- This Sunday, June 12th marks the debut date for the TV One film “Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story.” Outlining her career from an early age, the biopic takes the viewer through many stories behind the life of the multitalented singer and songwriter.
Joining Sway in the Morning along with woman portraying her in the film, Teyonah Parris, and Darius McCrary who plays Gerald Levert, the three speak on how things came together. While Darius has known Howard as well as Levert for some time, Parris speaks on meeting Howard just a few weeks before filming. Speaking on Howard’s infectious energy, she admits that she had a lot of work to do to prepare for the role.
As the interview progresses we hear Hoaward and the crew open up much more as they laugh and joke with each other about their friendship. As Sway begins to dig deeper into the story Hoaward takes the reins and fills us in on many details of her life and career. From her previous marriages to her drug addiction to dating Eazy E she holds nothing back and the whole room bonds together.

Two years before my mom suddenly passed away, my mom struck a conversation with Darius at Houston's Restaurant in Beverly Hills, CA. He was so respectful and courteous...saying "Yes, Ma'am", "No Ma'am". She was so impressed. Talked about it in the car for more than an hour.
Not sure why MH popped up in my head but now I’m binge watching her interviews. I was a young girl when she came out and loved her immediately after hearing Love Under New Management. Didn’t understand a lick of the context of them songs back then but I sung them as if I did. Lol. She made some good music and seems so down to earth. She should have been more than what she is...celebrity wise.

Miki Howard is definitely my play auntie. I just love her. She cracks me up. I became a fan on _Ain't Nobody Like You_. I was just a baby when she came out. I just love the way she sings. Anyway, every black female after Whitney Houston was pressured to be like her. I think Regina Belle and Rachelle Ferrell got it the most. I hate to say, but the truth is, they just couldn't sing like Whitney. She was/is the best of the best. Her voice was strong and clear and she could hit and hold 10+ second notes and never miss a beat. Her stamina set her apart. And finally, most important, she sounded better than she did on record. As I look back at some of ya'll older performance, some of ya'll were strained, flat, pitchy, winded and overall bad, live. #sadbuttrue Now black females are being marketed to be like Beyoncé and Rihanna- hence "Beyoncé world." Underneath it all, I do wanna see you win, Auntie Miki. I like you. Oooh uh uh at 25:05.....*chile*..... Imma leave it alone. Miki, you ain't right, lol! And, dang! Whitney Houston (in her prime) had the best vocals/range EVER! ... Miki Howard had the best vocals in the early 80s; She can still rock a mike. Rest peacefully Ms Whitney Houston./
Whitney in her prime didn't have the best vocal range. Mariah Carey in her prime had the best vocal range. Whitney however did have the best tone which alone set her apart from all the other divas. She definitely could outsing miki however but I believe miki has a wider range if not could hit the same notes as Whitney just not with the same amount of power.
