I've had the HR-V for 4 months now and honestly the high tech that comes in it is just amazing. Yes yes the engine can become noisy but so is any other car. As long as you drive and break slowly this car will save you a lot on fuel. Really happy with it
I've had the HR-V for 3 months now, driven up and down the UK twice in that time. The engine note is annoying, but honestly most of the time the car is silent. Unless you are a very aggressive driver, there are few occasions when you need to accelerate so hard. It rev's up for that burst of acceleration, then turns quiet again. At low speeds or when stopped, the engine cuts off completely and I really enjoy the quiet. The rear seats are fantastically comfortable and spacious, apart from the middle seat. Seating position in the middle is horrible. The folding seats in the rear are amazingly practical (we moved home recently, was a god send), I have noticed they rattle a bit over bumps. I find if I sit in them after folding back into place, that seems to help lock them in better and reduce rattles to only severe bumps.
I agree with everything you have said Kevin having had mine for 4 months now, this is the most relaxing and economical car I have ever had , and I've had many brand new cars over the last 40 years, but this is my first Honda.
This thing about the noise is just ridiculous. It sounds like any and every petrol car under hard acceleration - just a bit nicer. And... it's working harder than those regular engines as it's working harder - not just for acceleration but also for charging the battery at the same time. Hence the economy. The engine always operates at maximum efficiency (41% instead of 25 to 30 for Quashquai). Which in fact is why Nissan has more or less copied Honda's e:HEV system and branded it ePower.
I've had a Honda HRV for a couple of months and done over 6k in it, lovely car and the noise isn't a problem unless pushed hard. If you are after a good mpg and comfortable journey it's a great car. The Honda doesn't have android auto wireless either, you have to plug it in but no great issue.
33.6 versus 48.4 mpg on the same route ? Add a pinch of ‘cost of living crisis’, a teaspoon of future residuals and a quick calc that the HR-V is….wait for it….44% more economical. The HR-V - as an engineering proposition - is in a different league.
48.4mpg is pathetic for a hybrid, does the driver know how to squeeze/ease his right foot ? My Kia Niro tops 60mpg without trying. I had a very good HRV test drive on mixed roads, I achieved 70+mpg and the engine didn't need to mooo when I accelerated.

Still waiting for my Hrv, hopefully September. I have heard loads about the noise on YT however after a lengthy test drive I found it way quieter than my current Hyundai ioniq that is quite honestly horrendous at motorway speeds due to the weight saving lack of sound proofing and hard tyres.
My HR V is 2k and is completely rendered to Honda's hybrid system, amazing!!! the 131hp main engine is fab you always have a straight start and accurate this is an above average driving vehicle! this story of noise loading in the background..... what situations do you use? you with your gasoline or diesel car if you charge at full load, and put the manual gears in the limit to touch the red .... is it silent???? take a test drive .... just yesterday I did 250km round trip 4.5 /100km ... by highway and on the way back by road, I went 130km/h without fully charging ... and the Sensing system is a must , without structuring in AE without almost any steering wheel ..... do a test drive if you have doubts .... after 13 cars of the same range, my first Honda and the best car ever in every aspect
totally agree, i have my hrv with 2.5k and very very rarely I heard that noise,that you get from any car when you push hard. Is more the comfort and smoothness that you get from it.Definitely is a win for honda imho.

I prefer the Honda overall despite, in my opinion the Nissan being the more aesthetically pleasing! What I can’t get past with the Nissan is it’s poor reliability record and the weedy engines…. The Honda gets my vote 🗳

Qashqai is a bigger car. The real opponent of HRV should be C-HR or other full Hybrid. Qashqai also has a full hybrid version called e-Power. It can be also a better option to compare.
Good point; the HR-V is a subcompact crossover based on the Honda Fit, so it competes with the Nissan Juke. Sadly Honda prices have gone up so much that the HR-V is priced similar to compact rather than subcompact crossovers. ☹️ 12:34

I have been driving a 2010 Qashqai N-Tec since 2012 and, to my mind, it is the best car I have ever owned. It is getting to the stage now when servicing is getting expensive and I was loaned a 2022 Qashqai Acenta Premium for a week recently. I could definitely see the areas of improvement that have happened over the past 12 years and where I was considering holding off for an EV, I am now considering a new Qashqai.
I have had two Qashqai. One from 2015 and 2020 and in both I had problems with the front brake discs, electrical problems and a lot of noises from poor adjustments of the dashboard and doors. However, for about three months I have had a HRV-HEV and it is an absolute marvel. Comfortable, soft and very well finished. It shows that it is made in Japan.
Funny opinions about the HR-V The boot space is good for the cars size. 2. Nobody is sitting in a car like in this test, throwing the head back close to the end... it looked a bit .... 3. This thing with the noisy engine is a personal opinion. The HR-V is one of the most affordable small SUV:s on the market. Unfortunately this Review is not reliable!
Not sure about drive, but looks department, they are in a different league. I know looks aren’t everything, but that HRV is sexy, Nissan not so much… but each to their own
We wanted the HRV, and we have a Jazz and have a new hybrid on order. Qashqai is simply a much better car less money than the HRV. Quieter, more refined and very comfortable. All round camera system makes parking as easy as a Mini 😀 Digital driver display and infotainment is also superior on the Qashqai, and the wide opening doors a blessing getting the grandchildren car seats in. Match the cost of the HRV and you get Pro Pilot for assisted driving and adaptive headlights which change their beam pattern. Wanted the HRV but..... I always change the driving mode to eco and turn off stop start. We have the same engine and auto box, and have done 4,000 miles at 44mpg. That's measured, not what the computer says. Very acceptable for the size of car. HRV boot smaller than our current Jazz was disappointing.
Yes but you are comparing apples with oranges because HRV floorpan is based on Jazz so a smaller base to start with . Also Honda reliability vs Nissan/Renault reliability with regards to their CVT gearboxes is another story.
Check out eco driver's test. He's got 50 mpg out of the new Qashqai. That was over a set course. Mountain passes, motorways and urban driving. He drove to the speed limits and didn't have the stop start engaged. So he could have probably done better in town; waiting at traffic lights. I also saw another review on the Nissan Qashqai, where the reviewer had been using it for work. He travelled 50 miles there and back and returned 48 miles to the gallon. I think the what Car reviewer, must have had the Qashqai in sport mode all of the time. 😁
Nissan became massive sellers with these due to motobility. If using for this then Nissan wins. If buying with own money and want it to last Honda wins.
I've never heard so much dribble when someone is a Nissan fan they will do anything to discredit other cars.. He says Honda started out with the suv before nissan but then Nissan came along and out sold honda .. of course they would they are the cheaper car . I'm sure in the beginning he said the Honda was the bigger suv but then says the Nissan has more space🤔 I haven't finish watching the whole video but I bet he says that Nissan is the better car. But Honda is more reliable.

Mild Hybrid models shouldn't be compared to Hybrid non charging models. Ideally we'd like to see a group test of Hybrid SUVs - E-Power, Sportage, Carrolla Cross & others.
I test drove the HRV and a Nissan as I am considering a non plug in Hybrid. The HRV was disappointing too noisy at speed on the motorway. The Nissan was better it was a Hybrid too. I currently have a diesel car and it is quieter than the HRV. Also delivery of the HRV was July!
Are you sure that Nissan qashqai is a mild hybrid car? I thought it was a serial hybrid car that the ICE works as a generator to produce electricity for the battery
Biggest problem with the HR-V is very limited telescopic steering adjustment. Biggest problem with Qashqai is hellishly uncomfortable front seat backs - genuinely the worst I've ever experienced.

Is the HRV a plug-in hybrid? If it is, then that is a no go for me, as I live in an apartment, with on street parking. Of course a full hybrid will return better miles per gallon. Having said that, there is a guy in Switzerland that test the economy of cars. On a mix route of mountain passes, motorways and urban driving, he managed to return 50 mpg on the new Qashqai. I am sure the HRV would do even better. Still pretty amazing for cars of this size. I have also test driven the Nissan Qashqai. It was the Tekna version. Perhaps it's suited my driving style, but I didn't feel it wanting for power. The CVT gearbox was quiet and smooth. If you take it by the scruff of the neck in sports mode, it performs very well indeed. 0 to 60 came up in less than 10 seconds, which is pretty good for an SUV. Take your point about the Lightness of the steering, it is a shame the steering isn't weighted more in sport mode. However it makes town driving a breeze. The seats felt amazing. I think they have been developed by NASA. They are very comfortable, with plenty of support in all the right places. With all the safety AIDS and semi-autonomous driving AIDS; I can see the Nissan Qashqai being an excellent long-distance Cruiser.

I've got a brand new Quashquai but I will not buy another. Everytime you start the car you have to accept or decline a disclaimer which is incredibly annoying and dangerous as half the time you are already driving. I have spoken with the dealer and this can't be removed.
That Honda interior is an option on the advance, standard on the Advance style. Liked the HR-V but it's too pricey and a 6 month offer. Got a Tucson hybrid instead, £100 cheaper/month and 230hp.

I wanted to like the HR-V but I found the seats way too small. It was more like seating on a stool than a seat. Maybe okay for Japanese people but impossible for me. I also think the front is quite ugly. Honda needs to get their design lanuage sorted. The Jazz, Civic, HR-V and CR-V are all so different at the front and the shape/size of the Civic seems to change massively with each model change.
Nissan are part of an alliance with Renault, and as a result the quality has suffered immensely. If you want to compare mild hybrids, compare also a Mazda CX-30 which will get 47 MPH all day long, and with a 2-litre supercharged petrol (plus mild hybrid) it'll leave a Qashqai standing.
New Nissan Qashqai has way more better quality than the previous version it doesn't look like a renault from the choice of plastics and parts in the interior.

@@skullft7731 The petrol engine has 131Nm, but that is not important. The electric motor has 253Nm. I test drive the Jazz recently, which is a very nippy car.
I drove a 2022 Honda HR-V hybrid for my road trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park. I drove over 2100 miles and I average 32MPG for my trip. What I like: camping mode works like wonder when I sleep in it in camping ground when temperature was around 30 degree. It was comfortable to sleep inside while the engine is keeping the temperature around 75 degree. Well equipment with technology: lane centering, blind spot monitor, power seat for both driver and passenger seats, moon roof, Adaptive Cruise Control. What I don’t like: 32MPG is low for a hybrid vehicle. Lane centering is not reliable. Seat is very uncomfortable. It is the worst seat I have tried ever.
not a true comparison, because the qashqai is not a hybrid it has a small battery pack with an integrated starter-generator, which is designed to improve efficiency and to deliver a tiny boost in acceleration... hence why we have gone for the HR-V and the best of both worlds is it charges as you drive rather than having to stop for long periods if doing long journey..
I really don't get how my infotainment system in my polo trendline is better and more featured than on those cars. I am looking for an upgrade to a compact suv and i find that shitty. I can't even have what is lacking as optional?
It's not horrible, it's different to other cars, in real life the front of new Qashqai is very massive and has a strong presence on road, the typical V shape that continue with a developing of headlights similar to angel wings it's amazing. It's love or hate this style
Ahh as a mechanic neither of these vehicles are great. As with all nearly all modern cars they have a billion computer modules which WILL breakdown it is just an inevitable fact. They are also stuffed with way too much unnecessary crap that does nothing for the driving experience. I’m not a fan of any modern infotainment system they are all too distracting from the job at hand which is driving the thing. A car is a car! not a computer on wheels. Totally pointless from my point of view.

I have bought a hrv. It looks great and it needs only 4,4 litres for 100 km in the messy traffic in Rome. Really an outstanding result!

I drove a lot of hybrid cars and in the end I bought the Honda HR-V because it's the best of all.The noise is in every hybrid when you push it hard.

The epower is a lovely smooth drive, and averages about 55mpg which is incredible.

@@beautyofnature4890 very good..my last car was a jazz, but I thought when I upgraded to the hrv that I would see a big difference in fuel , due to it being a larger car ..I was wrong..fuel is brilliant, and the car is without doubt , the best car I have owned..if you haven't tried one, my advice is .. definitely test drive one..👍

I've got a brand new Quashquai but I will not buy another. Everytime you start the car you have to accept or decline a disclaimer which is incredibly annoying and dangerous as half the time you are already driving. I have spoken with the dealer and this can't be removed.

That Honda interior is an option on the advance, standard on the Advance style. Liked the HR-V but it's too pricey and a 6 month offer. Got a Tucson hybrid instead, £100 cheaper/month and 230hp.
Isn’t the Tucson much poorer with its economy figures ?
@@wokeupandsmellthecoffee214 probably, it's great around town with hybrid, but on motorways not so good. But the Honda would have to be doing like 80mpg to make up that difference in lease price tho.
I wanted to like the HR-V but I found the seats way too small. It was more like seating on a stool than a seat. Maybe okay for Japanese people but impossible for me. I also think the front is quite ugly. Honda needs to get their design lanuage sorted. The Jazz, Civic, HR-V and CR-V are all so different at the front and the shape/size of the Civic seems to change massively with each model change.
Nissan are part of an alliance with Renault, and as a result the quality has suffered immensely. If you want to compare mild hybrids, compare also a Mazda CX-30 which will get 47 MPH all day long, and with a 2-litre supercharged petrol (plus mild hybrid) it'll leave a Qashqai standing.
Mazda CX-30 is smaller inside and not so comfortable, it's excelent car for driving, but having children is not an option at all
New Nissan Qashqai has way more better quality than the previous version
it doesn't look like a renault from the choice of plastics and parts in the interior.

@@skullft7731 The petrol engine has 131Nm, but that is not important. The electric motor has 253Nm. I test drive the Jazz recently, which is a very nippy car.

I drove a 2022 Honda HR-V hybrid for my road trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park. I drove over 2100 miles and I average 32MPG for my trip.
What I like: camping mode works like wonder when I sleep in it in camping ground when temperature was around 30 degree. It was comfortable to sleep inside while the engine is keeping the temperature around 75 degree. Well equipment with technology: lane centering, blind spot monitor, power seat for both driver and passenger seats, moon roof, Adaptive Cruise Control.
What I don’t like: 32MPG is low for a hybrid vehicle. Lane centering is not reliable. Seat is very uncomfortable. It is the worst seat I have tried ever.
You certainly did not drive this HR-V hybrid in California, because it is not sold in the USA. The HR-V in the USA is a completely different car.
not a true comparison, because the qashqai is not a hybrid it has a small battery pack with an integrated starter-generator, which is designed to improve efficiency and to deliver a tiny boost in acceleration...
hence why we have gone for the HR-V and the best of both worlds is it charges as you drive rather than having to stop for long periods if doing long journey..

It's not horrible, it's different to other cars, in real life the front of new Qashqai is very massive and has a strong presence on road, the typical V shape that continue with a developing of headlights similar to angel wings it's amazing. It's love or hate this style

Ahh as a mechanic neither of these vehicles are great. As with all nearly all modern cars they have a billion computer modules which WILL breakdown it is just an inevitable fact. They are also stuffed with way too much unnecessary crap that does nothing for the driving experience. I’m not a fan of any modern infotainment system they are all too distracting from the job at hand which is driving the thing. A car is a car! not a computer on wheels. Totally pointless from my point of view.
