  • This was our final ride at God’s Grace Campground at Otter Creek horse trails in Glenfield, NY. We definitely got more than we bargained for on this ride.

    Horses love to have a job. I know they are really enjoying what’s going on. Mine always love when I take them on a road trip. The naysayers are just haters. They have nothing else to do but criticize other people because they don’t have the nerve or the gumption to do what you’re doing I think it is so awesome. It is something that, my wife and I dreamed about doing when I retired but unfortunately she became ill. Keep up the great videos and horses are going to get loose and accidents are going to happen and you’re gonna have to see a vet every now and then or a Ferrier that’s the way the trail life is with horses. God bless you and I’ll see you down the trail. 🤠

    If you do not mind; a helpful hint? Always look behind you when on a trail. See what the picture is behind you. Often the same trail can look totally different when you are headed back the other way. Just saying.

    Horses are definitely supposed to travel. I agree with you. You are doing a great job with the horses. There will be ups and downs but that is life isn't it? This is an epic adventure 🐎🐎♥️

    Another great Between the Ears and yes the fun spider webs across the trail (LOL). Have had to chase down many a horse who have gone after the rider has come off. Thanks again and God bless you two along with your big four legged critters.

    You handled Ruachs great escape beautifully and I think Ruach learned there's safety in a lead rope!

    That's some beautiful country and fun trails!
    When ponying a horse, I keep about 3' of rope in my hand doubled over. That gives the horse room to line up behind you on narrow trails, and gives you enough rope to let out rope if they pull back.
    Also, never tether your pack/ponied horses to your riding horse. That's a good way to get yourself tangled in the rope between two horses that are losing their minds. On long trips, I'll take the lead rope, loop it around the saddle horn and tuck the end of the lead under my leg, then rest my hand on the rope going over my hip/thigh. It's firm enough that the horse will follow the pressure, but if they yank back or fall, they'll pull free. If they're goofing off, you feel the rope slide and can catch it before they pull completely free.

    Lucky ruach did'nt get far away. I love your idea to travel this way, but sometimes i think what could happen if a horse should have a problem or an injury, and need to have boxrest and than revalidation what can take a long time. Ok, i hope this never will happen, but you never know. You're still young and always can restart. I suppose you sold your property and you bought this mobil home trailer as your real home. The idea is great and not so many people can do this because they have their normal jobs or they have to give lessons and demos to buy all the hay and suplements. But your work is online, you can do it everywhere. So i wish you much luck and health for you all.💖

    You might try putting a grazing muzzle on Ruach if the nipping continues. As for tying him behind you, try making a loop out of a piece of twine on the back of your saddle and tie his lead to a the same way you would tie a halter. ( Sheet bend knot) if things get western, the string will break.

    That’s some rough terrain for one rider on horse with a pony behind. Perhaps, GPS collars for the boys may be in order.

      I do have one, and switched to this softer one more so because it’s softer lead rope to hold; for the most part he has done really well with it

    Would it help for Ruach to have a grazing muzzle on? To stop his food snatching and biting/nipping.

    • @CarmellaAbel
      @CarmellaAbel  8 годин тому

      It probably would, but he tends to stop after a while; I think it’s just a baby thing he will grow out of. He’s already gotten so much better compared to when we first started working him!

  • @Lurloveshorses
    @Lurloveshorses 12 годин тому

    So glad you got him back quickly! ... can I ask what type of saddle and saddle pad are you using for your trail riding , I just started trail riding my mare and I ride in skeeter all purpose saddle but yours looks more fitted to Tucker

    • @CarmellaAbel
      @CarmellaAbel  8 годин тому +1

      I was lucky enough to get an abetta endurance before abetta closed. It is a quarter horse wide gullet. Can’t remember the brand of the saddle pad, but it’s a little built up in the shoulders to help the saddle fit a bit better

    • @Lurloveshorses
      @Lurloveshorses 8 годин тому

      @@CarmellaAbel the pad i use now is one for good support, my quarter horse mare has high withers , it has a little opening pocket right before the wither and "tents " well there too , but I am always looking to see what else is out there sat could be better for her , living in rural Nova Scotia , I am limited for shop options so most things I purchase online 😊thanks for the info , happy trails and look forward to the next video !
