- Today we upgrade and modify and upgrade my Razor SX500 e-bike mini motorcycle with a 72v 3000w system! Thanks to surronster for inspiring this video with his own MX650 upgrade - this is an upgrade option for Razor owners looking to build a 72 volt, high voltage system on their own e-bike without breaking the bank :)
PARTS TO UPGRADE YOUR OWN RAZOR SX500 RSF650 MX650 or MX500: linked in comments!
This is my first electric bike build / project, so I hope you enjoyed the video!
For everyone asking, BATTERY IS BACK IN STOCK!!
**Parts list:**
72v 3000w Motor + controller kit: amzn.to/3pmls4m
72v 20 amp hour battery: amzn.to/3qsflvM
E-bike twist throttle: amzn.to/3QQ6bEQ
E-bike voltage meter + key-on: amzn.to/3dwrlcC
Hey I was trying the link for the 72v 20 amp hour battery
But it didn’t work
What do I so
Do
@@kennethrascon6414 UPDATE: the battery is no longer for sale :-/ looking for an alternative, sorry for the confusion everyone
I have been going through your sx500 vids and it inspired me to make my own so I cant wait to do that with this parts
How has the parts held up to today . Any problems you had?
He replaced the controller because the one he uses in this video had a weird throttle
I'm just now getting into the e bikes coming from 2 stroke racing bikes, and I really wanted to start with a Surron. However, when I saw someone doing this I thought it was super cool and this will be my first e bike to modify and see how I like it before I dish out thousands more for a bigger one. Great video man
that’s a great way to do it - coming from cars that’s exactly what I did. Fair warning, you’ll probably end up getting a surron. I did. Both amazing bikes in their own ways.
Better to just get a surron. After all the upgrades the cost becomes absurd. 72v high output battery 900+, motor $600+, controller. $400+, wheels/brakes/suspension, etc, another $1000. That's already $3k and it's without the donor bike. 3k will already get you a used surron.
@@DescartesRenegadeit’s faster than a sur ron
@@joeyb7084 faster is just one aspect. It's no where near as comfortable.
The kelly controllers are much smaller and quite good. Makes it easier to build. The motors are rated 3000, but they have no control over how much power you push through it.
100% true, in my latest video I swapped for a KVD with great results
this is a big inspiration to me to keep going cuz im building my own mx650, and i thought itd be funny to slam it to the ground, and now im all in with the build
Hell yeah!! That's such a good idea keep me posted.
the link that you put for the controller and motor is only 48 volts
ong i bought it on accidnet
Good video (except the first half, camera was making me motion sick) but I listened thru as I’d look away for moments at a time. Once you get to actual testing the footage was good. Definitely upgrade those brakes cause I was worried for you on those runs lol
Does it still work?
Thanks for the information. But dude. learn how to hold a carmera, invest in some steadycam or something. Near unwatchable as you flick that thing around
I got 500 bucks. Can I buy a complete used kit for a Sx500 from you, please?
How tall are you? Thinking about building one of these but im 6’2”
i’m about 6’3”ish, we fit surprisingly well actually haha
Dude I freaking love your reaction. It's hilarious. Just got yourself a new subscriber and I was wondering if you've gotten use to the touchy throttle?
hahah thank you, I was really scared. I did get used to it, it's really not that bad on Mode 1 after a few days and a total blast to ride. I did end up upgrading the controller to something smoother + more powerful, so you'll see that video pop up some time next week :)
@@logan-taylor hell yeah man!!! I can't wait for the video!!! I seen the e&c kit but that $1600 price tag was a turn off for me. With the links you provided I'm roughly saving $400 - $600
@@brucewayne6858 WONDERFUL i’m so glad you saved some money, that was the big goal.
The reaction was so annoying and tedious
@@XbnsVvV unreal username. you win this round
The blasphemy. Couldn’t watch the video. Terrible.
big help on mine for fixing seating was move front bars foward a few inches.. felt way more stable and moved that COG
Good call - simple and effective. I’ll give it a shot.
How much was the battery? Can’t find it in stock
Can you update on any new add ons or replacements on the beauty?
i weight 95 and im 13 and when he said at 160 your done i was like shitt im gon be on on my back everytime
hahaha you’d flyyyy dude
@@logan-taylor yh and love your vids btw really affordable for a lot of power
@@williamcarignan5326 thanks bro!
Currently binging all the ebike stuff 👌🏻love from london
thanks g 🙏 I appreciate that
That’s too much power and torque for the little frame. Power to weight ratio is not good. In this video. Sometimes there’s things like overkill.
I mean overkill is literally ingrained into men’s DNA. This is what we live for.
I recommend getting bigger bars it makes the ride so much better
Where would you get those?
Can you please make a video on how you wire everything please I just got all the parts but have no clue on how to wire it. I need help please your the best
oh no!! I don’t have the wiring diagram for this controller anymore but it should come with your kit - shoot me a DM on IG @loganandrewtaylor i’ll do my best to help!
you overpayed for that battery one of the more popular brand for building these sells those batteries for half the price
What brand?
I weigh 160 and have a 72v 11kw razor and I can confirm they are absolutely fun death traps, always wear a helmet (it's not cool to have your brains on the street) and upgrade those brakes to a big caliper and rotor cause stopping is more important than going fast lol
absolutely a death trap. The 11kw kit looks unreal. And fully agreed on brakes, this bike is waaaay different now haha
Please make a in depth video on how to make and rig this thing up 🙏🙏🙏
Hey, now that its been a while since you made this is there anything to say about how long the batteries last? Im thinking this would be better than a lower power gas bike but if I have to replace the most expensive part every few years that might change things.
Can you do a parts list explaining everything
is there an alternative battery?
You got a voice of a professional. I feel you could be UA-cam famous one day lol. Camera was shaken too much while you hold it but other then that, thumps up on the vid. I’ve always wondered if the cheap way is worth it. I got the electro & co kit not 1000 tho
Thanks so much man! And yes I’ve definitely heard that feedback before, noted :)
Imho I think the cheap way is worth it for everything except the controller. And the full e&c kit is awesome, i’m jealous you got it.
do you need the E-bike voltage meter + key-on
How can i get contact for help Where can i msg u on Cuz u dont respond on ur insta i will pay $$$ i need h elp i have sx 500 and all the parts in this vid .
always wanted to get a mini e moto project going. love the ronster, but only own e scooters myself. need a bike in my life! sick ride bro.
do it!! The fun levels are unmatched
Could a different battery provide the same amount of speed? Wondering because 700 dollars is a ton to me.
How fast does the one in the video go
Can I have a 72v battery and a 48v motor?
What battery plug do I get? Is it the xt one?
When you get the cheap controller you get the cheap feel. Grab a kelly controller and your set
for what it’s worth, the cheap controller makes it pretty hectic and fun. But yes, it was a temporary gap stop and an E&C tuned kelly is coming soon :)
Does this work for a rider who is 6'1"? Or will it be too small?
i’m about 6’3” so it should work great!
How much was the battery?
DOES IT COME WITH CHARGER AND HOW😊
Hey man love the build and im looking to do somthing similar, i was wondering if you ever found a different 72 volt battey and e bike voltage meter as the ones you listed arnt available anymore. Love the videos man!
thanks so much! And thank you for letting me know, the vendors keep switching up on us:
Key/volt meter: amzn.to/3UgJo7b
Battery - it seems like they’re no longer selling the 20ah version but i’m not 100% sure that the 30ah version will fit!! Make sure to measure your battery tray first if you decide to go this route, as I can’t guarantee fit: amzn.to/3UDqR4u
@@logan-taylor Will do! Thanks so much man
Does that ECS in the motor combo run the 72 volts or do you need a separate 72 volt ESC?
Stop saying “god damn” and “Jesus christ” please.
forgive me father
the biggest difference between the E&C kit and these big chineese controllers is that low end take off and smoothness, ive been using 80A big china controller for a year now and i just recently got the full E&C kit and it dosent have that feeling of its going to kill you everytime on intial take off, you dont even have to try to take off smoothly lol
It's good to hear your first hand experience -- I've been thinking more about going with the E&C tuned kelly controller for higher amperage + smoother takeoff. Was it a worthwhile upgrade?
@@logan-taylor personally I would say yes it was definitely worth it even though I’m already used to the way these China controllers behave haha it’s just nice having the extra torque and predictability!
@@highvoltfab alright you’ve convinced me, I’ll upgrade. Thanks for the info!
That Chinese controller last year year?
not sure if I 100% understand the question, but i’ve only been running the controller for a few weeks so not sure if it’ll last a year. I would assume it would though, and even if it didn’t it would be cheap to replace :)
Please build me one
only if you build me one
Next time put a cookie cutter on the back so it don't do wheelies.. looks fun either way..👍
Thick thighs save lives mate 😂
Im probably going to do this exact build but does anyone know how long the bike will last until it dies?
Thank you so much 😊
Looking into getting this bike and I am pretty tall. For scale how tall are you so I know how big it is.
How do you charge it?
I love the idea of this mod but I am a taller guy and I get the feeling that you may be close to my 6'1" height as well. I would want to explore elongating the frame by a couple inches and moving the pegs forward a bit if possible. This would not only make the fit better but would also help with the front end wanting to lift. I might also want to try another controller where you can modify the action of the throttle... maybe.
Hi Logan I am doing a very similar build and was wondering which wire does what for the throttle? Thanks
What is the top speed with all the parts on ?
Experts in the field only know of a minimum operational speed. There is no top end....
Can u wire up a fuse to it?
I've got 72v system in Dallas love it but I own 3 lol Razor mosiah of Dallas 😊
Can I have the bike pls
Legendary but terrifying 👐 just the way we like it
You better let me ride this when I come to town in 3 weeks
@@willywonkastwin hahaha alright you got it.
extended swingarm would make it more stable but thats fuckin nuts
A lot of larger riders extend that rear wheel so you don’t end up flipping off the back…
What’s the black connector that you heat up for the battery can you link it
whene i cliked the link for the moter and controller it says its a 2000 w 48 volt
What’s the black connector that you heat up for the battery can you link it
Im in burien
I got a built 110 kawi and i wanna race😂
Can you do more videos on razor bikes ? Lol 😂
Pls read comments
Need to make your own kits with this stuff and sell them cheap then other dudes, you know that everyone would go your way because it’s cheaper and pretty much the same damn thing
one day…
Has anyone found another battery with the same specs in stock?
Just wondering how much was it all
I believe my budget for this entire build was like $800 (a lot) but if you did a 48v kit and battery, which would still get you 2000w, you could do it for MUCH less
@@logan-taylor how much slower?
@@Greenslimegaming11181 48v kit 25-30mph depending on weight
@logan-taylor the battery linked is now 800$ lol like wtf I'm buy that kit
Question could this power my yz80
That is way to much power and torque for a child 😮
What’s the black connector that you heat up for the battery can you link it
Is there a tutorial that you can make to go into detail on how to build thia
I was also inspired by Sur Ronster BUT yk, the average 17 year old doesn't have 1500USD to cash out :(
Totally - it’s an expensive hobby. I tried to keep the cost as low as possible on this project for that reason!
What size battery y’all recommend
My 10yr old son has a MX650 all stock
Was gonna do the Amazon motor you got and 36V 20 AH Battery
I’d like top speed to be 30 but long range… any info would be great!!
Btw he has a Raptor 250 with experience, I just don’t want him going fast on the streets
I think you’d probably want to go for a 48v battery with a matching motor/controller - I don’t think there are any good 36v options, and the power upgrade just wouldn’t be enough fun :) Here’s a pretty affordable 48v 20ah option that should get you really good range: amzn.to/3CVZMEh
48v kits on these bikes are great, and with a 12 or 13 tooth front sprocket from Electro and Co he should be able to hit 30 no problem! Vevor makes a 48v kit similar to the 72v one I used - you can also find that on amazon and it’ll give you around 2kw which would be perfect for a younger rider.
Please don’t get a btr i don’t wanna see any house fires
Hey Logan! Have you had any issues with the Btr LiFePO4 battery? Mine won’t take charge past 72V…
hmm, i haven’t had any issues. Is your battery 72v or 60v? If they sent you a 60v, that might be max voltage?
Hey just wondering how much did you say the bike was it self? Because I’m thinking of doing this bike on the rsf 650 but I don’t know if it will be more expensive
i think i paid like 2 or 3 hundred for the bike off of FB marketplace! RSF’s are definitely more expensive to buy but totally a cool frame
shaky ass camera
Get a bike more your size,so you have more control 😂🎉😢😮😊😊😊
hahaha the little one is fun though - but that’s precisely why i bought a surron as well :)
I have the same kit as yours, but my throttle wires are different. I have red, black, white for throttle and gray, yellow, blue for 3 speed. Black and orange for reverse. The controller wires are all correct. Your throttle wires are different than mine,do we have different throttles?
Sounds like it - I ordered my throttle separately! Actually just got a new one from Electro & Co, the one in this video isn’t the greatest.
Beef up that rear spring you'll have less lift up
Need to go with electro and co that's the kit I got
How long does it last off 1 full charge?
Hey bro I was just wondering is it hard to install all the things on there? I really wanted a bike for myself, but I’m too scared that I won’t be able to do it myself.
physically installing everything is pretty simple - it’s just some allen bolts basically. The wiring is pretty tricky and frustrating, but if you can find a plug-and-play kit it should be super easy. You got this!
What did you do with your old motor and speed controller and batteries that was on your mx500 if you want to sale it all im interested in purchasing it all
if you’re in the seattle area message me on IG! @loganandrewtaylor
Same I got inspired by him too I love him
Crap controller. Need one that doesn't throw power at you based on resistance.
😳 check out my more recent videos on the bike I think you’ll like them better
Hey how did you learn to make this build? Nice vid btw. Keep it up you will become a huge hit in the future.
thanks so much!! And i just kind of figured it out as I went along with wiring diagrams and stuff :) Other than wiring it’s basically just a couple of bolts!
Hello Sabo, you handsome devil you.
It goes way faster than 35 maybe 60
How tall r u bc i was thinking of getting one but im scared im too tall for it and my knees will be like way to uncomfortable
i’m just over 6’3”! It’s small but surprisingly comfy for tall people
I have a 48V kit on an MX500 and it does around 32 MPH…. Would you know if there’s some type of regulator that I can add on to reduce the power when my young son wants to ride it… my throttle has a 3 position switch which I was hoping would enable me to control the power output but it feels like all 3 positions are the same
i’ve always had trouble with the three modes, you’re not alone. If you could put some sort of resistor on a switch, you could hypothetically limit the voltage that the throttle sends to the controller when that switch is on? So full throttle would be like 2v instead of 5v, for example. That’s like a monkey brain idea but it would definitely reduce “twitchiness” in the throttle and make it safer for a youngster -
What 48v kit do you have?
Would it work with a sx350
can these parts work on different bikes? or does it only work on the sx500
MX500, MX650, and RSF650 all have the same motor mounts and are roughly the same size, just make sure the battery you choose fits in the battery tray of your bike!!
Extend the swing arm like 6 in
can these parts work on different bikes? or does it only work on the sx500
It depends on the other bikes I know for sure if will fit on the mx500, mx650
Really looking forward to watching this, but the video motion just sucks too much. We just got a 3.6KWh 72V battery for our 8KW Suzuki project and I was hoping to learn things to apply. Sad...
video motion? like the motion of the camera? I’ve toned it way down in recent videos, never even realized I moved the camera so much until someone pointed it out to me. sorry this one wasn’t too helpful for your project, it sounds cool :( hoping my future videos can help!
@@logan-taylor Yep, the hand-held parts and my tired, aging eyes/brain just hurt from it. Even the helmet video is okay for me. Sorry for the "suck" because your content's great if I can deal with the video motion. This is the first of your videos I recall, but I've subbed in hopes. Great work and good to learn from the static shots, LOL.
Oh, and watching further, you're using a similar battery to the one we got today! 72V, 50AH, 80A BMS and it's the largest battery I've owned. (I've worked w/larger on ships, but they were lead acid. This thing scares me.) We're welding a casing to hold it into the GS500F frame this weekend. It's a hefty chunk 'o Li!
The SM200SP controller and hub motor can handle much more, so this battery may move to a Honda Ruckus project sometime in 2023 or so. Thanks for the reply and I'm looking forward to more.
@@jameswyatt1304 keep me posted on that electric Ruckus, that’s a project i’ve always wanted to tackle since i was like 17 - sounds so fun.
How much watts are is the battery
Why did you custom drill a new hole in the motor bro? Jw.
That's so that the bolt can sit flush with the motor, otherwise I think it interferes when you try to mount it to the bike!
what would i need to wire the battery
what’s battery did you use?
