      @@grim.sleeper when I noticed that no one can truly understand me and lost myself in dark, I become friend with darkness. And now, having alone time with darkness is most relaxing thing in my life
      So dont talk that harsh about darkness, you guys just dont know how tranquill and peacefull it is

      A lot of these things can be difficult, I understand. I go through these things all the time. Some people are difficult to control. You didn’t know she was this close to suicide, so it was not your fault. As awareness goes higher, we will be able to help people before they go through that stage. I’m so sorry that happened to you, just know that it wasn’t anyone’s fault.

    "Do not compare sufferings." When I was depressed, my brother would tell me that his problems were bigger than mine (he had a job that was mistreating him). Every time he said that, he invalidated my own feelings and only made me feel worse.

      Yes that kind of idiots do exist in my life tooo... not only they invalidate our feelings but also dont give a shit about the things we are going through. Best thing you can do is dont share your problems with them and dont give a shit about their problem. May you get happy life.

      Comparing sufferings can be so invalid to bring up, because it doesn’t depend on the suffering, but the person themselves adding on the suffering they’re going through. We’re here for you man, this channel has countless people who are there to help. You are not alone.

      People also believe they’ve suffered a depression when in reality they’ve experienced sadness, so sometimes they just tell me that they’ve gone through a depression and they got over it. It frustrates me so much because in my case my depression got worse because I didn’t get treatment when I needed it. Depression, if not treated, can be mortal, so it’s not just sadness

    I think depression is so incredibly powerful not only because of the pain and everything else, but it's so overlooked and constantly misinterpreted. That's what makes it extremely dangerous in my opinion

    Sadness claws unforgivingly at my heart, no one around me seems to care although they have reassured me many times. Darkness blooms around me, drowning me in an ocean of despair. No matter how hard I try, my voice can not be heard. I keep searching in hopes of finding something, but the waves of failure crash down upon me. The hopeless voice chained up inside my head tells me I will never be recognized.

    The worst is Living with father who doesn't understand depression
    I confronted and spoke about it
    All he could do is blame me for everything
    Lowering my self esteem in every single possible way and blaming me for all my short comings and for everything
    If He cant just Understand
    Then simply just dont blame for everything......
    Sometimes Even living is an Act of Bravery

    For whomever depressed person who sees this, I just wanted to personally tell you to don't give up whether things gets really tough like your in the middle of the storm because regardless of how long it last there's always an end to it.

    Depression feels like a strong hydraulic press or gravitational pull on my brain and sometimes entire body. My head feels so numb both emotionally and physically that fighting it off is extremely difficult. Now it’s deeper than ever, so deep that I often don’t have the will, strength, or energy to do anything anymore. At least that’s my personal experience with it.

      Bro or sis This is my experience too don't worry you are not Alone,in 2019 i could fight against by just doing the opposite that my depression Said,if She Said that i should not study i would study just to prove her wrong,however in 2021 i can barely study i don't have a ton of energy and the university is quite brutal,there are too many tests and concepts add to that the negavite thoughts and feelings 24/7 and it's no wonder that we are so done with life

      I feel so depressed as a kid. You might say “OH YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT DEPRESSION IS.” But it feels like hell. I’m suffering from loneliness and verbal abuse. I have a lot of fake friends who don’t care about me. I kinda feel suicidal thoughts but i still act like i’m ok.

      I have a tendency to hide my true feelings about…well…everything. I’m not too sure if I do have some sort of a depression or mental illness because I hide my true feelings from even myself. I can never tell if what I’m feeling at that current point in time is true or made up to put myself at ease and not bring any suspicion to myself. It’s like I have another me controlling myself while my true self is locked away, only seeing slight glimpses of daylight every now and then. When I do something, it’s for a fake personality I’ve created for myself. I’m not even too sure what my real personality is since it’s constantly like a war in my head. I wonder if anyone relates to this. Probably not lmao. 😂 Either way, you describing what it’s like has surely helped someone. Good on you, dude.

      @@spectralkitsune what you are saying makes sense and yes it happens to me and probably other depressed people too,your head is constantly full of negative thoughts and emotions and you may not Now if that opinion is yours or of depression,but i noticed that when i am not talking a bunch of negative thoughts start popping up however when i talk they disappear for a brief moment so yeah that is your true personality not the intrusive thoughts

    A lot people say:
    "You don't have depression, you are happy sometimes, you go to school with your head up, you do stuff and you don't stay in your room all day snd cry" these make us feel like how we suffer isn't that bad and that we are drama queens. Its hard

      They are people who doesn't know enough about depression. It doesn't matter who's going through it worse or anything everyone matters. Not everyone go through it the same way because everyone is different. Try your best to not think about this, I know its hard to stop those thoughts but as soon as you feel the thoughts coming try to distract yourself? By doing/watching or listening to something you like? You matter, plz dont think yo doin't and I hope you wont have to go through this for long

    I suffer from depression, during the lockdown, all we got is space, i feel its important for depressed people to have support so they don't feel lonely, being alone just makes it so much more harder to deal with things.

      Support is hard to get when youre so closed off even not during lockdown
      I have such a hard time speaking to anybody and talking about my issues is 100x harder

    I’ve suffered through depression all my adult life. Some caused by my environment and others by genetics. What has helped me is having a person who listens to me without passing judgement. Having someone to talk to without giving suggestions or advice has helped me most.

    The last one happend to me a lot of the time . There was this girl that I met on a group chat and she kept calling me texting me even when I asked her to stop and whenever I asked to leave the call she kept asking for minutes and it was really annoying. She kept pushing me to go on the call even though she wasn’t even doing anything.I had the confidence to tell her to leave me alone for some time and give me space but she still wouldn’t do it. It was really tiring and overwhelming for me and I tried multiple to times to block her and delete her from my contacts but she still managed to message me and then my mum deleted her from my contacts for ever so it is very important to give some one their space if they really do need it because it can overwhelm them and affect their mental health to.

      That;s true. If they aren't stopping even when you told them multiple times as kindly as possible it's definitely ok to take more actions and if need completely erase them.

    A mountain won't exist without a depression to be higher than.... Well talking about depression, for everyone having depression (like me), always remember the sentence I mentioned above. Your depression is a hint for the huge height waiting for you to reach it. You just gotta go step by step until you reach the top. Every little step counts so consistency is key. Every time you delay taking atleast a tiny step, you then also delay the moment of reaching the peak.

    I certainly hear comparisons constantly when a number of mental illnesses are dissimilar. Next to having triggers ignored, I find it more frustrating to have someone think ego mentality is like a mood or "will" mentality.

      Stay positive? Really? So put on a smile when I'm feeling sad or down? I am going to be straight up with you giving this advice is a bad Idea...staying positive sounds like good advice but it's not because it feels like they stay happy when realistically it's really hard if not impossible, I can't explain depression but I can understand in part how it feels, the overbearing melancholy, the numbness, not having enough energy to hangout and just laying in bed, I'm not saying you can't be positive it just shouldn't feel forced.😟

      @@AssholeDevourer I don't think some people with depression (which I have a begging and anxiety) are gonna keep smiling and staying positive.. Its hard to fake smile long enough sometimes ur gonna break down. I was told not to cry, ask for therapists or anything like that. I'm sure he/she or any pronouns that the person uses is trying to be nice! Everyone has their own opinions and it's very hard and overwhelming with the people who have depression and the people who have depression and their family don't understand it. I'm sorry if I said something wrong and offended u!

      @@AssholeDevourer IKR I don't really have friends at school and my anxiety caused Hyperhidrosis so it makes it worse and my parents and friends think I have nothing but really I have feelings. I suggest if u go to a therapist and maybe tell her something about what's happening u will maybe feel better? Idk maybe a school therapist. I hope you get better. Some people dont have insecuritys or anxiety or depression so they don't say anything they just bully and make u feel worse, for example I get bullied and made fun of cuz I'm soft and they make my mentel health worse I'm sorry if I made u feel worse or bad.
      And ty, I said sorry If I offended u cuz my sister said I'm not polite and I try to be as nice as I can

    My fiancee sufferes from Depression and Anxiety and I will honestly say listening and letting them know you care for them is the best, it hurts both of you internally to not be around each other at times, but love is about allowing that space to appreciate each other for the next time you're close

    I've been very close to suicide many times. I'm still depressed and suicidal. The only things keeping me alive are:
    1. The songs, thoughts and feelings I write.
    2. The relatable music I listen to.
    3. The Park I walk to weekly.
    4. Me expressing myself.
    5. Movies.
    6. Renee Bright.

      Relatable. You are allowed to spend some alone time but sometimes you need to exit your comfort zone and talk to your most loved ones and they will listen. Wanting to be alone is not a bad thing, as stated in this video. If you’re not comfortable speaking about these topics in person, this channel is full of kind people that are always there to help!

    I'm reminded of a time where a ten year old boy came to me crying worried about dying, as strange sound to my ears but a question my heart knew too well. I told him the truth we all must die in our time and to not rush for we don't get a reset or do over. I said this while battling my own depression and what I've learned from the struggles that far.

    I've been bullied for having depression. And when that happens my friends make it worse by saying: "just think positive! just stop being sad!!" One time my bff said that and I cried and almost committed suicide. Now I'm gonna share this with my friends to let them know what happened that day years ago.

    I want to share a very touching thing that happened to me just now. Here goes
    It’s my birthday,and so far it’s going bad. My mom and I don’t have a good relationship at all so she didn’t wish me happy birthday,neither did her boyfriend. My boyfriend was too busy playing his game to make it to me on time so I went to the mall alone to let off steam. Wondering the mall by myself felt lonely,but I ate alone and shopped alone. Towards the end when I was waiting for my bf to pick me up I sat a Cinnabon shop. There were a nice lady sitting there ,she greeted me when I sat down and I glanced over at her to greet her back. I just thought it was casual and she was waiting to get something(turns out she was waiting for her item at the t mobile across the way) she kept asking if I was okay and making conversation with me,it kinda annoyed me how genuinely concerned she was but after a while I just got emotional because my day is really shitty and this nice lady is asking if I’m okay. She even offered to buy me a treat and a drink but I politely declined. It just makes me want to strive to be nice to people more. This lady have no idea how terrible my day is going and I’m not sure if it is written on my face or not but I am hurt ,but it’s people like her that people like me need sometimes. Im trying not to cry as I write this but I am genuinely thankful. Im enjoying this moment before having to return back to the reality that things are shitty for me. However I wish I could thank this woman in a better way. She’s heaven sent.

      It might seem counterintuitive, but other people can get a decent insight into our state of mind--better than ourselves sometimes--simply because they can see our face, expressions, posture, etc. It's not like we carry and use mirrors all the time, so we often don't know how we appear to others or what impression we're leaving on them. Maybe she noticed that you weren't having a good day, so she wanted to try to cheer up as best as she could.
      You already said your day has been terrible and I'm very sorry about that, but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday anyway. Best wishes and here's to a brighter future.

    ...fundamentally YES... but it's also IMPORTANT that we acknowledge our own shortcomings in this area... *I AM VERY GUILTY OF THIS* and often just face my "weakness" alone.
    THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ACCEPTING WHAT YOU THINK IS "WEAKNESS" AND ASKING FOR HELP...
    It could be the only thing that helps, really... *ASK*
    To quote a stand up Comedian, *2* , who once told me after a show he ended with a group chat about strength and emotion and loss... he said that the fact I came up to him crying afterwards and opened up about how helpful his words were... "This is what I was talking about... It takes so much more strength to bear your emotions without fear" (I'm paraphrasing, this was like 13 years ago)
    You might be too "weak" to face yourself...but be strong enough to face the world and ask for a helping hand. You might be surprised...

    On the one hand, it's important to respect our boundaries about things that upset us (Someone forgot to tell me what happens in the opening of IT... and then saw the abject horror on my face and had to apologize "I'm sorry, I forgot child murder is a trigger for you" ) ...On the other hand, it's also important that we acknowledge that is OUR burden, not society's... It's not up to society to police itself and cater to my own sensibilities... If we censored all fictional media that "triggered" people, you'd never be able to use ANYTHING to present conflict on-stage... Another friend had to ask me to explain why the XMAS episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia triggered me (the idea of having your dreams dangled right in front of your face and then yanked away as a form of abuse...)
    On the one hand, I can accept that some people find particularly inappropriate jokes funny... whereas the same joke could upset someone with say, a history of sexual abuse or victimization. I am not personally offended by rape jokes, but other survivors find them quite offensive. Doesn't mean I'm BETTER or "handle the trauma" any better than them (in fact, my trauma made certain sexual activities extraordinarily taxing to my mental state...for the better part of 15 years...)
    bottom line... EMPATHY... USE IT.

    I've lost a lover...and two friends... to suicide... PLEASE CALL.
    The only thing I've found more sobering than the suicidal ideation I've had over the years... IS SURVIVING SOMEONE WHO DID IT...
    You probably have no idea how painful this is, and that's what you're leaving behind...something even worse than you had.
    Maybe in some cases, I don't know... I don't want to say that Robin Williams was WRONG, but I wish he were still here... Same for Chester...and so many others.

    ...don't let me cope "my own way" ...I just lock myself in my house and play computer games for 2 days and ignore my friends/family...it's not healthy, but that's PTSD for you.
    YES, we all cope DIFFERENTLY, and sometimes our most natural "coping mechanisms" are flawed... Once again, this comes back to USING EMPATHY.
    Give us space, but not too much. Watch us, talk to us, to remind us that we're not alone...and if we try to self-isolate or hide, then maybe it's time to bang on our door with a 6 pack and some green "Hey, let's hang out and watch Zootopia or Spiderverse or something"

    but JUST ENOUGH to not let us forget you exist, of course... When mom died I did legit want to be alone for a few days, Not locked up and gaming the pain away...I actually spent the entirety of the first day just curled up in a full size dog cage cuddling my husky whenever he would lay down with me... but texts and whatnot were nice reminders that my friends and family were both next door neighbors. Dad and kid brother in the house on my right, and two of my oldest friends in the house on my left... and the other two oldest friends came over twice a week. So they were all available and helped provide me an outlet whenever I came over again. We played a few open world games together to help me get my brain working halfway normal, like Conan Exiles and Minecraft...
    I do still want to be "alone" sometimes, but we're talking about time most of us are alone...getting ready for bed or winding down, just listening to music and either playing an easy game or taking a bath...whatever yaknow? Sometimes it's therapeutic to just put on The Dawes "A Little Bit of Everything" and just cry...

    I’ve had depression for a year now I haven’t got help because I really don’t have that many friends the only thing that makes me smile is one of my classmates and for me it’s very hard to accept compliments yet many find me smart or funny and those compliments makes me actually more sad but I always give a smile to them but in the inside I am actually lonely and sad and that’s where I got depression

    Thank you and a big hug for these videos, Psych2Go. I wish I had this particular one when I was going through depression. There is one more thing I'd like to add: Depressed people are still valuable.
    I say this because depression makes you feel like you don't matter. What's worse is that those who don't understand it might add on to those feelings. Between my bishop and life in general, I learned: You don't have to live up to the labels, stereotypes, myths, and misconceptions people put on you. Another way to put it comes from actor Steve Harvey in a 2013 speech: "...You are more valuable and possess more worth than in the situations in which you find yourself and your surroundings..."
    Depression doesn't have to rule you or define you. You can overcome it and help others make it through, too.

    The thing is, everyone at my school keeps joking about 'being depressed.' It feels wrong. If there's someone who is actually suffering from depression, they wont be taken seriously, and it may be too late when they realize. It's horrible. They don't understand how bad depression really is, it's not just being sad. It's a real mental illness, and you can't just 'snap out of it.'

    When I was struggling with depression, my brother told me that I was not depressed , but I was a fake person who played the rule of a sad boy to draw attention! :-) I will never forgive him. He uttered those heartbreaking words when my depressive mood was in the worst condition ever.

    I have two questions to ask :
    I sleep normally but besides that have all the other symptoms of depression. Am I depressed?
    Does emotional numbness effects our sexual orientation and makes it hard to find out your sexuality?

      You're an introvert I guess... and also emotional numbness may or may not affect your sexual orientation it totally depends on the who the other person is . Try giving yourself more time with yourself and open yourself to explore new things and experiences

      You do not need to have all symptoms of depression to qualify for a diagnosis. In fact, most depressed people don't have them all. Younger people, especially teens and children, tend to experience appetite/sleep issues more rarely because their hormones and rapid growth have a stronger influence on the body than depression. Sleep disruptions may come later as the condition worsens.
      Your orientation has an in-born basis and develops early in your childhood. Emotional numbness can only make it harder for you to maintain relationships, but it can't change who you're attracted to.

    Spending the past years with severe depression has made me experience this from a 1st person view. It is like being imprisoned in your own mind, and you are just watching your life go by without you. I understand the desire to want to take your own life to make the thoughts, and pain stop! It is unfortunate that people that who have never gone through it is not able to understand how it is like to have your own mind as your enemy.

    About half or more of my friends suffer from some form of depression and it pains me so much when they have episodes of sadness or, on worst case, suicidal thoughts, and I've already had my fair share of talking people down. It's kinda draining for me for just being a high schooler and tying to check I with everyone who suffers from it. However, I realized recently, despite my extreme empathy and understanding, I still don't know how to deal with others when they are having a depression episode. This begins m my long journey of trying to understand so my friends and I can see another sunset.
    Also, to anyone who does suffer from depression, you're fighting a battle you can be proud to come out of. Stay strong loves.

    I had suffered from depression for a long while. Every since, When I was hit down in depression, because all the negative drama that I have endure and suffering from child abuse, anxiety, being forced to work when I was a kid, verbal abuse, taking in too much negative criticism to heart, they always look down at you and want to see you failed at a instant. My father told me no partying after graduation. All I do is work all the time and no balance in my life. All of this is unhealthy for me and to everyone else. Nobody should ever to be crippling and suffering from depression for any reason whatsoever. Besides, We'll deserved to break free from depression for good.

    1:13 This hit me hard. My worst trigger is the carnival, it's where one of my worst childhood abuse memories took place and one of the earliest times I can trace my depression to. It's a perfect mirror of how I saw the world. Happy, fun, and carefree. I always wondered why I couldn't be that way

    Hello there... Yes I'm someone still dealing with depression for almost 4 years now and it doesnt get better or worse. I am in Therapy for almost 3 years now and my moods are more often bright but i dont know if its real happiness... i dont have the energy to laugh joyfull, or to do things.. but all i hear from the therapists is "keep your hopes up!", "think positive" or just compliments.. i know compliments are good but hearing it all the time gets boring and doesnt feel real anymore.. I cant go into conflicts with my family here because "I don't know anything" or should"stop talking" what brings me to my room everyday just trying to hide from everything. The only thing brightening my day is that time with my crush when he asks for a call or texts.

    For me depression is like a constant fog in my mind that no matter how hard you try to make it go away it always seems to find a way to stay. I feel numb inside emotionally and it’s so hard to stay on my feet and keep going. But I still have some hope that one day things will get better and that my mental state will improve. This small flicker of hope has kept me going.

When negative thoughts or if your mood lowers try to distract yourself as soon as you feel it. Maybe do, listen or watch something you like. Maybe watch something funny? I really hope you wont feel like this for long.

      @@babybear3430 thank you so much for the kind comment! And to be honest I’ve had this depression since 5th grade. I’m surprised I’m still going after all these years. Anyways whenever I feel deeply depressed i usually resort to playing video games to cope which I know is extremely unhealthy but I mean video games help me escape from reality. I know I should be doing better things such as doing something active. But it’s so hard to stay motivated. I am trying to get in a habit of working out mainly because my therapist suggested it to me. And honestly I feel like that could help. Who knows, all I know is that I’m sick and tired of feeling numb every day and feeling like I’m worthless. And as always I appreciate the kind comment didn’t know someone would notice my pointless vent.

      @@ryoku6328 First of all don't think it as "pointless vent" everyone sometimes need to let out their thoughts without holding it in for long, its bad to hold in everything so what you did by letting out your thoughts is actually good. And even though some people might say "video games are bad and unhealthy for you" its e very effective coping method. The fact that your doing something to cope with depression without doing nothing is a very good thing. And despite going through depressiont he fact that you are trying to get better is really appreciatable. You even reached out to get help from a therapist.
      Also besides from playing video games do you have any other hobbies? Is there anything you haven't done in awhile? Maybe you can pick up on something you used to do? That would probably make you feel better too. If possible try to try out things you haven't done before? For example... ; if you haven't tried to ride a bicycle before you can try to ride a bicycle? Or... if you haven't been into cooking much, try to take up cooking? Its good to have multiple coping mechanisms and it generally will distract you from negative thoughts and uplift your mood. Also if your into music,when your doing tasks listen to some songs which will make doing that task more better. I hope you won't have to go through this for long.

      @@babybear3430 honestly I don’t know what to say! Everything you have said has really touched my heart. Thank you for the suggestions and the positive outlook. About the whole hobbies, I’m actually gonna get into cooking as I feel like it would be fun. I used to love to draw and I was really good at it but I lost interest and now it’s hard for me to even want to draw. I am trying really hard to find new hobbies to help me feel better through out the day. It’s just really hard because my dang depression is always making me feel unmotivated and lazy. I’m usually always tired or irritated which in turn causes me to not want to do anything throughout the day. Anyways I have made a goal to start looking at the positive things in life and to appreciate the small things, it’s hard for me though because my mind has always dwelled on the negative things which had in turn caused me to feel more depressed. I really try to hold on to hope even if it seems far. Like for example last week I had many suicidal thoughts and it got so bad to the point where I almost came through with a plan, but then I thought deeply about how it could affect my family and how there still could be some hope left. So instead of doing it I decided to rid the thoughts out and keep hoping for good days. Anyways I really appreciate you! Seriously you don’t get to see many people like you in the internet and I’m honestly so glad that someone like you is around. I’m gonna say it again but thank you so much for the kind words, suggestions and everything else!

      @@ryoku6328 What your feeling is very understandable. Low mood and unmotivated is typical in depression. Your not lazy, it's not your fault you don't feel like doing some things ok? You are definitely not lazy. What you feel is understandable.
      I'm glad to hear you want to take up on cooking, that's a good and fun hobby. Cooking is indeed fun. About drawing... maybe not at once take a pencil and book and draw, to draw you need to feel like drawing so... how about start by watching some drawing compilations on youtube? I used to want to draw but also not feel like drawing but after some time and watching some other people drawing beautiful pictures I also felt like I wanted to try to draw like that too. I'm not sure it will work for you. Or search drawings in google and go to images where there will be a lot of drawings by people so hopefully you might feel motivated to draw? Or instead of drawing alone, draw with someone else? maybe your parents or friends? If you have time maybe go to a drawing class? No need to rush it's ok to take your time, start slowly. Also at first you don't need to at once draw a full picture even doodling would be ok I guess.

    We don't always know our triggers. Sometimes it just sneaks up on us or worse it's tied to another mental illness like bi polar depression which is just as bad as going down with a sinking ship.... You know you're drowning and you right and close towards the light but it swallowed you whole no matter what in the end Everytime.

    People with depression and anxiety are strong! Imagine having to battle with that daily and still attempt to function in this world (and not be judged by people who don’t understand it). My PFP looks normal, but I have depression, debilitating anxiety which I’m still trying to figure out my triggers (I think it’s my mom), and C-PTSD I go to therapy for once a week. Now I have GI problems as a result of holding it in. And in the healthcare field, there is no sympathy from your fellow healthcare workers. So I take my meds and put on a happy face for my patients and the public.

    People tell me that I can get over it, or I’m just sad about nothing, or that other people are going through worse.
    It really sucks when people say things like that.
