Scrolling Timeline and Mouse for Zooming in are my favorite. Coming from Premiere Pro, It makes FCPX feels like home again! One question though, I believe I should start command post every time I edit now?
I’m glad that it was helpful to you 😊 Yeah, you’re going to want to start CommandPost before FCPX. If you edit often you can enable CommandPost to start every time you boot your computer so that it’s automatic. 👍🏼
Batch export is a huge time saver. I exported 89 stock clips the other day and I could literally set it going and walk away instead of sitting there, manually exporting one by one 😄🙌🏼
Another great feature of command post is that it is a good way to map midi to shortcuts for other apps like your browser. I use to control UA-cam with foot switches to play/stop, increase/decrease speed and rwd/ff.
It's still incredible to me that FCPX doesn't have these things natively. For such a great editor, it's the small things like this that have been absent that have made it difficult for me. Cool to see these workarounds being added through command post.

It does, but it’s not activated by default. You have to manually activate it using Terminal. It’s pretty easy and there are instructions on the CommandPost website. 😊🤙🏼

Big ups as always! 2 questions for you Brad. One, was that a wild bird on your shoulder Brad? Or a pet? Two, is the virtual touch bar only available for Macbooks? I don't seem to have that option for my iMac
Thanks dude 😄🙏🏼 It was a parrot but he flew away just as I took the shot 😂 The virtual Touch Bar is available on iMacs as well. I asked the creators that same question. I’m not sure if it’s found in a different place but it should be under your control surfaces settings. Is there no Touch Bar tab there?
@@Brad_West true I just love it I can easily send parts of a film and ask for suggestions than to screen share or record from phone..your videos are great I truly appreciate I hope I can learn a lot about fcp and teach others too

I should have know better when command post wanted access to my whole life when I downloaded it. Great convincing video but it wasn’t for me even on an m1 Mac mini.
Yeah I guess it’s not for everyone. I don’t really use the scrolling timeline as much anymore but I love it for the other features. CommandPost needs access to your machine so that it can perform those tasks. Appreciate you watching though 😄👍🏼
Hey Brad, Enjoying your vids thanks. Tell me though, Command Post wanting to have access to screen recording! Isn't that like the biggest warning bell there is? Goodbye all personal info, bank details, pass code etc. Can you explain why this is a good thing please? Thanks so much, Cheers.
Thanks Drew! So happy to hear that you’re enjoying the videos 😄🙏🏼 The only reason CommandPost needs screen recording access is because of its GUI overlays on top of Final Cut Pro. It needs access so that it can see where you are clicking on those interfaces. It’s purely a functional thing and not to “collect data”. You’re not the first person to have concerns about it though. I hope that helps put your mind at ease 😄🤙🏼
This thing kicks serious a**. I love the ability to have scrolling timeline + mouse-wheel timeline zoom. For me, these are real timesavers. Why they aren't native features of FCPX, I don't know. Anyway, cool all around. Thanks!
Hmmm, that's odd. I would suggest commenting in the CommandPost user group on Facebook. The creators are in there and someone will definitely be able to help you troubleshoot: facebook.com/groups/commandpost/
I know I answered your question on Facebook but I’m answering again here in case anyone else has the same problem. It scrolls down and there should be another text link that you can click on to take you to the latest version of the app. It says: “You can download CommandPost here.”
So I’ve got it setup and I’m happily adding commands into a bank via MIDI and it works great! Here’s a question: In the specific project I’m doing, I’m adding a bunch of different transitions, which I mapped to controller and I mapped select right edge and the arrow and down key to jump ahead to my next cut. So far so good. The transition applies, BUT it puts the focus on the transitions panel. So in the interim, I mapped a button to focus the timeline (or CMD + 2) - is there any way to make the transition shortcut automatically focus back on the timeline without needing to hit that additional button? Is it a script or is it something so simple that I’m just missing it entirely 🤣 EDIT NEVERMIND! SUPER EASY TO DO IN SCRIPTING!!!!!
You would need to click on the cut between clips and then click on the button to add the transition. If that doesn’t work I would send a message to Chris Hocking (CommandPost) creator to report the issue. He should be able to help you. Let me know 😊🤞🏼
@@Brad_West Yes, I've tried that, and CommandPost flashes the transition panel when I press the button, but nothing else happens. I'll send a message to Chris. Thanks!
No unfortunately not. I wish that was possible but the only way around it is to export the compound clip and reimport that and apply stabilization. For multicams, you would have to open up the multicam clip and make two cuts that match the clip in the main timeline and the stabilize within the multicam.
If you can use command post to create buttons for third party plug-ins, does that mean you can also assign this to external consoles such as the Loupedeck or Monogram? If so could you assign ColourFinale Pro's HSL sliders under the "six vectors" to colourgrade off of the consoles?
That’s odd! I would try reinstalling CommandPost first. If that doesn’t work, maybe try install a slightly older version? If not, you can report it to Chris Hocking (one of the creators) to see if it’s a bug.

Hello. I decided to installe Command Post that I tried to use with my LoupeDeck+ a while ago. . For me the shortcut CapsLock (for the Guide Line) doesn't work well, sometime it does, sometime it doesn't... Maybe CommandPost need a few time to memorise the settings ? . About the movable markers, I pasted the "formula" in Terminal but it didn't seem to accept it. Here is the message I had : sudo: /etc/sudoers is world writable sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting sudo: error initializing audit plugin sudoers_audit Maybe I forgot something before the formula ? I don't use Terminal very often... . About the HUD, I have encountered problems to use it until I log off my 2 externals displays... I have often this problem when I open the keyword window, it is hidden on one of my two monitors instead of appear on the same monitor as FCPX (!) Despite this solution, I received several messages of error like this "The following error has occured, unable to find a video effect called Gaussien"... It happened again with Neat Video that I use a lot.... With my Zoom In effect, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In a nutshell, the HUD works well with Transitions but not with Effects. . About the virtual Touch Bar, I tried it to but (sorry...) never managed to have it always in the bottom of my FCPX screen. I looked at the system preference but didn't find. So after all these tests and deceptions, I decided to uninstall Command Post. Too complicated for me. Besides, I don't want to risk unstability and problems when I will upgrade FCPX 😀 Thanks.

That’s odd. What version of FCP and OS are you using?
@@Brad_West FCPX 10.5.3 and Bigsur 11.5.2
@@tiagoespindola Hmmm. Should work. CommandPost has just come out with a few updates over the last week. I would recommend reinstalling the latest update to see if that solves it for you.
@@Brad_West yeeessssss, I did the new update and now it's working
@@tiagoespindola Fantastic!

Don't sleep on CommandPost 😄
Here is the message I had :
sudo: /etc/sudoers is world writable
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: error initializing audit plugin sudoers_audit
Maybe I forgot something before the formula ?
Wow that’s so strange! I have t had any of those issues personally. If you ever wanted to try it again, I know you can report bugs directly to CommandPost and they work at releasing updates that work 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your experience 😄👍🏼
this is amazing! thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it 😊👊🏼
