the car and hope to keep it for a long time to come. We have followed the Toyota maintenance schedules religiously and have had only minor issues.

It doesnt, they started installing them in late 2012. Add the clip on one. It is a good idea to clean the ductwork and fan. It will add many, many miles to the life of the battery as I understand it.
Thanks! You saved me lots of time. I was going to take the seat out. I just pulled the cover up and leaned it over as you suggested. I did not take the original filter out. The hose to my regular vacuum was to big to fit in. I rigid a narrow wand of about 1 inch X 1/2 inch X 10 inches long. As with all such projects, duct tape may come in handy. I vacuumed it clean and snapped the cover back. I can do this in less than 10 minutes in the future. I love all your videos.
Just cleaned my battery cooler fan, and saw your video. I had no filter on my vent at all, so I ordered the one you recommended, to put on the outside. Thanks for the video.
Having viewed your excellent video I ordered the external filter. My car is a 2013 Plug-in Prius ( UK Spec) the car is low mileage 30k miles. Removal of trim was dead easy following your instructions. Surprise, surprise there was no filter in position. The plenum duct was exceedingly clean, spotless, the rear seats have never been used ,I assume the fans must be relatively clean too. So easily replaced trim and snapped in new filter. The whole exercise took less than 5 minutes. - Many thanks for your videos. !
Thanks very much for this video! When driving home just now, I got a message saying the battery cooling performance was low. I pulled out this filter, to find it was quite thoroughly clogged. After changing it, the message has not cleared. I am going to take it for one or two more drives, to see if it eventually goes away on its own. I even tried using the method for clearing the maintenance messages, which had worked before when I got a message about the hybrid system (after the engine air filter compartment was not closed properly) , and it worked then.
Thanks so much for teaching me about caring for my 2013 Prius. I bought it last NYE and have had no problems, but I had no idea it was so important to clean those filters. Could you please give me your opinion on the little device being advertised as a trouble-shooter that's called FIXD?
I have a 2015 Prius. It took some effort to pull that filter housing up and away...but I vacuumed it out with my brush attachment. I will be ordering that part online as the dealers closeby did not have that on hand. Thanks
There is a bolt holding it down. That’s why you only pull it slightly out and not out all the way just enough to remove the filter. You can pull the seat bottom out then remove the bolt if you want to completely remove it

Cheaper than I saw it for on eBay. Thanks for the info. I have no idea if mine has a filter but I guess I'll find out when I get around to checking out the fan. Given the importance of the information you’ve conveyed, why isn’t maintenance of these filters done by Toyota? I’d literally just got my car back from a maintenance service and on basis of this video, checked my filter which, while not clogged, was very dirty. I cleaned it, but am amazed Toyota didn’t!
PTL! thank you brother. I don't have time to order and install a new filter as we're leaving on a trip in the morning. However I was able to reach the older filter (which was really dirty) and vac it clean. Hoping this is ok until we get back in a few days.
2013 Prius V with 91k miles. I recently inspected and cleaned the intake to the HV cooling system (under the rear seat) and found it and the squirrel cage blower remarkably clean and free from any debris. I did not see any filter, but discovered from the comments here that it did not come with a filter. After doing a factory recall on the car, the dealer says that the "HV fan vent is clogged with debris and is missing filter" and recommended a $375 "HV fan service and filter replacement." I suspect they did not really inspect the air intake - a reason I avoid this dealership. Question: should I go to the trouble of replacing the interior trim with a piece accepting a filter? If I recall correctly, the air actually comes from beneath the seat. Thanks for you delightful videos!
Hi@@TheCarCareNut! I also have a 2013 Prius V and it seems like they have a filter part number G92DH-47090 starting with the 2014 model. Knowing the main dealer prices were expensive, I told them to just do the service. This was 18 months a go. Since then I've gone through 2 MOT'S with no problems and no new tyres. I'd have both filters on. The second filter doesn't create a big resistance but filters more of the air coming in. The part that is collecting the air and which you removed in your video isn't air tight so it'll pull unfiltered air from the side. The second filter will prevent unfiltered air going in

Wow, surprised my 2012 Plug-In had NO input filter whatsoever. Got into the trunk to examine the two cooling fans and they were pristine even after almost 10 years. Went to dealer and bought the outside mesh input filter.
We have a 2011 Prius. No filter. It's 2023 now and the service department has never mentioned installing that outside clip-on filter. 🤦♂️ Since the standard way of accessing the fan involves a HUGE disassembly procedure, I'm going to try to snake one of those thin, flexible clothes dryer vacuum hoses in the duct vent to clean the squirrel cage fan before adding a filter.
Hi! For the ct200 is a bit different I don’t have the part number at the moment but can be found at parts.lexus.com enter your vin and search for G92DH
The #12 hex head screw is accessible by squeezing the right edge of the rear seat, after, its removal you just have to lift the grille which is then easily removed and you discover that the 2013 Prius 5 doors sold in the EU do not have a filter on the cooling circuit of' the HT battery. I recommend the use of a #12 magnetic socket to remove the screw and avoid disassembling the rear seat to find the lost screw.

I Love you man 👍🏻
How to you replace a filter for a 2013 Lexus CT200. Is it the same process? I have 125k miles and never change the filter.
Thank you for the great and informative videos it is a life saver.
Thank you Sir. Your continued education is priceless.
Can you tell me what signs I should look for when the water pump is in the beginning stages of failing and when it has failed completely? Thank you
Thank you so much... im now gonna buy Toyota hybrids.
Awsome you are really great, I am a New subscriber because of your really good videos on toyota prius you really explain everything, may the lord bless you all days thank you for your great videos
Thanks for your expert opinion and trick which was must needed. it will make changing battery filter a simple process. Also I enjoyed your recommendation on new filter.
Thank you for watching Vinnie

Dear Car Care Nut, for preventive maintenance I would like to clean the HV battery fan on my Prius Plus 2012. This is the European Prius Plus, the HV battery is located between the front seats. I cannot find any information on this procedure on the WWW. Your tips are very much appreciated. Again, my car is the EUROPEAN Prius Plus. Thank you. Your channel is the best for Toyota maintenance. Thank you for your valuable tips.
thank you very much, this video is very informative I went to take out the filter that was supposed to be in the car when I removed the paneling that filter was not there should I be worried? nonetheless I replaced it with the filter that goes outside of the vent and it was a piece of cake to put on once again thank you very much for your video
Straight from a Toyota tech. Thanks.
Great advice in your videos. The filter or inlet on the wagon is not on the side but underneath the back seat. Have you a video on replacement of this filter version of the Prius V wagon?
Hi! On the Prius V it’s different and yes underneath the back seat. I haven’t made a video yet on the Prius V
Great filter and very simple to install. My question is can we keep both filters installed?
Incredibly beautiful video very nice explanation
So, you would have to remove old filter first, before putting the one you recommended on, correct? Awesome video!!
Yes! I wouldn’t use double filters
@@TheCarCareNutCould I ask why having double filters is not recommended?
Thanks, I gave you a thumbs up, as I have been doing for your other ones that I have watched.
This filter replacement trick is great. Thank-you!
Thanks for this. Greets from Canada. This video saved me can$ 159 the dealership wanted, likely for the old way you mentioned.
Dealership also wanted can$79 to change two license plate bulbs. WTF ? Make all the light bulb jokes on that.
Thank you very much boss man you make me mechanic ❤
Thank you very much. God bless you also. 🙏
Wow great video and Information. I love my 2011 Prius 130K miles. Man i wish that I knew this earlier. Should I access and clean the fan itself, just to be safe. Saw that on Chrises video. Glad that I discovered you. I will Subscribe!
Thank you for watching my video! I think it’s a good idea to clean the fan as well. You won’t need to clean it again after installing a filter as it will catch everything from that point on
Thank you for those great videos! Sadly I couldn't find how to check or clean 2017 Prius+ (7seat) hybrid battery filter.
Hi, I would like to see some content on the 2016 Axio. Like basic maintenance tips and what oils and fluids you recommend to use.
Such needed video.Thank you for your time.
I learnt something new from you today.
Man you're the best
Love your videos….thank you for sharing your experience
Bro I’ve been trying to find this video!
Love your videos!
Love your channel thanks much
Soooo helpful thank you
Wow, surprised my 2012 Plug-In had NO input filter whatsoever.
Found the part number. Thank you.
So glad I denied this suggested replacement at my dealer. They want to charge 250 for this! Gez. I’m buying the filter and doing it myself lol
The Lord bless you and keep you also. Nice to hear scripture quoted.
Amen! Thank you!
@@TheCarCareNut hi, this it's work for Lexus CT200h? Or you know the part number for Lexus CT200h?
Hi! For the ct200 is a bit different I don’t have the part number at the moment but can be found at parts.lexus.com enter your vin and search for G92DH
@@mondo_burrito funny. Very funny.
That was an easy DIY , thank you!
You probably saved me 500 bucks at the Toyota dealer!! 😂😂😆😳😳😳😳😳
Thank you!! Love the trick to get to the filter
Thanks for your Toyota hybrid videos, so clear, helpful and engaging. I have a 2013 Prius (3), just 50k miles and since My Prius is almost 10 years, I am getting concern on the life of the hybrid battery. Is there an inexpensive self test to check health status of the hybrid battery? Thank again and stay well.
I have a 2013 Prius C, , I watched your hybrid battery filter, I checked and there isn't a vent in the same place as the video. it has about 110000 miles and I don't want to sell or trade but I also don't want the batteries to go bad on me. I took it in for service and asked them to check it. the mechanic told me he checked it and it was fine. but the service writer told me, they didn't check it because they had to take the back seat out. so I need to know for sure.
Thank you brother you saved me some money
I'm a taxi driver. A taxi or Uber driver should consider getting the bigger so their passemgers aren't running agaisnt it everyday, but good to know the non uber drivers among us have a better option. Thanks bro.
