Hands down the BEST video tutorial for FCP for beginners! Quick, detailed, clear, and most essential aspects described in a most efficient way. Million thanks! Subscribed.
Despite having used final cut Pro for several years, I decided to watch this video and 20 minutes in I have learned a number of new things. Sometimes it is fantastic to go back to basics. I'm sure others new and seasoned to FPC will very much appreciate this tutorial. i joined your patreon recently and have found it to be amazing.. Thank you!!
Thank you for jumping right in to the content of the video instead of marketing your own channel! I gave a thumbs up and now am a sub! Thanks for your solid content, dude!
Great refresher Dylan. I've been using FCP for a couple years now and I found this useful. Keep it coming! Video idea for you - I'd love to see your editing work flow
Great tutorial. Have been a user for many years but it is always good to have a refresher course. Love how you packed so much information into a short tutorial. Thanks again.
Dylan , thank you so much for making this video , I've just after eight years or so, come back too Final Cut Pro for producing-editing Music videos , so much has changed and improved in that time, you have completly taken the anxiety away of jumping back in !
Nice! I just bought FCP today and while I can put together a video, there’s much I didn’t understand. And you helped clear up quite a few of my questions. Many thanks, and I’ll subscribe. Gosh, a clear explanation, who’d have thunk.
There are ALWAYS things I don't know (or have forgotten) and so this video has been most useful. Also copied to my grandson who is just starting out with video. Keeping it in the family! Very many thanks for all your hard work and the whole of Scotland wishes you a Happy New Year.
Dude.... I have had final cut for about 3 and a half years. I got it on offer during Lockdown and have created my showreels, music videos, and inshow videos for corporate and cruise ship visuals. I would say they're better than amatuer... But, no more than that. After watching your video, I realise I know NOTHING about shortcuts and the capabilities of Final Cut. Thank you for these vids (and for your SABER title)... I will beat myself with a pain stick for all the wasted hours of my life, manual croping transitions, hitting Command Z because of a mistake i made 60 edits ago a, cross dissolving audio and losing my eyesight whilst straining to look at minute clips. Then probably a little cry. You the man. Thank you
Your Video is the best one for Final Cut Pro for beginners. You presented it very clear cut way, covered the most essential aspects in an efficient manner in less time. After searching a lot of videos for FCP in UA-cam , your video settled the matter. You are highly intelligent. A lot of thanks ! You won a subscriber.

Such an epic tutorial!!! Thank you so much. You are a great teacher😀.
was also completely unable to import my clips by either of the two methods you show. the only way i've been able to do it is to drag and drop onto my timeline.
Hi Dylan. I have been laboring on Adobe Pro and have had modest success with Adobe Rush. Also, Davinci Resolve is supposed to be very powerful. I have not delved into it yet and after watching your video, I am wondering if I should even bother. Not only does Final Cut seem extremely intuitive as most Apple products do but your delivery and attention to detail along with your energy is contagious. Thank you so much!!!
i tried a whole bunch of other "introductory" videos, and none of them were any good at all... this one is EXCELLENT!!!!!. I couldn't get the color board function to work the way you describe it, but i found a different way to handle that. But again, this is excellent, and has been enormously helpful!!!!! thank you so much.,
been wanting to make the move and add fcp to my editing skills but the different lingo is off-putting. This video has explained everything I needed to know. Amazing work and massive thank you Dylan 👌
@@TheFinalCutBro I need to start my podcasts but I don't know how to edit them kindly let me know which course should I pick you have 4 which one for me.
Excellent and comprehensive video though it left me breathless . . . I don't know about you! I just about managed to keep up with it but I have been using FCP X since its inception in 2011. I would suggest that beginners need to be adept at pausing and rewinding. You have certainly covered a tremendous amount of the essential procedures.
@Dylan Bates: Seriously, THANK YOU for this video. It has helped me out a TON. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more from you! I will be directing people to here if they ask me where to learn the basics of FInal Cut Pro!
Hi Dylan - You are making helpful videos and I appreciate them. I could use some information on LUTs if you have time. My videos out of the camera are pretty flat.
I'm a windows guy myself but use a mac mini for music on the side and am finally learning final cut. Great video, but I think something that should be pointed out that I noticed is that changing the Format when exporting also changes the file type. Video and Audio is .mov, Apple Devices is .m4v, etc. Really helpful video!
I’m embarrassed that I’ve used FCPX for like three years now and always struggled with comprehending library and events. Your library and book analogy finally made it click for me! Just needed it in terms a nerd like me understands I guess! Great video!
Dude ... I make talking head vids and have literally never used the color board before 😅 I'm not a beginner on FCP but this video was still worth watching. Thanks
This is super helpful! Some of my footage taken with a A6700 exported choppy and some of it blurry. I followed the 180* rule for shutter speed and adjusted other settings in the camera like many content creators suggested but the Sony footage just doesn’t look good in comparison to a simple drone or action camera. Any input you might have would be great! Also, my video I posted looks much better on a phone vs a tv. Might something happened during export?
Great video Dylan. As a beginner I have messed up my audio track with (maybe Edit points). The easiest way for me to fix it was to re-import a new audio track, which I have done, but how do I mute the previous audio track? It appears the CMD's have changed for this!
Hey Dylan, thanks for all the training, and keep up the good work. I have a question. Is there a way to rearrange the way that my plug-ins show up in the Titles? I want to rearrange my Motion VFX plug-ins so that the ones I use all the time will be on top, and maybe rearrange all of the ones I use all the time to be on top. I think I can rename them, but I don't want to break anything, or set off any alarms, as if I am tampering with the plug-ins. Thanks for your help.
The library is the collection of all the "shelves"/events. You can organize this in your own way, but one example is if you shot over a series of days. You can name the events "1/1/25" or "1/2/25" depending on when you shot the clips, and the library would turn into a large collection of all your days that you shot on. You can organize this in your own way depending on what you're familiar with or what works best with your project.
Hi, excellent video for beginners, I apreciatte your efforts.I have a problem with multicam editing.Maybe you can help me. I need to create a multicam project.I filmed with 3 cameras but I don't have only 3 tracks because of various causes 2 cameras stoped filming.I pressed again the record button but I lost seconds from each camera and now I have two clips from first camera, three from second and one complete clip from third camera. How can I create a multicam of 3 tracks but 6 clips.Kind regards
Great tutorial, thanks a lot. Quick. question: If I import my footage by dragging the folder from the Finder into FCPX, will all files be copied into the library? Or will they be left in place? When I import the files via the import button I have the option copy everything into the library or leave them in place.
Can I ask a grading q? My footage from R5C comes in as MXF files which are LOADS nicer than the standard .MOVs I get from my 5Div. I am used to being able to easily match grades in Premiere and also use FilmConvert but wondering whether there's another way as playing aorund with the colour effects doesn't get it close. On the plus, I can't believe how gorgeous the R5C footage looks in FCP off the bat!
