    4:51 She says Lurch "Looks like a yeti." I'm loving every second of this. I may weep.
    Beth, he was three meters tall. That ukelele you see him holding in this video is actually a full scale electric bass. This performance is, like, two octaves over his natural tone. He _literally_ had fangs. He was sarcasm incarnate. I dare assert he was effortlessly goth. I'd even wager that the accepted covenants of every vampire and lycan clan on earth had specific exceptions regarding interactions with Peter Steele. He was that lovable.
    Gone far, far too soon.

    Type O Negative is one of those bands that you either heard one and brushed off, or fell passionately in love with. You are correct, shows they played on or around Halloween were always amazing. People saying that love videos often don’t do them justice are spot on. Peter had nearly crippling stage fright, and got through it with alcohol. There were shows I saw them play where Peter had a bottle of wine and a bottle of vodka sitting on top of his bass cabinet and went back and forth between the two of them for the nearly 2 hours they were on stage sometimes.

    • @demoncleaner80
      @demoncleaner80 5 років тому +3

      I brushed them off for years. I didn't listen to Type O Negative until about 2005-2006 or so. I was a real late bloomer. I think I had heard Christian Woman on late night rock radio in the 90's but they just never clicked with me. And then I became a huge fan. Wish it was sooner, because I never got a chance to see them live.

    • @ChopTheViking
      @ChopTheViking 5 років тому +1

      Lyset I know the feeling, I heard their Bloody Kisses stuff in the mid-90s and bought it because I enjoyed somewhat, but it wasn’t until the next year when I stumbled across the fake live album they did Origin of the Feces that cemented them as one of my probably 5 favorite bands. Amusingly, my sister saw the album and was like, “Isn’t this that band you listen to?” And she bought it, but HATED it because it was so different and so much heavier/faster than Bloody Kisses, so I traded her. Don’t regret it for a second.

I met my girlfriend at a Cannibal Corpse show but the Type O show was her girlfriend’s first concert and it actually sounded pretty great at the club we were at, I think it held over 1,000 people. Life of Agony was supposed to open up but their bus broke down and they didn’t make it, that was the only disappointment for me personally.

    That pushed vibrato is actually artificial. He physically creates it using his hand on his throat. This isn't the only song he does it with, but one of the more extreme uses. Normally its just to add a light vibrato to his deeper notes. Also this song isn't particularly low/deep for him.

    When Peter sang the part that starts with the line "in the shadow of the light from a black sun", I think she totally missed the fact that, durring this part of the song, he presses his hand against his adams apple and vibrates it up and down, creating a most awesome vocal effect. The first time I saw him do this I was blown away! I always thought it was an electronic effect. The video's over but I'm still typing, the song still in my head, chills all over my body and a tiny tear forming in my eye. I really miss him. RIP, Peter. See you soon

      He was born in 1962. If His mother was born in 1922 she was 40 when he was born. That's not unrealistic...

    • @The1trueDave
      @The1trueDave 3 роки тому

      @@mohi6414 True, since he had something like 5 sisters, all a fair bit older than him. But 'Miss Red Hook of 1922' would probably have been born around 1900...
      I mean one can read too much into this, '1922' may have just been a good rhyme for the previous line, and who knows if 'Nettie' ever took part in a beauty pageant, she may just have been popular :-) But I do remember reading somewhere (don't ask me where!) that it was about his grandmother, I wasn't just being flippant...

    Alright... I just found you and I love that you just discovered Type O Negative. My advice would be to explore them. Start with the album Bloody Kisses. Unfortunately, you won't be able to invite them to your Halloween party because Peter Steele, the lead singer, passed away in 2010.

    One of the times I saw Type O was at 'The Theater' (rip) night club in Fort Lauderdale. During the song "Love you to Death" they turned on an ice maker hidden up in the catwalk. No one was expecting it, the lights were all white & blue, we were all bathed in sweat when icy cool snow fell on the crowd. Freaking amazing concert moment!

    For a band that looked so serious Type 0 Negative knew how to be silly. One of my favourite facts about the band was that the singer Pete Steele once posed naked in Play Girl magazine. The guy was built like a door, it's no wonder his voice was so low.

    I met Pete once, giant of a man. He was super nice. Unfortunately he battled a lot of demons and beat himself up, died way too young. Finding good live vocal performances is kinda hard because he was either drunk or high or sick and he tore his voice up. I love this band though. Thanks for sharing.

    I had the privilege of spending a few weeks with Peter many years ago. He sang a song for all of us, about 40 people. I was one of about 4 people who knew who he was but he brought tears to the eyes of most of the people there. No mic, no prep, nothing, just stood up and sang. I can't remember the exact song after all these years but it was an Amazing Grace type. The world lost a small piece of its soul with his passing.
