Exposed Magma Intrusion Dyke Inside an Icelandic Volcano

- This magma column is quite unique and not only popular by geologists but climbers as well. It can be seen from the highway trough Svarfaðadalur Valley near the official Arctic Coast Way in north Iceland but it's not simple to capture it on film so we don't see this very often in tourist brochures.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
Interesting! Love your "elevator shaft for local elves" 😂
😁
I had a good laugh at that too. Your humor is always amazing, Gylfi
That is going to make a lot of geologists salivate.
That was the idea :)
What an absolute gem of a feature. Perfect for Icelanders, tourists and visiting geologists!
Yes this is a good one :)
Fantastic view of the inner workings of this volcano!! Thank you for filming it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@peldridge2627 yes. It is almost like a science tv show where they "remove" half of the volcano to show what is going on inside!
It's absolutely amazing to see this. Thanks again for your amazing footage once more 😊
Volcano live Iceland. They show an expedition into a volcano, one that's no longer active. Its incredible.
That is just incredible. Almost as if it was cut in half by a Troll with a giant saw.
Well said :)
First time commenting I think... I am really proud of my uncle Gylfi and the success of his channel. As an Icelander I can say, that I have learned a lot about my own country watching these videos. I had never heard of this interesting formation before. Keep up the good work!
Bundle of thanks from your far north uncle :) I'm just starting
" Let the drone do the climbing" - extremely sensible.
Great video about a fascinating place. I really must visit Iceland.
You should! and welcome :)
Glad to see aknowledgement of the achievements of the elves.
WOW Gylfi...you are perfectly correct when you said '' it's not often that we get to see a volcano's guts! ''...and yes I am in awe with the drone footage you have given us...thank you and best wishes from Scotland 😀🌠
Hope to come up with more like this as I will be moving around a lot this summer :) and greetings to Scotland :)
Wow... it's great to get some news of a different part of Iceland! 😊
😊 more soon, working on the videos from the first summer tour :)
@@JustIcelandic exciting... thank you ☺️
That's a Textbook Worthy Example
Beautiful. Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers. Well deserved. Your videos and volcanic coverage is outstanding. Thank you Gylfi
Thank you so much 😀
I think I'll let your drone do the climbing for me, as well, Gylfi! Many thanks for filming this "wonder of the world".
Always welcome :)
Stunning footage! TY Gylfi!
Thanks for watching
These elves have a remarkable sense for form and function (elevator in a volcano!). It is absolutly right for the icelanders to stay in good terms with the fairy folks.
😊
Thanks for bringing out so many of the additional geological feature unique to Iceland besides the volcanoes! Thanks for bringing us along for the ride! Keep up the good work! All the best! 👍
Thank you for this interesting video. I like how you speak English with the Icelandic accent.
I wish you and everyone here a nice evening. Greetings from Germany
das geht mir auch so 😉
Thank you! 😃
I am an old woman. I still have lots of fire! Yay (or so say lots of younger people in my life! LOL indeed!). But for sure I would NOT climb this magma column these days. Really happy to see this great video...since it is far less stressful on my body. Thanks so much for this video and a new capture of your incredible homeland. xo
The nordic word Kælling (DA spelling) implies a horrible woman, not a feisty lady. It is an insult worse than "bitch" and similar to the English term "hag" . It doesn't imply the magic and wisdom of a witch, but all the bad stereotypes of a bad woman. The similar sounding male word Kjæltring (NO approx spelling) is a coward or crook .
Love your videos and your voice ❤
Thanks a ton ❤
Loving this footage
Welcome :)
Beautiful, beautiful country. Thanks for your information and drone footage. 😊
Thanks for watching
Wow! This geological feature is absolutely fantastic!! Thank you for sharing, Gylfi :) I'm happy to let the drone do the climbing for me too! ;)
Thanks so much!
Not only that, at least we as 'the public' can now visualise what is happening now.
Really impressive.
I’ve never seen an example of this type of feature so clearly…
👍
Enjoy 👍
This is amazing! And the scenery is beautiful plus breathtaking.
Thank you very much!
So cool! GREAT that it stands out in such relief, too, in the headwall of a glacial cirque. That is some TOUGH rock! And so great to see the wonderful green of the lower countryside even in this northern part of your country. I was so impressed back in 1990, when I was at Pali Lookout on Oahu, and saw a similar feature cutting through the Hawaiian basalts - a feeder dike for some ancient eruption.
Thanks 👋🏻👋🏻
You’re welcome 😊
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for the fascinating information and the breathtaking views ❤
Many thanks!
We are very lucky to even know that something like this can exist in nature.👍
I agree :)
That's amazing! The definition is incredible. Thank you, Gylfi!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the update.
Welcome :)
Geology exposed! You have plenty of geological features in Iceland but this is amazing!
Enjoy :)
When you said you were planning to do more non-reykjanes content, my first reaction was “Noooo! Volcano videos all the way!”, but I underestimated you. I think I may even go as far as to say I enjoy these videos more. ❤
Wow cool! I’ve seen a photo or two of that mountain but never noticed the amazing lava intrusion before. Thanks, Gylfi 🤗
You’re welcome 😊
Beautiful and interesting geology and landscape. Thanks for showing it to us!
Thanks for visiting
Wow, stunning!
Enjoy :)
That is quite amazing
Enjoy :)
This planet has so many interesting features which are just not accessible to the average Jón or Anna. Beautiful footage, thank you for sharing your passion. 🍁
My pleasure!
What a treat to see this, you make me appreciate our earth all the more.
I’m so thankful I was able to visit Iceland this past winter.
That's awesome.
Glad you think so!
Thanks for showing us such a cool feature and also for adding to your collection of monitoring features over time.😊
😊 enjoy
That's Gorgeous!
Look At Those Layers! 😍
Welcome :)
WOW! Just wow..to see this natural, eroded cross section of the inside of a volcano ...wow
Enjoy :)
Interesting view of that volcano. Quite impressive!
Enjoy :)
So desolate and beautiful, Gylfi, and I am in agreement with you, let the drone do the climbing! Thank you for showing us different parts of Iceland that are less known.
Glad you enjoyed it
The horizontal layers stand out beautifully. They show the different eruptions and how much material was deposited.
As good cross section as they get
Thank you for finding this wonder and show it here :)
It's my pleasure
It's quite interesting that such a fascinating and unusual feature would be explored for the first time so late, only in 1997
It actually is, and even stranger that I found this first in a video from a group of climbers but one might have expected to see this is geology reports first :)
Been in the region , but never this close. Cool!
Gylfi that is amazing shot with your drone, Iceland has a lot of geological features, thank you for allowing us to join your expeditions much appreciated, as always be safe, take care and God Bless 🙏😇🇮🇸
Much appreciated :)
Wow, it's just picture perfectly half exposed in or on the mountain, what a sight...
Thanks for watching :)
that formation looks spectacular.more video of it would be great.thank you for sharing it with us.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow! This is incredible, thank you so much for sharing this!! And I don't blame you for letting the drone do the climbing for you, sounds like a smart move :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great video of something really special! It never occurred to me before to be able see the "guts" of a volcano without dying in the process. 😉
Enjoy :)
Fabulous! And as you say, it will not always be there -it could even disappear overnight. Good job you got some footage and showed us all.
Thanks and enjoy :)
Because I hurt my foot during my trip to Iceland, instead of my original plans (hiking) I took a detour from route 1and drove around the Tröllaskagi peninsula, taking road 76 all the way up north to Siglufjordur and then road 82 down south. I did not notice this 'old lady' but have seen the most beautiful scenery of all times! This coastal route is definitely worth some extra time in your car, expecially on a day with nice weather and clear view.
Thanks for sharing Tröllaskagi is a spectacular place :)
Wow! That is incredible! What a stunning day too!
Enjoy :)
WOW, thank you for this amazing insight into the workings of an volcano!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Superb drone footage of the eroded core. Deserves more footage and attention indeed. Thank you for bringing fascinating Iceland to us.
Enjoy ad welcome :)
That dike looks like it runs all the way back along the ridge, and the basalt layers around it look horizontal. It's fascinating to get a cross-sectional glimpse of the same processes that are ongoing at the other end of the island right now.
Wow! That’s amazing - it only take a small leap of imagination to envisage that feature as lava fountaining out of the earth. Nice one. Thank you Gylfi - and best regards from Devon UK
Wonderful footage of a volcano's innards. Please thank the elves.
Thanks, will do :)
This is a fascinating geological feature, and I don't think I'd ever have heard of it had you not done this video. Thanks, Gylfi!
Enjoy :)
Must be (or have been) a goldmine for geologists.
I hope many climbers see this video and make new memories in Iceland. Simply beautiful, imagine the view from up there. WOW! I ❤ Drones. Have a wonderful weekend.
Many thanks!
Wow Your photography/Videophraphy was amazing even with your limitations. Thank you Gylfi, it is beautiful. I’m glad you captured it to preserve its history.
Enjoy and always welcome :)
Wow that whole thing is a geology lesson all on its own...very very cool
thankyou for showing this one off.
Thanks and enjoy :)
Thank you, best regards from your number one fan! May good fortune follow you where ever you go!
Isn’t that the truth!
The first flights to a new area are always a learning process. Lol
I so know what you mean by feeling it out.
Love your flying skills!
Thank you 🙏
Love geology and this is so amazing to witness the past days of volcanism. Thanks!
Enjoy :)
Very cool! Isn't it great when nature gives us a cutaway view of geologic processes, for free!
It you make a return visit, perhaps you could do a 'riding the elevator' shot, ascending parallel to the dyke while looking down? That feels like it would make for an interesting shot, and give a good perspective on the geometry of that feature.
Wow! Thanks, Gylfi! I always look forward to your videos, but this one is really special!
Thank you vert much :)
Beautiful. We're really privileged that you share such wonders with us. Thank you ❤️
My pleasure 😊
That's absolutely amazing, what a spectacular sight
Enjoy :)
Stunning and so unique to see this. Good find 🌋💎
