the thing i love about country music... its story telling is second to none and very very often based on true stories. And yes they say that this is ronnies true story.
I love that this story explores relationships from 2 different perspectives. First, the friendship than can be had between the young and old. It is so rich and deep that it lasts through both lifetimes and gives both so much. The other is the small town relationships between neighbors regardless of race. Those friendships are usually ignored and that’s a disservice to all.
I’m 32, i remember listening to this on CMT when i was 13 or and crying as a kid. Understanding how wrenching the story was. I use to rewatch when my dad wasn’t home so he wouldn’t see me crying lol. Brooks and Dunn is the greatest.

They've both have been around a while and I love just about everything they put our They have another song that is called "Holy War" that is a more upbeat Gospel" song. They separated for a few years and have recently got back together and were seen singing at Toby Keith's memorial with many other country artists. If you have a chance listen to Toby's song "Don't let the old man in". I loved your reaction's to their music and I've watched 3 other versions of shows like this one and the reactions brought all to tears. I was dying of alcoholism & drug addiction at the age of 30 & couldn’t stop. So I got on my knees & begged God for help. That was 34 years ago & I’ve never had a desire for booze or drugs since. When people ask me if I’m proud, I tell them I haven’t done anything but ask God for help. So I’m grateful, not proud🙏✝️
Ronnie Dunn, sang the story of his real life in song. The old gentleman was his neighbor growing up and served as a role model for Ronnie. When the old man died it hit Ronnie very hard. Ronnie still has the old man's Bible. I have heard that Ronnie inherited his farm and still owns it today as the old man had no living family left. It's a powerful song about a great old man who guided and shaped the man Ronnie became.
