I agree with your points about working on your back. It can be claustrophobic and hard on your back, working room not so nice, but being able to better use your chest muscles can be very helpful. I mean, 95% of us can probably bench press more than we could shoulder press so it makes sense. Well done job my friend 👍😀
After phoning around no dealer could tell me the service interval stating "life time fill" it took 6 weeks for VW Head Office in Wolfsburg to get back to me with an answer, and here it is... 100,000 mile or 8 years! Your welcome!
Great video. I have subscribed as I like and enjoy your content. Could you tell a difference after the gearbox oil had been changed? If so, in what way or ways?
Not at all! The fluid was not as golden as my TDI at its first drain. So, I will likely switch to a 50k drain interval for the transmission, just for peace of mind. Even with that, the shifting felt the same before and after. Thanks for visiting!
Thanks. I’m also afraid of having to deal with the skid plate on the ground. Glad it’s easier than expected. How difficult did you find using the beam style torque wrenches on the ground like that?
My movement was limited. But I only need an 1/8-to-1/4 turn to break the bolt loose or to tighten to specs. Otherwise, it was easier to use a shorter tool for the easier threading. Thanks for visiting!
on the ECS skid plate, did you need to make additional holes to braces it, or did it work with the stock screw holes? Great video btw, you answered my questions on refilling, and changing the transmission oil. thank you.
great video thanks ...i have a mk7 2013 golf 1.4tsi bluemotion tech 6 speed manual...its on 104,000 miles now...i enquired about what gearbox oil i need and was told i need that same oil as your using..im hoping the process will be the same...or near enough
I am the original owner of a 2009 MK5 Jetta 2.5 liter 5 speed manual that has 218,000 mostly highway miles. I bought it in December of 2008. I never raced it, but I've red lined it many times and have had it maxed out a few times. Two Volkswagen dealer's service shops told me not to change the manual transmission oil, and so I never did. The transmission still shifts fine.
Lol blows my mind that the dealership told me they didn't want to. Easy money as far as I'm concerned. To be fair, I had to order the fluid and that took 2 weeks.
@@AltruisticWarrior I had the '85 GTI manual trans-oil changed around 120k. I can't remember for sure but that might have been VW recommended. I just made it to 221k on the Jetta with a trip to Tennessee and North Carolina last week. It still shifts well. I wish it wasn't getting rusty. It's what I get for living in the Northeast. That's really good process you followed. Can you please suggest me any alternative gear oil brand with grade as I am not able to get vw specification gear oil outside here in India. 2007 skoda Octavia 1.9tdi diesel 5 speed manual . Thank you
Hello - I cannot speak to what is available in India. Are there no VW dealerships there? I suspect seeking a quality synthetic 75W90 gear oil would be a good place to start. Good Luck!

But I'll wear out the 500's this summer and consider a different tire for those wheels. I'll publish a video with more information soon. Thanks for visiting.
I have got golf variant mk7 1.6 tdi CLHA. The milage 180000 kilometers. My oil Fuchs Titan Sintofluid FE 75 is about to be delivered tommorow. Some say if you are lokking for trouble change gearbox oil. What Do You think, leave 8 year old oil in the gearbox or have it changed. \\\\\\\\\\\ Will change oil destray my gearbox?
I ran my original gear oil for 160,000 km. I have 100,000 km on the replacement oil. I want to change it again. I'm prissy about my oils. ;-) Thanks for visiting!
Are the plugs supposed to come with O-rings or crush washers? I just bought a kit and there aren't any seals included. Also, does the LSD and transmission use the same oil? I bought a kit for the LSD from the same place and they just sent me four 1L bottles of the same oil.
No O-rings or crush washers. The thickness of the casing and the fact that the plug feels like it gets tighter as it is screwed-in compels me to think that it MAY be similar to a pipe fitting. So, no worries about the lack of crush washers or O-rings. Take Care!
I have a 1993 Nissan d21, I haven’t changed it since I bought it, and I probably put a good 60,000 since I bought it, didn’t check but should I change the fluid or leave it? It hasn’t slipped or any problems at all? Clutch is good as well, clutch is kinda soft so I was gonna change the slave cylinder but nothing crazy ? Should I change it or leave it?
I doubt it. The TDIs have different final drive ratio and I think shorter gaps between the gears due to the engine's lower rev range. Thanks for visiting!
4:00, Don't remove the fill plug first! First, make sure that you can unscrew the fill plug but don't remove it completely. Let that fluid burst out first and then remove the fill drain plug.
Mine is a 1999 model has 200 000 km and I am just now considering a change, I dripped a bit out to check the fluid appearance, it still looks like brown honey - transmission works fine but I will likely change it because of the mileage
HAHA! Not really my style. I'm intrigued by Baun Performance's exhaust with cutout, but probably won't get one unless I have trouble with my existing system. Thanks for visiting.
I'm not 100% certain of how to do it since I have a fill hole. But I've read that there is a black plastic plug on top of the transmission near the gear selector. You might have to remove the airbox to access it. Since there's no dipstick, you have to let all oil out, then fill with 2.3L of fluid. Take Care.
I dont even own a Gti but I subscribed because I like these diy mechanics videos. They will help me out with my Nissan D21. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks for the sub! I don't have a lot of DIY on this channel. The car hasn't needed much yet. But maybe I'll get there someday.
