      it's dead, and the Sony ZV-E10 its the better option for a bit more cash.

    • @adrianvanleeuwen
      @adrianvanleeuwen 2 роки тому +2

      @@LittleMountainLife A better comparison is the newer Canon m50ii which has live-streaming option with clean HDMI out, and can be hooked up as a webcam. Although the Sony ZV-E10 does seem to have a bit better video quality from oversampling, the m50ii still does alright, and the m50ii outperforms the ZV-E10 a bit for stabilization outdoors for run and gun video capture with electronic stabilization turned on. That said, for just an in studio you tube camera the Sony ZV-E10 would have a bit better video image quality.
      The Canon m50ii in my opinion are still relevant for 2022 and at a good price, and matched up with a Sigma 16mm M mount for wide angle and good lighting is a good option for HD1080 video, (unless you prefer 4K full screen, not everyone is doing 4K on You Tube, but some are though).

      I do agree with most of your comments but for me the ability to use the aperture is better than my phone and I’m trying to get a very basic camera that has all the basics. Also the film course that I’m taking has taught me that the m50 can be used for all the plans I have. So even with this video to consider, I’m still going to save for the m50.

    If it worked last year, it works now - if you have one already. Don't let yourself become a gear snob and let that get in the way of making your art. Too many people let the technical nuances get in the way. Just do it.
    I have a stock m50, and my buddy has a Sony A7 with a crazy telescopic lens... I have a cheap ring light that hums when I turn it too bright and a $75 RGB LED diffuse light. He has a full set of Astera Titan LED tubes x8 ($8500). But guess who is actually making content?
    Not digging at my friend. He's an awesome talented dude and he's working on an album right now that is really impressive, but he could be so much further along if he didn't aim for an impossible standard. It's always better to start and then course correct than to try and plan everything. The field is constantly shifting and changing. Just take a stab at it and don't look back.

      Ironically working around the limits of an old or new camera can be half the fun IMO
      From an old Polaroid Impluse AF and a Canon Rebel Ti 35mm camera to a Rebel T6 DSLR or the EOS M200 that I just got and plan to get Full-spectrum modified to act as a fun secondary camera, it's not about how "good" the camera is, it's about how much you can enjoy using it, I've seen people take amazing shots with 10mp point and shoot cameras from the thrift store, which is probably not a bad place to start before going all in on a camera, just make sure you know if it's a digital or film camera as film is tricky to get developed these days with fewer and fewer places to go

    I completely respect what you are saying regarding the iPhone, but just take a look at how many additional pieces of equipment you needed attached to the phone to make it useable. You've got the phone holder, the clip-on lens, and the mini tripod, (which admittedly you might still need anyway). Personally I'd rather just carry the camera.

    I almost bought this camera 4 months ago, but I decided to get the a6600. I shot with it for a month and decided starting 2022 I will go Full Frame and traded it in to get the A7riii. With that being said I still shoot with my rebel t5 and I have to say I am still impressed with the photos it takes. So the M50 being better than the rebel t5 can be a great entry level option for beginners.
    Edit: Smart Phones have come a long way but the M50 paired with a really good lens will still blow it away. Smartphones still have lack luster bokeh because the software is doing it and oversharpness which causes your picture to look bleached.

  • @cryora
    @cryora 2 роки тому +87

    The M50 still has a bigger sensor. When compared on a big screen I'd bet you can see a difference, and that the M50 is sharper and clearer. On a phone screen you can tune things like the saturation and sharpness to make it look sharper than an unprocessed image until you zoom in.

    • @mikeb6927
      @mikeb6927 2 роки тому +2

      So when you blow up a phone image for printing you'll see the pixelation alot more then with a dslr upon editing?

    • @cryora
      @cryora 2 роки тому +4

      @@mikeb6927 Pixelation depends on the sensor megapixels as well as its low light handling capabilities and dynamic range. If the shot is properly exposed, then pixelation related to low light and dynamic range is less of an issue.
      Then when you're talking about sharpness that depends on the lens resolving power, field flatness, and how well the subject was in focus during the shot, as well as how much movement was in the camera during the exposure. Stabilizing the camera and increasing the shutter speed reduces motion blur. Using higher quality lenses that have better aberration correction, and primes which have fewer lens elements, or lower the f-stop will improve sharpness.

    I started by creating many of my early UA-cam videos with my iPhone XR using Filmic Pro. I could say their quality was generally much better than my M50 until I finally learned how to work my M50 settings. Certainly cell phone advances can make for many positive improvements that would reduce the need for an M50. However, I think the M50 is far from being dead in the water and that’s because of its versatility and high quality photos/videos it produces. I would encourage those looking for a great value camera just beginning on UA-cam to get the Canon M50 Mk II. But I’m a long way from being done with my M50. Even if I acquired an iPhone 13 Pro.

Tech Gear Talk helped me with autofocus and camera settings. Then I also found a video that taught me about ISO, frame rate and shutter speed and things changed from there. I shoot 24 frames per second/50 frame rate. I made adjustments to shutter speed and ISO at times even with the autofocus to get the video quality I want. And yes new cameras have been released with a better censor and autofocus. But can you afford them, or do you really need it? As long as you don't want to print on a 100x50 meter canvas there is nothing to worry about... People are picking up analoge camera's again. Prices went up on average 500-600% in the second hand market in the past 2-3 years. And are still rising rapidly because of demand. 15 years ago the where called dead as well. It’s always nice thinking about buying a full-blown DSLR but…why spend the cash when your iphone and a good app can do so much? I can mirror my iphone to my TV and use that as my viewfinder(!), and then connect good audio through the lightning to aux output to a Rode Video Micro - BUT I’m thinking of using the same TRRS cable to connect to my Zoom H4N, plugging in a boom mic, and bingo/bango/bongo. I always remind myself of the ALVS acronym I learned on Think Media - Audio first. That’s why I’m investing in a boom mic to upgrade my audio…but all that said - the point of buying a DSLR for talking head videos is not as necessary, if at all as I once thought.

If you are patient, you can find great deals and owning the speed booster makes it way better. I love that adapter. That extra light really adds to its value. I really digressed, but owning a mirrorless camera or any Interchangeable lens camera MUST be considered beyond just being able to shoot video and photos at the most affordable price. It's more important to upload in 2.7k or 4k, for example after the original footage was upscaled, rather than the need to record in 4k, because this allows also small UA-camrs to get the vp9 codec, which makes a big difference

    I gotta call BS on this video. The M50 is still a better tool for content creation than a smartphone. I wouldn't worry about 4K and "future proofing" for a few reasons. You need a good computer that can handle editing 4K footage before you even think about shooting in 4K. Also, it's really easy to sell a camera on the used market once you've outgrown it. It's not like you'll be stuck with it forever. I outgrew my SL2 in 6 months, sold it for $500, and put that cash toward a 90D. And even though I can shoot in 4K now I still prefer a 1080p workflow. Smaller files, easy to edit, and quicker to export/upload. Most people watch UA-cam on their phones which have 1080p screens and they probably leave the quality set to auto so they're really only watching in 480p or 720p. 4K is not that important. I do paid client work and no one has ever requested a 4K output. So to sum this up, I'd definitely recommend buying an M50 for content creation over just using your phone. The Canon DSLR/mirrorless "look" is more pleasing than Apple's iPhone "look", even if the iPhone is sharper.

    • @ravinchandra
      @ravinchandra 2 роки тому

      Not to mention how disappointing those tiny sensors are when there is less light. I agree with the 4K point too.
      But in daylight, if you're starting out on creating videos, phone's are okay to begin with and can be a platform for learning video creation.

    • @joeygwood
      @joeygwood 2 роки тому +1

      @@ravinchandra Agreed. I just don't think it's fair to say that smartphones outperform DSLR/mirrorless cameras. But if a phone is all you have then use it.

    Looking for advice on choosing the best wide angle, low light, AF lens for my Canon M50.
    Which one of these is the best choice or is there another you would choose for the M50 within a $250 - $400 range?
    Also, would the VILTROX EF-EOS M2 Auto Focus Lens Adapter 0.71x Reducer Speed Booster work well with these lenses?
    My #1 choice "right now"
    Tokina Wide 11-16mm f2.8
    Rokinon 10mm f2.8 Ultra Wide Angle
    Canon 10-18mm f2.8
    Sigma 16mm f-1.4 A solid lens but not sure it's the best for real estate
    Rokinon 16M-C 16mm f/2.0 Aspherical Wide Angle
    Rokinon never made the 12mm f2.0 AF for the Canon, so that's out unfortunately!
    Thanks!

The G85 has 4K capability although there is a slight crop (not near as much as the M50). The only thing I miss about my M50 is the dual pixel autofocus. For not that much difference in price, the G85 blows the M50 out of the water IMO

    As someone who just bought a Samsung S21, and owns a Canon m50 mark ii, the camera functions on my S21 are simply amazing. You're right with asking yourself before, "What am I going to do with it?". You can also get lenses to go with your phone now that aren't going to break the bank as well as a microphone. Just always do your research before buying, the S21 doesn't have a microphone jack, so you either get a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter or get a Bluetooth microphone, that I didn't realize until I had the phone, but it's a simple fix!

    Although phones are great camera devices, here are some things to consider
    - phones are still phones. What happens when a call comes in while recording?
    - the camera on the back is usually enter quality than front facing. W/o the screen facing you, how can you monitor the frame?
    - with iPhones, you’re gonna need dongles/adapters-lightning to…
    IMO I’d just keep it separated. But like you said, just make content 👍🏼

Right now on Amazon some great deals on the Canon m50ii. I am thinking of trading up my m6 to the m50ii so I can get the streaming function and also use it as a webcam. Also already have the Sigma 16mm in M mount you guys previously recommended. This camera is also good for a stabilized outdoor camera. But I can see that many people like using their phone cams and you have indeed shown this works well, if you have a top phone model like iphone 13 with adapted lens. Both work in my mind. People, pick your flavour!! and make videos.

Obviously subjective, however I find having the ability to work with ext. sound, transferring video files and locking in all your settings with the M50 is MUCH more convenient than shooting with your iPhone. BUT I look at the iPhone as another video option and use them both, as I use my DJI mini 2 and Hero 8. Look I have a M50 and although I love it, you are probably getting this camera as your first camera to try things out and although it’s great that your getting used to it, I 100000% agree that if your starting out and are honestly a little nervous to make videos or walk around with a camera then a phone is a great way to start because it’s a phone, it’s something every one has and is more easier to pull out and record to shoot.
    This video was probably perfect to the tea. Phones are so good nowadays that if you really want to create great photos or videos your best bet is to save money and invest in to a top camera. And while your doing that you can get used to pulling out your phone to take photos or video and creating in general because the hardest part about a camera in my opinion is pulling it out or creating videos with it.
    Honest I love think media because they help so much with camera information and info about UA-cam so throw them a follow.
