One major overlooked issue is sponsorship “blackmail”. No electronics sponsored pro will speak out against the people who put food on their table. They aren’t able to speak their minds without significant repercussions. This isn’t to say these companies are evil or putting undue pressure on the anglers they sponsor, it is just a catch 22.
Idk, you don’t hear many people complaining about FFS because they can’t catch fish or win tournaments. It comes mainly from a conservation stand point and what it is doing to bass fishing in general not just tournament wise. It really hurts your big breeder fish and doesn’t give some fish a chance to hide or evade anglers. Also Hunter brought up how FFS just gives an advantage to someone who was willing to work hard to learn the electronics, which is all fine and dandy but from an viewer standpoint I’d rather watch someone work hard to improve their raw fishing ability rather than someone who worked hard to watch a screen and figure out how to read it. The phrase just get with the times should never be followed in my opinion. It is an excuse to just accept something and never gives a reason why you should or shouldn’t. It’s a quick fix phrase that usually people use when they know their opinion isn’t the best or doesn’t solve a problem. I love your guys content and I think Shryock is a very good angler. I also understand that you really do have to use FFS to compete in todays day and age, but that doesn’t mean it is not good for bass fishing or aquatic species in general. It really is, as randy says, spotlighting for deer. Except that FFS is legal.

The helmets fighter pilots wear have technology builtin that causes the plane to maneuver in the direction the pilot moves his/her head. Someday, elite anglers will wear glasses which react to eye movements or voice commands to control the trolling motor and electronic tools at their disposal. Maybe with this kind of heads up display the anglers will become more interactive like they used to be. Just a thought!
What about no practice events with FFS? IMO that would be interesting to watch because you would have the ability to watch anglers break down bodies of water and it might bring some more entertainment value. I also think it would make it more of a race to the finish. Obviously they would need to select lakes that the tours don’t have as much history on or places they have never been.
I also think professional bass fishing has become less relatable unless you own high tech equipment like FFS or spot lock. In the 2000s, many more people could afford basic side imaging and a normal cable operated foot trolling motor.

In general that’s not relatable to most everyday fishermen. An angler out there in the middle of nowhere dropping on fish…..what’s the difference whether he’s looking at the screen or looking around at thousands of acres of water? None to me
And anglers complaining about FFS because they don’t take the time to learn for small mouth fisheries, and they finish horrible for AOY…. Totally agree
While I don’t think FFS is a bad thing. Professional bass fishing is a lot more boring to watch with the introduction of FFS. That combined with everything being “live” makes Bassmaster less appealing. Back in the early 2000s the 1 hr Bassmaster episodes were entertaining and full of drama.
Here’s the issue. Using ffs takes away from the actual even of fishing. Playing a monitor takes away from the hunt. You no longer need to know what a bass will do in different seasons. All you have to do is go find them with forward facing sonar there is no more need to know how to find out what the pattern is for the day how to find out what bait and color is working how to find out where they will be. All you Gotta do is go look at the screen then you just sit there and fish the damn screen like it’s a game it is the most boring thing to watch and if you were to take that person out on the lake and ask him to go find the fish because they’ve been focusing so much on Ford facing sonar they have the biggest problem finding the fish the right way. Just look at bass geeks channel. I loved his channel and watching him try to find the bass with the technique and lures he was recommending now I can’t watch his channel because when he’s fishing, he’s just staring at the screen that guy went from being a good fisherman to just fishing the screen, 100% of the time on his UA-cam it is the dumbest thing he could’ve done yet. He did it because it’s easier for him to catch fish now what about the people out there that watch his channel and don’t half forward facing sonar now we get nothing from that. What’s the point in watching the channel this is the same thing with tournaments, anybody can come in with the technology and learn real quick how to use it doesn’t take a long time to learn how to use forward facing sonar you no longer need to know how to fish it’s ridiculous
I believe the ratings are down because of FFS. I'm a living example. I used to follow BASS and MLF religiously. Not anymore. I quit watching about a year and a half ago exclusively because of how boring it is watching guys fish FFS. And its not just that....its the fact that everybody is doing the same thing. It doesnt get more mundane than that. Knowing exactly how all these guys are going to fish on championship Sunday is extremely boring as hell. No intrigue. No ingenuity. No mystery. If FFS is not the reason that ratings are down then I'd really like to know what the reason is. I think it generally points to one thing.
I keep hearing some guys talking like this about learning what took others a lifetime and the younger pro's doing it in a couple years . Please explain what exactly they are learning ? Leaning how to watch the fish and react to the bait? When to change bait by the fact the fish arent reacting to what they present??? What exactly are they learning in 2 years? If you took FFS away those who rely solely on FFS wouldnt even be in the running. So instead of bashing those who dont think it should be in competition why dont 1 of you explain what it is that is learned in 2 years because personally what I have stated is the basics of using FFS. You dont look for structure with it. You dont find then with it. You use SI and DI for that and all you are doing after you find them is watching how they react!! If they react positive and there is a large group you fish it till it plays out, if they dont react or group is small you move on. Common Sense stuff but NO SKILL. PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IS LEARNED IN 2 YEARS!!!
If it's used to study and learn bass behavior to educate ffs can be a wonderful tool. But when it's used to pull up find the fish and look at a screen it's not fishing it's playing a video game. It also brings a unfair advantage to the people in tournaments that can't afford ffs .
I'm sorry but as a fan I don't watch you all anymore, it's boring. Some advice, quit dogging the guy's who preferred watching Denny brauer flip a jungle than watching people stare at a screen.
hard disagree. this is the same thing as feed hunt. Go to a farm, have deer come to feed, and you shoot those deer. Let FFS be fore the weekend angler. Pro angler should be showcasing their SKILL, not ability to afford a rich man tv. Rating goes down not because of SMB, but because it's boring; saying its SMB is just copium
Ffs is the cheapest thing on a pro anglers boat. They probably have more money in jigs than what it costs. Taking away ffs will not change what a smallmouth tournament looks like. Guys have been standing in 40 feet of water with no land in sight staring at nothing for years
So another words a so-called pro is going to have a short career. You guys don’t get it your trying to justify making bass fishing a video game most guys don’t want that.
Come on you guys get money cover the sponsor people the one to pay for it plus no fun it's boring I promised you most of those guys win with the ffs if you told them fish without sonar the results will be not the same
It will eventually be bad for the fisheries and should be banned at a state level. They will come down in price everybody will have them including people that eat them.
Locating fish that would otherwise not be located is the most important thing in fishing. Being able to cast at most of the population of fish in a body water can’t be a good thing for the fishery.
I don't think it's fun to watch someone, just flipping a jig or worm. It's boring to sit and watch someone just throw a swimjig or bladed jig. If the FFS is the problem it would have been the problem 2 to 3 years ago. I think the biggest problem is the viewer demographics has changed. I used a flasher years ago with the transducer turn up on my trolling motor years ago. You could get sonar returns and figure out that fish were suspended.

Yeah, that’s exactly what we want. We tune in to fishing and we’re given just more screen time. Y’all are out of touch.
Most guys who fish don't do it for money. If you do, you need forward facing sonar.. it's up to MLF or B.A.S.S. to ban the technology and they won't..
Hey
Hello
Come on you guys get money cover the sponsor people the one to pay for it plus no fun it's boring I promised you most of those guys win with the ffs if you told them fish without sonar the results will be not the same
It will eventually be bad for the fisheries and should be banned at a state level. They will come down in price everybody will have them including people that eat them.
No one watches anymore. I don’t. To boring and hurting our fish. Ban it
All ffs does is help keep boat and lure on location. Does nothing for catching
With the doomsday scenario y’all laid down maybe FFS isn’t such a good idea
