    You remember back in the day if you saw a Taurus like this one in a movie. It always seems like they beat the hell out of them and they were indestructible. Who cares what it looks like. You saved it from being ripped apart for parts and then scrap. Someone could use a decent everyday driver, good job guys!!! 👍😁

    I think you're missing the rubber bump stops that sit on the core support for hood, they help with hood height when its latched and gives it the spring up motion it needs when pulling the lever from inside car!!!

    It never fails when you see a million grey Ford Taurus going down the road. When you go to the junkyard you can find anything but a grey hood. It seems that way with any vehicle lol

    did you know, that humans and cars are mechanicly similar, feet and wheels move us, shoes and tires, protect the feet and wheels, we both have fluids in our systems, we both require fuel, we both emit fuel, people are like plug in hybrids, we need to be recharged, where a car only has to stop to refuel.

    I fixed a totaled deer hit 2002 Chevy Impala with a sledge hammer, strap steel, self tapping screws, and a couple junkyard light harnesses and buckets. I drove it for 7 years back and forth to work. Then I gave it to a friends 16 year old kid for a first car. He drove it for 5 more years and traded it in for a new car haha. It didn't look the greatest but it always started. I never ever had that car not start.

    I owned two Taurus sedans, an '89 and a '90, at the same time and found them to be excellent midsize cars for the money. Both cars were purchased used with 85,000+ miles on the clock at time of their respective purchases. With oil changes, new plugs and filters, tires, and in the case of the '89 an AC recharge, both cars provided several years of excellent service as everyday drivers. By the way, you never fail to amaze me in that in so many cases you get more done to revive a "tired" vehicle in your driveway with hand tools than some so called professional garages with "school trained, highly experienced" staff on their payrolls.

    it was/is totaled if the repair you did cost a 3rd of the value already without replacing all the parts needed (30% or more of the value is an immideate total loss) this realistically wouldve cost a few thousand to fix the right way which is more than double the retail on this car in vermont im glad you put it back on the road though

    Very cool video guys nice to see a project like this come to fruition.
    My folks had a Taurus like that only real annoyance was the back end on it was too soft. They kept making the car heavier yet the spring rate lower (exception sho models). We could have had I known earlier in it's life ordered or pick a parted springs from the 1st gen (highest spring rate)or 2nd gen (2nd highest). If your carrying weight or a family regularly it's nice for clearance and aerodynamics, mpg.

    Great video! I'm surprised the air bag didn't go off!! Secondly, I had a 2007 Taurus hit in the side; both A and B columns pushed in and of course the doors wasted. In 2014 I got 6k from the insurance company and kept the salvage which I then sold for $1400.00!! I'd paid $8700.00 for the car in 2008 so I got almost all my money back and drove it from 2008 to 2014!!

    I’ve owned two of this generation of Taurus . Both were 2000 models with the dual overhead cam motor like this one. The engine itself is super strong, durable, and decently powered for the vehicle. The fourth generation that Ford did for this platform before they retired it was a decent car. One of my friends worked at the factory in Atlanta and was able to give me a couple of tours, once while the plant was operational on a weekday. I know they were not everybody’s cup of tea, but you could do a heck of a lot worse.

      Both my 2000s and my 97 SHO were phenomenal here in SC. Never overheated. Boiling hot heat. And frosty AC. The 86-95 stunk for heater core jobs since you had to evacuate the AC system.

    • @Stressless2023
      @Stressless2023 2 роки тому +1

      @@NickMyers1 I'm surprised that you say they're dwindling in the south where you are - These were an everyday-all-day sighting here in Detroit all through the 2000's and most of the 2010's but rust from the salty roads in winter has made them nearly all gone here, especially the '96-'99 bug-eyed ones, those are just non-existent here now... figured they'd still be abundant the further south you go though. And both of you guys forgot about the transmissions being a common problem lol. I actually gave my stepmother good luck with one, she had a '98 bug-eye that she bought new, I changed her trans fluid every 30-40k for her and even kept doing it for my younger brother who she gave it to in 2014 and that original trans lasted until almost 190k before it finally started to shift hard. It was a rusted out death trap by then with holes in the floor boards big enough for Fred Flintstone to stick a leg through so it was junked but I proved that those AX4S transmissions can be reliable if serviced a little more often than usual. Seems like the 2000+ versions were a little better with transmission reliability than earlier ones though.

    I had a 2000 like this but with the Vulcan V-6. Only had it 7 weeks (around 2008) when it got totalled. Front was bashed like this, but front fenders were crushed back enough to damage the doors, and drivers window got busted. Windshield was fine, airbags didn't deploy. I was sad to part with the car after such a short ownership experience- it was comfortable, cheap, and I really enjoyed long drives in it. People make fun of these cars, but like anything, take care of them and they last. Car probably saved me from serious injury, and I ended up getting another boring silver Ford sedan (10' Focus) that costs me little to own, runs like a champ, and is built well, if sometimes a little crude.

    The Taurus comes up on Craig's list regularly with 300K miles on the odometer, here in Virginia for $3000. I've owned 3 of the 1996 thru 2007 models and they are unstoppable, if they are maintained. The best engine to have is the 3L DOHC. You can find them in Florida rust free with 100K miles for $1500. Drive or trailer them to Virginia and double your money. Not a very exciting body style, but money in the bank for folks looking for durability.

Then paint the hood and clean up those foggy headlights could make a decent sell on it still or just keep it.
